what a show. and what a way to end the first season! as a hardcore insane percy jackson stan till i die, here’s my thoughts if you would like them:

FIRST OF ALL. the whole show: loved it. very little to critique in my opinion! i know not everyone is happy with everything, but personally i think it’s one of the best adaptations i’ve ever seen. it’s mostly faithful to the books, and the changes that were made i think were improvements and made a lot of sense.

rick wrote the first percy jackson book so long ago, this show felt like his way of being able to go back and change bits and edit the story to something that’s even better. that’s how i see the show!

LETS TALK CAST: it was fuckin perfection okay, i will fight anyone on this point. walker as percy has changed my fuckin life. his little emotional eyes in every single scene, showing so much depth to all of the dialogue, and giving the best vibes. the humour, the desperation, the self sacrifice. he is PERCY and i am so incredibly in love.

as for annabeth and grover, PERFECTION ALSO. leah slayed annabeth so hard, the little eye brow quirks, the way she was able to portray annabeth as extremely smart and logical, but not heartless, and certainly not cold. she brought such a warmth to the character and i am obsessed.

aryan as grover is just chefs kiss. from the satyr walk, to the one liners, to the uneasiness and resilience grover has, aryan has it down. i just loved him and I CANNOT WAIT TO SEE THE HIM FLOURISH IN THE (hopeful) NEXT SEASON!

the whole cast was amazing. i loved all the choices. it all just felt so right. from the cast, to the set, to the fights, to the cgi. i’m just in love okay.

LUKE AT THE END HAD ME BAWLING. the tears in his eyes, the way he begged percy to join the cause, the hurt when he sees annabeth. FUCK ME I NEED A MOMENT OKAY.

the parallels that are being set up throughout the show for luke and percy are wonderful, i cannot wait to see how it continues. i thought it was just so cohesive and the characters feel so real.

i love how they have set it up for the next season! it’s like it’s ready to go, it’s RIGHT THERE and i want it it so bad so LETS GET MANIFESTING FOR ALL 5 SEASONS FRIENDS ITS TIME!!!

and i have to mention my love of percy/annabeth or percabeth. it’s not the whole point of the story i know, but it is something that is very special to me. i love my little sea boy and clever girlie together, and this show has set them up so beautifully. it’s given them time to have a friendship, to build trust, but also the little looks they give eachother, the pining that we can see will eventually build. IT MAKES MY FUCKIN HEART SING OKAY walker and leah slayed too hard on that front. they understood the assignment.

i could go on about this show and percy jackson in general forever. but i shall end this here because i feel like i need to go cry for a few hours lol.

in conclusion, and this will sound dramatic but i mean every word of this. this show fucking saved me right now. percy jackson is so incredibly important to me, it’s my biggest special interest, it’s shaped me for a decade, it’s my comfort, it’s my everything. i’m currently dealing with a tumour in my head at 22, and my mental health and life is crumbling around me, but this show and percy jackson and rick riordan has kept me here for the last 7 weeks and previously years before that. i owe my life to rick riordan. i will never be able to express my love for this enough.

When I started shipping them:

Back when I first read the manga, when I reached chapters 111 to 113. Man, I was hooked. Their young selves did something irreversible to me lmao, and then Uta hit me with the old tattoo meaning and I was Gone.

It was in 2014, iirc. I started TG when it was over but before :re was published (by the time i was finished, :re was 7 chapters in, very precisely xD i remember bc it's the chapter Nishiki calls Haise Kaneki)

My thoughts:

I've talked about this extensively in the past but yeah their friendship is insanely important to me. The way they go on about "you're my friend" it makes me bonkers. They are the definition of what relationships should be, in my book. Friendship first and foremost and above all, for better or worse. They are The QPP™. Absolutely legendary. First ship to make me so gone. I often say Percabeth was my first OTP but nothing consumed me quite like Utaren did before they did. They're my OTQP? I guess? xD

What makes me happy about them:

Yeah, their friendship. How ride or die they are about each other. Able to rip each other to shreds but will also risk their lives to save the other. How accepting Renji is of Uta's clownship (before it threatens Touka lmao). The unconditional love. The brutality of it.

What makes me sad about them:

"Nec possum tecum uiuere nec sine te". doesn't make me sad per se but ouch anyway. The abandonment Uta felt when Renji left. The intricate knowledge Uta has that he can't be by his side but they can't be apart either - to the point of getting it tattooed. On his fucking neck.

