It is important to remember, when caring for a Pokemon, that they do not experience regret or remorse in the way humans do. Though they possess 'imagination' in the sense of spatial awareness, to construct an elaborate scenario of 'what-if' is purely the domain of humans.

This is true of almost all known Pokemon, including the human-shape ones with psychic abilities such as Alakazam or Gothitelle. While they are very intelligent, their social structures are different, or rather, nonexistent, in the wild. They might be able to simulate outcomes or alternate possibilities, but they do not have the capacity of 'regret'.

Regret is a function of the orbitofrontal cortex and amygdala, among other regions. It evaluates reward-processing behavior, gratification, and decision-making. In humans, our extremely social behavior created 'regret' as a maladaptive behavior to ensure we make optimal decisions in social situations.

Pokemon such as Eevee, for example, cannot 'regret' which possible evolution they evolved into, or wish for another one. Their brain is simply not configured in such a way to allow for such things. Their orbitofrontal cortex does not allow such complicated thoughts.

Other Pokemon, similarly, cannot 'regret' evolving. Many Pokemon understand their own evolution, and will actively choose against evolution if it would be detrimental to them or their social group. However, in the event one evolves anyway, it will adapt or leave its group. They cannot 'wish' they had not evolved.

To care for a Pokemon, you must understand that even the most intelligent among them are not human, and their brains are fundamentally different. Overly anthropomorphizing them will only lead to difficulties for you both.

There is no Pokemon who wishes to become something other than what it is.
