and completely unrelated but i want to write it down so i dont forget. i think its hilarious how big of a narrative importance the forehead has in naruto. the forehead or brow is generally a symbol for the expression of your emotions as well as, yknow, thinking for yourself. look i never said im good at this im just rambling

you of course have the hitai-ates, covering their foreheads thus covering individual thought and replacing it with state propaganda. of course you can also see it as them being unified as one big village family but we all know its not that simple now is it. after all a good shinobi is one that doesnt let his emotions control him (turn them off),

you have good ol sakura with her forehead complex, her trying in vain and vainly to become worthy, then closing the cycle by covering her forehead again in blank period and onward, and also closing the door on her ever even attempting to change again by literally reverting back to her academy version,

you have sasuke who always got poked in the forehead by itachi as a way to keep distance between them, but due to the hitai-ate association it can also mean itachi trying to drill konoha in. and we see sasukes bangs change over time, most notably how his forehead is visible (he is free) during his orochimaru arc and ultimately covered completely after itachis death (in this case you could see it as him closing himself off, both to someone getting as close to his mind/heart as itachi ever again, and not letting konoha "cover" it),

you have neji who quite literally has state and clan propaganda burned into his forehead, making rejecting it almost impossible unless hes willing to risk his life. he understandably succumbs to the fatalism of it, has naruto raise his hopes, then ultimately dies exactly as he thought he would. almost like the curse seal twisted his emotions in its favor, he did exactly what he was supposed (im not claiming thats the case i mean narratively),

and im sure theres other examples i cant recall right now.

man, it kind of bums me out how the majority of the time that kyle's jewishness is a focal point in fan content, it's for a negative reason. if kyle's contemplating the fact that he's jewish, it's because he's being bullied or harassed, because he's feeling insecure about his appearance or self worth, because he's feeling lonely and isolated, because he's having a crisis of faith, etc etc. these are all totally valid themes and character arcs to explore, of course! i think many jews like myself may be able to relate to these themes, thanks to living in a society where antisemitism and other shitty behaviour runs rampant. but i think we're really missing a golden opportunity to explore the complex and compelling positives of being jewish. where's his love for his community? where's his excitement for an upcoming holiday? where's the comfort he might take from prayers? where's his curiosity or knowledge about his family history? where's his passion for debating interpretations of the torah? these are also valid, relatable and in-character directions you could take things!

i know that this trend is probably heavily influenced by the presence of this pattern in the show itself, but it's still a bit sad. or maybe gentiles (non-jews) shy away from celebrating his jewishness because they don't feel confident in commenting on a religious experience that they've never had. to those people, I would ask, why is it you feel comfortable speculating on the hardships of being jewish, but not the joys?

that isn't to say that you're not allowed to write about the former if you're not jewish, of course! regardless of religious background, anyone can empathise with his struggles because, at the end of the day, we're all human, and it's our humanity that unites us. but i'd encourage you to push yourself out of your comfort zone, do a little research and have some fun celebrating and supporting his jewishness once and awhile :)

Idk maybe i'm late to the discussion but from what i heard from people around me, people are mad at cheerleaders being there because (and this is not me hating on it i know it's an american thing) f1 is being americanized and that that is not necessarily a good thing for the sport (i'm not talking about the money thing, but about the fact that the focus should be on the racing and everything else is unnecessary? Like ive had (older generation) people tell me that even this whole music act thing (and the circus) is unnecessary? Like it's not a festival, it's not supposed to be coachella, people tune in for the race and the drivers)

not to worry the discussion was just me commentating into the void !!

but yes, that does seem like part of it. mainly i was seeing people upset by the sexism of it all (& “stepping backwards” after finally getting rid of grid girls and trying to boost f1 academy) which is what my original commentary was about. personally i don’t see cheerleaders as the pinnacle of misogyny (likely because i am used of american sports), which is why i have always been a bit confused about the outrage that got grid girls banned. same thing in my mind… though i guess, culturally, grid girls may have been treated differently than cheerleaders based exactly on that distinction. idk.

anyway: the “americanization” of f1 does seem to be a giant point of contention. i agree watching the podium placers walk out between the cheerleader lines was slightly hysterical because they looked so confused and it was just… excessive. i liked the pre-race show appearance, would have been happy to see them still doing some cheering near the podium, but the walk-out style a la miami being replicated here was A Bit Much.

i just don’t know how much this can really be blamed on american fans per se and how much it needs to be taken up with liberty media/f1… they seem to be driving the “entertainment” push & the american gps are giving them what they asked for and being actively encouraged (i believe) to go all out and “american” with it. in theory it’s kind of a genius PR move by f1/liberty because it means they can get the circus they want and tap into american viewership while simultaneously shifting the blame onto american fans/gps when/if things go over poorly abroad.

