hey all, i'm running another fic exchange! here is the info on it!

Announcing the 1d autumn fic exchange!  Brought to you by me even though I said I’d never run a fic exchange ever again!  Wooooo!

General Info

This exchange will be held on tumblr, so participants do not need to have a 1dff or ao3 account, just a tumblr and an email address.

This is an autumn fic exchange, so it’s a great opportunity for you to write a uni au or a story about pumpkins or a halloween fic or a summer nostalgia story, or anything really.  Prompts won’t be restricted to seasonal.  

Any and all 1d pairings are welcome, het or slash.  Each story must contain at least one 1d boy.

Word count minimum is 2000 words.  There is no maximum word count.

Writers who don’t have a ton of experience are especially encouraged to sign up.  This should be a fun experience for everyone!!  

How it works 

You will sign up via this google doc with three prompt ideas and info with what you’d like to write. 

You will be e-mailed an assignment and given someone else’s request information.  Meanwhile, someone else will receive your request and will be filling one of your prompts. It is important that you don’t reveal yourselves to your recipients or publicly talk in detail about your fic/assignment since the fics will be posted as a surprise.

If you won’t be able to finish, you can pull out up to two weeks before the deadline, but please let me know as soon as possible so that I can find someone else to fill your prompts. 

Finished stories will be posted on this tumblr.  You can post your story later to 1dff/ao3/your tumblr if you’d like, but initially they will be posted here.

Stories will be posted without banners or graphics, but you should feel free to post that stuff after the stories are posted on this tumblr. 

Stories will not be posted anonymously but will still be a fun surprise because you won’t know who’s writing for you until the stories are posted.

hiiii, i just rebageled the post for you.  if you contact me off anon i’d be happy to give you more info on how i took sign-ups and how i kept track of everything, but since your fest is centered on slash fic i’d suggest you look into using ao3 as your platform, as it handles a lot of the technical things, as well as anonymous posting, for you.  good luck!

This is where an Autumn Fic Exchange shall be conducted and it is just on the brink of starting out. It’d be very convenient of anyone to follow this blog to keep up with the updates. 

Signups will hopefully be opened sometime later in the month of June, depending on the amount of people willing to participate and considering the exchanges that are currently running.

If you are following this blog and waiting for the signups, then it’d be a good time to start mulling over prompt ideas.

This fic exchange is specifically designed for any writers or potential writers out there who aren’t completely confident in their writing or maybe haven’t actually written fic but want to. Absolutely everyone is welcome to sign up though!

General Info

All 1d pairings are welcome in this exchange, as long as at least one band member is included in the main pairing. A romantic pairing is not necessary as long as at least one band member plays a major role, so ot5 friendship fics are also welcome.

There are no word count restrictions. You can write as little or as much as you’d like. If you’re worried about getting a short fic gifted to you, this might not be the exchange for you. All writing contributions are appreciated!

How it works

You will sign up on ao3. You must have an ao3 account to participate! If you do not have an ao3 account, contact Tori or Alison to have an invite sent to you!

You will write out a request and an offer on ao3. Your request should include up to three pairings you’d most enjoy reading and three prompts for each pairing. (However, you can use the same prompt for all of your chosen pairings if you’d like!!!) Your offer should include any pairings you’re willing to write, as well as information about what you’d particularly like to write and what you don’t want to write. There will be a post explaining how to sign up once sign-ups are open and we’ll give you more information about this then!

You will be e-mailed an assignment and given someone else’s request information. You will write that person a fic, choosing one of their prompts to fill. Meanwhile, someone else will receive your request and will be filling one of your prompts. It is important that you don’t reveal yourselves to your recipients or publicly talk in detail about your fic/assignment.

We’ll have a resource list available with “hand-holders” who are people you can contact to talk to as you write your fic. It’s up to you as to whether you share the fic with them, but they can discuss ideas with you or just cheer you on and tell you you’re doing great. (This is very useful for even the most accomplished and experienced writers, so don’t feel bad seeking them out!!!) We’ll also have a list of people willing to beta (proofread for errors) and britpick (proofread for americanisms- words/phrases a british person wouldn’t use) fics. You can use your hand-holder for this, too, but sometimes it’s good to have a second set of eyes. 

If you won’t be able to finish, please let us know as soon as possible. If you just need new prompts, we can always help out with that, but if it’s something else and you just can’t finish, we understand. It happens. All we ask is that you contact us as soon as you know you won’t be able to finish so we can assign a pinch hitter.

You will post your fic to the ao3 collection. Specific instructions on posting fics will be released later, but you may post as early as you’d like. If you have questions, let us know.

Dates

Sign-ups will open January 26 and close February 9.

Assignments will be sent out by February 16.

Fics will be due by May 15.

Author reveal date tbd depending on participation.

I'm not really looking to "choose a successor" as such -- this is a pretty unofficial thing and anyone who wants to run a fic exchange should feel free.  I simply meant that if somebody wants my help, they should ask for it and I'd be willing to give it.

Are you thinking about doing this again?

I have no plans to run a fic exchange again, especially not by myself, but I would definitely be willing to give someone my "system" (all of my google docs, spreadsheets, and everything I used to organize and plan) if they wanted it.  A kind of guide to running a fic exchange, tips and tricks and such.  I probably I would've saved myself quite the headache if I hadn't started from scratch, and I would love to offer my help to anyone who decides to run one in the future.
