you hate talking on the phone. you hate how your voice sounds through the other line, how awkward it feels to hear someone's voice near your ear, and the nervousness that you always feel when you see your phone ringing.
you hate it so much and rin knows that, and yet, he still calls instead of texting you. especially when he's away for soccer matches.
you told him that you should just text each other but he insists on calling you, if you try to text him, he won't reply back. instead, he'll bombard your phone with calls until you pick up.
(he loves phone calls because he loves hearing your voice)

"So that's how you found him?" Suvi giggled, thinking Jia and Minghao's story was the cutest love story she could've ever heard. "I can't believe it was right when Lilly died -- talk about fate!"
"It was pretty perfect timing," Danbi nodded. "Obviously everyone was really distraught, but Minghao had his mate there for him. I guess he would always tell the pack that she saved his life."
"Yup," Jia laughed softly. "Doesn't let me forget it."
"Hang on," Jooyeon interrupted, staring at Jia intensely. She had even leaned forward as she listened to the blind girl's story because she was so invested, "so what happened with XiuXiu?"
The girls were staying at Hanbin's place with the other mates while all the wolves were hanging out together at some secret werewolf-only speakeasy that Hanbin and his pack went out to from time to time. It wasn't often just the girls got to hang out together, and it was even more rare that they got to spend any time with the girls from Kyung's old pack. But all the boys wanted to get together before Minghao and Junhui's annual trip back to China. And this year, they were taking Jia with them.
The conversation originally began with Ari curiously asking what had happened to the rest of Hanbin's pack. Eunjin had screamed her head off as soon as she was on the property, which of course, startled everyone, so Hanbin had mentioned offhandedly that a lot of their pack had passed away before he went out with the other wolves. Ari being Ari, was curious and didn't know any better to have a filter, but the girls explained most of what happened.
That is, until they got sidetracked. Kyung talked about how Taejin was lured to his death by his mate, and Yeji had jokingly said, "Jia, imagine if Minghao had lured you to your death, huh?"
So that sparked the question of how did Minghao and Jia even meet since it happened in a dream.
"Or June!" Jimin added on.
Jia merely shrugged, "I don't know. I never saw either of them again."
"What?!" the thief whined. "No way! You have to know what happened to at least June!"
"What a shitty ending..." Kyung muttered.
"Do you think I'd see any clues as to where June went?" Jia laughed. "I'm blind."
"I can't believe we're just left on a cliffhanger like that," Seongmi sighed.
"How do you think I feel? It really makes me sad... I hope she's doing well, wherever she is."
"Why would she be the first dream you ever entered, though?" Soomin wondered. "It's so random..."
Rika shrugged, "Sometimes life doesn't give us answers."
"If you're Rinnie," Jimin was watching Kyung whisper translations in Cooper's ear, "it rarely ever does."
-
The boat ride wasn't Jia's favorite. She hadn't been on a boat since she had to flee when she was a child, so she didn't really remember the experience. She realized just how awful being stranded in the middle of the ocean on an unfamiliar vessel with a bunch of strangers was when you couldn't see anything.
Even if she could see, she was sure she would hate it.
"My parents are old," Minghao warned her. "They won't want to go out and explore with us. They're tired pretty often."
"That's okay," she assured him with a smile. "I'm excited to meet them no matter what."
"You think having old parents is bad?" Jun scoffed. "My baby brother looks older than me."
Appearance-wise, Jun and Minghao looked like they were in their 20's. And their bodies technically were. That was around the age that they stopped getting older until they met their mates. Minghao started aging again as soon as he met his mate -- physically, of course. Junhui was still stuck.
But despite their young appearances, they were both over 40 years older than they appeared. So both of their parents were much older than one might expect, and any younger relatives they had appeared to be older than them now.
On the way to Minghao's old house, he explained how he ran away from home as soon as he realized what he was. But he said his parents went out looking for him and wouldn't stop until they found him. He admitted what he was and ran away before either of them could accept him or turn him away. He just wanted to protect them Then he ended up finding Soonyoung, so he went off with him and never looked back.
"I was really close with my cousin, Yaling," he told you. "We were basically like siblings, so I told her to take care of my parents before I left. She tried to convince me to stay, but I knew how dangerous it was."
Jun was the one to convince him to return home half a decade later. Since he went to visit his mom, Minghao would often wonder aloud how his own family was doing, so finally, the older wolf coaxed Minghao into going with him. And that was when he realized his family had been searching for him the whole time.
"They put up missing persons pictures using a couple photos of me from family photo albums," Minghao chuckled at the memory. "It was crazy because it was five years later and I still looked like that."
