okay let’s think about this for a second: Sam gets manipulated by Ruby to do evil things, does Dean kill him? Lock him up in a box? No. Dean is manipulated by Crowley into accepting the MOC, does Sam kill him? Lock him up in a box? No. Cas is manipulated into closing heaven, do they kill him, lock him up? No! But here Jack is, two years old, being manipulated by an ACTUAL FUCKING ANGEL, and both Sam and Dean agree he needs to be locked up?

Dean and Michael- A Metaphor for Mental Illness?

As I was watching the scene between Cas and Dean where they discussed Dean trying to contain Michael, it occurred to me how similar it sounded to something I live with-mental illness. Like Dean, I am constantly on edge. I can’t relax, I’m always walking on eggshells, never happy- just content because it is always there, lurking in the back of my mind trying to take over. And if it were to do so, if I were to break down it would cause pain to myself and those are me(although not to the degree that a rogue archangel would). I like Dean, often lie and say I’m fine so I don’t upset others. Another thing our situations have in common is that we have both considered drastic permanent solutions to our problems. For Dean, locking himself and Michael in the box and being thrown to the bottom of the ocean for eternity. For me, ending my life. But for both of us, the solution is neither holding it in and pretending it is there while it just builds up, nor is it doing something extreme and irreversible. It is confronting the problem and fighting it head-on, not alone but with the help of those around us, the people we were afraid to burden or put in danger, who love us enough that they see us as worth fighting for(even when we don’t see it ourselves). Then, only then can we fight our demons and win.

jensen ackles is a truly talented human being. i love watching him play michael particularly because i love finding the little differences that tie the performance together.

for example, i was wondering why it was that dean and michael look so different. dean always has hard lines to his face

here he has super furrowed gross and high cheeks with squinty eyes.

same thing here—arched brows forehead lines cheekbones— all help him express emotion as well as help us tell it’s him

but when he’s michael there are less lines in his face

smooth features, lips lay flatter to flatten his cheekbones, and eyes wide open and a little emotionless

and again here. despite jensen’s naturally hard line between his eyebrows there aren’t many lines on his face now when he’s michael.

it’s astounds me that this man is so talented. all he has to do is smooth his features and relax his face and he already portrays that ‘oh no that’s not dean’ like he hadn’t even said a word and all of the sudden you can tell it’s not the dean we know and love. jensen ackles is truly an amazing actor and he deserves all of our praise
