I haven't seen anyone really talk about the flowers yet so lets discuss:
Tumblr media
Yuuji's first believes that the flowers he and Sukuna see in his memories are asagao, otherwise known as Japanese morning glories. Let's take a look at what those flowers symbolize in Japan.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Brief love" is probably one of the saddest interpretations of Yuuji thinking they're morning glories. He and Megumi had very little time together, about six months from the beginning of the series to chapter 265 (June to December). They are inarguably the closest to each other and have a deep understanding of each other.
Morning glories also symbolize "a long lasting bond of love".
The bond between Yuuji and Megumi is one of the core relationships in the series. Megumi is pretty much the only character that is at Yuuji's side from beginning to end. He's the one who first tries to save Yuuji due to "personal feelings" and I would argue that he is the one who takes Yuuji's death the hardest after the detention center incident. Megumi is the one who tells Yuuji that it's okay for him to live despite what Sukuna did while in control; to focus on how he'd be protecting Megumi by sticking together post-Shibuya instead of letting his fear of getting Megumi hurt control him.
Let's move on to Sukuna's correction of the flowers in the domain: ajisai, Japanese hydrangeas.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Keep in mind, the reason that Sukuna correctly identifies the flowers is because Megumi recognizes them. Sort of an odd detail for Gege to mention, isn't it? I mean, why wouldn't Sukuna recognize hydrangeas after being alive for hundreds of years? So why the emphasis on Megumi?
"Sadness in terms of how impermanent things can be" is a HEAVY meaning when connected to Megumi. This poor kid has lost almost everything. Nothing has really been a permanent fixture in his life; his home life was bad, his sister was killed, his mentor was killed, and now his best friend is on the brink of being killed.
Chapter 251 shows that Megumi can't find the will to live anymore. He just wants it all to be over and can't find a reason to hope that he'll be saved or forgiven.
"Undying friendships/lasting love" feels very key to the current motives Yuuji has. Megumi has told him to stop fighting to save him, and yet Yuuji persists. His devotion to Megumi is relentless and even though Megumi has given up Yuuji has not. He's determined to save him and follow through with the words Megumi said to him back in 143:

hi rin!! i was wondering if i could request a jjk angst fic? (specifically nanami but you can include whoever you want)
your “when they throw their wedding ring” really hit a nerve so here i am begging for more hahaha (i’m 19 btw!)
BUSY THINKING ABOUT EX HUSBAND!NANAMI
Tumblr media
a/n: is this the place to mention that i also started working on a full nanami angst fic?
Tumblr media
ex husband!nanami who wasn’t happy when you told him that you wanted a divorce, but only sighed before nodding and telling you that he‘ll agree to whatever conditions you give him.
ex husband!nanami who only hesitated once the papers were in front of him, simply needing his signature on them.
ex husband!nanami who tries to rationalize his feelings away and keeps telling himself that you simply were nothing more than a chapter in his book.
ex husband!nanami who seemed to move on so simply, acting like nothing was wrong to begin with and continued to live his life just like he did before — like you were never there to begin with.
ex husband!nanami who only months later realizes how much he regrets not fighting for you harder, how he loathes the cold side of the bed on which you always slept and how he has so much space in his closet now.
ex husband!nanami who realizes that he only felt joy in his chores and errands was because he got to do them with you.
ex husband!nanami who still buys your favorite kind of cereal, fruit and snacks and doesn’t even notice it until he’s unpacking everything at home, putting them away with a heavy heart, because he doesn’t even like them.
ex husband!nanami who refuses to throw away the last pictures, still keeping your wedding portrait in the top drawer of his nightstand.
ex husband!nanami who acts civil and distant whenever someone mentions you, yet tries to change the topic as quickly as possible because talking about you is just too painful.
ex husband!nanami who always keeps his wedding rin in his pocket wherever he goes.
ex husband!nanami who can’t help but think about you every night before he falls asleep, missing the times where you would cuddle him to fall asleep — and now he feels like he can barely sleep without your warmth.
ex husband!nanami who still dreams of you at night, reliving both the happiest and saddest moments during your relationship.
ex husband!nanami who always wakes up drenched in sweat after, with his chest rising and falling rapidly as he stares down on his blanket for minutes with sad eyes.
ex husband!nanami who wants you back desperately but keep his distance seeing that you moved on — silently hoping that maybe one day he can do too.

I feel a factor that largely contributes to the lack of success for self published or ‘unconventional’ authors is the general readers' growing lack of appreciation for literature.
Most readers, and publishers for that matter, now only look at a book's tropes and marketability rather than the actual writing and plot. Tropes were created as something that would help us easily find the perfect read, and yet they've now become something that defines a book.
The saddest part is we've not only lost appreciation for good writing but developed an aversion to literary comprehension.
People now seek to completely cut down on description and 'painting a scene' or character development and jump straight into the action. Prose is now seen as 'boring filler chapters' while the fight--the chase, the action, are highlighted. It's like going to a museum and complaining about how old everything is.
We've become impatient, unappreciative readers who care little for the emotional nuances of a beautifully crafted scene.
The genre that is most heavily impacted by this is romance. Romance used to be such a beautiful, emotionally evocative genre and now it's just watered down to its trope. People use romance as a way to escape from reality and fantasise about fictional men, which is acceptable, sure, but by doing so they've completely forgotten how to appreciate a book and its story.
Have your dark brooding morally grey love interest but also consider what makes him so. Rather than seeking a venereal connection with the character, look for an emotional one with the book and its beautiful prose and writing.
