while i'm happy to perpetuate and appreciate the comedic value of the memeification of the male vocal lines in evanescence's "bring me to life" in recent years, as an avid early evanescence apologist i think it's important to periodically share their tragic origin, which is as follows: there was never supposed to be a male vocalist on the track. amy lee was actually initially pressured by her record label to hire a male vocalist to be a full time member of the band in order to capitalize on the popularity of linkin park at the time. she refused and said she was willing to sacrifice the contract and release of the album if forced to hire him. the label backed down but only under the condition that he was at least included on the debut single. amy lee was fucking literally coerced into cringe. justice for amy lee. free amy lee. thank you, tell your friends
