Nordictalia Fanfiction Masterpost
Hello, hello! I recently asked people to send me their Nordic 5-centric fanfiction recommendations, and I ended up getting so many good suggestions that I figured I'd compile them all into a single master post! Thank you so much to everyone who participated; this is exactly what I was looking for <3
All linked fanfictions are recommended by people in my inbox, I haven't read them all (yet). I'm willing to update this list if more recommendations come my way!
I decided to share this list because I have seen other people on the desperate lookout for new fics to read. Hopefully, this list will serve you well, too!

Iceland enquires with a curious gaze up at his brother. The question seems to take Norway by surprise. The previous 30-50 questions Iceland had asked today had been more about why grass was green and the sky blue. Norway wasn't prepared for this sort of stuff. Why Iceland Can Speak Arabic by Klokkenspel wc: 23,429 || rating: T || pairings: none || completed Nationverse summary: He didn't think this visit would be different from the others, as his people were doing quite well, after all. He probably should have paid more attention to those ships on the horizon, but there was little room for regret when your hands are tied and you're taken aboard on a voyage to who-knows-where. An Asian colony greets him at the door. (A story of coming of age in quarantine.) // cw: WW2 Healing by messe_jesse wc: 40,680 || rating: Not Rated || pairings: Dennor, SuFin || completed Nationverse summary: It's the end of World War II. The Nordics, after not being together for six years, are living together again under the same roof. It's tough, and all they want to do is go back to normal. But how do you go back to normal after seeing nothing but death, destruction and fear for six years? The chapters after the prologue are the same events but in different point of views so there's some repetition, but it's to show how everybody is processing events differently. The prologue is a bit heavy with the history and there's no dialogue, but the rest of the story has a lot more going on! Also, I apologize if any of my history is incorrect!! I did my best with research. // cw: WW2, PTSD ââ˘~â᯽â~â˘â

one day by phyripo - also short and very very sweet human au, this one has holiday vibes but it's more about new years' resolutions and stuff i think u could read it any time of the year :)
take one breath by phyripo - ok this is sooort of cheating because it's focused around luxembourg/moldova (aged up) BUT robul are there and they're cute they're having their wedding like!!!đĽşit's worth a read
and then some equally great ones by other authors!!
you know my name by quiettoxic - ALSO A MUST READ this is i think my favourite robul oneshot ever and i'm not huge on human aus!! it's basically them growing up together and falling in love over time and ouggghhh my HEART
castles in the air by shadowcatxx - bulgaria is horny for vampires & i'm also horny for vampires so this was meant to be <3 it's written in the 1st person but don't let that scare u it's a good time it has like,, vaguely classic lit vibes and it's nice to read smth so different once in a while! + vampires are hot
be ready and be brave by doomspiral - doom writes historical nationverse that makes me want to tear my heart out of my chest and chew it !!!! historical robul is a rare and delicious treat so u have to read this
transcendence by roesslyng - this one makes me go insane like,, the homoeroticism of consensual murder needs to be a bigger genre in nationverse!!!!

As a title, "The Traveller" + DenEst? :o
Yâall are spoiling me with all my favourite ships! ;w;
A merfolk AU, Christian lives his life on the seas; collecting treasures, meeting new people, and enjoying life to the fullest. During a bad storm, his boat capsizes and is knocked overboard. They next thing he knew, he woke up on land, resting on the beach and covered in sand. He also notices he is not alone. A merman was watching over him carefully and was delighted to see him wake from his slumber. He introduces himself as Eduard and recalls the moment that they met. He had happened to pass by when he saw him falling deep into the sea. Knowing well he wouldnât survive underwater for much longer, he pulled him through the rough currents and brought him to shore. Christian is grateful and introduces himself. Though their time together was brief, Eduard promises him they will met again at this same spot.
And he kept his word, many times over.
Christian was fortunate enough to be brought to an island that was habituated by a small community of about 700 people. He made his home here but was eager to get back to his life on the ocean. As he waited for a new boat to be built for him, he took up painting and craftwork. He visited Eduard daily and often brought his painting supplies with him. Eduard proved to be the best muse for him. His beautiful royal blue tail was a favourite of his to paint. He grew very fond of Eduard and made him an offer that Eduard could not have refused. When his boat was ready, Christian wanted him to join him out on his journey across the seas. When that time came, Eduard was right by his side as they started a new chapter together as companions for life.

Survivors of man
David Clarke â Australia Stefan Borisov â Bulgaria Joshua Clarke â Hutt River Luca Rotaru â Moldova Olympe Castil â Monaco Riley Greenwood â New Zealand Dragos Rotaru â Romania Ashleigh Clarke â Wy
Summary:Â The end of the world has left a family of nomads amongst the handful of survivors, travelling up and down the remains of Europe to escape deadly weather conditions. Meanwhile, on the other side of the world, a natural disaster occurs that may just make survival impossible.
For @phyripo! *3* Eeeee I did a scream when I got you in the @aphgenficexchange because finally I could write you a fic with your human names! I tried my best to come up with a story that included most of the prompts and I think I managed? It's a strange combination of apocalyptic, road trip (in an incredibly loose sense) and supernatural... or at least magic. The magic is actually explained in the fic I promise. I also got most of the character groups you put! Um, I won't spoil too much here. Anyway, this was really fun to do! But I am terribly slow so decided to make this a two-parter as opposed to a one-shot just... so you have something to read whilst I'm finishing this all up. Also cliffhangers. Also, to explain the term 'Australian traps'... it's a reference to the ancient flood basalt volcanoes I based them on, the Siberian Traps, it's nothing to do with... yeah... Also I had to add Boris to the story hope you don't mind :0 The title comes from 'End of Days' by Abney Park.

33 with EstLiet? đ
33. âYouâre cute with glasses.â
Yeee! Iâm so sorry that this took an actual century! What happened is: I wrote three separate stories for this prompt pretty quickly, didnât like two of them and accidentally turned the third into a different pairing (but I did like it so I will post it in the near future), got discouraged, read the entirety of Return of the King in procrastination, and then I wrote this high fantasy... Thing. Honestly, Iâm still not sure Iâm satisfied and itâs very Out There considering the prompt but yeaH,, I hope you like it anyway :V
uhh so names are pretty straightforward but yâknow, Tolys is Liet, Eduard is Est, Raivis is Lat, ErzsĂŠbet is Hun and Nadzeya is Bela c:
--
Finally, they have arrived in the southern Elven kingdom, and Tolysâs Elvish traveling companions have been whisked away by their kin immediately, expectedly. This has left him with only Raivis, who is sitting on a high table and looking around in wonder at the Elven building. His small legs swing out as he leans back on his hands.