Things done in fanfic that annoys me:

Making it sexual. I don't read much TG fanfics these days (or at least not new ones. i reread my favs instead) so idk what's the trend regarding them but back then I never liked them smut. Feels unnatural.

Also once I read a fic in which one said "ily" to the other (they were in a relationship already) and the other got up and left and they broke up??? What's up with that. I genuinely don't get why saying ily to your boyfriend would make him leave?? isn't that why you're dating?? Anyway.

Things I look for in fanfic:

4th ward era. "graphic depiction of violence" is always welcome.

My unpopular opinion about this character:

Depends on unpopular where. If it's in the entire western sk8 fandom, the unpopular opinion would be ADAM is absolutely amazing both character-wise and person-wise. He's the best and he deserves so much love.

If we're talking ADAM fandom, it would be that He Is Not A Slut. He is the very opposite of that.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon:

I wish Cherry would apologize to him. I wish he'd managed to kill Reki. I wish we would know more of his past, especially regarding Kiriko. That's three things. Who cares.

Favorite friendship for this character:

With Tadashi, as kids. With Joe and Cherry, as teens. With Langa (and with Kiriko in my dreams), as adults.

Percabeth’s Apartment Things Part #6

Sally Edition !!

Percy has a stack of many of his mom’s recipes on handwritten cards. Sally went through and picked out Percy’s favorite ones, then took the time to hand write them in big, neat lettering, to try to make it a little easier for her son to read with his dyslexia.

Percy notices he has a lot more stuff than Annabeth. Percy has never had much money and he isn’t materialistic, but he grew up with a decent amount of clothes, posters on his walls, little trinkets, etc. He realizes that she never quite stopped thinking she might have to start living out of a backpack again, and the most space she is used to having is her bunk at camp. She was excited to buy decorations and furniture, but she is so hesitant to buy little things for herself that aren’t extremely essential. Percy mentions it to his mom and Sally immediately offers to take Annabeth shopping. She has Annabeth try on clothes and won’t take “But I already have one pair of shoes.” or “There’s only one hole in my jeans, I’ll wait until it rips more” for an answer. “They’re on sale, dear, we’re buying them.” And Sally starts bringing over little gifts for Annabeth frequently. “Oh I just had to buy this candle for you, it smells so good, and look at the wax color.” Sally tells her winking (because of course she knows Annabeth’s favorite color in the world is Percy’s eyes). “Here Percy I bought you some socks, and here Annabeth, just look at the little owls on these ones!” “You didn’t have to do that, Sally, really.” “Don’t be silly, they were buy one get one free anyway.” “Mom, why does she get fun ones? Mine are just blue.” “Fine, Percy, I will buy you the sparkly mermaid pack next time. Is that what you want?”

Sally is constantly reminding Percy that Annabeth is not his mother and he should not expect her to cook and clean for him (just like she taught him to walk her to the door on dates!!) Annabeth laughs because of course Percy doesn’t do any of that, while Percy is just “Mom, I know. Mom, I think I know how to keep myself alive!”

Percy visits his Mom extremely frequently. If he isn’t in New York, near daily iris messages. While in New York, if, Percy is home late it is because he pretended Sally’s apartment was on the way back from work or school and just hangs out there for a while with Sally and Estelle. Annabeth will stop by for lunch or to “work” (but really just talk to Sally) in between classes. Both of them just find every excuse to casually be with Sally and Estelle, and they don’t usually tell the other they are there. After months of this, they’re schedules overlap and Percy walks in to have his quality Mom time, only to find Annabeth curled up with a cup of tea. “What are you doing here, Annabeth?  I thought you had a meeting?” “Uhh, it ended early. Don’t you have class on Tuesday afternoons?” “The teacher is sick. So do you come here a lot?” “Oh just sometimes. Like most Tuesdays. Sometimes when you play basketball on Thursday. Okay, every Thursday.” “So, you just hang out here twice a week?” “Maybe, but, uhh, how often do you come?” “Only you know-“ “Would both of you stop acting ridiculous? It’s not like you’re cheating on each other with me. Both of you spend an insane amount of time here for 21 year olds, and I love it, my dears. But get a grip and just come here together!”

Sally checking in with Annabeth on Percy’s mental health. Is he sleeping? How bad are the nightmares? Will he get dressed in the mornings? I know I write happy Percy mostly, but this boy is a major depression risk and even a suicide risk at times.

It gets to the point where Sally doesn’t even have to bring Estelle over with any toys, clothes, food, etc. because Percabeth’s apartment is fully prepared for an Estelle hangout anytime, all the time (Percabeth and Estelle post in progress and coming soon, I promise!!)

