I have a theory about what happened to every set of ruins in minecraft.

what if the ocean monuments were early people, still part fish and there used to be huge cities but the strongest only survived the thousands of years.

what if the end fortresses were trying to escape the zombie pleauge and ended up in the end.

what if the end cities were those same people, for generations until the ender virus started turning them all into eternally living endermen.

what if the survivors of that second virus built the ancient cities, knowing the warden and its fury and keeping quiet while building yet another portal.

What if that portal led to hell it self and the people started to mutate into piglins, building more ruins and continuing to live in them.

And whoever is left built the destert and forest temples, their descendants being villagers who act like they know nothing.

but just a thought.
