May 14, 2024 - White-faced Nunbird or White-faced Puffbird (Hapaloptila castanea)
These puffbirds are found in and around cloud forests in parts of Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru. They feed on insects, spiders, buds, fruit, and small vertebrates, foraging mostly in the canopy and sometimes following mixed-species flocks. Only one of their nests has been described, a burrow lined with small leaves in a bank under a tree. Both parents built the nest, incubated the clutch of two eggs, and fed the chicks.
