I love this scene because it really sends the message of how Yi San was not allowed to grieve in public due to his duty as the King of Joseon but he took a little moment to grieve as a father in the twilight, in between the lit and dark areas of his chamber, in private.

It might seem to the officials that he was not a good father by ordering the court to not grieve over the passing of the Crown Prince and some of the people who did not know any better would claim that the King was denying his feeling but in reality, Yi San chose to draw a line between his duty as a King and his personal feelings, without actually abandoning his personal feelings in total like what he had done when he was still a crown prince himself.

You know what that is? GROWTH.

The appearance of a rainbow signals Deok-Im's passing before San was left with nothing but her lifeless hand. Similarly, when he chose to stay, kissing and embracing her, the rainbow signifies joining her in the afterlife.

Also the plant in his room that lost all its flowers then he fell in a deep slumber indicating his death. The camera then panned back to the branch having flowers again then he woke up in Deok-Im's side.

I think this is his version of eternity, the afterlife. When everything is fine just like Deok-Im says, she wanna watch the flowers with him. The flowers are back, and he believed everything is settled in the waking life, this time he choose to fulfill her wish and stay with her.

The palace ritual of having the king's eunuch calling to the king three time is done by Deok-Im instead, telling him to go back to where he belong as portrayed in the dream. Yet he still choose to stay.

Initially, it's as if everything was just a dream so he went his way back to how it went until he realized that if he cross that door, he'll be back to real life without her by his side. Before, his responsibility as a King comes first. He choose Deok-Im this time.

"I will always choose this moment with you and hope this moment to not change. For this moment to be forever."

"So the moment became forever."

And that moment, where he was the happiest, with Deok-Im in his arms, is his version of eternity.