âI knew we were traveling with an Elven Queen,â he says, âbut this is all so incredible!â
Tolys nods. He could never have predicted that his search for his familyâs long-lost heirlooms might lead him to find company in not only Raivis, who is most likely the first of his kind to travel so far south, but also in a party of three northern Elves seeking to join their kin in the newly reclaimed southern kingdom. Let alone could he have foreseen, of course, that one of them would actually be the Queen-in-exile.
âEveryone will be so jealous back home,â Raivis is now saying, as he inspects the fine, light clothes the Elves have gifted them. Although the lands remain yet war-torn, the Elves of the south have been more than generous to the Halfling and the Man. Tolys wagers that ErzsĂŠbet has been exaggerating their involvement in overcoming the obstacles on the way here. She acted as the Queenâs guard and became fond of Raivis in particular, having hardly met his kind before.
It's also difficult not to be fond of Raivis in general, Tolys thinks.
As approachable as ErzsĂŠbet was, with none of the expected Eleven superiority or contempt, so closed off and cool were Queen Nadzeya and the Elven clerk, Eduard. At least, when first they met. Both of them looked like northern Elves, tall and pale with hair of starlight and eyes like the lakes in their kingdom, and Tolys had been starstruck by their otherworldliness, thinking at first that Eduard must be a prince himself. However, he was merely a scribe, traveling along to record the Queenâs journey south, and he was, in fact, ErzsĂŠbetâs cousin.
âDo you think weâre allowed to leave?â Raivis asks, jumping the considerable height off the table so that his bare feet thud on the wooden floor. The buildings here have been rigged up by some ingenious engineering, or perhaps magic, between the jagged mountains and the unnaturally tall trees.
Many of the trees were felled over the past centuries, since the Elves were driven away far before Tolys was born, and more yet torn down in the battle to reclaim the land. It hadnât been difficult to feel his companionsâ sorrow as they entered their kingdom. ErzsĂŠbet had appeared particularly upset at the jagged wood, and Eduard had sung softly to the earth itself. New sprouts were already coming up.
Tolys imagines Raivis wants to take a look at the young trees himselfâHalflings, that much he has learned, have a fondness for all growing things.
âWe werenât told to stay here, were we?â
Raivis shrugs, standing on his tiptoes to peer out of the window. His blond curls barely reach the edge. He gasps.
âTolys, Nadzeya is coming over here!â
Raivis never quite warmed up to the Queen, which, in all honesty, Tolys doesnât blame him for. She is so intimidatingly beautiful that itâs difficult to see past. It took him many weeks, and he attributes it to his upbringing more than anything.
Now, he stands and opens the door at her knock.
Unsure what the proper Elven greeting for a monarch is, he bows.
âWelcome, Your Majesty.â
Raivis follows his example, albeit with a stutter and clasping his hands together in what must be the way of the Halflings.
Nadzeya blinks, silent. Her eyelids are painted dark as everâapparently a sign of mourning in the north, for family she lost in the battle for the south. ErzsĂŠbet had marked her body with intricate ink patterns in the southern way. Eduard had cut his hair short. He had, he told Tolys, lost his younger brother in the fight led by the southern Prince.
Itâs still difficult to believe that he is related to ErzsĂŠbet. They look so little alike.
All of a sudden, Nadzeya laughs, just for a second as if startled into it. It definitely startles Tolys and Raivis in turn.
âYourââ Tolys starts. She shakes her head sharply.
âOh, please, Iâve had enough of that for a few centuries. Eduard is looking for you, I think youâll find he has important news.â She rolls her eyes. âThe idiot.â
Tolys bristles a little on Eduardâs behalf, and Nadzeya snorts in the most un-royal manner. She isnât wearing any kind of crown now, not even the silver circlet she wore to travel. Her hair is, in fact, completely unbound. He knows that is unusual for Elves. Maybe, itâs part of some sort of ceremony or ritual.
âWhere can I find EduardâŚâ He bites his lip. It feels strange not to add an honorific. âMy Lady?â
âYou know what, even thatâs too much.â Nadzeyaâs expression is unreadable, as usual. âAs for Eduard; he is, of course, in the library. We have some extensive genealogies preserved of important families of Men.â
âAh,â Tolys breathes, now recognizing the amused spark in her eyes. âYes, of course. WhereâŚâ
Gesturing, Nadzeya says, âThat way, the building says library. I know you read Elvish.â
âShall I come?â Raivis asks nervously, glancing up at the Queen. Tolys shakes his head.
âIâll return shortly.â
As he leaves, he hears Nadzeya say something dry to the Halfling, and hopes he will be all right.
It seems odd for the Queen to be out like this, but then again, what does he really know about Elvish traditions? Let alone courtly ones? Perhaps, this is just how it goes around here.
It is a short walk to the library, and he meets no one on his way there. More Elves are expected to arrive over the coming year, to help restore the kingdom and make it the thriving realm it once was, but as of yet, very few are here.
Eduard is easy to spot. The Elf sits by a window, pale hair shimmering in the golden sunlight. Heâs shielding a scroll from the sun, long fingers skimming over the parchment. With his other hand, he adjustsâ
âI have never seen an Elf wear eyeglasses before,â Tolys finds himself saying.
Eduard starts, looking up at him through the round spectacles, pinched on his nose with golden a golden frame.
âIâm sorry. I didnât mean to startle you.â
At that, he smiles and shakes his head. He carefully rolls the scroll and slides it back into its casing.
âI donât mind at all.â He adjusts the frames, smiling faintly. âItâs good to have them back. My handwriting is much better when I can see what Iâm writing.â
Tolys takes a seat at the high desk across from his Elven friend, glancing down at the scrollâs tube. He bites down on a wry smile.
