Why does the water heater breaker keep tripping?
https://www.quora.com/Why-does-the-water-heater-breaker-keep-tripping/answer/Charlie-Gonzales
I believe that the Element is probably bad, or the wiring has come loose, or maybe even some water made it short out ( this is caused by a loose connection on the top of the Water heater, then trailing down and causing a short).

If I drain the ants in my shower into the drain hole, are most of them dead or do they crawl back alive inside the pipes?
https://www.quora.com/If-I-drain-the-ants-in-my-shower-into-the-drain-hole-are-most-of-them-dead-or-do-they-crawl-back-alive-inside-the-pipes/answer/Charlie-Gonzales
I would say probably. If you run HOT Water for a minute or two, will more than likely, get rid of them. And also keeping the Shower pan or tiled shower pan,
Clean with some ajax or a Cleanser that is appropriate. Will go a long way to deterring them from actually building up.
And another thing to mention is that if the ants were to go down the drain there shouldn't be any way for them to get thru the drain outlets in other parts of your home.
Reason being that every Plumbing Fixture should have what is called a p-trap which is a fitting which holds water or traps the water.
So that also odors from the sewer system do not enter into the home.

How to Extend the Life of a Water Heater
https://www.plumbermag.com/blog/2019/07/how-to-extend-the-life-of-a-water-heater_sc_01uzy
We live in a society that increasingly understands the environmental issues we face, so we are trying to find various solutions to reduce our consumption of short-lived goods. However, over-consumption is present in all sectors and programmed obsolescence seems to be more and more widespread.
When I first started working in the plumbing industry, it only took me a few minutes to understand how huge this sector is. For example, each year, more than 8 million hot water tanks are changed, and that's only in the United States. Why isn't anyone talking about it? Simply because we don't see it and some manufacturers say it's impossible to make the tanks last longer. However, there is a way to significantly extend the life of your water heater.
Cathodic protection (sacrificial anode)
To begin with, it is important to know that a tank is equipped with sacrificial cathodic protection (magnesium anode). This protection usually lasts only a few years and must be replaced, because once it is completely consumed, the water heater will start to rust. Manufacturers often require that this anode be inspected annually and replaced if necessary.
Long-term solution (impressed current anode)
You probably didn't know it, but there is a long-term solution (and it doesn't require any maintenance) — CORRO-PROTEC impressed current anodes. Although impressed current cathodic protection has been used for several years in various environments, it is not well known (for example, these systems are frequently used to protect gas lines).
Unlike sacrificial anodes, impressed current anodes do not sacrifice themselves to protect the water heater; they are much more compact and easier to install. The CORRO-PROTEC impressed current anode is made of an insoluble titanium alloy that receives a low current electronically regulated by a rectifier. The immunity of the steel walls of the tank is ensured by the current supplied by the anode. This current allows the steel tank of the water heater to be polarized, protecting it from corrosion.
In addition to completely stopping corrosion inside the tank, the CORRO-PROTEC anode is known to remove sulphur odors in less than 24 hours and reduce scale accumulation in the tank. With a 20-year warranty and an installation that takes only a few minutes, the CORRO-PROTEC anode has been adopted in more than 40,000 homes across North America.

How can I know if my toilet is clogged?
https://www.quora.com/How-can-I-know-if-my-toilet-is-clogged/answer/Charlie-Gonzales
Look it is most obvious when the Toilet is clogged. Now, the Question should be rather. Where is the location of the clog? In the Toilet ( in the Trap of the Toilet) or somewhere else? Run water in the shower for a few minutes (Run for a Good while, Maybe FIVE + Minutes or even LONGER Like 10 Minutes. See the Pipes maybe empty or the Water May Have Drained Out Slowly.)
If nothing else is backing up like in the shower? Then it's only in the Toilet. The Best or easiest form or method to Tackle this is to USE a Rubber CONE Type of PLUNGER (Cost $7.00.) Put the Cone in the TOILET and use a Suction Type of Method. FIVE or TEN Times and if this Dislodges the Stoppage. Great.
If Not then Use a Toilet Auger. (They Cost around $30.00 at the Home Depot.) One More thing if the Shower backs up when running water in the Shower drain. It's in The main Drain. The way to unclog this is to go through a Main Line Clean out. or call a plumber. With Practice is how we all Learn. Make Sure to Use LEATHER GLOVES.
P.S. Check Out a Video on You Tube on How to Unclog a Toilet and or a Main Drain Line. Ask at your Local Hardware store, if there knowledgeable.