This is also why readers nowadays often complain about 'mainstream' authors not being that talented. This isn't because there aren't any talented authors with beautifully crafted books out there, it's because you're so caught up in a book's tropes and popularity you fail to acknowledge its true beauty, because by doing so you would recognise there are many other, unappreciated, novels that deserve that platform.

TW SUICIDE MENTION
SPOILERS FOR BLACK MYTH WUKONG
I watched a few analysis videos today about certain chapters today, to be honest I spent the whole afternoon crying while listening to music from the game thinking about Wukong..opps. One of the things that hurt the most is chapter 5 where it’s made to look like Bajie & Wukong are the villains but in reality left clues for Bull King but he’s couldn’t decipher them. Even if Wukong kept paying heaven merits and did everything under the sun to keep their approval they still won’t trust him , even after he ‘got rid’ of his title of Buddhahood the golden fillet still remained on his head without him even knowing. To me the saddest part was that ‘technically’ Wukong was killed but he wasn’t , he knew he could never best heaven as long as the fillet remained on his head so rather than being killed he technically committed suicide , because it is the only way for him to be free and to reincarnate a vessel in those 500 years. It just makes me so sad/angry that the Celestial Court/Heaven did this to him to the point he had to do what he did. But it’s not just Wukong , all those others who Heaven have affected but yet they still have no regard nor empathy and simply see certain figures as pawn’s on a game board.

Leon had issues and you understood them. Tied in a world where he couldn't even trust his own government, where bioweapons are a common thing and mistrust is common. Breaking up with an alcoholic with the best option to have. However, when time passes, Chris decides to bring you to help with Leon's current crisis. When he sees you, he is ready to give endless promises now. Seven days to win you back.
notes: fem!reader x leon. leon is drunk, sad, angsty, and needy for reader, codependency relationship; chris is a sweetheart. he wants to help both leon and reader. I don't like this :( idk why. i ramble too much. EDIT! future chapters will have smut

taglist: @scarlettsbullsh
There was small, uncomfortable silence as you were driven to the small vacation place. Rebecca wore a small smile, but Chris could tell that you were uneasy. But you didn't want to give Chris a chance to even speak. What happened in China is still seen, not in complete detail, and not even the same overwhelming emotions. Yet it lingered.
Sure, everything is forgiven because everything has to during a mission, and even you have forgiven Leon. Yet you couldn't forget.
You loved Leon. With your entire body, but he wasn't the man you met back in 1999. Sure, the bitterness of Raccoon City seemed to always mask the smell of the alcohol. Then, being obligated to work for the government. This was stupid. You knew. You knew his issues. You knew why you broke up with him.
It's unfortunate. You were forced to love two different men. A man who wanted to help people and a man who wanted to get rid of the bad. Something in Spain began the trail, and two or so years formed the path. His disappointment of the government increased over and over, but why... why was he willing to point a gun to you and Chris to protect a woman who made their life's worse?-
You shook your head. No. No, don't be stupid.
Your hand began to tremble.
"Are you okay?" Rebecca asked. You simply nodded your head. Your fingers rubbed your gun hand, the knuckles, and soon your palm. A small scar in your hand interrupting the normal lines of your hand.
The car stopped.
When you look at the place... it was like going back to the old house that you once shared with Leon. Two unhealthy people trying to find peace. One found a bottle, and the other found denial. It was truly the saddest thing to remember, but the good things came rushing in. When you and Leon drank from his flask as you two laid on the bed naked. Alcohol made your bolder while Leon looser.
Walking through a couple of halls, Rebecca turned to see you and rubbed your arm, "He misses you." She promised. But you didn't need her promise when all your phone did was buzz over and over with messages belonging to Leon. Slowly and steady, you saw Leon. Nothing really changed from him. He still had his dark brown hair, which made it look worse with his grease. Your heart clenched.
"Leon," You couldn't control your mouth, "Leon..."
Leon turned to see who said his name. Your habits are trying to get better while his are getting worse. At least he wasn't drunk, drunk- he was better than the other days.
He walked towards you and hugged your body tightly. The overwhelming stench of alcohol burned your nose. All the old conversations you had of his issue bloomed again. Your hands trembled as you hugged him back. Leon kissed your neck over and over, dragging you away from Rebecca and Chris.
"I needed you. I'm sorry." Leon muttered softly.
Nothing changed. Nothing at all.
And that was the problem.
Your hands cupped his face, his small stubble of beard barely even growing into a proper beard. "How long?" You asked.
"Three days." Leon responded quickly. His blue eyes met yours, "I... I try." You even recalled the next words as you two reply together, "But sleeping is easier."
Leon turned away, his cheeks had splotches of red skin; he looked unwell. "Don't tell that... this has been every day." Your fingers traced his face lines. The ones in his cheeks, his brows when he furrowed them.
Leon sighed, "Yeah." He hugged you tightly. Little by little, he finally noticed Chris and Rebecca approaching them. He nuzzled his face between your breasts to use as cover. He was already going to start to be pissy. Your hands rubbed his back gently attempting to calm him down.
"I thought you didn't talk anymore." Chris grabbed himself a chair to sit on.
"We do. By text." You explained with a meek voice. Sure, you avoid his: "I want to fuck you so bad." Texts but not the simple hi's or when he comes to bother you.
But never these touches. Though, after dating for thirteen years, you were use to him.