Final Judgement: It’s a great and accurate adaptation of a children’s book that raised a lot of kids, and it still has good music and makes it’s own jokes while staying true to the source material.

omg miss lizzie not you calling it just vibes after delivering SUCH a well crafted continuation with perfect characterization like !!!! you rlly outdid yourself w the pacing this time too--it can be so hard to follow up a cliffhanger like that but going back to the time percy entirely let his rage out by resorting to bloodbending was such a smart decision. also adored the metaphor implied in the imagery of luke being the one to shove akhlys in and then failing first before literally stabbing her in the back.

and percabeth...the integration of the climax into the first productively honest communication theyve had in a while was so good. the part where annabeth meets percy's eyes and he nods is something that can b so potent !!!!! when percy clutched her to him after akhlys almost killed them and said he doesnt want to die for him i did sob like THAT is a culmination of the aspect of the character arc that involves meeting the ghost co-inhabiting the shell of war and self destruction w you and figuring out how to cease being a haunting and start being a person .. when i say i love how you write percy fr !!!! im sorry this ended up so long w just me listing things i loved about the chapter without any intelligent commentary but it really did floor me lol also apologies if my tone is overfamiliar just need to let you know the new chapter is so /insanely/ good and ty for the update !!!!!

• Aang was lovable and sweet and passionate from episode one, and I loved his relationship with the others. Also, I felt for this twelve year old boy who had the wight of the world on his shoulders. Literally.

• Percy, but I don’t think that surprises anyone. I have a type that I love, and I’m pretty sure you’ve guessed it by now. But this little shit was such a goof. I don’t know how much sarcasm got packed into this kid, but I fell in love with him the first chapter of the first book. It was immediate.

the character you never expected to love so much:

• Damian, probably. Holy shit, I could not understand this kid when I first got into the fandom. To me, he was this kid I couldn’t seem to find common ground with. It was a rocky start, for sure. But then I read Batman and Robin (aka Dick’s run as Batman with Damian as Robin) and slowly but surely this ten year old boy wormed his way into my heart. He was just a kid looking for a place to belong, and he found that place as Dick’s partner. He’s super misunderstood, I came to learn, and now I can’t imagine not loving Damian.

• Sokka, actually, which is really weird. I liked Sokka well enough back while the show was still going, but it didn’t really go much farther than that. After a recent rewatch of the series, I’ve gained a whole new perspective on Sokka and what he contributes to the team. He’s the comic relief, yeah, but he’s also so much more.

• Nico. Bless this poor kid’s heart. He’s been through so much, and he gets pretty much nothing in return. He’s what? Thirteen at the end of the Heroes of Olympus? He’s so young and he’s already had his whole life turned upside three thousand times. And he still gets the short end of the stick, and he’s just trying his best.

the character you relate to the most:

• It’s probably projecting, but probably Dick Grayson? I’m the one in the family who has taken on the “big sibling” role (despite having two older siblings), and I’ve always had to be the responsible one who looks after the people I love. I’m not as outgoing or chatty, but sometimes I think I put on this act so people can’t see how I really feel. The only thing that I’m not too gung-ho about is the touching. If I don’t feel comfortable around you, or if I’m not expecting it, don’t touch me. Also, I tend to take on a lot more responsibility than I should, and it’s not an overconfident thing, it’s just I’m used to stressing myself out. So a lot of how I write Dick Grayson is based off of my thoughts and experiences, but I still think it stays true to his character.

• I’ve never really thought about this one before, but I think I see aspects of myself in parts of the main five? But probably Katara the most? Again, I try to go out of my way to take on responsibilities  that I really shouldn’t, and so does she. She wants to save people any way she can, and that really resounded with me.  

• I’d think I’d have to say Percy for this one, too. His internal thoughts (and sometimes external) are things I’d find myself saying sometimes. My family is all sarcasm, my friends, and this boy is the king. Not to mention the attitude he looks at himself with. He doesn’t see himself as special, and sometimes that translates to self-doubt, I think. But again, that might be projecting.

the character you’d slap:

• Well, me and Toni are planning a hit on the DC headquarters to take out some of the writers and executives/editors, so does that count? Other than that, uh. the Joker? Bruce makes me want to slap him sometimes, but I never would. I love him too much.

• Azula. Excuse me, she was the greatest villain of all time, but she was also absolutely batshit insane.

