People need to realize how the internet changes the context of things, because everyone acts like an authority or like they're an example of common public opinion when they're online. I recently met someone who had a lot of reddit environmentalist takes irl. And while those are things that would seem like serious climate takes online, when they say them irl in an actual conversation my internal reaction tends to be "do you need help, I don't think thinking about this is good for your mental health". And now I'm thinking of analyzing things I read online (or even say online) as if they were meatspace statements. '

Someone calling a kid's interests cringe. Imagine them doing that irl. Imagine how disgustingly unseemly an adult making fun of a teenager's interests to their face would be. Or if they're calling you out for not being good enough at something that's a hobby, imagine them saying that to you while you're showing off your hobby, imagine how terrible they look.

Someone has a hot take about how it's wrong to be attracted to adult women with short heights or flat chests, imagine someone telling that to a guy with a petite girlfriend. Someone tells you that enjoying a story with incest means you support incest, imagine someone telling that to someone reading an ASOIAF book on the train. Someone says you can't enjoy something with a problematic creator, imagine them saying that to someone reading Lovecraft on the train.

Someone has a hot take in activist space that seems really violent or somewhat facisty. Imagine them saying that irl, even with fellow activists. Imagine someone trying to defend Stalin in an actual human conversation, or trying to defend population control for environmentalist reasons.

I know I'm privileged to live in a large city and be pretty socially active, and even I can easily fall into overly online ways of thinking. But remember, even if you can't touch grass, you can imagine how things would be on the grass.

Mental Health Research Study for Rural Teens (Ages 15-18; Enter to win $25)!

Hi there! We're a research team based out of University of Maine's Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology Lab and Fordham University’s Mood & Behaviors Lab conducting a study on risk & resilience related to mental health in adolescents across rural and urban USA.

In order to participate in this study you must: Be 15-18 years old, be comfortable reading and speaking English, and live in a rural community OR an urban community in the United States. We're particularly in need of rural teens to complete our study!

hey you know what makes me afraid for the future? the fact that most people who become police officers from now on definitely saw all the bullshit that we tried to call out and put a stop to and they’ll still become a police officer. They’ll see the discrimination and the brutality and they’ll go ‘i’m fine with that’ and they’ll become a cop. There’s no way you go into this blind. Gen Z Marauders, right? But only the Muggles and other people who grew up in Muggle places act like that. What I'm saying is that the Wizarding world is basically the same with its lack of technology, but here comes all of the Gen z kids walking into Hogwarts.

As soon as the school year starts, all of the Gen z kids are chaotic as f in class. They're reciting every meme known to mankind, moaning out of nowhere, and doing TikTok dances.

And I like to think that a lot of them snuck their stuff in like phones and tablets, and somehow Remus gets them to work.

All of the things mentioned above happen in less than a literal week, and all the Purebloods are traumatized (mostly because they cant even walk down a crowded hallway without Cakecup songs playing on blast, and they mostly don't say anything because who tf wants to mess with a kid who ate Tide Pods for fun?) but also interested in the internet and modern technology. So, here come Remus and Lily showing everyone everything to know about the internet and the Purebloods are in awe because how the fuck can you do that without magic?

(Please can we talk about Gen z marauders more? It's so fucking funny especially if the Wizarding world is the same as it always has been so they're just traumatized by Muggles now.)