Looking back, Minghao felt lucky that he reunited with his family so he could watch them grow and get old. It was bittersweet getting to see his parents gray while he stayed the same. He was grateful to still be loved by them so he could experience them getting older, but it hurt that he couldn't age with them.
But then there were happy moments, like watching his relatives that he grew up with -- like Yaling -- get married and have families.
"The Xu family reunion is huge," Junhui stated with a laugh. "Everyone shows up to see Hao."
Just as Jun promised, Minghao's parents' house was full to capacity when the trio arrived. While Jia couldn't see all the people, she could hear the commotion. It was overwhelming, but she put on her warmest smile and let the two wolves help her around as they introduced her to his family.
It was as Minghao was introducing her to his parents and Yaling that his mother was interrupted.
"Jia?" a female voice asked.
Jia's eyes wandered, her head turning toward the noise. She waited to hear something else, but all she heard was soft footsteps getting closer until they stopped in front of her.
"Your eyes look the same," the girl giggled excitedly.
Her head cocked to one side, "I-I'm sorry?"
"Xiuying, what are you talking about?" he asked her.
"I know her," she insisted before looking at Jia again. "Don't you remember?"
Minghao paused while he thought, and then his eyes seemed to brighten, "You two are about the same age. But if she knew you before she moved away... XiuXiu, she's blind now."
Jia's eyes suddenly widened and her entire body seemed to perk up.
"XiuXiu?"
"Jia!" she laughed again before throwing her arms around Jia.
Jia let go of Minghao's arm to hug her back, a smile so big spreading across her face that it made her eyes close.
Minghao looked to Junhui first, both boys sharing confused looks before he turned to Yaling for answers. Somehow, his cousin looked like she knew exactly what was going on and she was shocked.
"Did you know?" Minghao asked her.
"I-- ...I thought Jia was imaginary..." was all she said.
"XiuXiu's dreams were the first I ever entered," Jia explained once the two girls pulled away. "Aside from my dad's, of course. I only ever saw her dreams up until I had to leave home."
"I was wondering where you went!" Xiuying was still laughing -- out of both excitement, joy, and shock.
"XiuXiu cried for days," Yaling nodded. Then she imitated her wailing of, "'Where's Jia! I miss Jia!'"
The rest of the reunion was sweet and happy. Everyone was excited to see Minghao and meet his mate, and the two girls were practically inseparable. But somehow, it seemed to make his parents even more fond of Jia -- although, it was hard to not be fond of her in the first place.
That night, after everyone had gone home and Minghao's family retreated into the own rooms and made sure Jun was settled in the guest room, Minghao and Jia curled up together in Minghao's old room that his family kept for him. And as they were winding down, of course Minghao had to bring up his mate's history with his 'niece'.
"How come you never mentioned XiuXiu?" he asked.
Jia shrugged as she pulled the covers up, "It seemed a little pointless. I obviously wouldn't expect you to know who she was, so why would I mention the random little girl I used to visit?
"Actually, what about you?" she asked with a frown, turning it around on her mate. "How come you never mentioned XiuXiu talking about a Jia?"
He chuckled, "Because Jia isn't an uncommon name, and I never heard about a Jia after Xiuying got older. I figured it really was just an imaginary friend like everyone else. Plus, I only saw her once a year so her Jia never really stuck with me."
"Sure, HaoHao," she chuckled, sliding down the bed until her head touched the pillows.
"You know what that means, right?" Minghao asked as he followed suit.
"Hmm?"
"You've been connected to me for a long time," he giggled. "You've always been made for me."
Jia scoffed as she rolled over to snuggle into Minghao's chest, "I always knew that."
There was a pounding on the wall before the pair heard Junhui call just loud enough for them both to hear, "Could you wait until I fall asleep to be disgustingly cheesy?"

I loved you before this, and I love you now
ft. Suna Rintaro
Warnings + Info: just a fluffy drabble :)
Tumblr media
Your relationship with Suna steadily spun right between pining crushes and inseparable soulmates. Everyone - and by everyone, I mean everyone - was just waiting for the moment he’d finally ask you to be his partner. It was obvious to all but the two of you that the both of you were in love: ardently and whole-heartedly in love. Texting until two in the morning, random bickering as you walked down the halls, randomly FaceTiming just to let the other one know that they’re an idiot, and the lazy moments after practice where he’d flop on top of you, hair damp from a recent shower, tucking his face snug in the crook of your neck, asleep in moments, all became apart of every day life.
