Wow Birthday Whump Day 10: Hypothermia / Heat flashes / "Bind them."

Sil is stupid.

Sil swallowed, looking up at Joseph’s frowning face. “I’m sorry I-“

“Wasn’t thinking,” he filled in, unfurling a large, bright orange blanket. “Yeah, I can tell.” Sil kept quiet, letting Joseph drop the blanket over his shoulders. “Really, Sil, swimming across a lake in December!” He over-enunciatated every syllable in the word for effect. “What in heaven’s name lead you to believe that that was a good idea?”

“I don’t know. It was just a bet.” He shrugged, pulling the blanket tighter around his shivering form. “I didn’t think it’d be that cold.” His teeth were still chattering, which didn’t help his case.

Joseph raised his eyebrows incredulously. “Mm-hmm.” He slid a plastic cover onto the end of the thermometer. “Open up.”

Sil complied, taking the device in his mouth and pressing it against his cheek. They made uncomfortable eye contact while they waited, Joseph staring daggers at him while he kept his gaze downcast. The device beeped, and Sil took the fact that the frown on his face didn’t deepen any further as a good sign. Joseph sighed. “Just keep that blanket on.”

Dutifully, Sil nodded, pulling the bright orange fabric tighter around himself. He sat quietly while Joseph packed the rest of his things away. “I’m gonna go get you some warm clothes, and I think Teri’s making hot chocolate. You want some?”

“Yeah, thank you,” he mumbled, eyes still fixed on Joseph’s shoes. “Alright, I’ll be back.”

Just as Joseph started to turn away, Sil snapped his head up. “I’m sorry. I know it was stupid.”

He paused, then sat down on the bed next to him. “It’s alright, I’m just worried.” He ruffled Sil’s hair, then stood again. “But we don’t do stupid things with our lives.” His voice was deadly serious. “It’s the most valuable thing you own, got it?”

Sil nodded. “Got it.”

WoW Birthday Whump Day 10

So, guess who got sick, had to leave work early, took a three hour nap, and had to cancel the evening's plans? At least that means I have time to write now!

Prompt: "Bind them."

Nathan woke up sometime later to the feeling of someone roughly covering his mouth and pinning him to the couch. Startled, he tried to fight back. His limbs felt so heavy and his head felt super foggy. He was definitely still sick and whoever was on top of him wasn’t Josh. He couldn’t make out who it was in the dark.

There was the sound of a scuffle nearby. It sounded like Josh had fallen asleep in the armchair by the couch and was in a similar situation.

“Bind them,” a voice ordered. It wasn’t Alex but Nathan thought that it might be one of the men who had originally kidnapped him. Someone pulled his hands together in front of his body and tied them. There was enough rope left over to use as a lead rope.

He was dragged off of the couch and to his feet. He didn’t have the energy to fight back as he was led out of the cabin. It was pitch black outside, the stars obscured by clouds. Nathan let himself be led by the rope leash tying his hands together. They walked about five minutes down the path and he stumbled over rocks and branches he couldn’t see in the dim illumination offered by the flashlights the men had.

They came to a stop and Nathan found himself being blindfolded again. His arms were secured to his body using the excess rope that had been used as a leash. He was lifted off the ground and realized he was being tied to the back of a four wheeler. When he was secured, it fired up underneath him.

He drifted in and out of consciousness during the rough ride. Every bump hurt his head and made his body ache even more. They must have been going for an hour or two before they stopped.

The first thing he heard in the new quiet was a series of curses and swearing.

“How the heck did you lose him?”

“I don’t know, man, I had him secured.”

“Well, go find him. It’s starting to get light out, retrace your tracks and find him. Alex is going to kill us for losing the kid.”

The other four wheeler turned back on and drove off. Nathan felt someone untie him from the one he was tied to. He was set on his feet and roughly led across the dirt and inside a house. Soon enough, he was back in his basement prison and the blindfold was removed. The man untied his wrists but replaced the rope with the metal handcuffs chained to the floor.

The cool cement floor felt good against his face but he desperately wished for a blanket or sweatshirt. He was burning up and he was so cold. His head ached, his body ached, he was so thirsty and so hungry. He knew his fever was bad but there was nothing he could do about it except sleep. But in his miserable state, sleep did not want to come for him.

Forsaken: The Doomed City Masterpost

TW: hypothermia, blood, broken nose, bruises, attempted escape, swearing, captivity

Context: Directly after Sam's hypothermia torture at the hands of Blizzard, she attempts escape. She doesn't get far. (guess who fucking finally got a proper working title???)

Rough hands dragged Sam out of the tender grasp of sleep. She blinked, eyelids heavy, and wondered why everything was so white. It was only when the hands pulled her out of the snow-covered cell that she remembered the storm.

Why was it snowing in the cell? They were underground.

“Is she still alive?”

That voice….

