My players are working their way through Waterdeep: Dragon Heist but they aren’t great at taking notes. Since stuff is about to go down, I figure I need to train them into it. So… what’s a DM to do? Design them their own notes documents? Obviously. Download the PDF here.
Any feedback team? Do these seem like they’d be useful for players? Anything else I should include?

Hey guys, it’s that time of year again! Time to stress about what to get your wonderful friends for the winter-y holiday! WELL, NO FEAR! Any of these books would make totally a rad gift for that special someone in your life (namely your DM, who keeps threatening to kill your characters and/or have a stress breakdown from your shenanigans.)
- Table Fables: A Collection of Tables for the Weary Game Master is an illustrated book filled with over 90 useful tables and generators designed for DMs! (-Click here to check it out on Amazon!-)
- Table Fables II: The Worldbuilder’s Handbook is the sequel, filled with even more tables with a focus on, well, world building. XD (-Click here to check it out on Amazon!-)
- The Adventures Of: Record Keeping for Game Masters is a massive book/journal designed to help you document your tabletop RPG adventures, with space for fifty-two campaigns and ten players! (-Click here to check it out on Amazon!-)
- Character Compendium is a huge book filled with over 800 NPCs, just in case you need an NPC ASAP! This was written by my brother, and it’s super useful! (-Click here to check it out on Amazon!-)
Anyway, thank you guys so much for checking these out! You’re wonderful, and I hope you have a wonderful holiday season!

Name: Dullahan, ‘Gan Ceann’ (without a head) Area of Origin: Ireland The Dullahan is a headless rider, and being the most famous of its kind, was likely the inspiration for Washington Irving’s Headless Horseman character. The rider was usually on a dark horse, carrying his or her own head. The decapitated head was said to have constant hideous grin, and its skin was the consistency and color of moldy cheese. The rider’s weapon is a whip fashioned from a human spinal cord. In some variations, the horse was pulling a cart made out of bodyparts, like the spokes of the wheels being made from bones, or its cover being made from dried human skin. When the Dullahan stops riding, that is where a person is doomed to die, after which the rider calls them by name and takes their life. There is seemingly no way to stop a Dullahan, as all locks and gates open to them upon approach, though strangely enough, they are afraid of gold, and can be temporarily driven away by the mere sight of it. They also apparently do not like being watched, often throwing buckets of blood on those who dare to do so.

Women In History
I grew up believing that women had contributed nothing to the world until the 1960′s. So once I became a feminist I started collecting information on women in history, and here’s my collection so far, in no particular order.
Lepa Svetozara Radić (1925–1943) was a partisan executed at the age of 17 for shooting at German soldiers during WW2. As her captors tied the noose around her neck, they offered her a way out of the gallows by revealing her comrades and leaders identities. She responded that she was not a traitor to her people and they would reveal themselves when they avenged her death. She was the youngest winner of the Order of the People’s Hero of Yugoslavia, awarded in 1951

23 year old Phyllis Latour Doyle was British spy who parachuted into occupied Normandy in 1944 on a reconnaissance mission in preparation for D-day. She relayed 135 secret messages before France was finally liberated.

Catherine Leroy, War Photographer starting with the Vietnam war. She was taken a prisoner of war. When released she continued to be a war photographer until her death in 2006.

Lieutenant Pavlichenko was a Ukrainian sniper in WWII, with a total of 309 kills, including 36 enemy snipers. After being wounded, she toured the US to promote friendship between the two countries, and was called ‘fat’ by one of her interviewers, which she found rather amusing.

Johanna Hannie “Jannetje” Schaft was born in Haarlem. She studied in Amsterdam had many Jewish friends. During WWII she aided many people who were hiding from the Germans and began working in resistance movements. She helped to assassinate two nazis. She was later captured and executed. Her last words were “I shoot better than you.”.

Nancy wake was a resistance spy in WWII, and was so hated by the Germans that at one point she was their most wanted person with a price of 5 million francs on her head. During one of her missions, while parachuting into occupied France, her parachute became tangled in a tree. A french agent commented that he wished that all trees would bear such beautiful fruit, to which she replied “Don’t give me any of that French shit!”, and later that evening she killed a German sentry with her bare hands.
After her husband was killed in WWII, Violette Szabo began working for the resistance. In her work, she helped to sabotage a railroad and passed along secret information. She was captured and executed at a concentration camp at age 23.

Grace Hopper was a computer scientist who invented the first ever compiler. Her invention makes every single computer program you use possible.

Mona Louise Parsons was a member of an informal resistance group in the Netherlands during WWII. After her resistance network was infiltrated, she was captured and was the first Canadian woman to be imprisoned by the Nazis. She was originally sentenced to death by firing squad, but the sentence was lowered to hard lard labor in a prison camp. She escaped.