Rebecca sighed softly, "C'mon," She smiled again, "Let's leave them to talk." Leon groaned weakly as he let you go. Rebecca and you left the room. You closed your eyes tightly.
Little by little tears escaped your eyes, "You... you see why we broke up?" You crotched down to your feet, feeling horrible like all those years ago. "A unhealthy relationship," Rebecca whispered softly. She crotched down beside you. "Rebecca, I still love him. I..." You cleaned away your tears. "No matter what I did helped, he didn't get better. I leave, and he is worst-"
"That's not your fault." Rebecca assured you from your codependency with Leon. The trauma of the two you made you stick against bad and good. You would've been with him still if it weren't for Chris.
-
Leon saw you be taken away from his arms. His hand itched to grab his flask once you were taken away. "Enough, Leon." Chris put his hand out, hoping Leon would put his metal flask in his hand.
Leon didn't so Chris yanked it from his hand.
"Leon, I swear," He put the flask on one of his many pockets, "Leon, I need you to listen."
Leon licked his molars, "I'm listening, Chris. Don't have to repeat it over and over." He leaned on his chair, his eyes kept glancing at the door where Rebecca took you away. Chris exhaled deeply, "A mission-" He began.
Leon groaned weakly, "I'm not going to a stupid mission. I'm on vacation." He grabbed the empty glass ready to pour more, but Chris stopped him again.
"A mission," Chris said more firmly, "Isn't a romantic getaway. It's a job. Our job." Chris made sure to keep eye contact. Leon smirked, "I'm with someone. Don't ask me out."
Chris fought the urge to roll his eyes, "Don't start-" He put his hands in front of him, "You and her shouldn't have been placed in missions so early." Chris wanted to be patient with Leon. "What you two suffered, back in Raccoon City. It was very irresponsible to make you feel you needed to save her."
Leon's face tighten. He could already smell Chris's bullshit, "Listen, I asked for her, nobody made me get her." Leon remembered the first time he saw you. You were one of the old military people of Umbrella and got send there among others who. You were like him. A rookie who was just wanted to help people, but the infected ruined your plans.
He wanted you. You understood the world like he did.
That's why you two needed to be together in every mission until two years came along. When you broke up with him, his life changed for the worst, but it didn't seem you two were actually broken up. He always told you where he was. He told you about nightmares.
"But you two ended up hurting yourselves. Jill and I never had this issue-"
Leon rolled his eyes, "I love her." He muttered softly. Every damn day, Leon saw your eyes as the gun was raised against Chris and you. Chris forgave him faster, but you...
Leon's eyes closed, "Every day I think of my bullshit," Leon opened his eyes and looked at his fingerless gloves, "I just want her back."
Chris exhaled deeply, "You need to stop drinking then." He sighed softly. This job made you an addict to whatever gave your comfort. For you and Leon, you two had each other, but Leon held his need to save people and alcohol.
It was fucked. It wasn't fair for either of you.
"She'll think forever that you prefer your dumb flask."
His throat nearly choked on his own spit, Leon's head hung low as a heavy sigh escaped his lips. He loved you so much it hurt. Little by little, tears escaped his eyes.
Slowly dripping down his face, Leon felt even more sick of himself. With his arms around your waist, you gave him a breath of fresh air- you gave him life.

Chapter 55: Flatline
Warnings: references to rape, violence, murder (ish)
Curiously, you woke up without the familiar cage of Kid's arms around you. Stretching out, you could feel that Killer wasn't beside you either. It took a few seconds in your groggy state to notice, but the shower was running and there was a fast-paced rhythmic thumping sound followed by a string of strangled moans. Oh. While this normally would have encouraged you to go join them, you were understandably not interested in sex in the least bit. Physically you were fully healed and, while you could participate in that aspect, mentally you were not there yet.
You thought about waiting for them to finish, though depending on how long they had been in there already, that could take a while. It was also a reminder of something that you didn't want to dwell on, another way you weren't the same person you were several weeks ago. Killer had been thoughtful enough to bring some of your own clothes to the room for you, so you grabbed them and tossed them on. It was a few minutes of fumbling with where the holes were on things and how to figure out if they were right-side-out or not before you could get them on. The shoes weren't as hard as you thought they would be. There wasn't any underwear, which was odd, but he probably just forgot.
You got to the hallway and had to pause, remembering where everything was and trying to imagine spatially where it would be. You didn't get far before there was a wet nose prodding under your arm. Mini slid her head under your hand to guide you to the deck. There were people on deck, you could hear them talking, getting slightly more hushed when they noticed you there. The majority of them hadn't seen you at all since you had been back. The sound of someone running and feeling of arms wrapping around you alerted you to the presence of Quincy.
"Y/N! It's so good to see you out." She squeezed you once and let you go. "How are you doing?"
"Probably better than most would be."
"Yeah... If you need to talk or anything... I mean I'm sure Kid and Killer have it covered but..."
"Thanks, Quincy. I'll..." You were about to brush her off, but it might actually be nice to talk to someone else. "I'll keep that in mind."
She bounded off to complete her duties. You didn't really have anything to do. You didn't even know where you were going. You could go to the infirmary, though it wouldn't do any good to be there. Mini helped you wander around until you found yourself leaning against her, sitting in the skull at the ship's bow. It felt good to walk around, and even better to breathe in the fresh, salted sea air. The sound of the bow cutting through waves was calming. You had a lot of bottled anxiety given your new normal and you hated it. This was the first time in your life that you weren't confident in anything that you did and you were very unsure where you were headed. With the loss of your log pose, you had no way of tracking down the last person on your hit list. If you were lucky, maybe you could torture it out of Warthin. At least you had that to look forward to.
