Wait so if fpk has albinism(I know you use another word but have no time to look that up now(actually that's a lie, I'm just a bit lazy)), then is he a Pale Being, or are Pale Beings mean something else in your AU?
Leucism is the word I use, and they're not exactly the same thing. The idea is similar, it usually results in a coat that is pale in color, but where albinism is a complete lack of melanin (often resulting in red or very pale eyes), leucism is only a partial loss of pigment, so in many cases the animal has patches of pale skin instead of being completely white (look up leucistic alligators for a really nice example; piebaldism is another word I've seen people use for those cases). In FPK's case, you can see it in his darker belly, hands and feet, as well as the fact that his eyes are just naturally blue as opposed to pale or pink.
In the AU, Pale Being simply referred to FPK and WL, and was moreso a term describing their appearance than anything else. It might have also referred to their use of soul magic, which would give them even more of an identity that would separate them from other higher beings, but that's about as far as it goes. They're not unique from the gods (well, FPK is, but that is for a whole another reason, he was still widely considered to be a god so that doesn't really count here), it's basically just what people used when talking about them or any of their offspring if they had them (that one didn't turn out quite as people expected, though).

SANGHEILI HEADCANON TIEM
Okay okay so we’re all in agreement that the Sangheili have a sick design and it’s super fun to think of all the various ways they could look, like different skin tones, eye colours, markings, etc.
But I’m sure one type of design that’s crossed a lot of people’s minds is an albino Sangheili, and so I’ve made it my job today to delve into what that could theoretically and realistically look like and how they would exist in the Halo universe!
(Full disclaimer: I am not an “ologist” of any kind and the following is 100% speculation based on what I was able to research, so apologies if there’s any information I get incorrect.)
So the first thing to consider and look at is how real-world albinism works. Albinism can be present in humans, animals, and even plants (bet you didn’t know that. Neither did I). The simplest way I can explain how it’s caused is it stems from a gene mutation that occurs during the growth of the embryo that prevents the natural production of melanin, the pigments that give our skin, eyes, and hair their colour. This is what makes organisms with albinism appear white or lacking in darker colours.
The poster-child appearance for albinism is pure white skin/fur/feathers/scales and red/pink eyes, but this isn’t always the case. Some species with albinism possess the yellow or red/orange pigmentations known as carotenoids, which are actually caused by the animal’s diet, unlike melanin which is naturally produced by the body. As for the eyes, the lack of melanin actually makes all of the blood vessels visible, which is what gives them their red colour.
(It’s also important to note that albinism should not be confused with leucism; albinism is the complete loss of pigmentation, while leucism is the partial loss of pigmentation. Leucism also affects all pigments, not just melanin, which is why leucistic snakes for example are pure white (or piebald; leucism can be very patchy) and have no visible patterns, because the carotenoids are also being prevented. Leucistic animals also commonly have blue eyes.)
Now, what are the health impacts of albinism? Creatures with albinism are generally as healthy as any other of their species (well, most of the time anyway; sometimes there are exceptions) - it’s external factors that give them a less than stellar reputation. For wild animals, albinism obviously gets rid of any camouflage, so prey are easy targets for predators, and predators find it difficult to go unnoticed by prey. But the food chain isn’t their biggest threat: it’s actually the sun.
Melanin is our natural protection against UV, and without it, we’re extremely vulnerable to burns and skin cancer. Since albinism affects your eyes, sunlight can seriously harm your vision, too - think of melanin in your eyes as natural sunglasses; take those sunglasses away and the light is suddenly not very pleasant to look at. Not only are you photosensitive, but there’s no UV protection here either, so prolonged exposure in the sunlight means your vision will quickly degrade. The same goes for animals, and this is why many don’t survive to adulthood.
So, with all that in mind, let’s take a look at some real-world photos of albinism (in reptiles specifically, since Sangheili are saurian) so we can start putting together how it might look on a Sangheili.
Since albinism appears differently on varying species, we’ll start by organizing them by type and then decide which varient works best for a Sangheili.
