“ not really… i knew yusuke was prone to seizures- he told me so himself. ” she shifts, watching the lawyer go over his reasoning. finding herself nodding along to his reasoning. she shifts at his words,  “ that’s… right. i’m sorry, wright-san. i don’t… remember anything from during that time period. i mean- i’m probably strong enough to pick him up, but i couldn’t carry him very far without collapsing. and definitely not that far. ”

                  ‘  there was also a witness on the scene who saw you attempt to flee.  the one who made the original emergency call.  ‘  he paused,  shaking his head.  ‘  even if he was prone to seizures,  i read his medical file  :  his last one was back when he was still a mere child.  it’s odd how it all of a sudden happened...  he’s still in the emergency unit as we speak.  ‘  unconscious,  &  definitely needing some attention from medical professionals.  the poor kid.  he just couldn’t catch a break, could he  ?  ‘  it’s alright.  we’ll get to the bottom of it.  i promise.  i know you’re not guilty.  &  i’m sure kitagawa will be alright.  i just hope he regains consciousness soon,  maybe he could give us some insight.  ‘

“ she didn’t do it. ” their eyes burn into the lawyer, sharp and cold like steel. they waste no time voicing their opinion. they’d need time to properly build up a solid cover story for yusuke’s… extracurricular activities. “ nothing too unusual- i got into a nearly physical fight with my uncle’s ex partner- but neither of us like each other all that much- so that wasn’t too unusual, in my opinion. ”

                   physical altercation  ...  ?  perhaps they shouldn’t be the one telling him this.  ‘  i  -  i see...  i believe she didn’t do it either,  but please  :  remain relevancy here.  ‘  he just needed more information about kitagawa.  there was almost nothing in the systems  :  besides the case against ichiryusai madarame.  ‘  your uncle being,  chief of police,  ryotaro dojima,  correct  ?  are you implying,  his ex  -  partner had something to do with this...  ?  ‘

            “  it’s a bit silly.  ”  at least, it was to her at times. those closest to her had reassured her that her reasoning was great—-it had taken a bit of time for sae to jump on board with the idea, but her boyfriend and her friends were incredibly supportive.  “  my family has always been involved in law in some way. my sister is an attorney, like yourself, and my father was a police officer.  ”  she could leave it at that. that was certainly enough information to divulge to her sister’s former enemy in the courtroom, but makoto had taken a liking to phoenix.  “  my dad died in the line of duty. he was investigating a gang, and they caught wind of it. i’m hoping to work my way up to police commissioner and finish the work my father started.  ”  it was a dangerous goal—-something she and sae could actually agree on, but it was appealing to the youngest of the niijima sisters.  “  do you mind my asking on why you chose to pursue law?  ”  it couldn’t be anything like her sister’s reasoning, at least. sae had her eye on prosecuting in high school. some nonsense about seeing the justice their father served seen through to the very end.

                   listening to her story  ...  made him feel a bit nervous about sharing his own.  she had completely valid reasoning  -  being within law almost ran within her blood.  an anxious sigh passed through his lips,  before his fingers gently rubbed against his own cheek.  ‘  now that you’ve spoken yours,  mine seems rather....  childish.  ‘  he gave a light  -  hearted smile.  ‘  with your sister being a prosecutor,  i’m sure you’re aware of the name of miles edgeworth  ?  ‘  dark hues would blink a few times in thought,  the memory was a bit too special for him  --  despite both larry  &  miles appearing not to care about it.  ‘  when i was in grade school,  we were in the same class.  edgeworth got his lunch money stolen from him,  &  the whole class thought i did it.  we had a  “  class trial  “  about it.  even when i was found guilty,  he stuck up for me.  he knew i didn’t do it.  ‘  he paused,  a nervous laugh beginning to form.  ‘  i never wanted to feel like that again,  &  although it’s kind of... silly,  so to say,  but i knew i wanted to relieve the false accusations of others, just like he did for me.  ‘

“ that’s correct… ”  it wasn’t anything she hadn’t heard before- in fact, spending hours in a police cell being interrogated to the point of tears, meant that she was now ( unwillingly ) overly familiar to the details of the crime.her eyes look up at him, tears rolling down her face.“ fishy? whaddya mean? ”

                   ‘  ---  well...  ‘  his pointer finger  &  thumb carefully rubbed at the smooth skin on his chin,  trying to pin  -point the correct words.  ‘  doesn’t it strike you as odd,  that he was found in mid  -  seizure  ?  after being missing for nearly a week  ?  conveniently,  in public  ?  ‘  his head would tilt,  it wasn’t adding up.  he knew she was suspected for abduction  &  assault,  saying she kept him locked in a room,  being ruthlessly beaten,  least that’s what the injuries seemed to tell.  ‘  even if they argue that you placed him there to die,  there’s...  no feeble way.  he was discovered here,  in the park.  your house is here,  correct  ?  i’m no medical expert,  but there’s no way you could transport him in that time frame from your house,  to the park,  with him still having a seizure.  ‘