"Mind if I join you?"
The voice made you jump.
"Sorry!"
"For a big guy, you're light on your feet."
There was a faint jingle as the hoops on Heat's belt dinked together when he sat. "I didn't mean to be."
The two of you sat there in silence. You continued to half-meditate, yet there was something prickling at the edge of your mind. It feels like I'm being watched. It was such a strange feeling and it was beginning to unnerve you. At the same time, you thought that you could tell where it was coming from.
"Heat? Are you staring at me?"
"O-oh. I didn't think you could tell." Heat paused. "Wait. How can you tell?"
"I... don't know."
"It's just... you look so sad. I've never seen you like this."
Hearing that, coming from the saddest looking guy to ever do it, made you snort. "Yeah, well, when you've been assaulted and permanently maimed, let's see how well you handle it." You thought about how little you knew of Heat and his scarred smile. In reality, he probably had been through something similar. Maybe that's why he was eternally sad-looking. Maybe you had more in common than you thought. You were instantly guilty. "I didn't mean that. I wasn't thinking." It was silent and you thought he might have left.
He laughed, despite what you thought was a fairly mean attack. "Now I know you aren't doing well. You? Apologizing for being mean?"
That made the ghost of a smile appear on your face.
Heat rested a reassuring hand on your knee. "I like it when you're mean to me anyway."
You were grateful for Heat trying to make it seem like a normal day even though your comment probably did wound him deep down.
"It won't be permanent." Heat scooted next to you and put his arm around your shoulders, resting his head on yours and giving you a side hug. "Kid is going to fix you up, just like he did for me. Maybe he'll even give you an upgrade, too."
"I hope it's not fire breath or one of us will have to leave," you deadpanned.
"That's the Y/N we know and love." Heat ruffled the hair at the top of your head and patted it before getting up. He did have other duties to attend, but he wanted to check on you first. "And then when you feel up to it, you can try to fix the other one with your devil fruit."
"I already tried." A frown settled on your face. "I can't make something from nothing."
Heat was confused by this. "What do you mean 'from nothing'?"
"I need at least a part of something to restore the rest of it. I can't create something out of thin air." You sighed. You really didn't want to be thinking about this, which is why you came out here in the first place. "And that eye is long gone by now." It had been over a week since Warthin had gouged it out of you and who knows what happened to it afterwards.
Now Heat understood. You didn't even know they had your eye. He told Killer that he thought it was a bad idea to keep that from you, but obviously he didn't listen. "Y/N... " Heat tore his eyes away from you. He wouldn't be able to tell you if he watched your face.
You gave him a puzzled look.
His face was one of concern and perhaps regret. He was silent.
"Heat?" You prompted, suspicion evident in your voice.
He didn't want to get Killer in trouble like this, though he did make it clear he thought it was wrong to keep your eye from you.
"Heat, tell me," This time your tone was serious. It left no room for him to back out of whatever he was trying to tell you.
"Please don't get angry." He knew those words would have no hold over you.
Your heart sunk, knowing whatever he was about to say was most assuredly, going to make you angry.
Perspiration broke out on Heat's skin after seeing the dark change in your expression. He couldn't backtrack now. And he couldn't lie to you. Maybe he could frame it in a positive way to soften the blow. "It's actually good news when you think about it-"
"HEAT, JUST FUCKING TELL ME." The anxiety of what he had to say was eating at you and you could already feel your temper flaring.
"Your eye is fine. It's here. We have it."
"What?" Venom dripped from your voice and you stood up.
Heat backed up a step as you walked towards him. "Warthin sent it to us along with the video transponder snail."
"So you've had it this entire time," your voice cracked as it boiled with anger, "and you all let me think I would never see again."
"That would never be true, even if it really was gone. Kid can fix anything."
"So that's it? He kept it from me so that he could make me completely dependent on him? Held it hostage so that he could be a knight in shining armor huh?"
"No! Killer thought-"
"Killer!?" Kid had done some stupid stuff before that made you mad, but Killer had really never done anything that hurt you. It was hard to believe that Killer could do something so cruel.
"He thought it would be best to wait until you could heal. He was worried that you would fuck up your eye if you tried to mess with it too soon!"
"That is not a choice that he gets to make." You stepped to Heat until your chest was flush with his body. "Do you know what was the most traumatic thing for me?" You paused. "It wasn't being force fed every day. It wasn't getting beaten. It wasn't having a permanent brand carved into my skin. It wasn't being raped over and over and over again, not even when it was broadcasted, not even when it was multiple people, and not even when a fucking beer bottle was shoved up my cunt. It was getting my fucking eye ripped out and wondering if the last  memory I had of Kid would be him getting shot in the head, wondering if he was alive or not. Or if all my memories of Killer would slowly be replaced by the last face I saw, the face of someone I despise. I was more worried about what you would all think of me if you found me than if you were actually coming at all. What would I be without my eyes? What worth would I have? And the whole time I've been back, I've been stuck in an endless loop of these fears. I have been tormented every fucking second of every fucking day that once you all realized that I was useless, the only reason to keep me here would be to fuck me, because that's about all the worth I have right now. And even then, why would you want to, after seeing what he did to me?"
