just so we're on the same page here, saying "i think buck and tommy are cute, even if they won't last bc buddie endgame" or "i believe in buddie endgame, but bucktommy is cute in the meantime" is backhanded and not the positive support you think it sounds like.
you can find them cute without having to bring up the other ship, and im genuinely sorry that you feel you need to justify it to be accepted in this fandom.

Alright, so I've been a fan of Shane, Ryan and even Steven since their buzzfeed days and I've been watching this whole thing with Watcher moving their content over to their own streaming service debacle.
Like most ppl, I think it's a poor business move to alienate your fans like this, but I've been thinking on it more from maybe a financial perspective. I'm wondering how many people actually signed up for it. I saw a tiktok advertising expert say that the conversion rate for ads--meaning the number of ppl to actually buy something when they see an ad is about 1-5%. Like, right now they have about 2.8 million subscribers. And even though they've lost about 50K since and counting, they probably anticipated some loss. I'm sure they've mathed that if they just get at least like 100K conservatively out of their nearly 3 million fanbase to sign up, they'd be able to make $600K a month from their streaming service at six bucks a pop each month.
Maybe that's worth it? I'm not exactly sure how much they were making before. Ppl say they had 11K subscribers on patreon before but that's just their member total. Actual paid members was about 5K. But despite the controversy, their patreon member count has actually gone up. Today it sits at 12K members total with nearly 6K members paying. So they're making at least $30K-70K+ a month currently on patreon based on their offered tiers. not sure how much they were making on ad revenue alone or sponsors cuz I'm not sure how that stuff works on youtube. But maybe by their own accounting they think the loss of followers was worth it if they can hang on to that small, loyal but paying minority.
Another youtuber has pointed out that if you have a sponsor for a video and it's a one off, it can pay more. Up to $35K. So if that is the peak and they release 1 video a week, so 4 a month would be like 140K a month on sponsor money. And youtube pays about $10 per 1000 views a video, and they average 1 mil each video. So about $40K a month on views. So we can guess that they made about $180K a month currently on youtube (patreon and merch sales not included).
Honestly, if they can reach the goal of 1-5% of their subscribers converting to their streaming platform, yeah they probably would make more money in the long run. IF they can somehow manage to retain as well as grow those number of subscribers on their new platform. And don't forget, they don't plan to delete their current videos on their youtube channel so they'll still be earning revenue from those videos. We'll have to see I guess given how much goodwill they've lost with their audience.
Tbh, I am all for them trying to get paid more for their work but I also think they could have transitioned much differently, like only putting some exclusive content on their own platform while also posting free shows to youtube. Or maybe delaying releases for a week or a month for youtubers. or cutting back your production costs if it's really killing you cuz everyone has pointed out they liked the ghoul boys when it was just a black screen with text scrolling by saying "wheeze." Only time will tell if this move paid off for them.
But I'm not super knowledgeable on how the entire youtube thing works so if someone has some insight, feel free to weigh in.

i’ve surpassed 450 hours with stardew valley on my steam profile and i’m realizing this might be one of the best video games of all time from the standpoint of being a product. this game is $15 on steam, even now that MOUNTAINS of content have been added in free updates. the game is extremely high quality; the gameplay is polished, it’s super well designed, the visuals are gorgeous, the music is incredible, the writing is good, etc. there’s enough content in here that you can sink hours and hours into a single farm. there are so many different ways you can customize your experience; different farm types, many different marriage candidates, the community center vs. joja route, all this and more give reasons to play multiple different farms if you’re so inclined. and on top of ALL that, if you’re playing on PC, the modding scene is extensive and there are content mods that are so hefty (and quality) they could be paid dlc that you can get for free.
it’s staggering. when i got this game in 2017, i was 15 years old with not a lot of money, and the game had significantly less content than it does now (plus i only played vanilla then) and it was STILL an absolute steal for its price. obviously this game is not going to be for everybody, but i still think stardew valley might be one of the best values in all of gaming from a consumer standpoint. anybody who thinks they might be into this game owes it to themself to give it a try, there’s not much to lose and so much to potential gain here.

actually so pissed at ppl on twitter and tiktok for acting like 911 is suddenly queer because buck is now canonically bi. it's been queer since 2018 in season one episode one!!! look no farther than henrietta motherfucking wilson!!!! i need to see everyone putting more respect on her name because that is in short supply. not to mention micheal!!! he's been gay since the start and ALSO figured it out later in life but he's thriving!!! it's been there the entire time but noooo they need a white man to consider it representation because they don't care about poc queers. especially if the only recurring queer characters are black women and black men. get real.