• Ethan Nakamura. Boy. I want you to see reality, please. Actually. Maybe not. Maybe Dionysus if I could get away with it, or that replacement camp director from the second book. He was a jackass.

• Again, Damian. 

• Zuko. God, Zuko’s redemption arc as amazing. Mostly because they didn’t just accept him right away. It took a while for Zuko to understand why he was wrong and for the others to trust him, but it did make Zuko feel more relatable, and I do really like him now! 

• Jason. It took me a while to accept him, mostly because my favorite was Percy and he was a natural rival to Percy. But I eventually came to like him for the person he is.

• DickBabs, Dick/Wally, and TimKon? I don’t know I’m not really much of a shipper. I prefer family and found family type stories. So how about everybody and happiness?

Oh man, this is such a loaded question anon, you don’t even know - my list of favorite blogs is so long, and I have lots of different ones, and I don’t know how to narrow it down? The categories of blogs are going to be kind of weird, and some will have descriptions and some won’t so just get ready (also be advised that they are in no particular order and that they are not in order of how much I love them because that would be unfair as I love them all in varying amounts for different and many reasons) :

The Squadre - first and foremost, for reasons I talk about often, I love @highlady-casandra @miladyaelin and @shortie-stories so so so much!! If you check my sassacas tag, you’ll see a lot of love for these ladies - the first two of which are wonderful SJM blogs if you’re about that life :)

@frankiefasthands - is one of my oldest and best friends in “real life” (we’ve now known each other for like 11 years, which is kind of insane?) and her blog is always cool, though most of my reblogs from her go to my personal blog, @they-did-the-do

The Hannahs - so these guys are all together because they’re all named Hannah, but that’s pretty much the only similarity between the three of them lol@propshophannah is the SJMaas Hannah, and an amazing writer, and a great person, and really wonderful all around and I love her and her blog so so much - probably my favorite SJM blog, if I had to pick one. But also, if you need life advice, or have a sex ed question that you’re really uncomfortable asking anyone else, she’s probably already answered it, or will happily answer it if you send her an ask, because she’s just the best, and just really positive, oh man, just so wonderful@ignitesthestars (also known as New Zealand Hannah, lol) is also a really great Hannah - her blog is also really wonderful, really happy, really feminist, just generally a good place, always makes me smile :) She’s got AMAZING fic, always my go-to recommendation for people if you’re looking for tgt or soc or pjo fic (or star wars fic, but I’m not personally on that train, but Hannah’s basically the conductor, so), and I just love her so much honestly - her fic is breathtaking, she’s honestly a queen, I lack the words to express it, but oh man she’s great@ananbeth is another FANTASTIC Hannah, and I love her very very much. She’s a fantastic writer, and she’s the reason I’m into Skam (which I recommend to everyone so much, and one of my fave pjo writers, and I just appreciate her a lot. She’s also co-author of the Wimbledon AU (one of my favorite fics of all time), the coming soon “call me percy” AU (which I’m already super invested in), and the coming not as soon Devil Wears Prada AU (which I’m also super excited for). She’s half of an amazing dynamic duo that I adore so much.

The Sophiis - they’re actually the same person, but I follow two of her blogs and love them both for different reasons, so I’m tagging both and highly recommend both; she is also the other half to the above Hannah’s dynamic duo@blackjacktheboss is Sophii’s pjo blog and is honestly a blessing tbh - she’s the queen of AUs and headcanons, and I have literally scrolled through her tags for hours I love her so much omg, she’s captain of the S.S. The authors - I follow a lot of authors on here, and that’s always really cool! Some good  ones include @sabaatahir @vaveyard @stdennard and @lbardugo, as well as @worldofsarahjmaas which is not actually run by Sarah but is where all new Sarah info comes from. Sarah and Sooz also started a super amazing cool not published anywhere else story together at @thestarkillerscycle, which is super duper good, though not finished, but I still recommend itSPEAKING OF LEIGH BARDUGO!!! - I get notifications for exactly 4 Leigh Bardugo blogs (including Leigh herself, and the previously mentioned Hannah) not because I don’t love her books (I do, lots and lots) but because her fandom generally aggravates me lol so I like casually scrolling past them on my dash, but I don’t want to be notified every time they post. The two big blogs I obsessively check are @zoyalina and @savagekaz both of whom are really on top of edits and fics and such, and Cassie in particular is really strongly invested in tgt, so if you’re about the Leigh Bardugo life, her blog is 100% the place to be. She has also just started reading PJO, so a lot of wonderful edits are coming from her on that end, and it’s absolutely magical.