âThatâs good. They look nice. Youâreâyouâre cute with glasses.â
âThatâŚâ Eduard is stunned silent, which is endearing, and obviously not thinking about the scroll at all, which is good. âCute?â
âHm.â Tolys bites his lip and leans his chin in his hand. âLike a young Halfling would be, I imagine.â
âIâve neverâdo you know how old I am?â
Interested, Tolys leans forward. He actually does not know. It was enough to understand that he was the youngest in their little company. Raivis, despite appearances, is almost forty years old, a few years older than Tolys. Halflings age slowly. Elves, of course, hardly age at all.
âTwo thousand two hundred and twenty-two years old, and you call me cute.â He sounds more amused than indignant. Itâs quite a pleasant sound.
âThatâs a nice number,â Tolys says absently, much more interested in the sparkle that has entered Eduardâs light eyes than the glasses itself.
âI suppose it is.â He glances away. Sighs, and laces his long, elegant fingers together in front of his chest. âI was injured during the first battle. It damaged my sight.â
âI apologize.â
âNo need. Most Elves use charms to see when such injuries occur, but we passed through a human kingdom on the way north, where I was introduced to eyeglasses like these. I find that theyâre much less straining.â
Tolys know the story of the Elven refugees well.
âThe kingdom of Vilnius,â he whispers. He cannot help but look at the scroll again, the familiar crest on the case. If his father had known the Elves kept all those histories here, protected for centuriesâŚ
âIndeed.â
They study each other for a long while. Tolys knows he doesnât look like much to an Elf, even after being given the opportunity to bathe in a natural hotspring and festooned with an outfit far too fine for the likes of him. He isnât terribly tall, and his brown hair is always a mess, curling when he doesnât want it to and getting in his face despite his best efforts. Eduard is⌠Well, heâs an Elf. While they were on the road, it was easy to imagine that they were friends, and perhaps they are, still. But Tolys has no illusions that it will be the same. That he will ever get the chance to address the profound trust he has in Eduard, the appreciation for his almost Mannish groundedness but Elven whims at the same time.
Especially not when Eduard, whoâs possibly the smartest being Tolys has ever met, clearly know that Tolys has lied to him, if just by omission.
âI met Queen SaulÄ, as we fled north,â Eduard eventually says, voice soft. âThey said she had eyes like the plains of her kingdom, but they reminded me of the forest I left behind.â
Tolys lowers his own eyes. He studies the elegant woodgrain of this desk, that had stood here for all that time. It must have been protected somehow, and it wouldnât surprise him if Eduard himself had placed the guarding charms.
âI know you looked familiar.â
With a sigh, he meets Eduardâs eye.
âI am the first in a long time, my father has told me, to have her eyes.â He tucks his hair away. âHe saw it as a sign, especially after the Elves went south. Itâs an age for reclaiming, he said.â
âMaybe, he was right,â Eduard says, looking thoughtful. âWhen Vilnius fell and your people were exiled like mine, the north came to their aid. We werenât many and couldnât fight for the realm, but we have since preserved the symbols of Queen SaulÄâs power. Your familyâs power.â
âWhat?â Tolys blurts. In his shock, he nearly topples of his stool, and Eduard grasps his arm, fingers cool through his fine green tunic. He smiles.
âThat is what your father wants you to find, isnât it?â
Tolys nods, wide-eyed.
âMy people will bring the Sunstaff south. You may take it, and we would send Elves with you to take Vilnius, if you wish.â
âThatânoâbut.â Tolys takes a very deep breath. âIâve lied to you. I lied to the Queen. Will Nadzeya evenââ
Eduard ducks his head, clearing his throat. The pointed tips of his ears flush.
âI lied,â Tolys repeats faintly. Raivis knew, because just wanted to help, butâŚ
âYes, you did, but itâs no matter.â Again, Eduard clears his throat, and he finally removes his hand from Tolysâs arm to adjust his eyeglasses. âNot when your lie was no greater than any of ours.â
âWhat do you mean?â
He keeps fiddling with his glasses. The gesture is endearing, strangely.
âI hope⌠I hope you can forgive usâme. It would be a terrible loss to lose yourâŚâ He meets Tolysâs gaze, his eyes like sea-glass, strong yet brittle and colored like a quiet tide. âCompanionship.â
âNadzeya isnât the Queen, is she?â
âNadzeya is a northern noble. Her brother and sister followed my brother as he rode out.â
âYour brother.â
âI tried to stop him, but he was so young, barely an adult when we left the south. I always knew he would be the one to lead the quest, and I think I always knew I would lose him for it.â
âYour brother led the Elves?â Tolys feels quite heavy as the understanding of what this means dawns on him. âYour brother was the Prince-in-exile.â
âHe was.â He sighs. âAnd a stubborn fool, too.â
âBut that means youâŚâ He bites his lip. âErzsĂŠbet is the Queen.â
âIndeed. We decided to travel incognito.â
There had been some skirmishes on the road, nasty traveling beasts and Men who always went for Nadzeya on her horse, attracted to her gown and jewels even if they werenât aware she was the supposed Queen. Tolys had thought it seemed inadvisable to travel with such a small party, at least at first. ErzsĂŠbet, who not only had mourning inks but also warriorâs lines and scars across her body, could probably have fought all the enemies off by herself, especially because they never paid attention to her, but Tolys was glad to help, and Nadzeya defended herself admirably with an innate magic that hurt Tolysâs eyes and head whenever he tried to look at the crackling darkness.
More than before, he feels for Nadzeya, because her position in this was one where she could be killed, and she had evidently taken that risk willingly.
Eduard wasnât much of a fighter, but he held his own, and so did Raivis, much to the Elvesâ surprise. Tolys already knew Halflings were a hardy folk.
âBut⌠Why put any of you in danger like that?â he asks. âWhy not travel with the larger caravan, or pretend none of you were royalty?â
Eduard smiles wryly, pushing his short hair away from his handsome face.
âIt was known the Queen would travel southârumors have wingsâand the larger caravan will also have an Elf pretend to be her. It was mainly ErzsĂŠbetâs idea to go swiftly, before the enemies gather larger groups.â He sighs. âI am sorry I couldnât tell you. I donât wish to lose your trust.â
Tolys reaches across the desk, although he refrains from touching the Elven clerk.
