in the middle of the night, in my dreams (you should see the things we do)
3k | Explicit | Buddie | Read on AO3
For @loveyouanyway in exchange of proof of donation for Sudan Relief, you're awesome king <33
Summary:
Buck’s lips were a lot softer than what he was expecting. Not that Eddie had been expecting to actually find out exactly how soft his best friend’s lips were, it just sort of happened. Eddie was trying to think hard about how they had even gotten here, but it was all a little fuzzy. One moment they were in the living room playing video games, and the next, Eddie was being pressed into the bed by Buck’s body and his lips were pressed against Eddie’s. Eddie tried really hard to remember how they ended up there, but soon enough Buck was pressing his hips into Eddie’s, their hard cocks rubbing together, and all thoughts about trying to figure out what had happened went flying out of his head. He just wanted Buck, he didn’t care how, he just wanted him. * Or, Eddie starts having sex dreams about Buck and it changes everything between them.

stuck now so long, we just got the start wrong
aka rival firefighters 🚒 | buddie | chapter 7/10 | Explicit
Shifting in his seat, Buck taps nervously on the table, drawing Eddie’s attention.
“So uh, Rosalie said when mom gets here.” Buck points out. “Is- is Shannon coming?”
Eddie sits back in his chair and nods. “She is. We meet up at least twice a month as a family for breakfast.” He bites his lip nervously before asking. “Is that okay?”
“Is that okay? Eddie, I’m the one who should be asking if it’s okay for me to be here. This really seems like a family thing and I can head home or- or wait in the car if –”
“Buck.” Eddie cuts him off before his rambling can descend into a full spiral. “We wouldn’t have invited you if we didn’t want you here.”
His brown eyes are open and honest, and Buck could almost cry over the fact that both Chris and Eddie still want him around after all this time. Most people get tired of him and move on. Apparently not the Diaz’s.
Not yet anyway.
Buck silently tells his brain to shut up.
“Besides, it means you’ll finally get to meet Shannon.”
“Can’t believe we’ve known each other for two years, and I haven’t met her yet.” Buck leans across the table towards Eddie and whispers conspiratorially. “It might make one think that you’ve been trying to avoid us meeting.”
“Okay first of all,” Eddie points an accusatory finger at Buck, “the first year we knew each other, we weren’t exactly friends.”
“And secondly?”
Eddie drops his hand and slumps back in his seat. “I honestly don’t know how you two haven’t met yet.”

