more progress for my scene. It will be the streamers mascot on a pool, in a retro 80′s gridscape.

An article that i went through recently in a meeting with Peter. While not exactly everything in this article is helpful for me, It still offered a lot of aid towards writing my current Cover Letter.

The website for “Red Star 3D”, a Sheffield-based studio that creates CG films for attractions and rides across the UK. I’m interested by their work, and plan to write my cover letter as if i was applying for a job there as a CG Animator (Job Available at time of writing)

i’ve begun working on my main piece of work for this project. I’ve started by modelling a pool lilo. I used photoshop to plan out exactly how to go about making it.

I’ve decided that the main piece of work i’ll produce for this project will be an animated scene loop. It will be a “Be Right Back” screen for an online creator and streamer “Vinesauce”. When taking breaks, they play “BRB” screens from fans. I enjoy this idea, as it means what i create will actually be used for something.

Animation Base is a website that has proven massively helpful to me and my work for this unit. They provide a lot of insight towards what is needed to work an animation job, as well as hints towards real job opportunities.

“Moo” is a business card printing company that I’ve been looking into, in the hopes of gaining some insight towards what makes a good business card.

a dramatic speedline effect i created in after effects! It took me about 30 minutes with a tutorial. I enjoy getting to make small effects.

Final Evaluation
Research was a key part of this project, and a lot of my work relied on the research done, to understand how to create a quality piece of self-advertising work. My meetings with Peter and Helen were gigantic helps towards me understanding what makes a good cv/cover letter/ etc. I also looked at online resources, and guides on how to write good cv’s and cover letters, but i would have preferred it if i had looked at more individual examples of cv’s and cover letters.
This project was a good time for me to develop non animation business skills, such as how to “put myself out there” in the job world, and how to properly communicate when writing a professional letter.
In closing, this project was a necessary look into something i had no previous understanding on. I’ve learnt a lot from this project, but do deeply wish i had spent more time on it. I was the producer on my group film project, that was going on at the same time, and i allocated a lot of my time away from this project towards my film. That being said, i’m very happy with how my cv turned out, and cv writing is a necessary skill i’ll need for the rest of my life.

Weekly Summaries
Week 1: This week I’ve started work on the Personal Portfolio project. In truth, I have not been able to start this project until now as I have been focusing on the group collaboration project. My role as a producer has been taking up most of my work hours, and I’ve been neglecting this project as a result. However, This week I started having support meetings with our course leader, Peter. I’m hoping with these weekly checkups I can make sure I’m actually understanding and progressing on this project.
Week 2: This week marks the start of the Easter break for me. My plan for most of my time away from university is to be working on the animation for my short film, but i do intend to do some progress on the personal portfolio project. Following my meeting with Peter last week, I got a start on my CV, and made a lot of changes to my online portfolio. I will wait until later in the project, when i have much more presentable work, to finish the website.
Week 3: I’ve spent this week doing research into various online resources for my “Career Pack”. various online guides and websites that help me further understand exactly what i need to do for my CV, Cover Letter and Business Cards. I also learnt how to create a fun, dramatic dash effect in After Effects this week, after stumbling upon a tutorial online.
Week 4: As my main focus when away from university for Easter has been in the other project, I am still researching into CV and Cover Letter writing from home. I have also decided what I will create as my “Animated Sequence”. An online content creator that i am fond of, “Vinesauce” uses fan-created “Be Right Back” screens whilst he livestreams. I Intend to create one of these for use. I believe it will be a useful project to push my “3D Generenalist” talents, as well as a fun personal opportunity, as it’s something i’ll enjoy making, and something i know will actually be used.
Week 5: I’m back in university this week, and back into meetings with Peter. I brought him an updated version of my CV, and together we went through what other changes needed to be made. The most valuable thing I’ve learnt for creating a CV is that if its possible, I want to make most of the information visual. I also met up with lecturer Helen, to get another persons thoughts on the CV. While some of her opinions contradicted those of Peter, using the words of both of them I was able to create a professional CV I am proud of.
Week 6: This week I created a completed Cover Letter with Peter. Following his advice from last year, I found an actual job position fit for me, and wrote my covering letter as if i was applying for that job. I chose a position of 3D Animator at “Red Star 3D” in Sheffield. With Peters help, I was able to use the correct language to come across confident and professional. I was also able to get started on my Showreel this week, as I am beginning to have presentable footage come out from my Group Film Project. I will wait until i have finished my Animated Sequence to complete it, however.
Week 7: This week I finished the project! I was able to finish modelling my animated sequence scene, and start a render earlier in the week. I was able to render out the scene how i wanted using what i learnt from my time on the “Ocean City” project. While the scene was rendering, I cleaned up and finished my showreel, with a tiny gap for the animated sequence when it was done rendering. I also gathered high quality shots from my film and the scene, and added them to website.