âYou havenât.â
And, really, it is easy to see how this was the best decision given the circumstances, similar to how he hid the nature of his own quest from the Elves. Eduard looks at his hand, the rough fingers so different to his own slender ones. With a curious frown, he touches them quickly.
âThen, I thank you, Tolys of Vilnius.â
âThank you,â he breathes in return, gaze flicking to the scroll again.
âI would be honored to come with you, of course,â Eduard continues, adjusting his glasses again. âIf you would have me.â
Tolys wasnât lying, earlier. He looks younger with the spectacles. A little less ethereal, more like someone warm and trustworthy, as he truly is.
âI would be honored to share it with you, Eduard.â He curls his fingers, grazing Eduardâs warm palm.
For a while, they are both silent, gently touching across the desk. Eduard is smiling absently, those light eyes shimmering in the sunlight as it dims ever so slightly. Tolys cannot wait to show him his home; even though it will be next to nothing compared to this place, even in disrepair as the kingdom is, he will be proud to share it with the Elf.
âOh!â Eduard says. âI had nearly forgotten. I promised ErzsĂŠbet to take you and Raivis to her. She would like to extend the official friendship of the Elves to both of your people.â
âI left Raivis with Nadzeya.â He blinks. âSo she isnât royalty at all?â
An amused little smirk crosses Eduardâs lips, and Tolys breathes out slowly, curling his fingers a little more.
âWhat is it?â
âIf ErzsĂŠbet has any say in it, she will be.â Suddenly, he frowns, peering over his glasses. âYou left Raivis with Nadzeya?â
âIâm certain heâll be fine. Heâs tough.â
Eduard looks dubious, but he stands and gestures for Tolys to follow him to the grand door of the library. It has turned dusky, and the light filters through leaves to tinge his pale hair gold and his eyes almost translucent as he stands in the arch of the doorway. There, he turns to Tolys, bowing a little to bring their faces level.
âThank you,â he says, voice soft and Elven accent giving the words a musical lilt.
âFor what?â
âBeing here.â He touches Tolysâs upper arm, letting his long fingers linger. âLetting me know you.â
âOf course.â
The fingers slowly trail up to his shoulder, sliding across the smooth green fabric until the tips touch his clavicle. Tolys reaches his own hand up and covers Eduardâs with it. The Elf rests their foreheads together for a moment that feels like a promise.
Just then, they both hear ErzsĂŠbetâs distinctive laugh, echoing merrily over the carved walkways. Both of them straighten to see her coming their way, her face bright and an intricate crown of golden leaves resting on her dark hair.
âMy friends!â she says, and is hauling Tolys into a hug before he can even greet her, let alone think of bowing. âIâm so glad to see our secret has not put a strain on your friendship.â
There is an emphasis on friendship that Tolys doesnât imagine for a second is the product of her accent.
âIt couldnât have, when my own secrets are similar, YourâŚâ
âJust call me ErzsĂŠbet. Eduard was right, then? We will be equals before long.â She smiles. âAnd Iâm certain my cousin will be glad to help you, should you so desire.â
âErzsĂŠbet,â Eduard says, sounding long-suffering and not at all like a Crown Prince, which he is and Tolys will be soon enough. His cheeks are getting red. Tolys didnât know Elves blushed, but finds that he would like to see it more often. It is mesmerizing.
âThere you are,â come Nadzeyaâs dry tones from the direction of Tolysâs temporary home. He hears the distinctive tread of Raivisâs bare feet approaching behind her nearly inaudible footsteps, and when they come into view, the Halfling bow slightly towards ErzsĂŠbet.
âYour Majesty.â
âI tried to tell him ErzsĂŠbet would be fine,â Nadzeya informs the Queen, and ErzsĂŠbet laughs again.
âCome, we have much to talk about. Much to plan.â She gestures all of them along. Eduard touches Tolysâs wrist. Raivis catches his gaze, quirks his eyebrows and grins.
Tolys smiles back and runs his fingers along the back of Eduardâs hand. It appears the journey was worth it.

Alexa, Cause Problems
Here is my @aphsecretsanta gift for @phyripo. Iâm so sorry itâs late, Iâm sorry itâs short.
Words: 938
Pairing: BelarusxEstonia
Prompt: creepy costume party, partners in crime
-
The room looked stately, a room fit for a nationâs party. The wooden walls were engraved with swirling patterns surrounding old paintings of important citizens long dead, the ceiling was painted and embellished in gold, every piece of furniture was made of oak or walnut. Nadzeya felt certain she had been here before, but couldnât bother remembering when.
She stormed down the hallway looking for her date. He was supposed to have met her by the front doors so they could enter together, but he was late. Waiters and guests got out of her way as Nadzeya moved down the hallway to the next room. The expression on her face paired with her costume warned anyone against trying to interact with her, especially in such a black mood.
She had worked hard on her costume. The bloody bandages on her fingers at least matched the frosty forest spirit aesthetic she was going for. Nadzeya had never been one to make her own clothes, but when Eduard had asked her to accompany him to the party, she knew she had to do everything she could to look the best. And she did. The glittery blue makeup under her pupiless eyes and the tastefully placed swan feathers turned heads, dropped jaws, and sent shivers up spines. Exactly as planned.
The door swung open and she jumped back just in time to not be hit by it. On the other side stood Eduard, the man sheâd been looking for. But what was he wearing?
âWhere have you been?â She snapped. âWe were supposed to meet by the doors.â
âOh, uh, sorry. I got caught up in something. Could you get everyone into this room in about fifteen minutes?â Eduard gently pushed past Nadzeya to walk in the direction sheâd come from, and she followed.
She shrugged. âProbably. But first, you have to tell me why. And how a black cylinder is creepy,â Nadzeya said, frowning at his costume.
Eduard looked down at himself. He was indeed wearing a not-very-creepy black cylinder, from his knees to his neck. The top was covered in a ring of blue lights, and the hood of his sweatshirt covered much of his face. âIâm Alexa.â
âWho?â Nadzeya spat. The name sounded feminine, but the costume didn't fit what she was picturing. Was it from a game? Was it a meme? She didnât typically follow pop culture, but that usually didn't have any effect on her understanding of things. Unlike now.