New England Clam Chowder for the Broke Tumblr User
@damnbluewires
Tumblr media
What you'll need (cooking implements)
-A very, very large pot -Cutting board -Knife that can cut vegetables -A couple of bowls to store pre-chopped things in if you don't want to be chopping vegetables at light speed -A spoon to stir the chowder while it cooks -A bowl to serve yourself the soup out of
What you'll need (ingredients): -1 quart (32 oz) heavy cream (~$5 at walmart) -Red or russet potatoes (~3-4 lb, $3-4 at walmart) -Clam juice (8 oz) ($2.50 at walmart) -Canned clams (13 oz, 2 cans) ($4.50 at walmart) -Worcestershire sauce (to taste) (Preferably not Great Value, so ~$2 at walmart. If you go with Great Value, $1) -White onion (2) (about $2.50 at walmart) -Flour (a couple teaspoons for thickening) (2lb bag is ~1.50 at walmart) -Garlic (2 bulbs, or less if you don't like it that much) ($1.50 at walmart) -Black pepper (One container is $2 at walmart) -Water (Pennies on the dollar)
Optional, but goes over the $25 budget: Butter (a tablespoon or so, about $4 for 4 sticks.)
Recipe:
Mince the garlic. Put it in a bowl.
Chop the onions and potatoes to roughly cubic inch-sized pieces. Put those in separate bowls.
Put the pot on the stove, set to low heat.
Place EITHER: 1 TBSP butter OR 1.5 TBSP heavy cream into the pot. Stir to prevent burning. (You can eyeball this amount.)
Add an equal amount of flour to the pot. Continue stirring until it has completely mixed with the butter or heavy cream and has begun to brown a tiny bit.
Add the onions, the garlic, and the clam juice to the pot. Add heavy cream and water in equal parts until the onions are covered. Continue stirring until the onions soften such that they can be cut with a fork.
Add the potatoes to the pot. Add the rest of the heavy cream here, if any remains; add water until the potatoes are covered if none remains. Stir for about 5 minutes.
Rinse off the clams and add them to the pot. Simmer for about 10 minutes; add Worcestershire sauce and pepper to taste at this point. (I usually use around a tablespoon of the former and who knows how much of the latter). If you have any other spices on hand that you think would work, you can add them here.
Simmer until the potatoes are soft enough to cut with your cooking spoon.
Serve (with more pepper if you like.) This should make about 7-8 bowls that are filling enough to be an entire dinner if you eat around 2000 kcal/day. If you have some extra money, you can either serve with oyster crackers or toasted bread. Due to the overall richness of the dish, it's best served in the colder months; it is also best stored in the fridge (rather than the freezer). Ideally, the result should be a slightly tangy, creamy, and vaguely clam-flavored soup, with a hearty body.
Total time (prep+cooking) is usually around 1.5-2 hours. Potatoes are finicky, as is cream. If you'd like to add other things to your soup and have some extra cash, options include green onion, bacon, or diced carrots. None are really necessary for the dish, though.
I have not tried making this as a vegetarian dish, but mushrooms should have a fairly similar texture to clams; the clam juice can theoretically be replaced with water (or vinegar.) Worcestershire sauce can be replaced with balsamic vinegar in that case.

Bucky : *Singing "Blue Skies" out of tune*
Veal : I just wanted one evening in peace. ONE.
Kidd : *watches Buck*
Kidd : This is all your fault.
Buck : *Tries to hide his fondness but still watches heart-eyed as Bucky serenades him, still out of tune*
Kidd, exasperated : Really ? This is what gets you going ?
Kidd : My disappointment is endless and my faith in humanity is in hell.
