The way you draw expressions is SO GOOD. Legend’s pain is palpable. And the blood making a smile in the last panel akskdkdndndnd You portrayed the horror I tried to convey in that scene perfectly and I’m going feral over it AAAAHHHH

Oh my gosh just the emotion and tension in each panel is exquisite. And the lighting, the perspective, the shot of his attackers leering at him, the symbols showing their chants ALDJDJSKFNSKFHD PERFECTION

Monster AU! I've had the idea for this comic for a while but couldn't choose the setting. Eventually I stopped at Monster School AU

Kaito and Maki are werewolfs and Shuichi is a vampire, but at first I was unsure of what creature to make Ouma.

I thought about making him a vampire for that classic werewolf-vampire rivalry, which would be even funnier because one of Momota's best friends is a vampire, but for some reason Ouma is different. I just imagine Kaito complaining about how annoying and pretentious vampires are. And Shuichi is just looking at him, so he's obviously like "Not you though! You're great! So much better than Ouma!". And Shuichi is like "Uhuh. R-righ..."

I also considered other things that kinda fit Kokichi. Like a genie, and he's doing his damned best to find loopholes and people's wordings to fulfill their wishes in the wrongest and most annoying way possible. Or making Ouma a fey — mischevous trickster that you need to be careful around.

Or, you know, some kind of demon, 'cause he really gives me the vibe of a mischevous (and sometimes malevolent) entity. Specifically chort/chertenok ("чёрт/чертёнок"), which is something close to an imp. Mischevous small demon that uses different tricks to cause problems but can often be outsmarted. I feel like he would enjoy testing if someone can see through his plan and beat him.

But then I got an idea of making him a ghost and everyting was settled. Because I can't think of anything funnier than ghost Kokichi in an oumota monster school AU. At first Momota was uttery terrified of him, and though he still feels uneasy, over time he got kinda used to him. They can even hang out when Kaito transfoms and becomes really dangerous, because Kokichi can just become fully intangible and so no matter what anybody tries to do, he's completely safe.

Trin! Now that I've discovered what's wrong with me, I think I'll be able to actually work on finishing your fan art😌

I would work on it and then barely get anything done, and then I'd have life stuff happen and then I'd finally get the motivation to work again but something about drawing in general was wrong I my would but now I know whats been bugging me so now there's more peace in my heart.(this paragraph doesn't make sense but I'm commiting to it lol)

Yeah charcoal is soooo difficult! My professor made us do our first two drawings in it and it was the bane of my existence. I’ve got a heavy hand and while I can manage some pretty light lines with say the more forgiving HB, with charcoal you can FORGET IT XD Every mistake was carved into that paper. It was horrible 😅

I can understand why the leftover charcoal was better. One of my charcoal sticks broke while I was working on a project and those little slivers were so much easier to use lol

Oof yeah that takes A LOT of layering. My darkest graphite pencil is 8B too. Honestly, I’d rather layer because it’s easier to adjust as you go. I’m sure it gets easier when you’ve got a better eye for the lighting and stuff. But while I’m still figuring out how to portray what I see with a full scale of values I’d rather be able to backpedal a bit 😅 Or darken for that matter

My class is…very hard lol. My professor’s a stickler (and a real jerk. He literally yelled at the class over midterms because our sketchbooks weren’t up to his standards). But I’ve found a nice classmate to chat with who’s really sweet and encouraging. And though I wanted to give up more than once with this last project I feel like it turned out really well. It was the first time I actually got praised during a critique 😅 Man did that feel good!

So it’s not all bad. I do feel like I’m learning and that makes me happy. Because although this isn’t my specific degree I’ve always loved art and I want to improve, even just for hobby purposes.

Anyway, I’d love to share some art! Here’s the project I turned in today.

Seriously, your shading is AMAZING. The way you layered it to simulate the texture of the frog’s skin is just awesome!

I’m curious, did you shade it solely with graphite? Or was there some soft charcoal in there? I know some pencils can get as dark as charcoal. Or at least very close

Yeah that frog drawing took me a good 16 hours to finish! I had like, a deadline fueled drawing bender and got it done in less than 2 days (a miracle for me) cus I told my sister I was shipping it out when in reality I hadn't even bought the paper lol

Its all graphite tho, no charcoal. I'm REALLY bad at charcoal tbh. It's too loose for my liking and I never bothered practicing enough to get consistently decent. I've only ever drawn one decent drawing with charcoal and it was made with a leftover tiny broken piece I found on the easel I used in class and it was GLORIOUS. I'll never have that divine leftover charcoal stick again🥲

I think the darkest graphite pencil I own is an 8B. So I just layered that sucker on for the blackest spots

Day 4: Regrets

I can never stop imagining Kaito after crushing Kokichi trying to wash blood from his hands, but the feeling never goes away no mater how hard he tries to get rid of it. He's scratching his skin, his troat is buring from coughing and choking on blood and tears. He feels like he's losing his mind.