Plumbing: The water flow in my tap is down to a trickle, with no leaks - how come?
Plumbing In San Diego CA. Response - More than Likely an Aerator clogged with debris.
https://www.quora.com/Plumbing-The-water-flow-in-my-tap-is-down-to-a-trickle-with-no-leaks-how-come/answer/Charlie-Gonzales

Question Posted on Quora.
My Answer:
The more than likely reason would be that the water filter (Aerator) at the end of the spout or where the water comes out from the faucet is clogged with debris which is a common occurrence.
If you are able to, remove and clean and then replace the aerator.
Use Channel lock pliers be sure to place a cloth or rag so as not to not mar or scratch the end of the faucet. “most aerators” usually unscrew off.
The other obvious reason would be that the faucet is bad or clogged and needs to be snaked. HA HA. Just Kidding a little euphemism about the situation.
If the aerator is able to be removed and cleaned. Then I would say. You need another faucet.
I would recommend a Moen or a Delta faucet since either one of these can do the job. It’s always better to pay a little more.
Where as if you get the really inexpensive faucet. You will end up replacing the faucet in a matter of months if not sooner.

5-Star San Diego Plumber
Since 1983, American Plumbing is still Highly rated on Google and Yelp Five Star San Diego Plumber. Specializing in Residential Plumbing repair. Including Leaky Toilets. Is your toilet a nuisance? Does it keep running at night. Well we offer free estimates at no obligation.
We also repair leaks in faucets. Many times we mention that working on faucets may not be the best choice, and so many times it's just easier to replace the faucet Because once they start leaking continuously it's almost impossible to fix, or it can start leaking again soon thereafter.
Most shower valves are easier to repair just change the cartridge. Depending on the brand. That You have. The Important thing is to take care of the Leaking shower valve. Because it will obviously run up your water bill.
Drain Stoppages? When drains get old they have tendency to get build up so that it makes it a lot easier to clog thus causing stoppages often.
Cast Iron piping That are older than 50 or 60 years old are, likely a culprit of plumbing problems. Kitchen sink drains, may be the main culprit and Most of the time it may involve a simple solution like rerouting or changing the kitchen drain line.
Water Heaters when they become old can sometimes cause for the hot water to run out faster than expected.
Chemical cleaners are temporary fix at best and the chemical are pretty strong and may cause a leak on standing water in a sink and or also affect your pocketbook. On something that usually will just be a temporary fix.