You walked home in the rain, umbrella lousily propped on your shoulder as you traced your steps home. It was routinely the same: Suna had practice, you had homework and a longing to be by his side and other chores that needed to be done. Yet, a part of you wanted to just go back to the gym, sit on the cold bleachers and watch the team practice, knowing that after every successful spike, your lovely Rintaro would glance up at you before looking away, an adorable pink dusting his cheeks as you cheered.
“It’s just a practice,” he’d sigh, tired eyes gazing down at you as you handed him his water.
“I know,” you’d reply, eyes alight with fiery mischief and adoration, “but all accomplishments should be celebrated. Plus, you’re like amazing! Well, not like, you really are!”
He’d snort, shaking his head as he continued to drink his water. He didn’t need to reply, you’d always have something to retort back with, so he would ruffle your hair and wave you off. “You’re such a dork,” he’d chuckle to himself as you bounced over to the twins, giving Atsumu a high-five while handing Osamu some extra onigiri you packed just for his hungry self.
Time seemed so stagnant after your homework was finished, your brain exhausted from the excessive math problems you reviewed and re-reviewed, preparing for an upcoming exam that you proudly told Kita you’d ace. (At your enthusiasm, your upper-classman gave a small smile and nod - it was all you really needed to have the energy to study and pass.) The clock felt slower with every ticking second, the gentle tapping of the rain on your windowsill taking your attention with its quicker beats and rhythmic hum. The seconds seemed to turn into hours as you waited for a text, a call, maybe even a FaceTime with a fox-eyed boy picking his nose and rambling nonchalantly about how this ten-year-old kid on twitter was sticking their nose in his business.
Yet, nothing came.
Why, why did you truly care so much? It wasn’t out of the ordinary for Suna to be asleep by now; and hell, as close as you were, it was normal for the both of you to forget to text you’d gotten home safely or how much of a pain Atsumu had been that day. Still, you couldn’t help but grab your phone, opening Suna’s contact, the most recent conversation you had in class catching your attention.
Rinnie <3 (11:10 am): “ur sock’s untied”
Rinnie <3 (11:11 am): “hah made u look”
You (11:13 am): “big talk for someone who has a stain on his shirt lol”
You (11:14 am): “hah made u look”
Rinnie <3 (11:14 am): “ur an idiot”
Shaking your head, you began to laugh. “I think you would be a fitting comedian,” you snickered softly to yourself, picturing Suna awkwardly telling jokes on a stage, shrugging about halfway through his show with a huffy laugh at the audience. You’d love to see him do something like that, whether it be for your own amusement or to see if everyone else found him as funny as you did. Your fingers moved over the keyboard, a soft sigh leaving your lips as you typed your feelings, knowing there would never be a good time to admit to such fleeting thoughts.
“you make me happy Rin, i hope you know that. I just want to be with you all the time- Ugh, this is so cheesy!!!!!!”
You quickly deleted the text, anxiously chewing your lip as you typed again. Maybe it’d just be easier to straight up confess to the indifferent lazy head you’d just happen to fall so deeply for, it almost hurt to think about not being with him.
“I love you, Rintaro.”
-
You were half-awake by the time your door had cracked open, your eyelids hazily drooping with sleep, arm wrapped tight around your pillow as your phone screen - which had you staring at that text you wrote out for almost an hour, internally debating if it was actually a good idea to send it - darkened. With his hair damp and hoodie snug around his upper body, nose red from the cold walk he made over here, Suna opened the rest of your door. “Look who didn’t even wait up for me,” he commented, causing you to launch off your bed, a smile plastered on your face the moment you sat up
The brunette was over so often that you told him he was welcome to go into your room anytime, if it was locked, he wasn’t allowed in and you both happily obliged to that simple dynamic of passing and staying. Then you realized - your phone (with the text on full display) was daintily propped on your bed. You scrambled back to your bed, reaching to click off your phone, Suna wiping his nose on his sleeve, eyeing you with such precision it only made him curious as to what you were doing. “Did you walk here in the rain, you-”
“Well, I was planning on coming here straight after school, but my sister wanted to go to the movies and I promised her I’d take her and, you know how she can be.” He shuffled across the room, flopping beside you, cheek smushed into your favorite pillow. You were truly mesmerized with this boy. The way his long-downcast lashes would flutter whenever you said something interesting; his habit of taking pictures of everything, especially those candid photos of you when you were completely concentrated or smiling like there wasn’t a care in the world (which he never failed to make his lock screen for a few days until you’d question him about why he was being so sneaky with his phone); how he’d gently tug on your hair when you got anxious as to pull you back into this plane of existence and remind you to live in the now; and how even though you were completely oblivious, he mesmerized you because he was just as head over heels in love with you as you were with him.