Quiet
Rating: G
Fandom: 9-1-1
Pairing: (pre-relationship) Evan Buckley/Eddie Diaz
Summary: Christopher leaves, and everything is endless quiet.
Notes: angst with a hopeful ending, hurt/comfort, 911 spoilers, canon compliant to 7x10, episode coda, Buckley Diaz family, pre-relationship buddie
Ao3 Link
It's late when his phone rings. The screen displaying Eddie's name and a photo of a smile Buck feels like he barely remembers.
A desperate pain squeezes at his chest, and Buck thinks he might die for the return of that smile, even though he knows he'll never be able to bring it back on his own.
He answers. Stays quiet for long moments. Then, “Eddie?" he murmurs, and it's a careful plea. One full of misguided hope that it might be something good for once. Knows that’s wishful thinking.
Eddie doesn't answer. Long moments pass with nothing but the sound of his breathing to keep Buck company in the cold of his empty bed.
“It's quiet.”
Eddie's voice finally breaks the silence. It's barely a whisper, but it's broken in ways that slice open every old wound Buck had thought was beginning to heal, and suddenly he's flashing back to Christopher’s cries for help and to the ruined walls of Eddie's bedroom and to the way he'd thought, for too many fearful moments, that he'd find a body instead of the broken gaze of his best friend.
“Eddie?” He asks, a careful, quiet thing of his own. All his vulnerability betraying him as he begs for Eddie to be okay, even when he knows better.
“It's quiet like—like the middle of the night, when he's fast asleep. Except—” Buck hears the break in Eddie's voice, the way the pain he'd been trying to hold back had flooded all at once, leaving his voice so choked it's near unrecognizable, “—except he's just not here.”
Buck swallows hard against the emotion that threatens to spill over in his own voice, tosses the blankets off himself and finds his feet in one smooth motion he's not sure how he manages with the shake of his hands. “Eddie, I'm coming over,” he chokes out with the kind of conviction only Buck can manage through the tears that threaten.
“No,” Eddie begs on the other end of the line. And it's a harsh and broken thing—wet with tears but hard with anger Eddie's trying to use to mask it. “No. I told you, I don't want you here."
Buck has to bite his lip to keep the whimper of pain from dripping out around his own conviction. Holds his breath until it clears and then hangs up the phone without another word. It feels cruel, to cut Eddie off like that, but he won't argue.
He'll break down the goddamn door again if he has to.
The moment he's in the car, he finds himself taking a deep breath, hands gripping too tight to the wheel as he debates his next move.
He knows he should go. Or maybe stay.
But either way, he knows he needs to make a decision and he knows that decision will always be to go to Eddie.
But there's one more thing he needs to try before he can.
He's calling Christopher before he's even processed the thought. It's late, and he shouldn't, but the line is ringing before he can manage to stop himself, and then Christopher's picking up, sounding somewhere between groggy and irritated, and Buck knows he shouldn't have called. Still can't bring himself to regret it.
“Is everyone alive?” Christopher asks first, through a yawn, and he's trying to hide it, but Buck can hear the legitimate worry there, and a pang of guilt hits him as he cringes in response.
“Yeah! Yeah, bud, of course everyone's alive,” he promises, all false cheer and forced smiles he hopes makes his tone sound just a little more convincing.
Christopher sighs, and Buck can hear him shuffling around a bit. Thinks maybe he's sitting up for what he's worried is going to be an argument. “Then why are you calling, Buck?”
And, okay, that tone cuts deeper than anything Buck's heard from Christopher in the past. He finds himself fiddling idly with his car keys, trying to keep his hands busy as he tries to choose his next words carefully.
He's quiet so long, Christopher has to reset him with an irritated “Buck.”
“Right, uh,” Buck begins, squeezing his eyes shut and scrubbing a hand over his face. “Buddy, your dad's not doing well.”
“No."
“Christopher,” Buck pleads, voice betraying all his frustration and pain because he understands, he does—he knows why Chris is angry and why he's not ready to talk. But he also knows how much Eddie is hurting and how little of it had actually been Eddie's fault. And it doesn't change the hurt it caused, but Buck needs Christopher and Eddie to be okay, and right now, he's not sure Eddie's going to be. “Look, I know you don't want to talk to him. And I know it's unfair of me to ask. But Christopher, he needs to at least hear from you. Just. you don't even have to call. Just—just text him. Tell him you love him.”
“Buck—"
“Please, Chris.”
Christopher's silent for long moments. They stretch through the darkness. So long Buck thinks he's hung up the phone. In the end, though, a tiny voice breaks the silence—one full of a softness Buck hasn't heard in far too long. “Are you with him?”
Buck sucks in a shaky breath. Guilt flooding him at the question. “I'm going to him now.”
Buck thinks he hears Christopher breathe a sigh of relief. “Okay,” he says, sure in a way Buck knows neither of them feel. “Stay with him?”
Buck swallows hard. Fights back the tears. “Until you come home,” he promises.
And he means every word.
It's quiet for long moments again. Buck swears he can hear Christopher thinking. “I do still love him, you know,” Christopher promises. And there's that guilt that just keeps circling between the three of them.
Buck feels a sad smile tilt his lips. “I know you do, Chris. He knows, too. But I think he needs to hear it right now. From you.”
Quiet again. Buck thinks for a moment he's pushed too hard.
“I gotta go,” Christopher says, then. Sad, but sure, and Buck feels like his heart has been crushed. “Bye, Buck.”
“Bye, bud,” Buck chokes out. He thinks Christopher's already gone before he says it.
Tears cling to the corners of his eyes as he wills himself not to let them fall. Doesn't want to put anymore hurt on Eddie when he gets there. Tries to prepare himself for all the pain he knows he'll always take on to support the weight of Eddie's own because he knows he can't add to it now.
So with a heavy heart and a little extra hurt, Buck turns the key in the Jeep's ignition, buckles himself in, and wipes harshly at the tears blurring his eyes.
Eddie needs him, and he won't wait another moment.
Before he can go, though, his phone dings with a text message, and when he checks it, it's Christopher.
Tell dad I love him.
When Buck sees it, a harsh breath of relief catches in his throat, and a couple of stray tears manage to sneak out the corners of his eyes as he huffs a laugh devoid of any real humor.
Still, there's relief there. A huge, heavy weight lifting just the slightest as he snaps a screenshot and sends it to Eddie with a message that reads I'll be home in 20. Leave the door unlocked.
And then he waits.
Stares at the phone in his hand, even when he knows he should already be on his way. But he doesn't have to wait long.
It's only seconds before the word okay comes through, bright as daylight. An invitation and a surrender Buck won't take for granted.
Instead, he swallows the sob that threatens to choke him and points himself in the direction of home.