FINDING THE PROBLEM: 5 HELPFUL TIPS ON LEAK DETECTION
https://fischerplumbing.com/finding-the-problem-5-helpful-tips-on-leak-detection/
1. CHECK YOUR TOILETS
The first thing you’ll want to do is to check your toilets. The toilets in your homes use up a large amount of water as it is. When there’s a leak within a toilet, the water usage sores even higher.
To detect a leak within a toilet, the first step is to remove the lid from the tank behind it. Listen for any hissing noises. If you hear a hissing sound, try to locate the leak with your ears.
If there’s no noticeable hissing noise, add red food coloring into the tank of the toilet. You’ll only need to add in a couple of drops. Wait a few minutes and then check the bowl of the toilet.
If the water in the bowl of the toilet has turned a pink color, then there’s a leak. This is normally due to a leak involving the flapper. Be sure to check each toilet in the same way.
2. CHECK THE HOT WATER TANK
Now, head over to your hot water tank and check the pressure relief valve. This valve might be inside a drain, making it hard to detect a leak. Remove the drain pipe to find the leak.
If removing the drainpipe isn’t an option, then listen closely for that same hissing sound that you listened for with the toilets. If you hear hissing noises, there’s a leak. You should call a professional plumber if you detect a leak within your hot water tank.
Another way to check for a leak associated with the hot water tank is to look for sitting water near the bottom of the tank. Also, check for moisture on the bottom of the discharge tube.
3. CHECK YOUR METER LINE
To check the meter line, first, locate the shut-off valve by the house. Shut it off temporarily, and then remove the lid from the meter and watch the dial.
If the lid for the meter isn’t visible, then try brushing around some of the dirt and other debris located around it. Dirt sometimes builds up and covers the meter. Once you get the lid off, look to see if the meter is still turning.
If it is, the leak is between the meter and your house or a leaking valve, which is common for the older bronze gate valves. If this is the case, there’s a chance that the leak is inside your house. To determine where the leak is at, first, walk the length between the meter and the shut-off valve. Be on the lookout for soft or muddy areas. Once you’ve located this spot, it’s best to call in a professional plumber.
4. CHECK HOSE BIBS OUTSIDE
Now you’ll want to check the hose bibs located outside your house as well. Most homes have one at the front of the house and one at the back. But to be safe, make sure these are the only two that your home has.
Once located, take a screwdriver and place the metal part of it on the metal portion of the hose bib. Then take your thumb’s knuckle and place it at the other end of the screwdriver. Place your ear on your knuckle.
This works like a stethoscope. If there’s a leak that’s not visible, you’ll be able to hear it. Do this with all hose bibs located outside.
Now that you’ve checked all the hose bibs outside for leaks, it’s time to move inside.
5. CHECK ALL OTHER LEAK POINTS
There are many other leak points located inside your home and around it. Check all showerheads for leaks. If there’s a leak, you’ll notice dripping coming from it.
Check all faucets in the bathtubs, bathroom, and kitchen sinks, laundry room sinks, and more. You can use the same screwdriver technique used for the hose bibs outside if you suspect a leak on a faucet but don’t see one. A leaking faucet is normally the product of a worn-out rubber washer.
The washer is normally located under the handle. If you have the right tools, replacing the rubber washers is fairly easy. However, if you are unsure of it, then it’s a good idea to speak with a professional plumber.
Another place to check for leaks is your swimming pool. You should check garden hoses, taps, and drip irrigation systems as well.

Video Camera Plumbing Inspections

Call Our Skilled Ontario Plumbers Today
So you’ve got a plumbing problem, but you aren’t quite sure what it is. You think it’s a clog, but how do you know it’s not a collapsed or bellied pipe? Tree root intrusion? What about a pipe that’s come completely disconnected from the rest of your system? Unless you either tear up your yard or rip into your walls blindly until you find the damage, there’s no real way to know. However, a video camera inspection can get you this information quickly and accurately without the hassle of damaging your property or exposing plumbing lines.
How Does It Work?
Video camera inspections are fast, simple, and have become so valuable to a wide variety of plumbing services because they enable plumbers to do their job correctly. A video camera inspection involves feeding a specialized camera on a line into your plumbing system. The camera is particularly sensitive in low-light settings, and a small lamp on the front helps relay visual information as to what’s really going on in your plumbing lines. The camera feeds information back to a monitor, where you and your plumber can see for yourself what’s actually hurting your plumbing, and what needs to be done to fix it. These systems can even help figure out where a problem is so you don’t have to spend time ripping into your walls or yard until you find the location of the problem!

What are the most popular pipes in plumbing & Why?

