I think I’ll go ahead and come off of anon xD. Mostly cause I have thoughts and would like to have someone to talk to lol.

Tbh, my emphasis on her fatal flaw being self sacrifice is probably a bit of a knee jerk reaction to how it tends to be portrayed in the fandom at large. ‘Cause it seems a common thing to portray her hubris as arrogance and I don’t think she’s very arrogant at all.

If I remember correctly she never really tries to place herself above anyone else. Heck, at the end of TLO she says that Percy saved the world and he corrects it to “us”. She’s even the first person to give credit to Tyson at the of SOM.

How it does manifest the majority of the time tho (at least in my opinion) is via reckless overconfidence. There are 3 instances which are usually used as examples to her nearly dying from her fatal flaw. The sirens, the sphinx, and Arachne. Of those the ones that are more overtly arrogance are the the latter two (tho I personally hesitate to include the sphinx because the dialogue to me sounds more like she’s having a neurodivergent breakdown but that’s another discussion). Everything else tho? The sirens, the manticore, the sky, the helicopter, fighting after getting stabbed, etc? Heck, volunteering for quests in general? Either reckless overconfidence or her just moving without thinking in defense of someone else.

TLDR, it’s not that I think she isn’t prideful, I just think she’s more likely to die to protect someone else.

Also, I think it’s kinda funny you say she’s not one to forgive when I personally think she’s one of the most forgiving people in the series. She forgives Luke and her dad, after all, even if, as you said, she never quite forgets. The only exception is probably Hera, which, I mean, is fair xD

oh my GOD i love this!!! completely agree on her pride manifesting as reckless overconfidence, it's very much a sense of "i could do it and i could do it BETTER" that reminds me of the sirens' vision she had in the sea of monsters. honestly, her explanation of it hits the nail on the head - i think she says something along the lines of "but sometimes you just see the bad stuff/what if i could take everything down and rebuild it from scratch' which is so interesting to me!! i've said this before about her more emotional reactions, but annabeth, the supposed 'logical one', acts more on raw emotion than just about anyone. she gets angry and mad and JEALOUS, and she doesn't even attempt to hide it - that's what contributes to the way i write annabeth, which is pretty much as an emotional disaster. i love her so much

GOOD CATCH on her being forgiving; i really do think ive been confusing canon!annabeth with the version i have in my head?? either way, thank you for reminding me! annabeth is better than me frfr

i'd love to see what you've written, or if you ever get around to writing for pjo! i understand writing ruts, and i wish i had more advice on how to get those good ol' creative juices flowing, but all i can say for now is: don't force it. when you get into the mood, the words will f l o w.

I think i should finally talk about this, and as much as i hate to say it, ive seen with my own eyes the pjo fandom turn into a toxic fandom, to the point that most artists have been leaving, one by one. The 'im leaving this acc bc i did this to be happy but its doing completely the opposite' posts have been more and more frequent. And now they arent bc they arent rlly into pjo anymore but bc the pjo fandom is so toxic they need to leave. I myself have considered leaving, but that wouldnt help anything, and i hope i can still change smth from the inside. I dont know how that has happened, or why, but ive been on the fandom long enough to remember when it wasnt toxic. I remember, when i joined it, this fandom what known as one of the nicest fandoms. Its ironic how toxic this fandom has become, and i feel bad for not trying to stop it. I saw smth was wrong the moment when all those hate accs appeared, but i limited myself to reporting them every time they did a new one and sending supportive dms to the affected ppl. I saw smth was wrong every time i saw a rude comment under unpopular opinions, but i didnt want to 'give them the attention they wanted'. I didnt realize how slowly but surely these were more and more common, until they turned into a normal thing. Until every time someone was brave enough to say an unpopular opinion had to specifically ask ppl not to be rude in the same post, and even with that got a lot of hate. Until seeing someone asking to report someone bc they were haters was a common thing to the point that the only reason i did it was that i felt bad afterwards if i didnt. I should have done smth when there was still a chance of saving the fandom. Maybe i alone wouldnt have changed much, but if i had maybe i would have gotten others to do it and maybe we could have stopped it before it got this bad. Now all i can hope for is to get the ppl still here to help rebuild the fandom. Because it has been destroyed, and not by titans or monsters, but by demigods in the inside. Some not realising they were destroying bits of it, others purposely summoning monsters inside camp, but right now camp half blood and camp jupiter are on ruins, and the gods are not going to build them up for us. So you can leave if you think thats whats gonna be the safest option for you, but i encourage all of you to stay, to help us rebuild the camps. To change our attitude towards new things, to be united against those who dont. Our home may be destroyed, but we arent. Even if weve done bad things, we can change. Maybe its gonna be a while before we go back to what we used to be, but if we work hard enough, we can do it. We can show the new generation of demigods what we used to be, instead of just letting them see what weve become, and make them like this. It will be hard, ppl will leave for their own health (and i wont blame you at all if u do), but we can do it. Im sure of it.

A pattern I was already noticing emerging after the first four fics: the first sentence immediately sets the tone of the fic and introduces the most important thing of the fic: the mystery, the thing the character has to figure out (my writing tends to be heavily character driven, what is plot?). It tends to be less laser focused the longer the fic, particularly if it is multi-chaptered, less signal posting. Sometimes I like to be dramatic and simply and creatively describe the scenery. I also got to skip one because I put it in my prior 20 lines fic in 2019 as a wip and felt very smug. Maybe too smug, but finishing things is a wonderful feeling. Irrelevant to the sentences, but my titles do tend to be literary-esque and dramatic. And lowercase. That is essential to my aesthetic.

Hey is the Runemarks fandom still around? I’m just gonna ramble about a dumb AU idea I have that began ages ago before I even had a tumblr. Because I don’t even know what this blog is anymore and I think some of the things on this list are hilarious.