The Last of the Tea is Gone
This started life as a title prompt from ask game sent to me by @madambeetrootn who I can not tag sadly. They liked it, I liked it so I’ve spruced it up and here it is for a bit of light fluff before 7x10 breaks our heart.
If there’s one thing that Eddie does not like it’s doing the grocery shop, regardless of his feelings though he’ll do a good job, a thorough job and that means making a list. So it’s time to look through the cupboards and check what they need.
The second cupboard door he opens generates a frustrated growl. Reaching up with clenched teeth, he shakes his head, how many times does he have to tell him? Again! This is sadly not the first time he’s found an empty box of teabags sitting on the shelf.
It’s Buck’s tea, the one that he drinks whenever he’s round. Disgusting stuff but for some reason he loves it.
Sighing the sigh of the long suffering Eddie grabs hold of the offending cardboard, why can’t that man ever put an empty box or bottle in the recycling. It’s not that hard. Eddie manages it every day. Even Chris half the time but Buck not so much.
The moment freezes as Eddie looks at his hand holding the vanished tea and a thought blazes through his mind bright and intense and overwhelming.
Buck keeps his tea here, the thought shifts and changes, no …he keeps Buck’s tea here, for him. He remembers buying the last box clearly. Buck wasn’t even with him that day, he was grocery shopping on his own, and why is Buck even with him sometimes when he does the grocery shopping anyway?
After that question others flood his mind.
Why does he buy Buck’s tea? Why does it run out so often?
What does it mean?
He knows, oh god he knows… finally he sees it.
Eddie stays frozen to the spot, staring at the small cardboard cartoon that’s caused him to have an existential crisis in his own kitchen.
Footsteps and a voice finally shake him.
“What’s wrong?” Buck sounds worried. Eddie supposes he probably does make an unusual picture right now. Staring at an empty box. He looks up and finds blue eyes and a frown close by.
“The last of the tea is gone.”
Perfectly clear from his point of view but not so much from Buck’s
“The last of the tea is gone?,” The sentence is repeated with concern and a deepening frown. “And that’s …. a bad thing? You don’t even drink my tea, why are you so upset about it?”
“It doesn’t last very long.”
Another random comment from Eddie at least as far as Buck is concerned but the words mean everything to Eddie.
Buck steps closer, a hand tentatively reaching out to support his best friend through his unexpectedly complicated feelings about tea. He speaks slowly.
“No… that’s ‘cos I drink it. That’s what you do with tea…Eddie are you ok.?”
He’s a man of action always had been so now he knows, well there’s really no option but to do something with the information. He answers his best friend, the man who’s ended up so much more important to him than he could ever have imagined on the day they met. The man he buys tea for and the man who drinks it in his home so often it barely lasts.
“Not really.” Eddie looks at Buck and wonders if he can see what’s coming. “Well maybe …I guess it depends on if you’re in love with me because I just worked out I’m in love with you.”
Buck laughs, a brief surprised bark of humor and then his grin lights up the kitchen.
“Really? That’s what finally did it? An empty box of tea?
Eddie smiles back, how could he not when he has this.
“Apparently. So… are you?”
Eddie doesn’t get an answer but he does get a kiss and that kiss tastes like Buck’s stupid tea, which is isn’t so bad after all.
Maybe he’ll get two boxes next time.