"What," Eduard corrected. "You know, that personal assistant AI everyone is talking about?"
"Everyone is not talking about it."
"Maybe not in your part of the world." Nadzeya shot him a withering look, and he quickly amended his remark. "I mean - not the people who share your interests. The people I talk to - tech people - talk about it a lot, and how unsettled it makes them. So it fits the theme, right?"
"Sure," Nadzeya agreed, still not entirely convinced. "I'm a zazovka," she offered to answer Eduard's unasked question. "It's a forest spirit who lures men into the woods."
"And what does she do with them?"
"Take a guess," she said. She turned with a soft rustling of skirts and feathers and walked away, Eduard close behind.
It was easy herding all the guests into one room. Promises of better alcohol, pretty girls, and juicy gossip lured most in, and those left behind came too just to see what was so special about the second chamber.
There wasn't anything special, really.Â
The music was live, sure, and there was seating and snacks in the new room, but it wasn't enough of a draw to keep everyone in.Â
The lights started to flicker. Eduard looked to Nadzeya and grinned. He had explained his plan to her, and she wholeheartedly agreed to it. It would liven up the party a bit, if something interesting happened.
The band's microphones stopped working at the same time their amplifiers began giving off awful feedback. Whispers and muffled voices came from the speakers, seemingly created by no one. Everyone, predictably, began freaking out, but Nadzeya had already barred the doors. No one was getting out.
"Czech!" She heard America shout, "I thought you said there are no ghosts here!"
Nadzeya scoffed loudly, and he looked over to her. Eduard had disappeared again. "There aren't any ghosts here. Even if there were any here, they've already left. This is something different." It didn't soothe America's fears (it wasn't supposed to), but it did start a murmuring amongst the nations, wondering what else it could be if not ghosts. Some other supernatural being? Something worse?
No. It was just Eduard, messing with the castle's wifi.Â
Clear voices began coming out of the speakers. "This party blows." "Why was she invited again?" "I can't believe he's already drunk." "Does no one really want to talk about how we're on the verge of economic collapse again?" "I can't stand him, always thinking he's better than us. He isn't."
Everyone stood silently, stricken at hearing what they thought were private conversations being played publicly to the crowd. Though the statements were vague, it was obvious who the speakers were.Â
The lights flicked back on, and the band tentatively resumed playing while the crowd devolved into chaos, arguing over who said what and why. Nadzeya casually opened the door as Eduard reappeared beside her.
"Good work," she said as they strode down the hall. "It was getting a little too friendly in there. You always were the best at bugging places."
"Well, it's gotten easier with time," Eduard blushed. "I told you Alexa was a good creepy costume."
-
Notes: the location of the party is here. Estoniaâs costume is this.

Two Lucas? Drama at Lu-topia!
Luca Morgens- Luxembourg
Tolli- Iceland
Luca Rotaru- Moldova (copyright @phyripoâ˘)
Plus a LadKug cameo
âŚ
File name is âLuca discourse ⢠meta â˘â.
Based on the rather amusing coincidence of myself and @phyripo giving each half of LuxMold the name Luca, but hey, people share names all the time (Iâve known about 10 James for one). Kind of a silly jokefic based on that (the only other idea I had was adult them having a running joke of âI canât believe you called your own name during sexâ but Iâm still trying to regain the dignity lost in the NSFW OTP challenge soooâŚ). This isnât supposed to be all that in-character, by the way. Itâs just me trying to be funny.
This is short and stupid and I donât know why I keep coming up with LuxMold high school Aus⢠of all things⌠theyâre just around that age, I guess. Also itâs set in an English high school because Iâm lazy like that.
Anyway, hope @phyripo and the 5 or so other LuxMold shippers like this⌠thing.
Can we just settle this discourse by agreeing I am the alpha Luca? (Okay Iâm a Luka bUT OHWELL).
âŚ
Luca Morgens was almost certain he was not meant to be here.
Since when did he get detention? Well, there was that time he turned up to school hungover, forgetting he had a two-hour chemistry lesson about alcohols of all things, and promptly throwing up all over his notes. That had been the grimmest day of his life so far, in all honesty.
But aside from that- !- heâd never gotten a detention in his life- and the previous event had actually resulted in a weekâs suspension and a concerned phonecall to his brother anyway, so technically his slate was still spotless.
So why the hell had his form tutor only today informed him of a monthâs worth of detentions- starting with this one right here. How? What could he have possibly done to warrant a whole month of his life spent writing lines after school as punishment?
Seriously, what had he done?
It was the art teacher heâd cheesed off, apparently, given that he was now surrounded by drying racks and A1 sized card paintings, mostly depicting detailed and often surreal portraits, and then his own vase of flowers, inspired by the likes of Jan Brueghel the elder and Ambrosius Bosschaert, and others from the Dutch Golden Age. It was with great amusement that heâd linked his brotherâs own love of gardening to the Dutch Flowers movement and thus his inspiration for GCSE art- though actually painting in such detail was a challenge heâd not quite grasped until it came to practicing his own paintings. But boy had it been a struggle to finish every little detail in two days.
All in all, Luca was proud of the work heâd put into his final piece, finished only today at the end of a grueling, two-day exam, so why the hell was he here? He didnât like getting in trouble, not in the slightest, and hadnât done anything to offend Mr Kirkland. Well, not deliberately.
âThe hell did you do?â
The teacher had yet to arrive, and so far there were only three- now four- students waiting for him: Luca, two strange-looking pipsqueaks from a few years below him, and now his mate Tolli. To be honest, they only really talked in the art and history lessons they shared, but the boy seemed nice enough.
And apparently had been discovered to be the one who changed every desktop screen in the graphics design computer room to a picture of Robbie Rotten. Oh well. Heâd tried to get away with it.
âI donât know,â he hissed back as the guy sat next to him, âseriously, what could I have done to tick the fellow off?â
âI donât know,â Tolli gave a little shrug, âI canât remember anything ya did⌠Are you crying?â
ââŚNo.â
âWere ya crying?â
âMaybe,â Luca almost sobbed.
