Smile, Dolly!
“The Old Lady” was what they called her back in the day. The 1900s had turbulent days and hardships for the Talyllyn Railway, but despite the odds, they had overcome it all.
But all that hard work, all their struggles, all their successions, overshadowed by their twin railway; The Skarloey. As a result of the reverend’s books, their railway became popular as it was a place where fans could celebrate their siblings and have the engines dress up as their celebrity counterparts. For the Talyllyn engines, it was uncomfortable, especially when guests just pretended they were someone they weren’t, even if it wasn’t the Extravaganza week. Dolgoch knew it all too well, but she just had to bear through it.
Tumblr media
Their voices are ignored.
Tumblr media
They simply have to smile.
Tumblr media
Sometimes, they can’t help but envy their siblings.
Tumblr media
Is a little bit of recognition too much to ask?

4 random thoughts I came up with for some reason.
1: Smudger wouldn't be trusting with the other SKR members, mainly as Duke broke his promise to rescue Smudger.
2: With his constant derailments they'd had tried to increase his tire treads kinda like what happened to Sir Handel and Sir Haydn.
3: Smudger at least in thought was the same incident as Henry. He was stolen designs for Dolgoch and Rheneas, someone on the Mid Sodor stole some old rejected designs from the Fletcher and Jennings works in England and built smudger.
4: in concept with point 3 I made, Smudger and Rheneas wouldn't be twin brothers more like just brothers. Since in thought Smudger's wheel configuration is slightly bigger than what the Mid Sodor offered. Where as the Mid Sodor's track gauge is 2'3 Smudger's gauge was 2'3.7 so his gauge was .7 inches bigger. Which in turn made his complaints valid
Bonus though I just had
5: Smudger being a stolen rejected design of Dolgoch means that he is a unique class of engine, he was nicknamed Fletcher Jennings class bc.
You might be wondering why the mid Sodor gave smudger .7 inches extra on his wheels, well originally he wasn't supposed to remain on the Mid Sodor. He was supposed to be shipped off to some random railway in Arizona.
Update:
7/9/2024
It is now canon

Sodor's Christmas Committee
Tumblr media
Christmas Fayres are big events for the population of Sodor, and there are many of them across the island throughout December.
Despite the number, Rheneas, Edward, and Dowager Hatt play key roles in the planning of every single one. Due to Rheneas and Edward's rail schedules, it isn't always possible for all three to attend each one together. But when they do, you can usually find them dressed in Christmas finery close to the mulled wine/cider stall.

Random TTTE head canons and ideas No.3
Even though the Talyllyn Railway and Skarloey Railway have very remarkably similar history and motive power rosters, the engines themselves have very different and unique personalities to each other. This is a quick bio for Dolgoch.
No.2 “Dolgoch” “We must keeps trains moving and on time”
Dolgoch better known as “Dolly” by the other engines or “The Old Lady” by TR volunteers is a focused and no nonsense engine. That not to say she is unkind, she’s always happy to advise, or settle arguments among the engines, and will often be the first to volunteer to teach newcomers, she just tends to look at things from a viewpoint of practicality. Due to being the only engine running in the early days of preservation she knows how to make do in even the most difficult of conditions. She won’t stand for waste or excess, often chastising the others for over filled tanks and bunkers. The other engines know her concerns come from a place of love and that they are very lucky to have her on their railway.

This is not pre planned this might be potential bullshit but it's what it is. This will have tal-y-llyn as a female because I refer to her as female more than as male. Also Dolgoch and Captain Baxter are there to celebrate the little old engines birthday
Skarloey was sat in his shed simmering happily, he is 160 today and he was waiting for his surprise. He was excited for his 160th birthday gala, he missed his 150th birthday gala since he was rushed into an emergency overhaul. Skarloey was told that he shouldn't work on his birthday since it was unfair to make someone work on their birthday, he tried to argue with Mr Percival but with a little encouragement from Peter Sam he accepted that he was not working today.
Skarloey was quietly reminiscing over the past 160 years of his life, he was so deep in thought that he didn't realize that Oliver had pulled into the yard at Crovans Gate. He was thinking about the time when he had to rescue Freddie from the crumbling viaduct. Oliver whistled to get Skarloey's attention, once Skarloey snapped out of his thoughts he looked over at Oliver and smiled.
"You must be Skarloey" Oliver spoke, he had never traveled to the Skarloey railway before. "I am indeed Skarloey, and who might you be?" Skarloey asked politely. "I'm Oliver, I'm a great western 1400 tank engine" Oliver said smiling. "Now then I have a delivery for you" Oliver spoke his tone shifting from slightly timid to more relaxed. Skarloey perked up and he looked over at the flatbed that he had brought with him, the flatbed had a box on it.
Skarloey looked back at Oliver and he spoke, "do you know what's in that box on your flatbed Oliver?". " I haven't the slightest, I was told that I had to deliver this to you and that's about it." Oliver spoke. Skarloey frowned slightly as Sir Handel pulled up with the breakdown crane.
Sir Handel began to unload the box from Oliver's flatbed, he was very gentle with it. Skarloey was half expecting there to be a new set of buffers he always got on his birthday. Once Sir Handel had unloaded the box from Oliver's flatbed Oliver had went to shunt the flatbed away. Once Oliver came back the box was slowly opened after skarloey was told to close his eyes.
Sir Handel had let out an audible gasp at what the surprise was, skarloey was instructed to slowly open his eyes. Once his eyes were open enough to see what was in front of him he gasped loudly "Taly! Holy shit it's been ages since I've seen you!" Tal-y-llyn chuckled and smiled at her brother "happy birthday little brother!" Both the twins were talking to one another.
Little did either knew that someone had snuck along, "excuse me am I a ghost to you?" That voice was familiar. Tal-y-llyn turned around and saw her little sister Dolgoch stood at the other end of the yard. "Happy birthday to my older siblings" she said as pulled up and buffered up to Skarloey.
"How'd you get here?" Tal-y-llyn questioned her. "Simple I was on a flatbed that had been delivered by our cousin Captain Baxter" Dolgoch spoke just then their little cousin Captain Baxter pulled in. "Happy birthday to my two favorite cousins" he spoke. The Fletcher Jennings family reunion was complete a few hours later as Rheneas, Smudger and Jennings arrived at Crovans Gate for their older siblings birthday gala.