Starting with snakes, patterned carotenoids are very common, and in some cases parts of the snake can even appear translucent:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lizards are also very similar in that aspect:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Crocodillians (usually alligators) however don’t always have prominent patterning, so a majority of them are mostly white with tinted areas of carotenoids instead:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Babies are an exception though)
Tumblr media
There’s also turtles, but I wanted to keep this list limited to reptiles that are similar to Sangheili.
Now, which out of all the above is correct for an albino Sangheili?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Looking at the model, well...it could honestly be any of them. It’s entirely dependent on the creative liberties you take with your character - for example, if you want your Sangheili to have patterning, then they’ll probably have carotenoids since they’re omnivorous (but because they’re aliens, those pigments might not even be yellow or red/orange). However, if your Sangheili is a lot more plain, then they’ll most likely be more white with slight tinting, like alligators.
If you want my opinion though, Sangheili skin seems to resemble a combination of crocodillians and lizards the most. They have rough, bumpy osteoderms lining their head, shoulders, and back, as well as loose patches of skin, especially around the mouth and neck. The latter I could see having a slight translucency to it with albinism, but the former would be plain white (with some hints of pigmentation), since the rest of their skin is very thick.
However, there’s one thing about the Sangheili that makes them differ slightly to Earth’s albinos:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sangheili blood isn’t red.
(Even though it tehcnically should be because oxygen is what makes blood cells red and Sangheili breathe oxygen but whatever ALIENS)
But why am I bringing this up, you ask?
Well, remember that red eyes in albinos are caused by the blood vessels being visible due to the lack of melanin. So, if Sangheili blood isn’t red...
That’s right, albino Sangheili would have indigo-coloured eyes instead.
The colour of the blood could also potentially affect some of the white on their skin, especially where translucency and visible blood vessels are concerned, making them appear more blue or purple tinted.
So yeah, that’s something to keep in mind.
WOO, now that we’ve covered how albino Sangheili would look, it’s time to go over if they would even be around in the Halo universe!
And, well...they actually wouldn’t.
And that’s not because they can’t exist in the first place, they absolutely can be born because it’s simply a genetic mutation. The reason you wouldn’t ever see one though is because they would never survive for long.
Especially on Sanghelios.
Sanghelios, for those of you who don’t know, is a planet in a tri-star system, meaning it has THREE SUNS. As such, the planet’s surface is an incredibly harsh environment, and most of its land is dry and rocky.
Remember what I said about albinism causing a lack of UV protection? Albino reptiles are especially prone to UV radiation because they have no fur or feathers, which would otherwise provide some protection.
And since the Sangheili are so far behind on medical science, they would have no idea that it’s the sunlight that kills their albinos.
In fact, as Sangheili are very supersitious, I wouldn’t be surprised if they actually believe these “white childlings born with eyes of blood” are cursed. They’re probably seen as a sign of ill omen, and I can imagine many parents trying their best to prevent a seemingly doomed fate, while others would know it is fultile and give their child an early mercy.
However, since many Sangheili now have an alliance with the humans, it’s entirely possible that albinos can finally starting growing to adulthood, because all it would take is a human visiting Sanghelios and seeing or hearing about an albino childling and going, “Oh yeah it’s cuz they’re born without natural protection is all, just keep them out of the sun and they should be fine” and imagine how many Sangheili minds would be blown that day, lmao.
Anyway, CONCLUSION: Albino Sangheili pretty
That is all, thank you for coming to my TED Talk.