“Whatcha got on your phone?” he eventually questioned, scooting close to you to sling a hand over your waist.
“Nothin’...” you responded, leaning your head onto his, one hand twirling a piece of his hair between your fingertips.  “Yer a horrible liar,” he sighed, “you clicked it off as soon as I walked in. Ya watching something dir-”
“Rintaro,” you embarrassedly laughed, cutting him off before he could continue to tease you, “it was, erm, nothing important.”
He looked up at you, a moment of silence encasing the both of you. “You know, yer truly gorgeous.”
You thanked the goodness in this world that it was dark in your room, your cheeks too hot to not be a bright red. “Rin, don’t try to sucker your way into seeing what was on my phone-”
“I already did see it,” he laughed softly, a teasing lilt to his tone.
“What?!” You sprung up, the middle blocker pouting as your warmth left his side. “You read what I sent to you and you’re still acting completely normal?! Rintaro, I admitted to loving you - over a text too, it was so idiotically cliche and lame and, and you’re so calm...about...it...” Your words faltered as surprise washed over Suna, his eyes softening as the biggest grin you’d ever seen cross his features. “You didn’t get my text, did you?” Your voice was a strained whisper, gulping harshly as tears welled in your eyes. The word embarrassed couldn’t even encompass the way you felt in the moment - mortified was more fitting, if that. You sunk to the floor, arms slung over the bed, face smushed into the mattress as a groan left your lips. “I hate you,” you mumbled through the cover, causing a breathy laugh to escape through Suna’s nose.
He wiggled his way over to you, gently tugging your hair. “Hey,” he tugged again, “hey,” another tug, “hey, dork.” You looked up to him, finding eye contact to be the hardest thing in the world. It was then that his lips met yours - they were gentle and warm against your own, a giddiness filling your chest as he pulled away. “It’s cute when you get all flustered like that, admitting how you feel.”
All you could do was blink, fingertips ghosting over your lips. “You did that on purpose, didn’t you?”
He smirked, winking playfully. “Wanna know what’s even funnier? I loved you before this, and I love you now. So, what d’ya say, want to be in love together, officially?”
A lovesick smile played at your lips, pushing his face from yours as he teasingly tapped his lips. “You’re such an idiot.”
“Oh, really? Your sock’s untied again.”
You looked down at your fuzzy socks, no laces to be found, eyebrows furrowing at your now cackling official ‘in-love together boyfriend,’ smile playing at your lips as you pecked his cheek, crawling back into the same bed that you had laid in with him everyday after practice, his hair damp from a recent shower, his face tucked into the crook of your neck in a matter of minutes, asleep not too soon after.

contents: fluff, rinnie being jealous, just a random drabble <3
Tumblr media
he hates that plushie. he would've burned it to ashes by now , only if you didn't love it so much. if a glare could kill, that plushie— who isn't even alive— would be dead right now.
“ rinnie look, he really looks just like you! ” you giggle , showing him the custom-made plushie while pressing your cheek on it.
“ tch. ”
he thinks it's stupid. why are you spending so much time with that damn doll instead of him? your actual real life boyfriend.
you've been obsessing over it since it arrived two days ago , you're just overjoyed about how adorable it looks. it matches rin's personality perfectly!
“ hey, c'mon! don't be like that, rinnie! ” you whine , giving him a pout. “ you'll be leaving in a day, i don't want us to argue about anything before you leav- ”
“ exactly. ”, he cuts you off , “ i'm leaving soon but , you're spending more time on that stupid thing instead of me. ” he crosses his arms and makes himself sink deeper into the couch.
“ rinnie , don't tell me ... are you jealous because of the plushie? ”
he turns his head away from you , trying to hide the soft blush forming around his cheeks and ears.
you giggle at his jealousy , “ awh, you're so cute rinnie! ” you'll never stop loving this immature side of him. a side of him that only you get to see.
“ just shut up and come here. ” he pulls you by the waist and makes you straddle him.
“ i also saw you kissing it you know. ” he glares at you , but you only giggle at response.
“ it was only because you were busy packing, ” you cup his face into your hands and give small pecks onto both of his cheeks, “ .. won't do it again, promise. ”
“ hmph. ”
he pulls you into him closer — like you two aren't already close enough — and gives you a soft but aggressive kiss. (i don't know how kisses work ?)
“ .. i'll give you all the attention and damn kisses you want so get rid of it already. ”
