Member Spotlight - Solar
Who is Solar?
Kim Yong-sun, better known by her stage name Solar, is the oldest member and leader of Mamamoo signed under RBW. She has an older sister, Kim Yong-hee, and a dog named Yongkeey. In January 20, 2021, RBW announced that Solar & Moonbyul have renewed their contracts with the company.
Social Media:
YouTube Channel: Solarsido
Instagram:@solarkeem
How was she discovered?
Prior to becoming a singer, she was initially training to become a flight attendant. She was scouted accidentally by a representative of the agency while she was out shopping one day; she had stopped to sign up for a free gift, but in order to get the gift, she had to sing for it. The representative then asked her to audition for RBW Entertainment (formerly known as WA Entertainment). In 2011, she became a trainee.
Debut with Mamamoo
On June 19, 2014, Solar successfully debuted as a member of Mamamoo along with the other members Moonbyul, Wheein, and Hwasa. Their debut was considered one of the best debut in 2014 and even up to now.
Solo Debut
On April 23, 2020, Solar made her official solo debut with her single, “Spit it Out,”. On April 28, 2020, she won her first-ever music show award as a solo artist on SBS MTV’s The Show.

Single Album - Spit It Out (April 23, 2020)
Fun Facts:
She can play the piano
She is the only in the group with no tattoos (does her eyebrows count though?)
She releases two videos a week on her YouTube Channel Solarsido.
She is considered to be the Main Vocalist of Mamamoo but prefers not to be referred to that as she thinks everyone in her group have the same talent,
She was the one that urged Moonbyul to become a rapper instead as she thinks Moonbyul will be good at it. (Thank goodness for this one as Moonbyul is considered one of the best female rapper in K-pop right now due to her unique deep voice and growls)
She used to be roommates with Hwasa during their dorm days. (The all moved to their own places after Um Oh Ah Yeh era)
Moonbyul has given her the nickname Yeba (Pretty Fool) as she is really gullible and gets teased and pranked a lot by her other members also knows as the Loser Club.
She’s usually really shy around people that she doesn’t know, but her beagleness comes out when all the four members are around.
Her duality is insane:
Official Fan Song for Moomoos - I Love Too (Never Letting Go)
youtube
Solar created the official fan song for Moomoos, “I Love Too (Never Letting Go),” as a response to the moomoos that held up the banners during their first ever fanmeeting that had the phrase “Never Letting Go.” The phrase stayed with her so when she then wrote the song on her birthday (February 21, 2016) as a gift in return of the birthday event that fans held for her. Hwasa wrote her rap verses aftertheir first ever win with “You’re the Best,” on March 6, 2016. Moonbyul’s rap verses were revealed on July 4, 2016.
What does the song mean? According to https://onehallyu.com/topic/629874-whats-the-story-behind-your-idol-groups-fan-song/.
“The song is written in their perspective and talking directly to Moomoos. to paraphrase, "You make me feel safe, you give me confidence, and help me overcome my hardships. Please smile brightly and don't get sick. The first time you made me cry was when you said you'd never let us go. We will do the same. I'm sorry that we receive more than we give. Thank you and i promise you, for always, I love you too."

(Moonbyul, Hwasa, Solar, Wheein)
A 4-member K-pop girl group that debuted back in 2014. (June 19, 2014) under Rainbow Bridge World or RBW.
Members:
Solar - Leader, Vocalist
Moonbyul - Rapper, Performer
Wheein - Vocalist, Performer
Hwasa - Maknae, Vocalist, Rapper
They don’t really like putting “Main Rapper, Main Vocalist, or Main Dancer” in their positions as they all feel like they are all evenly talented, but if they really have to:
Solar is the Leader & Main Vocalist.
Moonbyul is the Main Rapper & Main Dancer
Wheein is the Lead Vocalist & Lead Dancer
Hwasa is the Maknae, Lead Rapper, & Lead Vocalist
They are recognized for their strong vocal performances. Almost always singing live with only a handful of lip-sync performances (two to be exact?) They are also recognized for their retro, jazz, and R&B concepts.
Their debut is considered one of the best K-pop debuts of 2014 with their single Mr. Ambiguous. It is also known that Moonbyul created the choreography for Mr. Ambiguous and also wrote her own rap part as she does with almost all their songs being the 34th most copyrighted artist in KOMCA with 71 credits under her belt. This makes her the most credit 3rd Gen female artist and 2nd highest credited female artist of all time.
