have you ever wanted to have your very own whumpee locked away in a basement to horribly mistreat? silly little things like "legal" or "moral" issues got in the way of fulfilling that desire? why not try it in a videogame instead!
i've had this project in the works for a while, but it's slowly entering the (very) early alpha stages! i would like to present an as of yet untitled "whump game". much like in those "virtual pet" style games that used to be popular a ~decade ago, you'll have to take care of your captive and check in on him every now and again. the video is just an early version of the customization screen - there's a lot more to come! some of the features i'm currently working on:
more customization options!
a system of rewards/punishments.
a diary for your whumpee.
ways to make money and buying clothes, accessories, etc.
a health and hunger system - try to keep your whumpee alive.
a story. yes, this will be more than just a tamagotchi clone with torture!!
a playable multiplatform build (probably on itch.io).

hey, it's me! i'm still alive, somehow, though just barely. this semester has been pretty tough so far and will probably remain that way until spring. despite this, i managed to add some fun new features. : ) ALSO i promise 100000% that if you sent me an ask i WILL answer it. i will. anyway, look at all those cool things! -> a system for cuts, bruises, tattoos, wounds and other decorations your whumpee's skin is an empty canvas. whether you fill it with scars and wounds or cutesy band aids is up to you!

the way this is set up is kind of like a bunch of stickers. so for example, if you decide to hurt the lil' guy with something sharp, he'll get a "stab wound" sticker in the spot you decided to target. over time, that sticker will change over to a "stab scar" one. it's a very flexible way to do things, but it still needs some work and a couple big changes, since it's very unfriendly to low-end computers. in terms of visuals though, it should look exactly the same as the decal-based "decorations" for your whumpee that you see above!
- a better way of getting that dude on camera the camera system is now a lot more immersive and will fit the story. the awkward developer cam that could clip into walls is no more.
you can drag around the view and zoom in and out by scrolling. as you progress, you'll get access to even more ways to invade your whumpee's privacy. : )
-> new ways to get horny in the last devlog post (around 1000 years ago) i said that you won't see any "horny accessories" in the upcoming updates. that was a complete lie, sorry! here's a preview of some cool new horns you can give to your whumpee.

the neat part is that the horns are customizable - other than just choosing the shape, you can modify their size and color gradient. -> other stuff + story i've made plenty of changes and additions to the back end. most of it is not flashy or super significant - most of the time and energy i could dedicate to the project went right into fueling the violent, bloody conflict between me and custom shader code. i've also made some updates to how time is simulated and fixed a bunch of bugs. there is now a sound system too! i'll look for some copyright-free sfx and music before the next update. oh, and there's some lore too!

chained in my basement, malnourished and mistreated, but not forgotten, and still very much alive.
unfortunately, college has been kicking my ass lately, and will continue to do so until i finish my master's thesis. the good news is that this will continue for only about a month before i have more time to work on the project! the bad news is that i have only about a month to finish the entire paper. :' )
here's a little screenshot from a story sequence to prove that the project has not been completely neglected and forgotten!

my thoughts: yes!!! very good. assuming this is about the game, i've just added them! i am what you call "tumblr ask motivated". : ) and if it's not about the game, too bad, you're getting thorny accessories in it anyway.

YOUR GAME IDEA IS GIVIMG ME BRAIN WORMS AGGHHHHHH-
A neat little thought I have is about injuries. Like after you brutally torture your poor whumpee, you can choose to treat wounds and such or leave them, and if left untreated for too long causes infection and their health to go down bit by bit everyday.
And if you constantly touch?? Torture?? Attack??? Idk I can’t find the word for it-the same wound/area over and over again there might be permanent consequences??
That second one might be a bit hard to implement..but it’s a neat thought! AAAAAA
Ooh! And a quick question (hope this isn’t too much-) how do you plan on adding the ‘feed and take care of whumpee’ thing. More specifically do you have to get food yourself or is that just an automatic thing?

kfsdjkfjKFJA i thought i answered this but apparently it just....... saved only the first paragraph of what i wrote and it never published????? tumblr u ok? so sorry to keep your ask waiting this long! ; ___ ; but feed your brainworms and make sure they stay inside your head, cuz there's going to be more updates soon! since you've sent this (and since i've tried to reply the first time around) i've managed to add a bunch of new features that will get their bigger update post soon-ish.
i really like the concept of treating wounds and the possibility of infections and permanent damage - that's definitely something i'll take a look at. for now there's a simple yet very modular damage system, where bruises slowly fade out and open wounds turn to scars over time. like this:

i suppose i could add a check where an untreated wound would change its state to an infected one after some amount of time instead of turning into a scar? i'll see!
feeding and taking care of your whumpee are for now just simple button prompts. honestly, i don't really know how it's going to end up looking in future builds - a minigame where you stich wounds would or prepare meals would be cool but it's not on the list of priorities right now.

