The Importance of Music
I have always listened to music for many years, and I grew up with many of the old-generation styles of music like Indie, Rock, and Blues. Music has not only influenced my life but has also influenced the emotions that I feel. For example, if I was having a tough day and felt stressed, I would listen to music by Elliott Smith and Radiohead. I would choose either of these music styles because both appeal to my emotional state in the present moment. However, if I was having a great and exciting day, I would listen to Ozzy Osbourne, Journey, or Tupac to express my excitement for the day. These examples show how music is more complex than people realize and can have different ways of expressing a variety of music based on emotions. I believe that music not only appeals to the emotions of the listener but also can be used as a tool to express yourself as a person. Attending concerts or the Coachella festival is a form of expression towards your favorite band and artists because of the positive influence music has on its listeners. I feel that music has influenced my life because I cannot listen to anything without it when I am doing work; I have to have music playing when I exercise, I have music playing, or even when I am relaxing; I have to have music playing because of how influential music is. I believe what makes music so special is how it can build a community, and it is amazing to see how much music there is, with millions of fans who enjoy listening to a variety of music. What I personally like about music is how it can build connections with people, especially through social media, because while music is a combination of sounds and rhythms, it allows people to relate and connect on a personal level with emotions that the artists are able to project through music.
