Thought it was funny that both Liam and Zayn had handkerchiefs tucked in their back pockets.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I was just curious:
“Today, wearing color-coded handkerchiefs (bandanas), usually in the back pocket or around the belt loop, is the manner in which communication of desires and fetishes is achieved. Wearing a handkerchief on the left side of the body typically indicates one is a “top” (one considered active in the practice of the fetish indicated by the color of the handkerchief), while wearing it on the right side of the body would indicate one is a “bottom” (one considered passive in the practice of the fetish indicated by the color of the handkerchief). ” x

All I’m saying is that according to this, Zayn is a top who is into bondage. Liam is a bottom who’s into Anal sex.
Here are more sources that confirm this Hanky Code:
Cowboy Frank
Back in the Gays
Homo Health
The Vital Voice
The Twilight Guard

The Corporate Pride Bandana
In June 2023, Old Navy released a traditional navy blue bandana with rainbow graphics that inspired this fic fest.
Tumblr media
The rainbow graphics include text like "proud!" and "community" and a heart.
This is funny in the context of the long queer history of "flagging" with bandanas to communicate. I highly doubt the major retailer had any idea when they made this, but some queer person on their staff might have....
I used the Internet Archive to save the listing forever.

According to Shepard, some of the earliest recorded versions of the hanky code were found in one of the definitive guides to sexuality and subculture in the late 20th century: the second edition of Larry Townsend’s Leatherman’s Handbook, first published in 1983.
Gieseking says one of the earliest archived mentions of the hanky code in lesbian spaces can be found in the very first issue of On Our Backs, a lesbian erotic magazine, published in 1984. This publication featured a variety of hanky colors beyond the code published in Leatherman’s Handbook, like white lace for Victorian scenes, maroon for menstruation, and pink for breast fondling. Gieseking says this is an example of how queer people reinterpreted the hanky code and made it their own depending on their scene.