thank you so much for the words of encouragement!! <333 i would also like to wish YOU (and everyone who's waiting for the thing) a ton of patience. :') also, i actually will be asking for help (i kinda am right now in this response too i guess?). in the upcoming devpost where i tag a whole bunch of ppl (that taglist is huge btw i love every single person who is on it tysm) there will be a dedicated "artists save me. help me artists" section where i come to terms with the fact that i can't do all of this by myself. : ) there's just a couple more things that i'd like to finish before posting the next update so it's not just a cry for help.

thanks!!!!!!! no release date planned so far, sorry. so far every single estimate i've made for a playable build being available has been dead wrong so your guess is as good as mine. :' ) the game is going to be available at itch.io for free for windows, linux and mac!

Will your game be available on mobile (I'm an iOS user 😭)
up until recently it was kind of ???? on whether or not it could run on mobile, but i've added some gameplay features that pretty much made it pc only, sorry. :( optimizing a game so it can run on mobile is difficult in itself but getting approved for the app store on ios devices is a whoooole different beast entirely, and they tend to be very picky. so a game about torture, pain and captivity would probably get rejected (fun fact: tumblr stopped allowing nsfw content because the app store wasn't happy about it). on an android you can just download an .apk file and run it even if it's not on their app store, but with ios i'm pretty sure you'd need to jailbreak your phone. which for legal reasons i can't recommend.

ooo what about a disease system for the game? Like whumpee gets sick and might have slower movements or struggle to intake food? (Medical whump is just- yes-)
i like this idea a lot! but it'd take a while to implement well. i could just make illness a part of the mechanics, so your whumpee simply gets a debuff if some condition is met (e.g., not treating a wound gives an x% chance for them to wake up sick the next day => when sick hunger and sleep replenish y% slower), though that by itself sounds kinda boring (and annoying at worst). i feel like it would need some visuals and a more intricate system, and i'm trying to prioritize other (more basic) features rn. i'll definitely keep it in mind though!

Instead of like uhh. Voices (bc voice acting and all that MOENY) you could try and do text bubbles. That could be fun :3c
i'll consider that! so far it's just journal entries and not a lot of spoken dialogue, but speech bubbles could be neat in combination with what every single indie developer under the sun does when a game needs voices - those little animal crossing-esque talking sounds, my beloved.

unfortunately, no such plans at the moment. the sfx stuff that i have doesn't really cut it. it's repetitive and it's mostly "action hero taking damage" kind of pain rather than the "crying, begging to make it stop" kind of pain. i would probably need a voice actor to make it sound any good? and uuuh i don't feel confident about screaming, sobbing and whimpering convincingly so i would need to find someone who does, which doesnt seem fit for my $0 budget.

hey hello hi there i'm still alive, somehow, but the semester that just started is doing its best to change that :'' ) finishing up my thesis and having to go through a depressingly lengthy commute so i can work in some dingy underground lab at the very edge of town is tough on my Brain & Body. but! the progress on the game has been going at a steady (though a tiny bit sluggish) pace. tbh i have enough features to drop another update post but i'm procrastinating ultra-hard. the most important thing that i got working is probably a visual depiction of damage that's nice and modular - scars, bruises, cuts, holes and other wounds work kinda like "stickers" that can be placed pretty much anywhere. also, i've managed to upgrade the render pipeline of the project to a better one and almost nothing broke! i don't want to get into the details, but render pipelines are probably the single fuckiest thing in unity. tl;dr i'm very busy with university stuff but the project is progressing. i'm too lazy to write a proper update post. as an apology (and a demo of some upcoming ragdoll-related features!) take this funny glitch i got:

I knew it was gonna be Unity once you mentioned the bone problem, lol. Good luck with it. I'm still arguing with the IK system myself.
LMAO yeah, everything works so nicely and smoothly in blender but once you force whatever rigify outputs into mecanim it's just. a mess. good luck with IK! you'll have some sick ass procedural animations once you get it to work. :salute emoji:
