I now feel a little bad about every Owl House fan that I recommended Witch From Mercury to.
Then again the Owl House fanbase is weirdly into the idea of children suffering so maybe they’re thrilled with this.

G Witch Episode 15 thoughts
This was an intrigue heavy episode focusing on the nature of war profiteering and the Earthian conflict. This was a much needed look at differing perspectives beyond Suletta and Miorine.
Tumblr media
We knew from Earth House and Sophie/Norea that the situation on earth is bleak. But this was the first proper glimpse at how much. Constant rationing, unsafe living conditions, lack of medical care; the worst possible situation for these people. And that's not factoring in Spacian warmongering for the sake of profit margins.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And poor Guel is caught in the middle of it all. You have to feel sorry for the guy. Sure, he's a spoiled spacian 'prince' but he also murdered his father and now his family company is about to be bankrupt while he's trapped as collateral. To the earthian's credit, they're trying to keep him alive. Sadly, Guel lacks the will to live after the plant incident.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nika's situation is also dire. Norea is devastated by Sophie's death and has no patience for Nika being a spacian sympathizer. She wails on Nika and chides her for being selfish. Norea has a bit of a point here, much as I like Nika. Attacking a school full of civilians was shitty, but so is the earthian treatment by spacians.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Meanwhile, Shaddiq has an enlightening conversation with his adoptive father. It's revealed what exactly the corporations are doing to make a profit. To my understanding, they're funding wars by selling weapons to the highest bidder. Perhaps funding both sides of massive conflicts if it's profitable. Partitioning implies they divvy up sections of earth to corporations.
I suspected Shaddiq was some flavor of earthian since we know he's an orphan with a lot to prove. Half-earthian is interesting, since it implies he remembers his parents and sees himself relating more to his earthian heritage. He says he wants to break this system, but is that his true goal? The DoF were retaliated against because of his actions. We'll see.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sophie's gravemarker being stuffed animals hurts so much. She was a hero to these kids apparently. UGH! Twisting the knife. We also see the DoF prepping for the Benerit retaliation with these small bits of humanity. A soldier embraces his family as worried civilians watch on. The spacians are looking worse by the moment.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I really liked this subplot for Guel. This girl was about to murder him as revenge for her father dying at Plant Quetta, but when she was crushed by rubble he tries to save her. She even asks him why, and the truth is he doesn't know. He just heard her calling for her dad and could relate to her grief.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But for all his urgency, the child dies in his arms. He sounds shaken and visibly changed from the Guel we once knew. Guel has seen the horrors of earthian oppression first-hand. The only positive is this incident rouses him from depression.. I'm so proud of him. Though, it's still a mystery what he intends to do. Protecting the last he has of his father could mean anything.
**Quick addendum, it's so smart to have Guel go through these trials in particular. Not just because of his privilege , but he was the most entrenched in the dueling games and prized his piloting skill. The school intentionally familiarizes its students with weapons of war, reducing their impact when they begin selling or piloting for real. It's a cyclical horror-- children who become coporporate heads have no idea of the damage they're doing by selling these weapons at the earthian's expense.
Tumblr media
Brief mention to Olcott. I think you're pretty cool. He's apparently a former Dominicus soldier aquianted with Kenanji. Just like Guel with the girl, he empathized with Guel during his captivity, and it's implied he was the reason why the spacians didn't just do away with him. The man is shown to be traumatized himself by the rampant conflict. I'd love to find out more!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This post-credits scene was a doozy. It's painful this is the bulk of Mio's screentime but at least it was interesting. We learn Notrette was a botanical engineer who veered into human bioengineering at some point. We also learn Prospera wasn't lying and QZ was indeed Notrette's vision. Rajan is cagey on the exact details but apparently Delling wants to complete it for his wife's memory. Sorta noble? The Notrette-Elnora/Prospera connection seems very likely now.
Tumblr media
It was lovely of Rajan to say this to her. He wants her to follow her heart and not what would please her parents. Whether Moirine will decide to proceed with Quiet Zero is for another day. i CAN'T BELIEVE IT ENDS HERE ;-;
See you next Suletta Sunday!
Tumblr media
**Addendum, again lol But I forgot to comment on Eri here. She does look older. It seems like she lived for a number of years past Folkvangr, but still died during piloting. A handful of years more at most

finally have time to continue my rewatch and its the bob episode
Tumblr media
this episode really raised my expectations for the show in a way it never delivered so idk that there'll be much to say unless i see random stuff that ended up tying in later
now that the show is over i kinda feel like this episode was unnecessary lol it should have been a half ep if all it was gonna do was push guel back to space. it should have been an episode where the audience is made to sympathize with the plight of earthians more given what was to come and from what we see in the episode itself, but from the posts i saw around the internet between when the episode aired even up until now, a lot of people did not care for the earthian struggle and some even called them stupid. i'm sure that's just a ton of outspoken reactionaries but i wish they could have done more with this plotline
Tumblr media Tumblr media
instead we get this idiot full on stockholm syndroming over his abusive father. guel could have had a clean break from everything. hell, he could have continued being a shitty capitalist but yknow maybe not be a war profiteer.
Tumblr media
anyway, this ep marks our first opening change with eri's silhouette finally revealing her datastorm form
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
i love nika's character but lol i'll always side with norea on this issue. nika's idealism is noble, but it just doesnt work irl. and her saying that dawn of fold is causing suffering is so laughable when spacians and the benerit group are literally foaming at the mouth for profit at each new conflict on earth that they can provide weapons to
Tumblr media
sabina-sama, my beloved
Tumblr media
yea amerikkka sucks, norea, i agree
Tumblr media Tumblr media
lol capitalists are so goddamn stupid
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
the depressing thing about this line is how so many things work like this irl and capitalists don't care that eventually profits will come down to a trickle becuase they'll jump on to the next big thing to get them high profits as quickly as possible
Tumblr media
lol this is so dismissive to the suffering of an entire planet these evil ass people just left to rot
Tumblr media
i didnt remember that they have kenanji in this scene telling rajan what a bad idea it is to send benerit group brownshirts to attack earth. i guess it's supposed to paint him in a better light and make him seem "reasonable" or "moral" or whatever but lol no
Tumblr media
literally everyone pretty much until almost the end of the show
Tumblr media
i wish we'd gotten more interactions with sophie, like a flashback of her on earth with these kids would've been nice
Tumblr media
ok i guess i forgot the fight in this ep is cool, but lmao the prodoros doesnt even have a kit at all!!!!!!! so like what was the point
Tumblr media
damn comrade olcott rules
Tumblr media
oh huh thats kind of interesting. whatever that thing olcott's wearing looks an awful lot like the headpiece suletta and miorine wear in the timeskip to communicate with eri. i'm guessing it's some kind of gund tech since that facilitates the use of his prosthetic arm?
Tumblr media
*secelia voice* kashtanka woof woof
Tumblr media Tumblr media
can the novels please give us more info about this lmao like we're just never going to know why the hell notrette created quiet zero
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i'm really never gonna feel sorry or bad for delling, like ok you were sad your wife died and you were a controllling freak
Tumblr media Tumblr media
ok sure it's finally revealed to us why he came up with this ridiculous holder system but how dumb do you have to be to do this?
i said it in an earlier post as part of my rewatch, things could have gone soooo badly for miorine. guel was physically abusive, how was that leaving your daughter in "safe hands"? someone could have become the holder and literally raped her or something
anyway i hate delling and i'll forever headcanon that even though maybe they're on amicable terms in the end, miorine probably never fully forgave him
ok on rewatch i guess this episode was better than i remembered it being. like standalone, its definitely a good episode imo, but mannnn i really really wish it ended up tying more into the actual plot than it actually did. i just really sympathize with dawn of fold lol and instead they just got kinda brushed off as being pawns of the SAL's big plan to just rearrange who was profiting off weapons sales lol
ok might do ep 16 tonight too, not sure yet

I'm going to spin this off into it's own post, hope you don't mind @incoherent-orca
So generally speaking, yes, other Gundam series do handle more complex themes like war and politics much better than G-Witch did. It's one of the reasons a lot of people found G-Witch to be disappointing.
What really sets G-Witch apart from other Gundam is that ultimately it's not about a war or the politics, a critique on capitalism or even the medical side of GUND: It was a Shakespearian romance and family drama, set in a Gundam universe. It really was just The Tempest in space with a side of Utena.
Which is a shame because in those respects, it actually executed it's themes pretty damn well, with it only getting a little rushed towards the end because they tried too hard to include the rest of the traditional Gundam stuff. Based on the interviews, it was never going to be a large scale conflict, it was never going to be a critique on capitalism or delve deeply into the political and business landscape. It was just supposed to be a love story and the tale of the Mercury and Rembran families, a small part of a larger world.
I don't know if it was executive meddling or just the staff getting a little too lost in the sauce. Probably a little of both. But we know they had tons of ideas for stuff they wanted to include in the show that they ultimately had to cut due to time constraints (mostly school stuff or additional duels). And IMO G-Witch's biggest issue was they tried to keep in a little too much of the traditional Gundam stuff (like all of episode 15) that didn't really matter to that main story, and the main story suffered as a result.
Whether or not that works for someone is going to vary. I personally don't care because when I watched the show I never expected it to or really wanted it to go deep into the Earth/Space conflict or any of the deep political themes, I was just all in on Sulemio and the story it was setting up with Prospera and Quiet Zero. But I know for many, because of how well they cooked on the background elements, and let them seep into the foreground sometimes, it was a disappointment that they ultimately never went into depth with it
All that out of the way, I will say that between the very vocal minority of haters and the (IMO) somewhat overblown criticisms of S2 being rushed, a lot of people have lost sight of the fact that G-Witch WAS positively received. Most people I talk to think it was good at least. It's going to vary depending on which community you're in, but it was overall well received and a massive commercial success. People claiming it was devisive or one of the worst Gundam series are usually arguing in bad faith to downplay the success of the show.

Thank you to everyone who has watched episode 15. From reading the script to standing in front of the mic, it was an absolutely heartbreaking story.
Whether it's hope or despair that awaits in the future, the sun will still rise. [Guel] hasn't stopped moving forward, and I hope you will continue to witness his decisions until the very end.

people want g witch to be centered around men so so bad
Absolutely!
It’s not entirely coming out of nowhere, I mean, yeah, Gundam has historically had an overwhelming majority of male protagonists with a traditionally masculine presentation (Kamille “is a man’s name” Bidan is such a neurotic can of gender worms, Loran’s gender is so cool, and Celestial Being’s Meisters also positively reek of gender, and I mean that in the best of way, but even then, they’re still identified as male characters by a general audience).
But considering the fact that G-Witch has been running for 15 episodes plus a prologue, you’d think that people would have accepted Suletta and Miorine as the main characters, the protagonists of the show. Just because episode 15 had no Suletta doesn’t undo that fact. People are idiots. So many anime fans have fundamentally immature views, even adults. I don’t know if the media literacy of anime fans has been decimated in the past decades or not, but it certainly isn’t what they’re the most famous for.
(IBO was a lot more shounen-y than many of the shows that preceded it and I wonder if this led newer fans to that kind of expectations of having male leads and an overwhelming focus on men as the norm, when this clearly isn’t the story G-Witch is trying to tell).

In my mind G-Witch ends at Episode 15 and they just forgor to release the rest, there's certain things that are super hard to ignore when you re-watch it (which I have):
Why is Nika a focal point of the 1st season finale but she is in a prison room for the entire 2nd season?
Why do we only see Earth like three times in the story
Why is Guel Jeturk given two potential mentors from Dominicus but doesn't remain on Earth despite everything in the narrative pointing toward it (Kenanji, who was the ace pilot that helped kill everyone in the prologue, and Olcott who is a defector that is part of the Fold's militant arm).
Why do characters that seemingly need to have a conversation simply not do that? None of the children talk to their parents at the end of the story even for the ones that are alive. The easy response is that overcoming trauma and conflicts may not require the other party who had a role in creating it, but I don't think that's an apt way to actually answer this question. I think they just had to hand in their homework and top brass refused more seasons.
Why do the Dawn of Fold mostly get shown in a negative light (yes, I realize that they're a front for something else) and the story does nothing to convince the viewer that the Earthian plight is a sympathetic or human one besides the children dying? There's a genuine lack of time spent on Earth as a subject and it leaves this obscure veil over the entire subject
The lack of observed "conflict" throughout the story is a fine concession compared to the average Gundam series, but it also carries the caveat that it doesn't really work if 3/4 of the show is non-lethal combat scenarios because for that narrative choice to be more effective, they need to show how violent the conflicts on Earth are besides showing it briefly a couple of times.
Why is Earth House not even a thing in the 2nd season, like they are there and they talk, but they have no material role in the story besides Martin and Nika making amends. I think this part wouldn't annoy me half as much if every Earthian besides them wasn't literally a terrorist within the narrative and not even in like a Zeta Gundam kind of way.
Overall Earth got completely shafted which is the central gripe most people will have with the political side of the story, everything got hand-waved, and the plight of those struggling with the proxy wars on Earth is barely shown. Everyone waxes on about the state of Earth and how things are going but nothing substantive is explored with it in a way that matters in the grand scheme of things.
Why does Prospera not even give a shit that Kenanji is there like, I know you can spin this a certain way but it's genuinely hilarious...?
I can think of more, but I like G-Witch but the political side of the story is genuinely less interesting than IBO and folks that know me know I don't even like IBO. When it comes to character writing and emotional storytelling it's some peak, but it's very bad as military sci-fi specifically because its commentary on Warfare isn't bad b/c of space magic, it's bad because nothing actually happens, and the central political tension is literally handwaved in the finale. Having the warfare sit in abstraction for the entire duration of the story with the exception of the final arc of the first season and jumping in and out of our periphery in the 2nd ultimately makes the commentary it has on the warfare of the story feel like an ivory tower take on conflict because the characters for the most part can put aside the fact that war on earth exists despite the dialogue. I still think it's good, but it carries the weight of expectations it can't reasonably meet due to its duration, honestly Earth would have to just be cut out for this story not to disappoint half as much wrt it.
I think the thing that frustratse me the most, is that they give Prospera Full Frontal's scene from Gundam Unicorn but it's actually different because of how it unfolds in the ending. The thing is like ,it's actually good to give her that, but it still lacks the substance required for it to be an effective and cathartic resolution for her character since they do it during a period of time where the viewer that actually cares about the backdrop of the world w/ a lot of unanswered questions.
I'd still give the experience of watching it like a 9 in all fairness, but once you reealise the space politics are actually undercooked severely, it's more like a 7.5 at best for me, I think the emotional character writing and happy endings for the characters were enjoyable to see I just think the space-politics side of the story was very undercooked. While it's tempting to theorize as to why they weren't given more episodes during its run, according to the production announcement around October '22 they knew that it was 25 episodes about the entire time the show had begun airing, so the gaps in our knowledge aren't the product of sabotage, but necessary sacrifices to even get a legible story out the door. It's more accurate to say that the decision to continue the AU was not given despite the immense success during its airing - I believed it would get more episodes as IBO did, but one of those shows 1st halves ended on a cliffhanger and the other did not :/
The easiest way to phrase this is that it's a good show if you can put aside that it should have a stronger political side (within the context of its own world) and it's not even unreasonable to expect given the moving parts of the show starting from the prologue - but yeah, too little to say everything it needs to, so it just remains a good romance story but a pretty undercooked Gundam, which is nothing new for the series.
I'd liken it to FFXV is good if it's your first FF game it's good as hell if this is where you start, but a holistic look at it would make it feel bad if you've watched other Gundam series. And trust me, there are a LOT of undercooked and bad Gundam endings, it's not unique to this series. GSD and IBO are some ones I will never even bother defending, but I appreciate the genuine effort into the construction of this show it's just a shame it's not 50 episodes.
tl;dr - the first mainline gundam besides g-reco having less than 50 episodes results in a good story and world that has borderline nothing to say about some of its more glaring conflicts, the social side of things is interesting, the political side is completely uncooked.

The gap between early G-witch highschool bully Guel Jeturk and current G-witch “I have been humbled, lost my company, seen the horrors of war, witnessed child death and killed my own dad” Guel Jeturk borders on the absurd like this is what 15 episodes of nothing but getting kicked in the dick does to you as a person

Since I'm a deeply unserious person, and there's been a lot of discourse about how much time and attention different characters have been getting in the 2nd half of G Witch, so while rewatching the show in preparation for the final episode I decided to time how long Miorine appears for in each episode of the show.
Now to be clear, it's not measuring the exact seconds that Miorine appears on screen for, I've measured the lengths of scenes that she is in. So, for instance, if Miorine is off-screen but another character is talking to her, I've still counted that in the timer. Also, since this is just me pressing the start and stop button on my phone's timer these numbers are pretty rough but should still give a fair approximation of how big of a factor Miorine is in a given episode.
Tumblr media
Just to be clear this data of course is incomplete, not just because we still have one last episode to come, but also because this kind of stuff is better understood in comparison to other characters on the show. Like, it's entirely possible that most of the major characters in Cour 1 experienced a similar contraction of time from Cour 1 to Cour 2 when the show had more plotlines to juggle.
But that being said, yeah as a Miorine fan these numbers annoy me. With one episode left to go, Miorine has 25 less minutes' worth of scenes in Cour 1 compared to Cour 2, and even if with a big role in the final episode in the best-case scenario it probably ends up closer to 15 minutes less, which is a huge chunk of screentime in a show with 22-minute episodes.
Like the fact that she didn't appear at all in Episode 20 after the previous Episode ended on a very significant cliffhanger for her character is probably the most annoying part. And like, I'm very much aware of the fact that there was a lot going on in Episode 20 and cuts needed to be made somewhere, but Miorine is the deuteragonist of this show and is one of the characters that shouldn't be making way for screentime for secondary characters the way she has. Like, seriously they never even show her leaving Earth or processing what just happened. That all happens off-screen and she's just back with the Benerit Group for her like, one scene in Episode 21.

⭐ Name: Sandra, but you can tell me Sandy 😉.
⭐Age: I feel like I'm 15 years old, I stopped counting at 19 and my friends say that I act like I'm 5 years old XD hahaha ... Nah! I just turned 23 years old this August n_n.
💔 Occupation: Being a universitary girl XD ... Yes! It's so fun! (sarcasm).
🩷 Some things that I love it: Read (I read all kinds of books and about my favorite ships on Ao3! 🤭), cook desserts, listen to music while I do other activities like my homework or when I read, Greek mythology (The love between us will never die! 💗).
⭐Saint Seiya (or Knights of the Zodiac). I found this beautiful serie when I was 7 years old. My favorite is the original serie, although I also like the Lost Canvas a lot and Episode G (because Aioria is the protagonist). Soul of Gold gives me mixed feelings. From Omega and Next Dimension, better don't ask me; my mind lives in denial. My favorite characters are the Golden Saints, especially Aioros and Aioria, being Aioria my super favorite.
Thanks to Saint Seiya I developed a great love for the stars 💫 and I have many scientific books on the subject, as well as books of myths and legends about the constellations ✨.