You shoved Heat aside in your anger and made a furious beeline back to Kid's cabin. Your throat was pained from yelling and the way the air was cold against your cheeks made it known to you that tears were streaming down them. It was unknown if it was your ominous aura that kept people out of your way, or the haki you didn't even know you possessed leading you in a clear path. Even in your rage, you didn't want to harm either one of them. That was the shitty part about catching feelings. It made you soft. Before, you wouldn't hesitate to start swinging. That didn't mean you weren't going to go apeshit though. You kicked the cabin door open so hard you could hear the frame splinter.
"WHAT THE FUCK, ROTTEN?"
"SHUT UP, KID!" You and Kid were both shocked at how vicious you sounded. You could sense Killer somewhere in the room, taking a millisecond to locate him. You pointed at him. "GIVE ME MY FUCKING EYE!
"Y/N-"
"And don't say a fucking word because I don't want to hear anything you have to say right now!" You were livid and it bled through in your voice the way it cracked and was slightly raspy from screaming.
This was a complete betrayal. How could they do this to you and claim they loved you? You cried in their arms and bared your heart to them. They knew how much torment you had endured and all the fears that seeped into your mind. They consoled you and reassured you that you would see again, all while having the ability to do so right that instant, yet still withholding that information. How could they have been extending your anguish purposefully like that? It was not an accident or a misunderstanding. It was a deliberate choice to keep you from seeing. The heart you bared to them, that loved them, that only kept beating for them, they held it in their hands and crushed it.
Killer silently led you to the infirmary, where he had placed the jar with your eye in it on one of the highest shelves. He could almost imagine a hole burning through his chest with the way you were projecting vitriol towards him. He could feel it flowing freely from you. He could hear it in your heated breaths as you followed him. Killer knew there was a possibility that you would be pissed. He didn't think you would be this mad. He expected to be yelled at. The way you were completely silent after you had screamed at him was unsettling. He wanted you to say something, even if it was just more yelling. His own heart was sinking, realizing that this might have been the wrong call.
Kid followed the both of you, also freaked out by the way you lit into him and were now clearly brimming with wrath. Part of him was there to back up Killer, and by how unpredictable you were being, he didn't know if that meant physically or with words, or emotionally. He could see from behind you, how tightly your fists were clenched, and the short moments where your devil fruit flickered to life within them. The hair on Kid's neck stood on end as he realized that he and Killer were within an arm's reach and could peel their skin off with a simple touch, if you really wanted to. It looked like you were fighting to contain it.
You heard the sound of glass sliding on the counter to rest in front of you. After making sure your hands were clean, you felt around in the jar until something slimy bumped your hand. Scooping it out, you held it, feeling around for the various attachments it should have. There was no foul stench from the jar. That was a decent sign that your eye hadn't decayed yet. The harsh smell of formalin burned the inside of your nose and throat instead. The tissue was dead, but preserved. You could work with that. It was heavier than you thought it would be, as you ran water over it. If you put it back in as is, the formalin would give you a chemical burn on the inside of your skull, which may actually be preferable to whatever you were feeling currently.
Taking a deep breath you tilted your head back, separating the eyelids on the left and dangling your eye above the opening. You lowered it back into its original setting, using your devil fruit to part the newly forming scar tissue that had filled the empty space your eye's absence had left behind. Your power worked at the neural tissue, reforming bonds with the nerves in your eye. The foreign feeling of your brain being altered made you lightheaded and ill. As the nerves in your eye made connections, light, without color or shape, became visible to you. It was like someone was shining a light through fog. Your breath caught in your throat with hope. You were afraid to breathe until it was done. Shape came next, in the form of blobs in varying shapes of gray. Tinges of color crept into the blobs and they began to sharpen. The colors became more saturated and the blobs turned into more recognizable shapes. The readjustment for your brain made it ache. Vision was not unfamiliar to it. The portions used for vision had begun to be allocated to other functions, so reversing that did take time. It was a soreness akin to using a muscle that hadn't been used in a long time. When the shapes became clear and the color had fully returned, it was still slightly off. Holding your hand in front of you, it looked sideways even though you knew it was straight. You rotated your eye in its socket until everything was going in the right direction, then you healed the musculature around the orb, securing it in place and making it able to move. You could let your breath out. You made several slow blinks, moistening the long-dry eye. You could see.
You turned cautiously, stopping, unsure if you wanted to look at either of them right now. Continuing the turn, part of you was relieved and you wanted to cry tears of joy that you could see again, that you could see them again. The other part of you was utterly mangled, seething, unwilling to give them the time of day. Your newly restored vision only settled on each of them for a millisecond before you breezed past them, yanking Kid's pistol from his belt as you did so. Whatever they said to you as you went, you didn't hear it and you didn't care to. Right now, even though you wanted to really let them have it, you didn't want to say something you would regret. The feelings you had for them held you back. The same feelings are what made you so livid in the first place. If you didn't love them, their actions wouldn't have hurt you this badly.
So you would do the next best thing, take it out on someone who really deserved it.
Mini followed closely behind you as you stormed out on deck and down into the bottom level of the ship. The bubbling anger that was roiling within you was laced with a certain malicious giddiness. Finally. Finally, you were going to give that sick piece of human garbage what he earned. The sound of several heavy footsteps followed you. You ignored them. When you slipped into the ship's dungeon, you slammed the door behind you and sealed it with your devil fruit. The heavy footsteps stopped at the door for a time, and eventually walked away.
You turned your attention to the man at the far end of the room, one you would never mistake for another. Your steps were solid and intentional as you stalked towards him. His eyelids were sewn open and he was swollen with joints at unnatural angles. In spite of your hostility towards them, you couldn't help but feel your lips tug up in a smile at what was surely Kid and Killer's work. It was incredibly satisfying to see Warthin sagging in pain. He recoiled at the sight of you, appearing as if he was trying to disappear into the wall behind him. You raised the pistol as you neared, firing one shot into his abdomen, reloading, and doing the same thing, then again, and again, until you had one bullet left. With that one, you ended your walk by pressing the barrel into his eye. You cocked it, letting him get a good look at the person who was going to end him.
And pulled the trigger.

Elbert Greetia: Chapter 1
The sound of lapping waves fills the quiet room where I pierce a butterfly's back with a needle.
––Another beautiful thing acquired.
I gaze, as if in prayer, at the vivid scales of the butterfly, its wings spread wide within a frame.
With this, surely, the "two of us" can be happy.
Surely, surely––
-
One night and then another has passed since I witnessed a sight I shouldn't have in midnight London.
Though I escaped death by fulfilling my duty as a "Fairytale Keeper," time has passed without any sense of reality, and once again, I find myself in the darkness of night.
––I am about to accompany Crown on a mission for the first time.
-
Roger: Is the inn around the next corner the one in question?
Alfons: According to the information we received beforehand, yes.
Elbert: .......
Roger, Alfons, and Lord Elbert---
I was walking through London, shrouded in night, with my three companions.
Kate: A certain inn is being used as a temporary storage for stolen art... right?
As a "Fairytale Keeper," my role is to closely observe the actions of Crown, who is "cursed," and record their sins.
(I want to fulfill my duties properly, gain their trust, and be released.)
(My heart hasn't caught up yet... but I have to try.)
Roger: Lil lady, don't be so stiff.
Alfons: We're just going to investigate the situation, so there won't be any bloodshed.
... I'm sure of it.
Elbert: ..........
Kate: Thank you for your concern, Roger, Alfons.
(That's right... if my job is to record the sins of the "cursed," I need to know about their "curse.")
Kate: May I ask what kind of "curse" you all have...?
Alfons: Hehe, Miss Robin is quite the eager learner.
Alfons: Lord Elbert is the "Greedy Queen," Roger is the "Betrayer's Huntsman," and I am cursed by the "Mirror."
Kate: Queen, Huntsman, Mirror...
Alfons: Is it fate that those who appear in the same fairy tale should meet?
Roger: Haha. Team Snow White, eh?
Alfons: I find it very unpleasant to be lumped in with you.
Roger: Don't say that. Right, lil lady?
Kate: A-ahaha. Yes...
The two of them speak to me in a friendly manner.
I'm grateful for their kindness, but I can't help but force a smile.
(It's a fact that these people commit sins on a daily basis...)
(No matter what, I'm scared to look them in the eye and talk)
Elbert: ...What's wrong?
Kate: ...Huh?
Elbert: You stopped walking.
Lord Elbert's words made me realize that I had unknowingly created distance between myself and the others.
Except for Lord Elbert, who stopped for me, the other two kept walking ahead.
Elbert: ...Are you alright?
Kate: I'm sorry, I was spacing out...! I was lost in thought.
Elbert: I see. ...Be careful not to get lost.
Just as I was about to start walking again--
Elbert: ....!
A passerby bumped into Elbert.
Drunk Man: Hmm? What's this? A pretty boy, huh?
The man, barely able to stand upright, was clearly drunk.
Elbert: ........
Drunk Man: Let's have a drink, pretty boy. Your treat. Hahahaha!
Elbert: ...I'm sorry. I'm in a hurry.
Drunk Man: Oh? What's this? You wanna get that pretty face messed up?
Elbert was surprisingly unresisting as the drunk man clung to him.
(Something seems rather ominous...should I call Roger and Alfons back?)
Kate: U-Um...!
The next moment, anxiety and questions swirled in my head.
Drunk Man: Ugh...sob...why did you leave me...Eliza...sob...
Kate: ...Huh?
The man who was clinging to Elbert suddenly collapsed on the spot, crying.
(Why all of a sudden...?)
Alfons: What a ridiculous ability, as always.
Alfons, who had somehow turned back, approached Elbert and laughed, looking highly amused.
Kate: A ridiculous ability...you mean, Lord Elbert's?
Alfons: Yes. It awakens the saddest memories of the person whose shadow he steps on.
Alfons: In other words, it makes the person incredibly depressed and downcast.
Roger: The ability works better on people with painful experiences, but the difficulty lies in choosing the right target.
Kate: Downcast...
I stared at the man who still couldn't stand up, just crying on the roadside like a child.
(This is Lord Elbert's power.)
Having just witnessed William's devastating power that could force people to commit suicide, it seemed like a very small power.
But--.
Elbert: ...I'm in a hurry. ...I'm sorry.
Elbert, who had used that seemingly trivial power on the drunk man, looked sad, as if he had committed some cruel sin.
(...That's a bit unexpected.)
(I wonder if the cursed people aren't used to using their powers either.)
Elbert: ...Let's go.
As we passed each other, Elbert's hair gleamed under the streetlights.
I was unconsciously captivated by his golden hair flowing in the night breeze and his melancholic profile.
(...What a beautiful person.)
His beauty was so overwhelming that I momentarily forgot the fear I had for the upcoming mission.