buddie ficlet set after s7
"What about uh, Tommy?" Eddie asked, keeping his eyes down so he wouldn't see Buck's smile. "You could go with him." "Oh." Something in Buck's voice changed. "We broke up." Eddie's head snapped up so fast he almost got whiplash. He was reminded vividly of standing in this very room and finding out that Buck and Natalia had broken up – he felt a familiar thrill of excitement. "How come?" he asked. Buck pulled a face and it was his turn to look away. "He uh, wanted me to call him 'daddy'." A grunt of disgust spilled from Eddie's mouth before he could stop it. "I know," Buck said with a wry smile. "Anyway. Saturday? You and me?" Feeling much lighter than he had when he'd arrived, Eddie smiled and nodded. "You and me."

The One Where They Don't Know We Know
T | 4.5k | Chap 2/2
Part 9 of the Friends AU series!
read the last chapter on AO3 | start from the beginning
"He... asked me to come to his place tonight," Ravi said, looking up at him. "Like, come to his place tonight."
"He what?" Chim said, voice rising an octave.
"He told me to come over for wine and see where things go," he said, eyes wide.
Chim scoffed as his mouth dropped open and he shook his head.
"I can't believe he would do that to Ed..." his expression shifted, and he took pause. "Wait a minute..."
He turned around to where Hen was vigorously drying a plate and avoiding looking up at him. She didn't even acknowledge him or the silence as she put it on the stack and reached for the next one.
"Hen," he said, slow and accusatory.
She was still avoiding looking up, giving the smallest shake of her head as he narrowed his eyes, and Ravi just looked between them.
"Henrietta," he said, and finally she gave a sigh and looked up. "Do they know that we know?"

Well, at least season 7 and that lackluster finale episode have instilled me with ideas and renewed energy to start writing fan fiction again.
I have a great AU Buddie idea based on an existing movie. I just needed something to lift my spirits. Some Buddie that has nothing to do with the canon mess they're in right now.
I'm not going to give away the movie or details, because I've only just started planning it out. But maybe I'll drop a few sentences here and there when I've started writing. It will probably have quite a couple of chapters. Not sure how many yet.
I'm actually excited over this. Finally some inspiration to write again. Let the hiatus be filled with writing and reading fanfiction, so we can forget about that finale and start looking forward to season 8.

“You’re asking Buck to marry you?!”
Eddie held back his groan in the interest of not waking up the sleeping toddler, "Yes, but Chim, this has gotta stay a secret! Can you do that?"
Chim nodded, "Yeah, yeah, totally!" And Eddie let out a relieved breath only for Chim to add, "Just one thing though."
"What?" Eddie asked.
Chim sucked in a breath, "I can't keep a secret Eddie, you know this, you both know this. The second I find a willing and captive audience I will sing like a canary!”
…………………..
Or 5 times something goes wrong with the buddie proposal +1 time it goes just right.
This is my first prompt fill for the 911Gotcha4Gaza event being done by @911actions if any of you are looking for a specific art/edit/fic prompt to be filled then you should check out the event! It runs through June 17th.