Tolliâs eyebrows knotted together. âYou cried⌠over a detention?â
âThat a problem?â Yes, yes heâd cried over his first ever detention, okay? Not only was it a new experience for him, but heâd somehow done something so bad-
How did a person even get a monthâs worth of detention? What did they have to fuck up to get that result? Luca was almost impressed at himself.
âWhat about those two?â Tolli nodded over at the pair of what were clearly future art students- one had tied his hair in multicoloured ribbons and the other somehow had paint on his face. Not that Luca had particularly cared to people watch at that moment in time. They seemed a little couply though, practically on each otherâs laps as they cuddled.
âDonât know.â
âWhatâre ye in for?â he called to the pair.
âPainting nudes for homework,â paint-face called back.
Okay. Luca was officially done with trying to understand young people. Yes, he was only sixteen but anyone younger was beyond reasoning now. Then again, the inner mechanisms of Mr Kirklandâs mind could be a complete mystery too.
âOh! I got it!â Tolli snapped his fingers for emphasis, âLuca Rotaru!â
âMorgens. Iâm Luca Morgens, remember?â Christ, had Tolli been paying that little attention to his life?
Tolli just raised an eyebrow at that. âNo, Luca Rotaru in year nine!â
âWho?â There was another Luca in the school? Now that he thought of it, it was hardly some miraculous coincidence. Luca wasnât the rarest of names.
âReally?â For some reason, Tolli looked absolutely astounded at his friendâs ignorance. âI barely care and even I know about Rotaru.â
âWhy? Is he famous or something?â He either had celebrities for parents or had set fire to his previous school. Luca was hoping for the latter, to an extent.
âFamous for being weird as shit,â Tolli was saying, âheâs that kid who brought in a real live hamster and set it loose in the greenhouse, remember?â
âOh, that guy.â Nice to place a name to an incident.
Tolli just looked like he was happy to be getting somewhere. âYes, that guy. The one who drew a pentagram in the gym. That guy. Doesnât own a pair of underwear guy. Claims his brother knows how to summon Satan guy.â
âHe sounds⌠disturbed.â Maybe he had burnt down his previous school after all, and a hospital, an Aldi and a couple nursing homes. Also what the actual fuck was wrong with this kid?
âHe probably is. I donât think he has parents.â
âDoes that really excuse vandalism?â
Tolli just shrugged.
Maybe he had something more to say, but Mr Kirklandâs arrival prevented him from speaking another word, like why the hell were they talking about a wannabe Satanist and how did they get onto the subject?
âSeparate tables,â Mr Kirkland growled in greeting, indicating to the pair of now rather dejected duos. Well detention sure sounded fun. Luca wanted to crawl under a pile of paintings and cry.
âMorgens, what are you doing here?â
Being miserable and a little ashamed of himself. âI donât actually know, sir.â Might as well be honest- and at least this way he could get some answers. Unless Mr Kirkland decided the best course of action was to fly off the rails for no reason, like teachers tended to do.
But Mr Kirkland just ran a hand through his hair with a groan. âThat may be because youâre not meant to be here at all.â
âIâm not?â What was this? A song in his heart? A cloud beneath him? A light spring breeze in his hair?
âNo, it seems your name mustâve been mixed with anotherâs at some point.â Mr Kirkland seemed unwilling to name names, but Luca could guess who the real hooligan was.
âSo I can take my leave now?â he asked, causing yet another eye roll from Tolli.
âYes you may; sorry for keeping you, lad.â
âŚ
Well, that was the other Luca, supposedly.
Luca M. hadnât been too sure what he was expecting, but a scruffy borderline feral fourteen year old wandering about a crowded school corridor seemed about right. Very little of what Luca R. was wearing seemed to be the correct school uniform, but given his track record, that probably wasnât the schoolâs biggest concern for once.
Everything about him screamed tryhard, needless eccentricities though, from the necklace made of old Halloween fangs, to the fur coat whose original owner might have had the mange, to the somewhat disturbing lack of shoes. Did he⌠not come to school with shoes? Did he even own a pair? He, apparently, went out of the way to buy his own miniature hat, so why not even a cheap pair?
Was this even something he could find out? Luca M. couldnât exactly ask such a thing in polite conversation.
Besides, he had a job to do and should honestly stop staring at the kid from afar because it probably looked creepy.
âHey,â he called, keeping his voice as soft yet audible as possible, âLuca Rotaru, right?â
Luca R. jumped at that, spinning round slightly and glancing up with a pair of massive doe eyes, like heâd been caught taking ecstasy, or was a cat begging for food. It probably wouldâve been cuter if he was a manga character, as opposed to a real life teenage boy.
âUm, yes? Oh gosh, what have I done now?â
âErm, nothing,â Luca M. replied in surprise. Well, nothing he actually knew of that recently happened. Even the hamster incident had been a month or so ago.
âOh, hello,â he held out a hand awkwardly, âIâm Luca Morgens.â
The adorable edgelord smiled at that. âHello fellow Luca!â The way he said that made Luca M. wonder if the kid was about to ask him to join a secret cult of people named Luca.
Could they drink at cult meetings? Because he might consider it (exam season had more or less broken him at this point).
âWell, erm,â he licked his lips trying to find the right words, âyour presence is required at⌠erm, well, detention with Mr Kirkland. For the next month.â
âOh.â Luca R. seemed to deflate at that, giving a half-hearted shrug that ruffled the remaining fur on his coat. âI suppose I had it coming.â
âWhat did you even do?â The words were out of Luca Mâs mouth before he could stop them. âI mean, if you donât mind my ask-â
âI tried to make a new mother in art,â Luca R. explained, âand one of the kids in my class called me a dickhead so I punched him.â
âAh.â Almost cute. If cute was tragic mixed with unnerving.
âWhy did sit ask you to deliver the message though?â asked Luca R. as the other Luca turned to leave. Oh.
âThere was a mixup,â he explained, âprobably something to do with us being the only âLucaâs in the school.â Or to his knowledge, at least.
âOh you didnât have to sit my detention, did you?â Luca R. looked horrified at the thought, a hand shooting up to cover his mouth.
âNot at all; it was all sorted out fine,â Luca M. tried his best to look reassuring, but wasnât sure discount Luca actually believed him.
