wow I really said "I need to make more art" and then I immediately started another big art piece that's going to be the only thing I work on for the next 2-3 months

Left: a repurposed sketch that I'm turning into an another portrait of Phercy/Epsilon. this is going to be a smaller piece that will get done when it gets done (as usual).

Right: said big dumb art piece that's going to be the only thing I work on for the next 2-3 months. cowboy Tecca because I love to deliver on my promises.

I finished Tecca's ref! I ended up going in an entirely different direction with his markings and kept the colors mostly the same. I'll probably do one last one for Null and their past lives and then I'm calling it quits, there are more Shimmera out there but I'm only making visual refs for the ones I want to commission art of lmao. Lore under the cut as usual.

Tecca is a Gyregan/Ektraa Faeng Shimmera; he takes care of local wildlife as a ranger of sorts on his ranch in the Northern Strata. He is very polite and humble, almost self-deprecatingly so, he's got quite a past for a Gyregan pariah and most of his more interesting stories take place in Vossilor. He doesn't talk much about his past, but you could piece some of it together if you listen to the songs he's written...

He also dresses like a goth cowboy and I also have to draw that at some point!!

Another piece from my backlog finished! This is a redraw of this piece with my current Kinself. Honestly I just wanted a new header with personal symbolism that I drew myself.

New Shimmera just dropped!! I finally finished Xyla's full ref :)

This is Xyla, one of the Pyrefei’s most respected elder, also known as the “Firebrand”. She is compassionate yet unmoving, a tactical genius, and master of beast and machine, and she has two adopted children (Fen and Ire).

I don't have any new lore for her to share rn but she actually has a lot of it given she's one of the longer lived Shimmera lol. There's a lot of important stuff she's been involved so I have to sit down and do a write up of all of that and I want to make sure give it the time it deserves.

It's been too long since I've last drawn Epsilon looking soft and pretty so I fixed that. Come look at this experimental portrait of him that I made.

Here’s the scrapped version of a piece I’m currently working on that I might revisit/finish as a refined sketch later. I’d figure since I’m at the point where I’m currently transferring the final version to my PC so I can finish it I might as well share this while I’m at it.

There’s lore by the way, some facts regarding Shimmera and their 'braincases' since Null’s is on display here.

When newly formed Imago develop their physical form (referred to as ‘Pelt’) the first thing that forms is their braincase which holds their consciousness. This braincase turns into a skull when the pelt finishes forming.

Shimmera past the Imago stage can still revert back to this early stage of development if they have been stripped of their anima and can no longer hold their fully formed pelt. This form (braincase as the only physical part of the body) is easier to maintain so they’ll stay this way until they can regenerate enough anima to restore their full pelt again.

Null’s braincase here is what it looks like when a Shimmera past the Imago stage has been stripped of their anima, it retains a bone-like appearance for a time then reverts back to it’s normal smooth appearance.

Null’s braincase has iridescent striations from drinking water from the Skall, which reacts with the magic they use. The material the braincase is made from depends on where the Shimmera is formed, being a blend of organic material produced by the Shimmera and hard minerals/metals found in the area.

Here's a sketch I did of my big stinky muse, Beck, since I haven't drawn him in awhile! Every time I draw him get gets more feathery it’s great, he really is living up to his namesake. Too bad he has the same bitey temperament though.

I'm working on another Shimmera ref! This time its Xyla's turn to get a one. Now that I understand how her face works she's pretty fun to draw, beaked Shimmera are some of my favorites to draw :)

I finally "finished" Ilo's ref :) he's Null's bff and kind of a trickster figure in Faeng folklore.

Artificially formed in to a rich naval Aurai family, Ilo was heir to the Throne's seas and his fleet remained undefeated for aeons. During the liberation of the Frontier Ilo and his fleet were sent to the Frontier so he could claim it's seas for the Aurai, instead he turned against them and aided the Faeng against his own kind.

Some misc. notes under the cut:

He's very laid back and has a keen sense of humor which clashes with how he looks; he was trained as a upper caste warrior so he holds himself like one and looks pretty emotionless until he starts talking and then you can tell he's actually a big goof ball.

Ilo allowed Null to use his physical form after shedding it in order to "reach enlightenment" so they could use his power to protect the Northern Strata, which is why Null's old form resembles him.

Ilo has a "genetic" trait that manifests as asymmetrical markings and physical features. This trait is common in naturally formed Shimmera and the first generation of artificially formed Shimmera, which Ilo happens to be the latter.

Typically Shimmerain names describe the location and circumstances where/when the individual formed at but since Ilo was artificially formed he simply was known as "Ilo" or "The Typhoon". Ilo eventually found a name that he liked, one that describes the ocean during the summer, just as the warm breeze pushes the sun beneath the waves and before the moon rises from the depths to take it's place. It's a moment in time he cherishes dearly.

I'm still slowly working on this one! I couldn't get the lines to look right to me so I skipped that shit and moved on to painting since that's my favorite part lmao

Okay so I did finally put a face to that very important Shimmera :)

This is Xyla, the Pyrefei’s most respected elder also known as the “Firebrand”. She is compassionate yet unmoving, a tactical genius and master of beast and machine, and has two adopted sons (Fen and Ire). Xyla wears protective braids over her whiskers due to sensitivity issues. She is pretty old but she’s always had sad looking eyes and pronounced cheekbones, otherwise she has a healthy filled out frame.

a wip! I literally could not stop thinking about this concept so I’m drawing it. Mir talking to Psamathe in her quarters, which is a huge aquarium made just for her. I imagine Mir is signing to her and she’s responding to them through a hydrophone installed in her tank.