Summary:
Eddie rests the back of his hand on Buck's forehead, Buck's eyes fluttering as a sigh leaves his lips, and feels the skin beneath his hand, his brows gathering even more. "You're warm. Are you sure you're okay? Is it just nausea?"
It's almost like Buck was expecting him to ask this, because he loosely wraps his arm around his torso to brace it, and lets out a shaky breath, turning his head to Eddie and whispering so small, his eyes glassy and wide: "I don't feel good."
That's all Eddie needs to hear.
His face softens and he gets closer to the other man, chest almost plastered to Buck's bicep, and places his hand on the small of Buck's back. "What's wrong, baby?"
Buck hesitates. "It hurts."

Coming Home
“Eddie.” Buck’s hand on his shoulder is a comfort. It’s also the only thing holding him together. 7x10 Coda and fix it.
“Eddie.”
Buck’s hand on his shoulder is a comfort.
It’s also the only thing holding him together.
His best friend hasn’t said a word for a while now, and they’ve been standing here for- well, Eddie wasn’t sure how long they’ve been standing here. If he moves, if he looks at Buck and sees the devastation he’s feeling mirrored in those blue eyes, Eddie is sure he’ll shatter, and nothing will put him back together except having Christopher back in his arms.
“Eddie,” Buck says, softer now.
Just one more second, he thinks desperately. He’s deluding himself into believing Christopher will change his mind; that in five minutes, the door will open and his son will be walking through it.
“Eddie, look at me.”
He shakes his head, doesn’t so much as blink. “Not yet.”
The grip on his shoulder tightens for a second, then, before he can understand what’s happening, he’s being turned around and pulled into Buck’s arms.

“I miss him.” Buck admits, although it’s not a secret. His voice is breaking and he leans against Eddie’s chest when he starts to sob.
“I know, I miss him too,” he says and is now full on embracing Buck, his hands are moving through his hair and it feels good, it feels right.

It's been four weeks since everything fell to pieces. Four weeks since Chris left, almost as long since work became a nightmare. Four weeks since Eddie started withdrawing from Buck. And Buck…has had enough. If he needs to take out the trash (both metaphorically and literally) to makes things right, he will. . [Post-7x10 fix-it, because fuck that finale]