Simone Segouin was a Parisian rebel who killed an unknown number of Germans and captured 25 with the aid of her submachine gun. She was present at the liberation of Paris and was later awarded the ‘croix de guerre’.
Mary Edwards Walker is the only woman to have ever won an American Medal of Honor. She earned it for her work as a surgeon during the Civil War. It was revoked in 1917, but she wore it until hear death two years later. It was restored posthumously.

Italian neuroscientist won a Nobel Prize for her discovery of nerve growth factor. She died aged 103.
EDIT
jinxedinks added: Her name was Rita Levi-Montalcini. She was jewish, and so from 1938 until the end of the fascist regime in Italy she was forbidden from working at university. She set up a makeshift lab in her bedroom and continued with her research throughout the war.

A snapshot of the women of color in the woman’s army corps on Staten Island
This is an ongoing project of mine, and I’ll update this as much as I can (It’s not all WWII stuff, I’ve got separate folders for separate achievements).
File this under: The History I Wish I’d Been Taught As A Little Girl

Hey~ can you tell us about the straw hats with veils coming down to cover the wearer's face we see mostly in wuxia? I have seen some very pretty ones with added accessories like pearls and flowers too. What are they called?
Hi, thanks for the question!

The traditional Chinese veiled hats that we mostly see in Wuxia are called Weimao/帷帽. I wrote about the history of Weimao in this post. Please also see this post by fate-magical-girls for further information on the history/evolution of Chinese veiled hats.

As you’ve noticed, it’s recently become trendy among Hanfu wearers to decorate Weimao with various kinds of accessories such as pearls and flowers. The effect is really pretty!

Weimao can be worn by men as well:

For more references, please check out my Weimao tag!

Hope this helps!

Settlement Sheet (by luckpack)
[The following text may have been edited for accessibility]
“This is essentially a character sheet, but it’s for towns and other settlements instead of persons. It’s intended to help guide the creation process and facilitate reading and organization.
I recommend using it with my [NPC Sheets.]
Below are Google Drive download links. All PDFs have two pages: the first one is the front and the second one is the back. The Form Fillable version has no lines, so you can download and print it without filling the forms if you want.
[Settlement Sheet]
[Settlement Sheet, Form Fillable]
[Settlement Sheet, Printer Friendly]
[Settlement Sheet, Form Fillable, Printer Friendly]
I intentionally left some things out from this sheet:
Some DMs like writing down “Notable Items” in their settlement notes, but this has never made sense to me. I view special items as NPC belongings or Quests rewards, not something location specific.
The prices, foods, drinks and services provided by the local inn, as well as the inventories of stores. Rather than writing all this down for every settlement, I prefer having a single document for every store. I recommend checking this [Traders & Merchants homebrew] and this [Shopping Catalog homebrew.] Both can be referred to whenever players visit any and all stores.
Town random encounters. I don’t do those, personally.
Of course, if you want to write down any of those you can use the Notes section in the back.

art tips post
for all the artist following me
Have two sketchbooks: One for finished and high-quality art (stuff made with Prismacolor or Copic if you use that or art for your portfolio) and the other sketchbook for more messy doodles. This way you have a place to try new things and mess up as much as you need. When I only had one sketchbook I was scared to draw in it because I didn't want to mess it up
Do studies. I cant tell you how much I've improved just by doing studies of shoes, hands, noses, and all that. This works for when you have art block too since you’re not really making stuff up and just learning how real things work.
Learn from others. I’ve never taken a real art class because 1. I can’t afford it and 2. there’s no good art classes/programs at my school. I’ve been following several artists and learning from them over the years and they’ve helped me tremendously. Just please do not steal art because that is never okay.
Break down concepts. If you notice there’s something wrong with your piece then figure out why. You can’t get better if you leave mistakes and don't try to understand whats going on. If the color is weird figure out if the values look right or maybe its the saturation of the color.
Watch youtube tutorials. Here are some youtubers I think are pretty good art teaching all things art: Draw with Jazza | DrawingWiffWaffles | Proko | Baylee Jae
Have an inspiration folder/blog. Sometimes you just need a collection of starry nights or a misty forest or even a French bakery. All of those things can help you get inspired to draw. It could even be completely unrelated to what you plan to draw.
There are no dumb ideas in the creative process. If you want to draw a lizard in a dress go for it! If you want to draw various pastries with faces do it! Don’t let the thought of it being too dumb stop you because if I’ve learned anything in my several years of drawing it’s that an idea can lead to another and another and another and you may get a really good idea just from doodling dumb things.
Here’s a few things that can get you started on drawing better:
Dynamic poses | Dynamic clothes | Dynamic figure drawing
COMPOSITION | PERSPECTIVE | CONSTRUCTION
Anatomy:
Legs
Arms
Hands
Heads
Body (Female) (Male
Color Theory
Improving your sketchbook
Most importantly, don’t give up! You may not immediately get notes or followers but it’s more important you get better than to have popularity. How do you think those popular artists got to where they are now? To be good you’ve got to work at it.