âOh Iâm so sorry.â Now they were holding hands⌠why? Luca R. sure had a sweet side to him, hidden somewhere under the weird. âLet me make it up to you!â
âReally, itâs-â
âNo, I feel really bad about it.â His little bottom lip started wobbling, and Luca M. simply sighed.
âWe can hang out sometime, if thatâs okay with you.â A rather simple but ingenious plan was beginning to form in his head: if he befriended Luca R, he could buy him a pair of shoes for his birthday.
âYeah! That sounds really fun, Luca!â

A ghost haunted the NewFont Press.
Or, just the building at least.
It started when bags of coffee and packed lunches started disappearing from the cafeteria. Then, the printer started printing items all by itself, usually pages completely blacked-out by ink, until a printing error (and someoneâs collection of pens stuffed into the feed) made it useless altogether. The lightsâ flickering used to be a normal thing â they couldnât afford better lighting â until there were blackouts almost every week.
Eduard couldnât believe it.
Sure, the inconsistent coffee in the cafeteria irritated him, and the way his computer monitor would be covered with colorful post-it notes with looping scribbles overnight was a pain to remove, but he couldnât quite believe that something supernatural haunted the various cubicles and offices. And, despite the fact that he did a personal blog of his own, he wasnât a journalist. He was just some random IT guy, there to make sure that the NewFont website didnât collapse on itself. He didnât have that mystical passion to investigate the living daylights out of a subject like a few higher-up journalists employed there.
He didnât want to believe it.
So, perhaps sitting with Natalya Arlovskaya during lunch that particular Friday afternoon was a big mistake on his (beliefâs) part.
Normally, he didnât eat at the cafeteria. His cubicle was a perfectly good enough eating space, or if he wanted to splurge a little he went down to his cousin Tuomiâs place. But, after multiple conversations with peers outside of work concerning his introverted nature (and maybe a bet on whether he can make friends or not), he mustered up the courage to finally bring his homemade lunch there. No, he was not trying to prove a point. He was simply⌠Trying new venues.
⌠Even if he didnât want to.
Nevertheless, the only reason he decided sitting with Natalya was a good idea was that she was sitting by herself in her small, circular table. Eduard himself knew the loneliness of sitting alone at a table. So, after some inner debate (did it have to be her, isnât anyone else better), he unpacked his small lunch box then and there.
He didnât know much about the journalist. All Eduard heard about Natalya was that she wrote about the local crime in the city as one of the few investigative journalists on the Press. The gossip said that she had familial troubles at home, which was why she came early and worked late. A more toxic rumor speculated that she had an intimate relationship with her half-brother, but no one wanted to know for sure. For all he knew, Natalya was just like him: shy, lonesome, and lacking in social grace.
That wasnât quite the case with Natalya Arlovskaya.
Six minutes into the lunch break, the lights blinked out. A few employees looked up at the ceiling concerned, but otherwise, no one made a fuss.
Unconcerned with the lights, Natalya checked her watch. She then took out a little notepad and a pen, and she wrote something down.
Curious, Eduard asked, âWhatâs that for?â
She stopped writing, violet eyes flicking up.
â⌠You mean this?â She asked, waving the notepad a little. She didnât respond to Eduardâs nod at first, but after a moment she wrote something else down and spoke again. âIâm marking times.â
âTimes?â
âWhen the lights go out.â Natalya checked her watch. âI donât think I caught your name, misterâŚ?â
âvon Bock, ma'am. Eduard von Bock.â Ed took another bite of lunch. âWhatâs it for?â
âThe ghost.â
Eduard almost choked on his food. He suppressed his coughs until he could breathe properly, all while Natalya looked on. Did he hear her right? âIâm sorry, what?â
Natalya narrowed her eyes at him. âIf you think Iâm crazy, you donât have to sit by me. I never asked you to.â
âNo, no!â He couldnât lose this! âNo, Iâm just⌠Curious, you know? Why you think the lights going out has to do with ghosts.â
Natalya dubiously stared at Eduard for a little longer (he swore he felt chills from those cold, blue eyes) before sighing. âItâs just one ghost, von Bock. They seem to cause electrical problems wherever they go, with enough tangibility to hold onto items. Thus, the missing coffee.â
â⌠Why would it steal coffee?â Eduard asked, unsure.
âThe same reason we drink it: they like the taste.â She closed her notebook and put it away. âI doubt it means any maliciousness, or else it wouldâve killed someone already.â
⌠What?
âThat⌠That sounds great,â Eduard coughed awkwardly. Maybe it wasnât too late to switch seats. âWhat are you planning to do about it.â
Natalya nodded. âI plan to catch the ghost.â
⌠Wait. âCatch?â Eduard repeated, eyes wide. She wasnât serious, was she? How could she catch something that didnât exist?
âOf course. Tonight, perhaps.â She raised an eyebrow at him. âI donât like working with a faulty computer and without coffee.â
The lights soon blinked on.
âIf youâd like, you could join me,â Natalya offered. âI wouldnât mind the help.â
One small problem Eduard had was the fact he worked a little too hard. As in, he worked longer than he was supposed to. A combination of tunes, pressing deadlines, and a lack of need to go home usually made him work for hours on end after lunch. Maybe the sticker on top of the clock on his desktop was also at fault (it wasnât his fault he liked to watch the time until lunch), but that wasnât the case right now.
He only thought about leaving when the automatic lights turned off.
Startled from his work, he checked the time on his phone. âFive forty?â He whispered to himself. Forty minutes of unpaid work. For the second time this week, he cursed himself for not having any friends; if he had some, he wouldâve had some incentive to get out of work or have someone to remind him to go home. Sighing, he saved his work on the computer and closed it down.
He walked with his bag down semi-dark hallways. It wasnât too dark since the building had lots of windows for evening sunlight to stream in. Eduard took a flight downstairs and almost entered the lobbyâ
â just to see an eery light mutely shining from a room.
Now that got Eduardâs curiosity piqued. This section of the building, opposite of the entrances, was one of the darkest places of the office with no artificial light. And even if the overhead lights were on, the spooky blue light wouldâve probably overshone everything else. Eduardâs conversation with Natalya about ghosts came to his mind, but he shook it away. No, it couldnât be a ghost.
⌠Or could it?