💥 I'm a Marvel Girl. I love those tormented superheroes and antiheroes. I basically grew up watching Marvel since Iron Man came out in 2008 and I immersed myself fully in the world of the comics, I have a lot of comics and books on my bookshelf 🤭. My favorites are: Iron Man ♥️, Captain America, Spider-Man, Loki, the X-Men, Black Widow and Scarlet Witch, in all their presentations and with all their charms and defects!.
🍿Series: Friends, Full House, The big bang theory, How I met your mother and How I met your father, Modern Family, Mom, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel... I love it K-Dramas like Goblin: The lonely and great God, Crash landing on you, Tale of the Nine Tailed 😋, I have also watched many animes like Sailor Moon, Ouran High School Host Club, Toradora, Code Geass, Inuyasha, Kaleido Star, Shaman King, Attack on Titan... it's a long list and I don't remember everything at this moment 🤔. Miraculous Ladybug (I know it's for kids, but ... there is Chat Noir 🖤).
🐉In my House of the Dragon era 🖤: Like many people, I was also terribly disappointed with the horrible ending of Game of Thrones, but I really loved Fire and Blood when I read it in 2020... so I decided to give the serie a chance when I saw the first trailer... and I don't regret it! 🥳. I liked Daemon and Rhaenyra so much in the book and absolutely loved them in the TV Show! (Matt and Emma are incredible! ❣️). Another character that I loved in the book and the one I always wanted to know more about was Jacaerys Velaryon and I must say that I am very pleased with the choice of Harry Collett 😍 (oh yeah baby! 🔥).
I really hope that the directors and writers do justice to this wonderful crown prince! 🥰, because for me he is already one of my favorite characters of all time! ❣️.
🎥 Favorite Movies: Troy 2004 (did I mention I'm a Greek mythology lover?), the Star Wars saga 💫 (1-6 only), The Great Gatsby, A Walk to Remember, Harry Potter 🪄 (books and movies), The Lord of the Rings trilogy and the Hobbit trilogy, The Hunger Games saga ❣️(books and movies), The Twilight saga 😊 (books and movies).
I love Studio Ghibli movies with all my heart 💗 since my dad bought me the movie of Kiki Delivery Service when I was a 6-year-old little girl.
I love everything Disney and Pixar does 💗😘. (think of the happiest things, It's the same as having wings! 🎶)
🎧 Music: I have a very varied taste in music, some would say strange 😅, but if I like the rhythm and lyrics of the song I will surely add it to my playlist (mainly I like rock), AC / DC, Queen, Guns N' Roses, Bon Jovi, Linkin Park, Evanescence, Within Temptation, Imagine Dragons, Beyoncé, Ed Sheeran, Lana del Rey, Taylor Swift and Katy Perry. I enjoy classical music too 🩷.
⭐ Something more about me: I am an inveterate dreamer and extremely perfectionist. I express myself better by writing than talking 😚.
I haven't drawn anything in almost 5 years and when I did I used to draw with traditional media (watercolor, charcoal, colored pencils, gouche and acrylic paints 🖌️).
But since October (from last year), when I saw Harry Collett as Prince Jacaerys, I felt a desire to draw that I hadn't felt in a long time ❣️.
This is my first time trying to draw in digital media, I hope you like what you see! 😘 (YouTube tutorials don't fail me now! 😭). I spent the whole summer practicing🥺.
Tumblr media
P.S: Sorry if exist some error, the english is not my firts lenguage.

So how are you feeling about G-Witch's portrayal of Earthians now, after Episode 15?
I almost used this analogy in my previous post, but this show is like watching a story about how awful the US invasion of Afghanistan was by trying to play up the fucking Taliban as sympathetic. The Earthian terrorists embedded themselves with civilians to use as meat shields, initiate a firefight, and then get butthurt when their ablative refugees get caught in the crossfire?
I think everyone in Dawn of Fold should be shot