Albino tiger cubs born in China zoo: It's not awww, breeding genetically deformed animals for their cute factor is awful --- Total Shares The rare, blue-eyed triplets were born nearly three months ago at a zoo in Kunming, China (Photo: Yunnan Wildlife Zoo) The wild world is going gaga over the public debut of the three rare, blue-eyed white tiger triplets that were born nearly three months ago at the Yunnan Wildlife Zoo in Kunming, China. Last year, there was this story of the “adorable” white giraffe calf in Tanzania, with its not-so-white mother. However, before we go “awww” over it, let us understand what a white tiger, or any white wild animal in general, is. A white individual animal (unless the entire species is white in colour) is an albino, or suffers from a condition called albinism. It is a congenital disorder affecting the pigment of the skin, hair, and eyes. An enzyme involved in the production of melanin — called tyrosinase — is absent or non-functional in these animals. An individual lacking all melanin is called albino, and an individual with reduced melanin content is called leucistic or albinoid. An ultra rare albino giraffe, spotted in Tanzania. pic.twitter.com/unZujk9FWV — Nature Is Weird (@NaturelsWeird) October 25, 2018 Although rare, albinism has been observed in almost every species on earth and in wild animals. Studies show that survival for any length of time in the predatory world of wildlife is almost impossible for the albino animal. An albino baby turtle swims with green sea babies turtle in a pond at Khram island, Thailand (Photo: Reuters) The congenital disorder makes an albino’s eyes extremely sensitive to light. Therefore, the ill-fated creature must live with very poor vision — if not born blind. In the wild world, survival usually requires highly developed powers of sight. As a prey, an albino is unable to spot the predator in good time to make a run for life, and if it is an albino predator that must rely on keen eyesight to locate its prey, it is at a definite disadvantage during https://www.dailyo.in/variety/albino-tiger-cubs-triplets-china-zoo-turtle-genetic-deformity-alligator-cobra-peacock/story/1/27443.html (at V-Tees) https://www.instagram.com/p/Bpg-IgwA7e0/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=2fdh7xaw7zd0

Albino 🐊 Gatorland Founded 68 years ago by Owen Godwin on former cattle land in 1949,[1] it has been privately owned by his family since then. Billed as the "Alligator Capital of the World," Gatorland features thousands of alligators and crocodiles, a breeding marsh with boardwalk and observation tower, reptile shows, aviary, petting zoo, swamp walk, and educational programs. The park is known for buying and rescuing nuisance alligators from trappers that would otherwise be killed for their meat and skin. The Breeding Marsh area of the park was used in the filming of the 1984 movie Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. The operation also has an active road show providing alligator wrestling, pythons, lizards and other animals with an informative animal talk for private parties and benefits. In addition, Gatorland manages the live alligator display at the Gaylord Palms resort in Kissimmee. This park also has a snakes of Florida exhibit, with species like indigo snakes, cottonmouths, and rattlesnakes. The park is also known for its leucistic alligators. Gatorland is a 110-acre (45 ha) theme park and wildlife preserve in Florida, located along South Orange Blossom Trail south of Orlando. Out of the 5 million american alligator population there are thought to be only 12 leucistic gators. These are not albino animals, they are what we call leucistic, which means they have a little bit of pigmentation around the mouth and a little touch on the tail and they have piercing blue eyes." They are just like alligators and they eat the same food," explains Mr Williams. "The biggest concern is that they never would have survived in the wild. They are like little beacons out shining "come eat me". "They are each ten to eleven plus feet in length and vulnerable to many predators because their lack of skin pigmentation deprives them of natural camouflage." We have four white alligators here at Gatorland and because they are all males they cannot be in the same enclosure as they are all very big and they would all fight with each other," says Mr Williams. Day 22: Sunday June 11, 2017
I, without a doubt, saved my best day for last! Three days ago I signed up for a training experience, and it was the best decision I ever made in my life. When I woke up this morning I quickly got ready and made my way to Gatorland where I took part in a multiple hour trainer-for-a-day program! Though this was not originally planned, I decided to make the detour because I knew that I would be doing a lot of hands on activity with the animals.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Since I had talked to my trainer and guide on the phone the day before, he knew all about my project. He was impressed with my knowledge and told the other man in our group that he may want to ask me all the questions because I was now an “expert.”