Alfons: Now, it was the alley ahead, wasn't it? The inn we were aiming for.
Elbert: Yes.
It was Roger who tilted his head, looking at the dimly lit alley.
Roger: Something's strange. It should have been a cheap inn with quite a few guests.
Roger: ...There's only one heartbeat.
Kate: A heartbeat...?
Even if I strain my ears, all I can hear is the faint sound of the wind.
Alfons: Exceptional hearing is this man's ability.
Roger: Within a distance of about 100 yards, I can accurately tell who is where without even looking.
Kate: That's amazing... But does that mean there's only one person at the inn?
Roger: Well, that's what it comes down to.
Kate: How could that be...?
Alfons: There's only one way to find out.
As we turned the corner into the alley where the back entrance of the inn was located--
(...!!)
--a gruesome scene unfolded before us.
Several blood-soaked people were lying in the alley.
A vast expanse of blood stretched across the hallway, visible through the open back door of the inn.
Kate: ...Ah--
My instincts were screaming at me to run away.
But my feet were frozen in place, as if glued to the ground.
At that moment--
I was pulled back forcefully, and the blood-stained scene vanished.
Kate: ...!?
Tumblr media
My cheek was pressed against a soft, high-quality fabric.
(A blue cravat.)
Kate: Lord Elbert...?
I finally realized Elbert was holding me and tried to look up, but his hand was stronger, restraining my movement.
Elbert: ––You don't need to see.
(Huh...?)
Elbert: ...Sad memories can easily kill you.
Elbert: You don't need to see.
A terribly sad voice whispered in my ear.
Elbert: You...have nothing to do with what's happening here.
Elbert: ...You don't have to carry burdens that you don't need to.
(Elbert...)
His voice was almost like a prayer.
I should be feeling protected by his arms, holding my head tightly, but for some reason, I felt like I was being clung to, and I hesitated to resist.
(Elbert...it's as if he's afraid of something.)
Roger: This is...the inn's employee and a guest.
Alfons: Judging by their clothes, there's no mistake.
As I listened to the two of them surveying the scene, still held in Elbert's embrace--
???: ...Ugh...sob...
(! A voice just now...!)
Roger's words, "There's only one heartbeat," came back to me.
Kate: E-Excuse me...!
Elbert: ....!
I instinctively pushed back against Elbert's chest and looked up.
As I glanced around, I could see a woman collapsed at the corner of the alley, faintly moving.
(It's her...!)
Kate: Are you alright...!?
Roger: She's not dead yet, but she's in danger.
Roger, who had rushed to her before me, frowned and coughed.
Roger: She needs immediate treatment. We need to get her to a nearby hospital--
Roger: .....!
Kate: Roger? What's wrong?
Roger: The police are coming. Two...no, three of them.
(Police...?)
Alfons: Then, there's no point in staying here. Let's get out of here.
(What!? )
Kate: What about this woman--?
Roger: Our mission is confidential. We have no choice but to hide for now.
Seeing his frustrated profile, I knew Roger didn't want this either, and I swallowed my protest.
(But what if the police don't notice her...?)
I quickly took out my handkerchief and hooked it onto the lamp directly above her.
(This shouldn't be enough to identify me. I hope they notice her soon...)
Praying for her safety, I followed the three of them into hiding.
-
After observing from a short distance for a while--
We saw the woman from earlier being quickly taken away by the police who had arrived.
Kate: ...Thank goodness...
(...I hope she's alright.)
Elbert: ..............
-
--That day's investigation had to be cut short, and we returned to the castle.
But I couldn't eat the food brought to my room, nor could I sleep...
To change my mood, I was walking alone in the vast garden.
(Tonight, I only witnessed the aftermath of someone committing a crime.)
(But someday, I might see such a scene created by the hands of Crown.)
(To write about that... Can I do it?)
While thinking about such things, I was walking along the path--
(...Elbert?)
I found Elbert, gazing absentmindedly at the flowers.
Bathed in the faint moonlight like a veil, his figure was like a painting, and I was once again captivated.
Elbert: Hmm...oh...it's you. Good evening.
Kate: Good evening, Lord Elbert...
Elbert seemed to sense something from my face and tilted his head melancholically.
Elbert: ...Can't sleep?
Kate: ...Yes. So I'm taking a walk to change my mood.
Elbert: I see...
Kate: What are you doing here, Lord Elbert?
Elbert: Me too...something like that. I'm a light sleeper by nature.
Kate: I see...
Elbert: So...I can at least keep you company while you can't sleep.
Kate: .......!
His gentle, comforting words eased my mind.
(If it were last night, I might have been wary of this kindness and declined...)
Kate: ...Thank you.
Aware of my fading wariness, I took a step closer to Elbert.
(That's right...I haven't properly thanked him for earlier.)
Kate: Thank you for protecting me earlier.
Elbert: ...No. ...In the end, I showed you a cruel sight.
Kate: I wanted to see it. Don't worry about it.
I tried to sound cheerful, but Elbert looked at me and narrowed his eyes as if in pain.
Elbert: If you hadn't been taken to that place...you wouldn't have tried to see it.
Elbert: You're different from us. ...You shouldn't have come here.
Elbert: ...Sin doesn't suit you.
Elbert's emotions don't show much on the surface. Even so...
In his eyes, like the depths of a deep sea, I could see pure compassion, without a trace of cloudiness.
(You are the one who doesn't suit sin.)
At that time--
Even though there were no knives or bullets pointed at me, and there was no danger to my life, he tried to protect me.