For the prompts: “did you eat today?”
-❤️🪐
bestIEEEEEEEEE omg I had no idea this fic was gonna turn out like this but I LOVE IT so THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE PROMPT!!!! I really hope you like it too 🥰
did you eat today?
At the sound of a door opening and closing, Eddie stretched and rubbed at his eyes. He must've fallen asleep on the couch without realising it, as the room had grown dark around him. Pushing himself up, he turned around to see Buck toeing off his shoes beside the door.
"Hey," Buck said softly, smiling at him. "I just wanted to make sure you two were doing okay."
"Thanks," Eddie murmured, something warm unfurling in his chest.
Raising an eyebrow questioningly, Buck gestured at the light switch. Eddie nodded and Buck flicked it on.
"How's Chris?" Buck asked.
With a start, Eddie tensed and looked down the hallway. "I think he's okay, but I haven't checked on him in a while. I fell asleep," he explained, taking a step in the direction of his son's room.
But then Buck's hand was on his shoulder, holding him back.
"I'll check on him," Buck said, his head tilting to one side as he studied Eddie's face. "You look like you could use a break. Did you eat today?"
What a stupid question, Eddie thought to himself, a moment before realising he couldn't actually remember the last time he'd eaten anything. The morning had been a blur of stressing about Christopher and calling Bobby to say he wouldn't be able to come in to work, and then the rest of the day had been spent taking care of his son and making sure he got enough fluids into his system.
"Does coffee count?" Eddie asked with a wry grin.
Unimpressed, Buck gave his shoulder a gentle squeeze. "Go have some water. I'll check on Chris and then whip up something for dinner."
Eddie watched him disappear down the hall to Christopher's room before sighing and making his way to the kitchen, turning lights on as he went. Obediently he got himself a glass of water, downing it almost in one go and then grimacing as his stomach rumbled hungrily.
Putting the empty glass down on the bench, he then followed the faint murmur of voices to Christopher's room and paused in the doorway with a smile.
Buck was sitting on the edge of the bed, one hand smoothing hair back from Christopher's face while the boy had his eyes closed. Without his glasses Chris looked a lot younger and Eddie felt a brief pang of nostalgia for all the years that had come and gone already.
"I'm glad you're feeling better," Buck said quietly. "Your dad's done a good job of looking after you today, huh?"
"He always does," Chris mumbled sleepily.
Shifting forward, Buck brushed his lips against Chris' forehead – Eddie felt something settle in his soul, like a puzzle piece finally slotting into place.
"I love you. I'm gonna go make some dinner and maybe get you some soup or something. Does that sound good?" Getting a nod in response, Buck stood up and headed for the door, grinning when he saw Eddie. The two of them went back to the kitchen together and Buck immediately began pulling things out of cupboards so he could get started on dinner.
"You had some water?" he asked as Eddie pulled out a chair to sit down.
"Yeah."
Buck nodded approvingly and then asked, "Hey, do you have any instant soup?"
Eddie gestured to where he thought there might be some and Buck set to work rummaging through the cupboard. He made a small sound of triumph a moment later, holding up a single serve chicken noodle soup packet.
Eddie's eyes followed him as he moved around the kitchen like he belonged there, prepping the soup for Christopher and getting things together for their dinner as well. He didn't need to ask where anything was or if he was allowed to do this; he already knew.
Because he'd been practically living here for such a long time already. He was part of their family. Eddie trusted Christopher with him completely and had done for years. He was Eddie's best friend and closest confidante. The two of them were practically inseparable – demonstrated by the way they couldn't even go a day without seeing each other before Buck was letting himself in with his key to say hi.
Scraping his chair back across the floor, Eddie stood and made his way around the table to where Buck was scattering bocconcini onto two pizza bases. Buck glanced up automatically with a smile.
"Could you stop for a second?" Eddie asked, heart in his throat as he put a hand on Buck's arm.
"Are you okay?" Buck asked, his smile turning into a concerned frown as he brushed off his fingers and gave Eddie his full attention.
"Yeah," Eddie said, and despite his racing pulse his voice was strong. Sure. "I am."
Slipping his hands into Buck's food-stained ones, Eddie sank down onto one knee and revelled in the choked gasp that left Buck's mouth and the way his eyes went wider than he'd ever seen them before.
"Buck … Evan," Eddie said softly, smiling as he saw tears welling up in Buck's eyes. "Will you marry me?"
Speechless, Buck opened and shut his mouth in an impression of a fish as he searched for something to say. When Eddie raised an eyebrow he choked out, "Are you having a stroke? We're not… I mean, we haven't even…"
"I know what I'm asking," Eddie said steadily, giving a small nod of reassurance. "I want you in my life, Buck. Forever. I'm just sorry it's taken me so long to see what's right in front of me."
Blinking rapidly to keep his tears at bay, Buck squeezed Eddie's hands tightly. "Yes," he whispered, then cleared his throat and repeated louder, "Yes! Absolutely. A thousand times yes."
And then he was pulling Eddie up and into his arms, crushing their chests together in the most soul-healing hug of all time. Eddie let out a breath he hadn't realised he'd been holding and buried his face in Buck's shoulder, lips pressed to warm skin.
They stayed like that for a few minutes, clinging to each other silently, until at last they drew back and looked into each others eyes. Buck's were still wet, and two tear tracks ran down his cheeks.
"I hope it goes without saying," Eddie murmured, lifting his hands to Buck's face and gently wiping his tears away with his thumbs. "That I love you."
"Yeah," Buck said with a grin, another tear getting caught in his eyelashes. "But it doesn't hurt to hear it. And Eddie, I love you too."
Leaning in so that their lips were almost touching, Eddie whispered, "I know you do," and then kissed him.
