I think a lot of people are forgetting that on tumblr fandom used to be practiced very differently. now everyone fucks off to their discords or tumblr groups to discuss everything with a select few, making tags be nearly only used for posting some finished fanworks or not at all

a decade ago people didn't have tumblr groups. people didn't even have dms. if you wanted to talk to anyone about anything you had to make a post, or send an ask (which more often than not would get published and thereby become a post in the end too)

so next time you think "I have a fandom thought but I have to find a small group of hyperspecifically like-minded people to share it with in private" remember all the freaks you could be missing out on meeting by keeping the tags dead. use tags, make friends. fuck discord.

i know the byers’ dog didn’t come back in s2 because the real life dog was an absolute menace to deal with and i think some of the actors just joked that the dog died in canon, but personally…

my headcanon is that post upside down will had such severe ptsd that chester’s barking and growling triggered him and that the byers unfortunately had to give up their family pet to help will try to adjust in the aftermath of s1. will absolutely sobbed because he felt so guilty, and he tried for so long to make it work but just couldn’t. 

in the end, jonathan is the one to take chester to the animal shelter, and he and joyce don’t let will come along because they know it’ll be too hard on him. jonathan hugs their family pet super tight, and he cries the entire way home because this dog has been with their family since he was a little kid, but he also recognizes that this is the best decision for will. 

anyways then, eventually the byers-hopper family adopts a dog together. the dog is an absolute menace, and hopper regrets every single day of his life that he said yes to letting his kids get a dog. joyce actually loves having a dog again, even if their dog is a bit of a scoundrel. and will and el? they like to argue over who the dog’s favorite is.

first time Lucas hears the word queer, he’s eight, sitting in church beside his father and Erica.

They’ve just finished praise singing, and honestly, it’s Lucas’s favorite part. He’s always loved music—how the hums and hymns find their way into his chest when words can’t.

He knows Kathy’s son hasn’t been to church in a while—at least not since Christmas, and that was forever ago. That’s one of the many curses that come with living in a small town: everyone knows everything.

But Kathy still comes and teaches Sunday service, and sometimes she’ll sneak him a peppermint or a butterscotch if he gets a Bible question right. So when the two women sitting in front of him start whispering after Sunday school, he can’t help but listen—since they’ve got her name in their mouth—even if his dad says to stay out of grown folks’ business.

“I heard he was queer; Full of the devil. That’s why he can’t sit through a lesson.”

“Mmm-hmm. Don’t no boy act that soft unless they queer.”

Their words are so bitter it catches him off guard, and he knows that they don’t normally talk like this. Sure, Mrs. Janet and Kara talk sometimes—it’s why Mama doesn’t like them—but their words don’t normally sound so rude, so full of hate.

His dad must’ve noticed he wasn’t paying attention to the lesson, because he flicks him behind the ear—not enough to hurt, just enough to make him sit up straight. Lucas gets the message to pay attention, and his eyes find their way back to the stand where the pastor is speaking.

Lucas is eight the first time he hears the word. He doesn’t know what queer means.

But he knows it’s bad.

Something that makes you miss service and has the church ladies gossiping.

That it’s something of the devil.

ideas for an alternate season4 instead of whatever. that was. 

• NO RUSSIANS they’re irrelevant to the story’s larger themes i want them outta here!!!!!!! 

• i dont know or care what that means for hopper or murray. lol. 

• anyway the season instead is focused on california because we need to get out of hawkins and actually place these characters somewhere that isn’t their familiar small town where they face the same threat over and over again but in different fonts. 

• instead we’re focusing largely on the byers family and how they’re coping in dealing with the big change in scenery but also not as late in their move maybe like a few months in? (notice how we don’t really see joyce or will talk about how they feel about the move or cali at all? yeah i saw that)
