Memorial Day is to remember those who we have lost. Please honor them by remembering who they were as Heroes. Remember them as patriots that gave the ultimate sacrifice so we can endure and live in the greatest country on the planet with the greatest citizens in the world. Have a great and safe weekend!

Besides family and friends, there are very few things I really miss from home. It has been 175 days now I have been on this walk across America. I was ecstatic to hang out with @selloandrewlyons and he took me to @jenisicecreams! I have been missing this ever since I left Columbus. It was so nice to get a taste of home. Thank you!

Dear Mom, First off, I owe you everything. It has been 173 days since we've seen each other. You have always been there for me and have shaped me into the man that I am today. We have been and seen so much together. When I was a kid and we had almost nothing, you taught me how to appreciate and take care of everything we had. When it was just you, me, and my little brother, Evan, you worked so hard to keep us happy and our minds off of the bad that was going on. We had to move a lot and stay in many places but you always made it feel like an adventure while still making it feel like home. That is something that is with me on this walk to where I can utilize that and help me through this. You have taught me manners, respect, kindness, and so much more. You have always made sure that I know the difference between needs and wants. I can't put into words how amazing of a human being that you are and how thankful I am that I am lucky enough to be your son. You taught me that I really can do anything I want and have been supportive of everything I have done. Maybe you were not too supportive of when I wanted to start this journey for our Veterans saying "No way. The bears are gonna eat you." But after a few days you realized that this walk was important to me and the message needed to be spread so you became my number one supporter. I wish I could be there today to give you a big hug and tell you thank you and give you a nice present. It's the least I could do for everything you have done. But I can't. I wish we could sit at the big coffee table and watch a good movie together while eating some wings. But I can't. I wish I could do so many things. But I can't. At least not yet. It will be so long before I walk to Columbus and get to see you. What I can do is tell you that your son is out here making a difference. Making a change. Making a positive impact in so many lives and that is all because of you, your support, and your love. I can tell you that your son is proud of all the sacrifices that you have made to ensure he felt safe, happy, and loved. Thank you mom. Happy Mother's Day. I love you and I will see you soon. Your eternally grateful son, Eli Smith

I should be between Encinitas, California and Carlsbad, California on Wednesday night. Looking for a place to crash there or a campground to setup the tent.