(Surely...so that my heart wouldn't be hurt by the cruel sight.)
(The strength of his arms at that time.)
(It was as if he was afraid of me getting hurt.)
(If he were someone who felt nothing about that scene, he surely wouldn't have done that.)
I realized again the obvious fact that the people of Crown, just like me, feel fear, anxiety, and sadness.
Kate: You're kind, Lord Elbert.
Elbert: ...That's not true.
To value people's feelings. That was my goal in life.
(I chose the job of a mail carrier for that reason.)
(No matter what sins Elbert and the others may commit, I want to understand their feelings and--)
Kate: ...Thank you for your concern.
Kate: But this time, you don't have to protect me.
Elbert: ...Why?
Kate: I may learn many things that I'd be happier not knowing.
Kate: But I want to know...what you all are thinking, as you face those things.
I smiled, wanting to respond to Elbert's kindness in some way--
Elbert: .............
Elbert stared at me without blinking.
(...?)
His gaze was unusually intense, and I suddenly felt uneasy.
(Oh...was it rude of me to say "you don't have to protect me" when he's worried about me?)
His already overwhelming beauty seemed to become even more intimidating when he fell silent, and I unconsciously held my breath.
Kate: Um...
Elbert: ...Stay still.
Suddenly closing the distance between us, Elbert gently stroked my hair.
Elbert: ...There was a flower petal in your hair.
Kate: ...Oh.
Kate: Thank you...
(...I see. He was just looking at the flower petal.)
(That's good...)
Calming my racing heart, I quietly moved away from Elbert.
Kate: Well then, excuse me. I should get some sleep for tomorrow.
Elbert: .........Can you sleep?
Kate: Yes, thanks to you, Lord Elbert.
Elbert: I see...that's good.
Elbert: ...Good night, Kate.
Kate: Good night, Lord Elbert.
(...I wonder why.)
(I can't get Elbert's gaze from earlier out of my head...)
His deep blue eyes were burned into the back of my eyelids.
Even after I turned away, it felt like his gaze was following me from behind--
My chest felt strangely uneasy.
-
The next morning, my steps towards the dining hall were lighter than yesterday.
Kate: Good morning.
William: Good morning. ...You look well this morning.
Roger: See? She came, didn't she?
Alfons: I guess I lost the bet.
Kate: W-Were you betting on that...?
Alfons: Yes. I bet that you would be tearing up curtains and tying them together to escape through the window by now.
(He thought I'd be escaping...)
Liam: This morning, we have Victor's special extra buttery scones! Kate, are you hungry?
Kate: Yes! I missed dinner yesterday, so I'm starving.
Alfons: Hehe, you're surprisingly resilient.
(I'm still a little nervous...but I think I can manage.)
This morning, after deciding to face their feelings, I was able to look at everyone's faces more directly than yesterday.
As I started eating, talking with everyone, Elbert stared at me intently.
Elbert: ...Al, is she beautiful?
Alfons: No, not at all?
Elbert: ..............Is that so?
Alfons: ...........
Alfons: This could be a bit...troublesome.

To my Darling...Thankyou and we miss you.
Tumblr media
To many people today is just another ordinary day. To Elvis fans? It's the saddest day of the year(at least for me). It's so hard to act like you're fine. Or to try and get people to understand....because they don't. Elvis Presley, our boy. Our baby. Our man. Died today on August 16th 1977. 47 years this year. And yet it feels like I was there the day it happened just a few days ago. 42 was too young. I literally haven't been able to profess his passing all month. I've avoided it. It makes me so sad I can't even describe it. I can't even describe my love. My adoration. My overall feelings for this man. It's beyond comprehension and beyond my vocabulary capacity. To me Elvis is so much more than an entertainer. A musician. The greatest singer of all time. An actor. To me Elvis Presley is one of the kindest, most generous, beautiful, purest, gentleist, humorous, spiritual and loyal souls I have ever known/heard of. (I know I didn't know him but it feels like I did) He is so important to me. I have no words for how much I love him and how much he means to me. Nor how much sadness and pain this day brings my soul. Elvis has been there in both the happy and sad times. I've felt him here and there. I know he watches over me. He's with me everywhere I go. I can't describe the immense pain and sadness I feel when I think of this time. I try to avoid it. I listened to Gingers audiobook recently on her memoir and when it got to the last chapter of how she saw him that morning...I stopped it. I won't listen to it. Any video I come across of his funeral, or the news report of that day I skip. Even the audio recording of Vernon talking about Elvis after he died and thanking all the fans for their support I can't watch/listen to. It just makes me too emotional. And I love watching his concerts but the one on June 26th 1977 makes me cry every single damn time. I can't help it. I see him and knowing that's the last time we were ever going to see him alive and the fact it's his last concert makes me so sad. Knowing he was actually trying to better himself and talking to Billy Smith about getting better and how he was excited to go on tour and his wedding plans with Ginger...it all makes me heartbroken. Not to mention he left behind his beautiful 9 year old daughter. I just can't. Anyway. I'm sure I could have written this better but this is my honest thoughts and feelings.
So Thankyou so much baby. For everything. Thankyou for being with me in the good and bad times. I love you baby so much. You have my whole heart forever and always. Thankyou for all you did for us. We will always love you and always be grateful for everything you did. You're an inspiration to generations. You never thought you'd be here. Remembered this long down the track. But guess what? You did it baby. I love you so much.
❤️❤️❤️❤️
