There is no new thing upon the earth. So that as Plato had an imagination, that all knowledge was but remembrance; so Salomon giveth his sentence, that all novelty is but oblivion. - Francis Bacon, Essays LVII

“This is what you shall do; Love the earth and sun and the animals, despise riches, give alms to every one that asks, stand up for the stupid and crazy, devote your income and labor to others, hate tyrants, argue not concerning God, have patience and indulgence toward the people, take off your hat to nothing known or unknown or to any man or number of men, go freely with powerful uneducated persons and with the young and with the mothers of families, read these leaves in the open air every season of every year of your life, re-examine all you have been told at school or church or in any book, dismiss whatever insults your own soul, and your very flesh shall be a great poem and have the richest fluency not only in its words but in the silent lines of its lips and face and between the lashes of your eyes and in every motion and joint of your body.”
— Walt Whitman, in the Preface to Leaves of Grass (via liquidlightandrunningtrees)

Watching what not to wear which my mom and I would watch together all the time when I was a teenager. She always wanted Clinton to marry Stacy lmfao her only homophobic moment in her life but I was always like mom….. they’re gay lfmao . Anyway this is a very formative show and tonnnsssss of memories just unlocked for me. Which is very emotional but I’m trying not to like even describe my emotions to myself.
Ok so not to grief post but I do sometimes feel comforted remembering bad memories with my mom like times we fought. Because happy memories are literally too painful lmfao. I mean thinking of her at all is really too much. But I descend less into madness when I think of like times I got in trouble. Cause she was strict when I was a kid like there’s no doubt. But I guess we turned out okay so I guess it’s all good.
See it’s just all too much still.