“Yes, but she won’t be for much longer without intervention.”

Sam forced her eyes open. Two people stood over her, a man and a woman. The woman was vaguely familiar, with long hair colored an unnatural shade of white. She looked down at Sam with disdain. “I expected more of her. Physical talent and all.”

It was the woman’s expression that clicked the pieces together. She tried to kill me!

A sudden burst of rage and adrenaline fueled Sam. She scrambled to her feet and tackled Blizzard to the ground, screaming incoherently. Blizzard tried to fend her off, to create a snowstorm, anything, but Sam punched her in the face once, twice, three times, disrupting each attempt.

The man tried to pull her away from Blizzard, but Sam turned on him, whirling around and striking him in the face with her elbow. He staggered back, blood gushing from his newly broken nose, and Sam leaped off Blizzard and stumbled down the corridor.

She only got two steps before she was lifted off the ground. Sam struggled and yelled as an unseen force dragged her back to where she’d started. The man’s hand was outstretched, brow furrowed in concentration as blood streamed down his face and dripped onto the floor. Telekinetic!

Blizzard slowly picked herself up off the floor, gently probing the forming bruises on her face. “Shut her up, will you?”

The telekinetic stepped forward and punched Sam in the gut. She gasped, air whooshing out of her lungs, and sagged in the air, struggling to breathe.

“Not so tough now, are we?” Blizzard asked sweetly, tracing a manicured fingernail across the scar on Sam’s cheek.

“Fuck… you....”

“Oh, so terrifying,” Blizzard smirked. “You really should save that ferocity for the arena. You’ll need all the help you can get.”

Arena? “What…?”

“You’ll find out soon enough, darling.” Blizzard turned to the telekinetic. “Take her to the infirmary until she recovers. When you get there, bind her. I don’t want her trying to murder our doctor.”

Sam couldn’t muster the breath and energy required to scream the obscenities running through her head as she was dragged down the corridor away from Blizzard. If I’m ever alone with you, she vowed, tears of fury and helplessness beginning to stream down her face, no one will be able to identify the body.

No one.

WoW's Birthday Whump Event!

Hi everyone! WoW here, and after some thought, I decided to do this! Unfortunately, no fancy picture or anything so this will have to do!

Also, instead of the entire month, I'll do 15 days instead! Thinking up different prompts for all 30 days is kinda hard, so this will have to do LOL

The event starts this year, 2024, on April 1st and ends on April 15th! So get your stuff ready till then!

I know other fandoms have re-watch parties. We could watch the pilot and one other episode? I have NO idea how other fandoms do this, so if anybody knows how this works…

I do have digital copies of all the episodes. I could put the pilot and the ‘top ten’ episodes in google drive. Then we could take a survey of what the second episode for the rewatch party will be? would that work?

if so, then I need a list of what y’all think the top ten episodes (besides the pilot) are!

Would y’all like to do a bingo card challenge? I could post bingo cards in January, so people have plenty of time to make stuff!

WoW Birthday Whump Day 9

This might be the last part I get up in April, we'll see. I've started on Day 10 but I've got a busy day today and might not be able to finish in time. Here's the masterlist. It's super short but I didn't really have much more to add for this part.

Prompt: Aftermath of rescue / Sickness / "You're burning up."

When Nathan woke up, he realized something was not right. He felt clammy even though there was a blanket on top of him and he felt so sweaty. His skin felt super sensitive, like he had just been shocked again. He felt weaker than he had before.

Josh came into the room and looked relieved that Nathan was awake.

“Thank goodness you’re awake, dude. You’re burning up.” Nathan tried to respond but the words came out as an unintelligible croak. Josh handed him a bottle of water and he gratefully drank it. 

“I did find soup, would you like any?” Josh asked. Nathan nodded. Any food would be good. Nathan lifted his hand like he was making a phone call. Josh shook his head.

“No, I wasn’t able to find one at all. I’m… I’m not sure what the next step is but you’re not in any condition to go anywhere or be left alone for long so I figure we’ll hunker down here and hope my uncle doesn’t find us.”

Nathan didn’t know what else to do so he ate the bowl of soup Josh brought and fell back asleep.

... Okay so how much would it bother people if I posted the WoW Birthday event prompts out of order just so the story I'm working on makes sense chronologically? Because I've tried to bend over every which direction I can to fit the prompts together every day, but it's just not working and it's driving me insane.

All entries would still be tagged correctly with their assigned days and themes, the only difference is I'd post them to my blog out of order, IE: Day 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 14, 8, 6, 7, 9, 11, 12, 10, 13, 15

I will have a master post where the entries are listed in order for the event, and a separate post where the story entries are listed in order, even if they were posted out of order for the whump event. I just don't wanna confuse people? But maybe doing this is making things more confusing actually...? I have (mostly) finished entries ready to go but I haven't hit publish because my brain is itchy.
