i cannot get over nimona’s face in this scene - the absolutely heartbroken expression she has because she knows what it’s like for someone you love to point their sword at you

My first post of my own to say that the Renfield movie is for anxious, autistic survivors of narcissistic abuse, and that it does that fucking story BEAUTIFULLY. It is not a Dracula adaptation per say, it is literally about escaping an abusive situation and the challenges that come with it, that just so happens to have Dracula in it.

thinking about the man who laughs 1928 again and how gwynplaine’s mouth is so heavily associated with intimacy for him
like, he doesn’t let dea, the love of his life, touch it until he’s fully ready to commit to a relationship with her. and when he realizes that josiana was only fetishizing him and tries to run, she violently tries to pull his hands away from his mouth, to the point where it almost seems like sexual assault. he keeps his mouth covered either with a scarf or his hands for most of the time, and veidt adds in this really interesting character beat where he covers it whenever he’s distressed.
which is why, when he unveils his mouth in front of parliament, it’s such a powerful scene; his largest insecurity is on display, and he would rather embrace it than live a life away from his loved ones, with a woman who mocks and objectifies him. and it’s also why it’s so agonizing when, at the carnival show, he has to show the crowds his mouth and they laugh at him. it’s not just the humiliation that hurts him; it’s revealing such an intimate, personal aspect of him, day after day, to crowds of people who ridicule him. even ursus, who is essentially gwynplaine’s surrogate father and cares deeply for him, uses his disability as a way to draw crowds, advertising the fact that his face was mutilated when he was ten. gwynplaine letting dea touch his mouth is such a powerful moment in the film, because it’s the first time he reveals it without feeling any shame, but instead a desire to share that intimacy.

Okay but depending on the time between when the queen was murdered and nimona coming to help ballister (about a month? Month and a half? Idk) ambrosius could have very well thought that he had killed him

!!!BARBIE SPOILERS!!!
I love that she went to the gynecologist at the end of the film!
Because 1) it’s funny as hell and an excellent call back to earlier in the film and 2) it’s something that SO MANY women do regularly! It’s so mundane yet…weirdly relatable. I’m kinda struggling to verbalize this but I hope my point is able to get across.
I fully thought that she was going to walk into Mattel and apply to be the CEO. But I love that it WASN’T that.
It also ties into what Ruth was telling her just moments before in the film. This Barbie still gets that ambiguous ending, she’s not Barbie, she’s Barbra! We don’t get to see the exact end point of her story, just that she’s excited to go live it!!