all that to say is i’m interested to see how this shakes out with next year’s calendar and the potential waning of american interest if the “mainstream” fans push to reduce american involvement. like, is liberty still going to try to push gp hosts to amp up the craziness anyway? will they abandon the project and just pass it off as a failed american experiment? are we going to see it backfire for f1 and see a migration from all the new american fans being pushed to indycar and nascar instead, since those are already “ours” (quote unquote) and more receptive to new viewership? inquiring minds (me) want to know

okay it def started just as the Peak Comedic Ship bc of silver's PE vignette. like. vil looks at him and SEES the potential. silver is so pretty and graceful and powerful but then he walks around washing his hair with bar soap and has never washed his face with more than water, and you would FEEL vil simmering in confusion and the Need to give him better habits. silver's bday card (i think?) supports this, bc he mentioned how vil gifted him fancy products and insisted he use them, but bc it was a lot of maintenance, silver only used them till he ran out and never got more. he KNOWS the products would give improved results, but doesn't care abt it enough personally to do it, i think its so funny i want them in a room together

but then! THEN! the Epic Twst Silver Sadness Saga of 2022 happened this week and i've thought abt them more than just the surface level comedy or the 'mashing two pretty boys together like barbie dolls' angle. i think it'd be interesting to consider silver's lack of care for things like his looks or like, the health of skin/hair, from the angle that it isn't important to his abilities (or it doesn't matter in the long run, he's gonna die anyways [but that's me being dramatic.]) vil emphasizes taking care of oneself and goes out of his way to cater healthy habits to the people around him (his dorm vignette talks abt how he made like, individualized plans for his dormmates in prep for an interview or w/e.) i think if the situation ever arose for silver to explain why he doesn't maintain the habits, they could have a real fuckgn moment. i think vil could essentially sit him down and say the shit we're all screaming abt in the tags, that he should value his own wellbeing more and that can start with healthy habits, with the expectation of a LONG and happy healthy life. i think vil would do well having someone who would inherently see the good in him based on actions rather than appearances (his whole typecast villain dilemma), and silver has a really calm vibe that i do think would just. mesh well. im gesturing vaguely by now but i do think they have potential both from the 'haha funny' side and the genuine ability to work well for each other i love them so dearly

I'll answer these for Kit McCrane because I think they would be the most interesting with these particular questions

✨ - Honestly, I came up with Kit kinda on the spot because I liked how it sounded. And then I made up the surname McCrane because he's a construction worker and it sounded nice with Kit.

🌺 - Kit is dating my OC Terracotta, who is the father of my OCs Basil and Cilantro. Kit doesn't see any issue with herself, a cog, with a toon for a partner, because he feels he has more in common with toons than he does with the cogs at the top of the capitalist hierarchy. The two have only been dating for about three years, and Kit hasn't even met the kids yet. She hopes they'll like him. (Spoiler, they won't </3)

🍀 - Honestly, I'd started to conceptualize Kit a while after I'd already decided on Terracotta having a cog partner, which makes me feel a little bad because it reads like Kit was written to be a love interest and a love interest alone. (She has plenty of connections and relations separate from him, though.) They were written with a lot of traits that mirror Terracotta's.

🌂 - Cartridge, the city I made up in which Kit and Terracotta live (and Basil and Cilantro grew up in), is a bit of a gritty setting, especially compared to Toontown, so I could easily see Kit being the protagonist of some sort of dystopia.

And, just for fun, I'm gonna put the Kit lore I have written down under a cut in case anyone wants additional context for this or wants to learn more about my beloved goober. (Since I don't post much OC lore to tumblr)

This gentle construction worker is known by his peers as someone that gets easily distracted. They're a worrier, who can come up with about a million different ways any given situation can go wrong. She tries not to let this keep her from getting out and doing things, and actually has quite the adventurous side.

If Kit told you they have a criminal record, you'd probably think she was telling a weird unfunny joke. No, he hasn't been to jail or anything, but he's been slapped with fine after fine for the repeated offense of climbing skyscrapers in Cartridge. One might wonder why someone so anxious would do something so dangerous, but for Kit, it's the perfect outlet to calm their nerves. Her loved ones really want them to stop though, especially after seeing what happened when they fell down that one time. (If it weren't for a generous favor from a friend, she'd still be paying off that repair bill.) Honestly, Kit doesn't understand why everyone worries about him so much; he does more than enough of that already.

If he had a "dream job", it would be a costume designer; they're quite passionate about theater. But they're satisfied where they are, content to help her partner Terracotta make clothing as a mere hobby. (Their coat is actually a gift from him!) Kit loves asking his partner to sing for them; his voice is just so beautiful. They're also looking forward to being able to finally meet Terracotta's kids. She doesn't find it strange at all that they chose to date a Toon, after all, she has more in common with them than she does any of the wealthy Cogs of Cartridge. Strangely enough, one rich person, the mayor of Cartridge herself, has taken a liking to Kit; she even bought him and Terracotta live tickets to its favorite game show.

Sometimes, when Kit goes in for maintenance, people notice a strange file on their hard drive. Nobody's been able to decrypt it though, and Kit spends a lot of time worrying about what it is and why it's there.
