The composition of this photograph was not, as one might have expected, indebted to Grant Wood’s famous painting American Gothic, which Bob did not know at the time. In fact the idea was based on a photograph he had made of Nigel Buesst and his girlfriend back in Melbourne in 1963. Trying to re-create the appearance of early Australian photographs of the 1860’s, he had posed his friends in the manner of pioneering settlers, in front of a colonial weatherboarded house. He pictured the Lennons in a simliar way, not as part of the Beatles myth but as a happy hard-working family, doing their best to earn a living. The large gold spoon clutched by Julian Lennon brings a more realistic note to Bob’s own fantasy.

I started listening to the Beatles when I was 14 years old (1974). My favorite song is "Let it Be" because I like the meaning behind it. They have a lot of variety in their music, they weren't afraid to experiment with their sound. They are the best pop/rock musicians I'll probably ever see in my time.

I started listening to them when I was twelve. My favorite song? that’s a hard one, there are so many. My favorite album is The White Album, why? it hard many types of songs with different messages, different rhythms, it’s awesome. They’re important because when I discovered their music they took me away from many bad things that I was starting to discover. I was immersed in their music and in them as people, and to this day I’ve come in contact with people who are now like family because of them. When no one else was there to listen to me or give me advice, their music was there for me

The Beatles - Helter Skelter
"I was in Scotland and I read in Melody Maker that Pete Townshend had said: ‘We’ve just made the raunchiest, loudest, most ridiculous rock ‘n’ roll record you’ve ever heard.’ I never actually found out what track it was that The Who had made, but that got me going; just hearing him talk about it. So I said to the guys, ‘I think we should do a song like that; something really wild.’ And I wrote Helter Skelter. You can hear the voices cracking, and we played it so long and so often that by the end of it you can hear Ringo saying, ‘I’ve got blisters on my fingers’. We just tried to get it louder: ‘Can’t we make the drums sound louder?’ That was really all I wanted to do - to make a very loud, raunchy rock ‘n’ roll record with The Beatles. And I think it’s a pretty good one.” - Paul McCartney

I started listening to them in 2008. I don’t have a favorite song or album because I like too many, but I Want to Hold Your Hand is special because with that song I started liking them. They’re important to me because they are like therapy to me,. When I feel sad or angry they always brighten up my day, they put me in a good mood, and I don’t know, it’s impossible to express how they make me feel, but they are the best thing that happened to me.

1. I started listening to The Beatles with my dad. He had the revolver CD so we used to play that in our car as well as the best of the 60s CD. I have some great memories of putting the windows down and listening to the albums in our car
2. I don't know about [what’s my favorite] album per se but I love the song For No One just because it's really haunting and beautiful. It got me through the end of a bad relationship.
3. I recognize the influence and how ground breaking they were to the rock side of the music industry. As someone who listens to newer versions of rock, I appreciate their impact.

I started listening to them when I was 11 years old, in the beginning of 2009. I don’t have a favorite album or song, but With The Beatles makes want to dance and it makes me feel like I’m in the 60’s. They’re important to me because every song can change my mood, always for the better, and since I’ve know them they have always been there for me with their music.

I started listening to them when I was approximately 10 years old. One of my best friends, Diana, showed me their music and I’ve been a fan ever since. My favorite album is Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band because its cover is striking and the celebrities that are in it make it unique. In terms of musical structure, the songs represent the psychedelic stage they were getting into, [which was] a radical change because their songs used to be about love and then they narrated stories… They’re important to me because when I met them their music made me very happy, it made me dance, which is very strange in me because I don’t like dancing, and it relaxed me. They’re an inspiration to me because they started from the bottom and made it to the top on their own with their music…