So for context, once I had a dream that ended with Maddy and Odin looking out a window into a school yard at a redheaded kid and Odin sighing and going “even the Trickster is just a 9 year old child”. Then I woke up and was like “ooh I should write a fic where Ragnarok happens again and all the gods get reborn in the present day as kids with no memories of being gods!”

I figured that this could be explained by having all of them falling into the river Dream as they lost the final battle and the idea was that some of the gods were reborn earlier than the others and were searching for the rest and that once a god regained their memories they’d be able to age back up to their canon age. 

Of course, as I was also a massive PJO fan at the time this was going to be set in New York and Asgard was going to end up on the 500th floor of the Empire State Building. 

Anyway, I never even finished writing the first chapter bc I lost motivation but I still liked the idea and kept adding random events to this AU. Such as:

While figuring out how to face down with the Whisperer and Chaos before rebuilding Asgard all of the gods end up living together in a tiny apartment that should in not logistically be able to fit all of them. Magic helps but they do all get on each other’s nerves a lot

Maddy getting into playing Pokemon and naming all of her Pokemon after the other gods

Some of them are: a flower-crowned Flareon named “Loki”, a Dusclops called “Grandpa” and a Pikachu called “Dad”

Do I also have a flower-crowned Flareon named Loki on PokeGo? Yes

A group chat named “God Squad” which began by accident when Loki kept adding more and more gods to a chat in an attempt to prove he didn’t do something

Eventually all of the gods are in the chat and it only served to prove he did the thing he was accused of

Loki also gets kicked out of the chat at least 5 times even though he was the one who started it

Maddy keeps adding him back in, though once it was her who kicked him out

Everyone’s nicknames are constantly being set into something insulting and at least half the time it’s Loki doing that

Loki once tapes a knife onto the Roomba and names it Stabby

When cornered by Skadi and interrogated about it he explains it with: “Maddy isn’t here right now and she’s like 90% of my self control”

Annabeth dies in the war with Gaea and Percy is heartbroken, but at least he still has his parents. He gets home and finally reunites with Sally and Paul. i have to give props to past!me for writing this question. good one. i think.... something i learned is that i’ve improved! and i’ve come a really, really long way. i’ve been writing since about 2012/2013, and for the past few years i’ve personally not noticed much change in my writing. but someone pointed out to me how much i’ve improved comparing one of my fics from around 2017 to my most recent wip, and it’s really gratifying to hear that and to make the realization that yeah, wow, i did improve.

We have three versions here: canon, fandom, and AU.

Hera’s canon verses are a little convoluted because a lot happens to Hera throughout her life, but this is the simplest explanation of her canon timeline. Please take heed that I am “canon divergent”.

* v. titanomachia.

          This verse starts shortly after Kronos regurgitated the Kronides and continues throughout the Titan War. There is a brief gap in the middle of this verse, where Hera leaves her pantheon’s territory for Thrace during her pregnancy with Ares and returns with him.

* v. olympian.

         From  the end of the Titan War until Hera leaves Mt. Olympos to wed her second husband, the  river god Inakhos. This time period includes the birth of Athena, Zeus’ short-lived marriage to Themis, and the birth of Persephone. Included in the verse is Hera’s fostering with Tethys and Okeanos as well as her first marriage to the river god Imbrasos.

* v. lady of the argos.

         This verse is a little tricky in the timeline. Catch-all tag for the time of Hera’s marriage to Inakhos until the birth of Artemis and Apollo---which directly preceeds Hera’s marriage to Zeus---as well as the times when Hera acts as a sovereign goddess, separate to her role as queen on Olympos.

* v. basileia.

         Hera as Queen on Olympos, wife to almighty Zeus. Includes her betrothal and most of her marriage, including their major separation and reconciliation. Things start transitioning into the next verse by the time of Hebe and Hermes’ birth, still slowly unraveling by the time the situation with Io & Argos occurs...

* v. heavy is the crown.

         The failed coup marks the beginning of this verse---or maybe it’s earlier, with Argos’ death by Hermes’ hand? Hera is an antagonistic figure in Zeus’ court, both ally and enemy in one. Yoked to her marriage and to her husband, Hera remains by his side out of habit moreso than love. Some cycles are harder to break than others, especially when you’ve tried---and failed---before.

* v. soteira.

         Hera walks among mortals. Merciful, she calls herself. Savior. Though what ‘saving’ means---what ‘merciful’ means---depends on her whim, for she is as capricious as any god of her kind. The “modern” counterpart to lady of the argos, in that it is separate to her role as queen.

* v. khere.

         Main/modern verse. Hera is officially divorced from Zeus and is working on rebuilding her life and rediscovering who she is apart from their toxic, all-consuming connection.

Self-explanatory. Hera verses that take place within specific media. 

* v. pjo / hoo.

        Primarily taking place during and post-Heroes of Olympus.  Extremely canon divergent and prioritizing what I believe to be essential aspects of my Hera and carefully syncretizing her to the universe. [Selective]

* v. pjo / hoo au. ( adoption / titanslayer )

         Rather than throw Jason to the literal wolves, Hera takes it upon herself to raise her husband’s child on Olympos as her own son.

* v. pjo / hoo / hp fusion.

          Hera Grace, Slytherin alum, remains with Zeus for one reason: Jason, her adopted son, and the biological child of Zeus and his (former) muggle mistress. [With @titanslayer​, selectively open]

         Hera Alexander, Slytherin alum(?), twin sister to a stillborn brother. Extremely traumatized and doesn’t remember her childhood.

         Set in Neil Gaiman’s American Gods universe (obv), the Madam H came to light during the Bronze Age, when Argive sailors brought their (pre-Panhellenic) patron goddess to the New World. 

* v. lore olympus.