Plumbing Pipe Differences: My Opinion on Different Piping Materials.
Updated June 3, 2019. Posted on Quora 27.5k answer views
2.7k Views April.
Kindly Share the Link to this Post.
My Answer:
For use and duration I would say ABS Plastic Piping, for Drains. The Good Points are you can Install. By just using an ABS Saw and or 2″ ABS tubing cutters for 2″ and 1 1/2″ pipe.
ABS is very flexible, so you can adjust the angle or the pitch as you go along in the installation with a Torpedo level. And if your roughing in a New Installation and there is only dirt and the forms. All you need is a tape measure, a saw, and maybe a pick and a shovel and a jack hammer for heavier digging. Well unless you can get the General contractor to dig the trenches for you when their doing the forms.
For a repair or replacement of an existing house. You may need more tools. Although not that many. Say maybe a couple of drop lights and an ABS saw a grinder, a Saw saw, tape measure, ABS Cutters, and a Right angle drill. I have done several hundred homes and several hotels with just these. Well basically.
And I would have to probably have to say PEX piping but I actually prefer to use Copper Piping. For the following reasons, in the 80s I installed similar piping, called Quest and it was all removed eventually. PEX is an upgrade and actually even the city seems to go with plastic piping for gas.
But like I said I didn’t say it’s bad I just said that I prefer Metal piping for Water Piping since it’s Under constant Pressure. And I also Prefer Metal piping for Gas. Another thing if you install plastic piing in the wall or in the attic mice can eat it and cause a leak or if someone drives a nail into the plastic piping. You CAN’T DRIVE A NAIL THROUGH STEEL PIPING ESPECIALLY FOR A GAS LINE INSTALLATION.
And like I said many plumbers will say it’s the best stuff in the world?
And it’s also way less in cost. But like I said I am not saying it’s Bad I am just saying that is WHAT I PREFER For Drains ABS Plastic. For Water Piping, Copper Piping, American Made preferably. And for Gas LINES, STEEL. I Guess I am Just Supper Cautious.
It may end up costing Me More but I feel better in the long run, Because I have seen ABS Installations last 50 + years or more, just so long as there not in the SUN’S UV Rays. And I have seen Copper Piping Installations last upwards of 60 + years, if installed correctly, with a pressure regulator, and the piping strapped and installed with Quality Materials.
Like I said. Everyone has their preference.
Some people may like small cars. I prefer a Mid-Size V-8 Ford Van. I just feel more comfortable in my van. To Each His own. Se La Vie.

How do you replace a water heater?
https://www.sandiegoplumberonline.com/plumber-san-diego-san-diego-plumber-posts/how-do-you-replace-a-water-heater
I will be brief and to the Point. The Water Heater that I prefer is called Rheem as I was growing up when I started many other plumbers would say That The Rheem Brand was the best.
Anyways I usually just have installed Rheem because
1.) I have always liked that Brand. And that is the Brand of water heater at the Home Depot.
2.) Any time I have bought something from the Home Depot and had a problem or because of the GUARANTEE. I was just able to return or exchange, or get a credit based on the age of the water heater applied towards a new one.. etc.. Basically not a big Hassle when returning something.
Another type of water heater is called a Tankless Water Heater. A few years ago I did install several but not recently.
1.) The Reason being that the parts were expensive especially the venting.
.
2.) An when you needed a part they were not that easy to find. Sometimes you even have to special order the parts.
But like I said when ever I had a problem. I could just go to the Home Depot and exchange for another, now I believe they will give you credit on the Water Heater if it’s still under warranty. (I Really Like The Thing Of Just Walking In And Getting Another Water Heater.) they have 6 year warranty, 9 year warranty and 12 year warranty. And you can also purchase a two year warranty on top of that.
The Water Heater I usually get is the 40 Gallon Rheem, 9 Year Warranty since it’s only I think Like 50 or 60 bucks difference from the 6 year warranty water heater. And Like I said You Can Purchase and extended 2 Year on Top of the 9 years.
Another Food for thought since you didn’t mention if was a Gas or Electric?
I won’t go to the specifics of either other then saying. Basically check all of the connections with soap and water if it’s a gas Water Heater. If it’s a electric Water Heater. Just make sure you know how to make the Electrical connections correctly. Or call a professional.
Another thing in California you have to place Earth Quake Straps, an a Expansion Tank. And pull a permit for the water heater installation.
And another thing you might look at is to put a drip pan for if it leaks someday to protect the floor.
And I always double secure the venting with sheet metal screws yes even if it’s Double wall venting or B Vent.
Basic steps when installing:
1. Remove water connections. (Make sure main water shutoff is off.)
2. Drain Water Heater. ( A SNEAKY TRICK I USE IF IT"S in the garage is I will connect 2" abs piping to drain valve on the water heater. But first you must take off the drain valve.)
3. Install earthquake straps, install new gas valve if needed, install a NEW GAS FLEX, install drip pan, check to make sure the sub-flooring where the water heater is good if not replace. Install water shut-off, and M.I.P. Adapters.
4. Install water, install expansion tank. make connections. and connect earthquake STRAPS. REMEMBER TO CHECK GAS CONNECTIONS with soap and water.