For my first encounter, we went into a small office where there was a large tank that was home to three hatchlings. These gators were so small that they fit right into the palm of my hand. Also, because they were newly hatched, their mouths did not have to be taped shut because their teeth would not actually be strong enough to break the skin. Nevertheless, I kept my fingers out of their mouth because I knew the bite would still hurt.
Tumblr media
After leaving the office, we went out into the park. Here we first stopped at a pen that housed 3 - 4 year old gators. After the trainer jumped into the water and caught two, he wrapped their mouths and let me hold one. Though fairly young, the alligator was heavy and hard to hang on to when he started thrashing around, trying to get free. I hung on however and was told to hold the gator firmly as if it were a machine gun! After I was done holding the gator, the trainer removed the tape from its mouth to show me the gators jaws. Though young, that gator would’ve been able to rip my finger off it had gotten a hold of it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Before moving onto the next exhibit, we stopped to look at some of the giant gators in the open pens because they were bellowing. As I said in an earlier post, bellowing is how an alligator calls for a mate. It was so cool to watch because the gator would rise up out of the water and the water around them would shudder as the sound waves passed through. We even saw some males fighting as they were both trying to gain control of the one area!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Though it is called Gatorland, the park is also home to a lot of other animals. While there, I got to engage with Galapagos tortoises, a python, Florida Panthers, raccoons, and some birds!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Next, I got to look in on some Crocodiles! Since crocodiles, are more aggressive, faster, stronger, and all together smarted than alligators, none of us were able to go into the pens with them. In fact, feeders that work at the park daily have a tough time going into the pens. So, we stayed close, but safe outside of the fences.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
After walking around the park for a little bit, I finally got the chance to go into a pen that was connected to a breeding pool. The alligators here were giant and they came right up to us when we entered because they knew that we had brought food. For about 30 minutes, we threw raw meat to the alligators and right into their mouths. At the end, I decided I wanted a picture. So, I turned my back to the alligators, trusting that they wouldn’t lunge at me, and posed for the best picture of my life!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
After the large feeding, I went into different exhibits to feed some other alligators, including two different kinds of white alligator, albino and leucistic. Leucism is an extremely rare mutation that results in the partial loss of pigmentation, whereas albinism results in total pigmentation loss. Leusisitc alligators have some spots on them and usually have gorgeous blue eyes. Albino alligators are entirely white with white/pink eyes. Both were beautiful and fun to interact with. Pearl, the albino alligator was extremely aggressive, but it was awesome to feed her!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
After all of the meat was done, we moved onto my favorite part of the day, Alligator Wrestling. Though the trainer was in the pit with me, I had such a great time getting up close and personal with a seven foot alligator. I even got to do some tricks such as bull dogging and sticking my finger in the gators mouth! Don’t worry though, all ten fingers are still attached! Alligator wrestling was just a lot of fun and something that I did not think was possible until I decided to make the detour through Orlando. It was totally worth it!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Though I was perfectly safe while engaging with these animals, sometimes people are not so lucky. These are wild animals and even though they are kept in captivity and are worked with everyday, the animals will still revert back to their instincts. After I was done in the ring, another handler got into show us a few tricks. He was doing well until he went to flip the gator over. This is a cool trick because the alligator become immobilized when it is on its back, and it cannot “wake up” until it is tickled. Anyway, while he was performing the trick, his hand slipped and the alligator bit down hard onto his thumb. It took three trainers over 15 minutes to be able to get the alligators jaws open so that he could remove his hand. Fortunately, they were able to get his hand out of the alligators mouth and his thumb was still connected to his hand. Despite the blood and the hole in his hand, the trainer performed his trick anyway. He will be okay even though he will need some anti-bacterial medicine and stitches. If you look closely at the gators mouth and neck in the last few pictures, you will see some blood. As I said, these are wild and dangerous animals that must be respected!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I had a fantastic time at Gatorland, and I am positive that I will be back again someday! For now, I am headed back home to Pennsylvania. I will be stopping somewhere in Virginia to spend the night. My Magellan is over, but I had such a wonderful time!