In any case, it couldâve been something else. Like a burglar. No doubt there was someone out there who wanted to infiltrate the building to find more inside scoops. If anyone was there, he could just call emergency services. It was his duty, as an employee of NewFont Press, to protect the building where he worked.
With that excuse bolstering his courage, he approached the room.
He was about to peek into the room when an unholy screech made him jump.
âLet me GO, witch!â An unfamiliar voice shrieked. âYou cannot hold me forever!â
âIâm inclined to disagree,â a surprisingly familiar voice replied in a cool monotone. âI will keep you captive for as long as it takesââ
â⌠What in the world?â
Eduard clamped his hands over his mouth just as he said the words. It was too late, however; both persons in the room heard him.
If Eduard could remember correctly, this room held one of the many copying machines in the office building. However, the room was not being used for its intended purpose; instead, while the copying machine, a table, and two chairs were pushed to the side, Natalya Arlovskaya was sitting cross-legged in front of a large blue circle, the source of light Eduard had previously seen. Inside the circle was a young man furiously banging on invisible walls and three cans of coffee grounds, one in which was already spilling its contents onto the ground. Lit candles surrounded the circle, but their light couldnât compete with the circle, which seemed to be outlined with chalk.
But now that Eduardâs presence had been announced, both Natalya and the man had stopped their argument to stare at Eduard.
Natalyaâs eyebrows rose. âAh, how convenient.â
The man started banging on the invisible walls again. âOh stranger, I implore you to help me! This madwoman has trapped me against my will with her black arts and IÂ beg of you, free meââ
âHush,â Natalya snapped, and the man went silent. She then turned to Eduard. âvon Bock. Iâm glad you could join us.â
âWhatâs going on?â He asked, his voice steadily rising in pitch. That other man in the circle, that couldnât beâ
âI caught our ghost,â Natalya said as if it was the most normal thing ever. âCare to join?â
The supposed ghost huffed. âDonât join her side. Iâm the victim here, she caught me!â
Eduard couldnât speak.
âI can very easily exorcise you, you know.â Natalya turned to face the ghost, her expression cross. âBut if you can cooperate, we can make a deal. Is that clear?â
The ghost seemed to hesitate at the word âexorciseâ, but then he turned away with a defiant sniff. Â "Oh, please. As if you could help me.â
Natalya grit her teeth."I can very well try.â
Eduard shook his head. This was all too much to handle. âWait, wait, wait. Could everyone just stop for a moment?â He pleaded, putting his hands up. Whether it was in surrender or in command, even Eduard himself couldnât tell. âPlease?â
The ghost rolled his eyes. âAh, great. Iâm trapped with Miss Witch and Mister Incompetent. Fabulous. I swear I canât go anywhere without a bit of peace and quiet.â
The nickname made Eduard sputter. âWh-Why, youâ!â
Natalya gripped onto the hem of her shirt. Even her patience was running thin. âGhost, perhaps you should start speaking about your reason here to make your exit from the world less painful.â
âLess painful, eh?â The ghost snorted. âSure, anythingâs better than having a building full of idiots sitting on top of me.â
âSittingâŚ?â Eduard mumbled, thinking. He then gasped in realization. âWait⌠Are we on your grave?â
âHave been for twenty-seven whole years,â the ghost snarked. âAnd it kinda hurts, thank you for asking.â
Twenty-seven years⌠Eduard was surprised that the building was that old. But had they really erroneously erected a building on top of a grave? Did they even know?
âWe canât remove a building for you alone,â Natalya said. âIâm sorry if it is the only way to put your soul to rest.â
âWell thatâs just dandy. Then I guess Iâll keep stealing your coffee.â The ghost angrily picked up the spilling can of coffee grounds, plopped himself down away from Eduard and Natalya, and scooped coffee grounds into his mouth. The act both intrigued Eduard and disgusted him.
âSo⌠What are we going to do with him?â Eduard whispered, kneeling down. He kept watching the ghost eat the coffee beans in mortified fascination.
âI might as well exorcise him,â Natalya whispered back. âHe will keep on causing issues with the Press until our bosses decide to do something. And that,â her voice dropped lower in disdain, âwill not happen soon.â
âBut isnât that the equivalent of killing him?â
Natalya looked up at Eduard, looking impressed. âLook at you, being concerned for a ghost you denied hours ago.â
Eduard gulped. Well, she was right. He really had no reason to feel sorry for a ghost that he didnât believe in before all this drama. But there had to be some way to ease the ghostâs pain if only for the exorcismâŚ
âDo you have any more coffee cans?â
Natalya made a face. â⌠There should be more upstairs, why?â
Eduard shrugged. âJust a thought.â
And just like that, the ghost and six coffee cans (not including the opened one) vanished with a poof.
Natalya clapped her hands to get rid of the chalk dust on them. âExorcising a ghost is one thing, exorcising one with coffee is anotherâŚâ She sighed, a half smile on her face. âBut Iâd say that that was a success.â
Eduard massaged his arms. Carrying those cans had been a chore. âPlease tell me there arenât any more ghosts in this building.â
âThere shouldnât be.â Natalya tapped the floor with her boot. â⌠Unless we have more graves under here.â
âIâd rather move buildings at that point.â
âLikewise.â
There was a moment of silence. Eduard fiddled with the straps of his bag. Natalya stood with her arms crossed.
â⌠So.â Eduard sucked in a breath. âNow that thatâs over.â
Natalya raised an eyebrow. âDonât you have somewhere to go, von Bock?â
âNot necessarily.â Eduard shrugged. âI was actually thinking drinks.â
Natalya blinked in surprise. âExcuse me?â
Eduard exhaled a short laugh. That sounded awkward, now that he said it. âI mean, after all this, we could be considered friends now, donât you think? I know a place.â
âDo you now.â Despite the blunt, sarcastic statement, Natalya had a smile on her face. âI wouldnât mind. A drink would help me forget I had to deal with a bratty ghost.â
âHe was kind of bratty, wasnât he?â Eduard mused, mostly to himself.
After Natalya picked up her book bag (it hid below the table and held the necessary items to catch the ghost, along with her laptop), the two headed out. It was the beginning of a friendship, one that neither had expected, but it was friendship nonetheless.
(And it only took a bet and a ghost to meet.)
