Meet My OCs: Irvin Etienne from KOTSAM/KOTDAN ( @keeperofthesunandmoon)

Name: Irvin Etienne

Age: 19

Pronouns: He/him

Height: 5 feet and 11 inches 

Hair Color: Black hair . 

Eye Color: Brown.

Family Background: 

Species: Lightning-Drakaina

Best Childhood Memory: It’s a bit of a mix bag. But during an ‘after show’ of a school play, one of the parents made this potato salad that he didn’t like. She saw him going to throw it away and ‘lectured’ him how it was rude to throw away someone’s  hardwork. So, he made himself eat it and got sick. (Literally.) Some of the kids made fun of him. He got pretty upset.

His parents aren’t necessarily the mushiest of people but Irvin knows they love him. And moments like this, where his dad cancelled a business dinner to stay home with him, give him a hot shower, and make him canned chicken noodle soup always showed  that. His parents found out the story the next day from one of his friends. His mom called up that other mom and Laid. It. Into. Her. Then a month later they made the time to take him to the special dinner they’d originally planned for him (but that’d been cancelled because he got sick). 

It was one of those things that kept him warm when his parents were so busy or couldn’t make an event. Sure, yeah, sometimes it got disappointing but he knew that at the end of the day, they always had his back. 

Favorite Color: Is the khaki color of cargo allowed? He’s not quite sure? Grey or blue, he  guesses. His mom used to pick a lot of his suits in those colors. 

Favorite Season: Any. Most his sports can be done indoors or outdoors. He’s flexible.

Cat or Dog: Sure! He thinks most animals are cute.

Chocolate or Vanilla: Chocolate

Sweet or Spicy: Sweet.

Coffee or Tea: He doesn’t really like either but he supposes he leans toward tea. 

Best Friend: Cressida Monroe. He wouldn’t call her  his best friend but he really likes Thalia. They have a strong vibe. 

Love Interest: Leon Dalton.

What Initially Attracted Them to Their Partner?: Leon is cute.

And not just physically. Sure, he noticed that but Irvin actually was crushing on Thalia  when Leon came in being his cute self. He’s cute in ways people don’t consider Leon Dalton being cute. Irvin finds Leon’s sweetness to be overwhelmingly so adorable. 

He also thinks it is cute how Leon acts like he’s Too COOL For School but is really just an adorkable goober. He just has a fondness that radiates from his chest whenever he looks upon Leon, and Irvin decided to follow that sensation.

How Do They Express Affection (are they a hugger? More private?): He is relentlessly supportive. He’s more of a sit by your side, give you a shoulder to cry on, is a great listener sort than a hugger. But if that’s what you need, then he’ll give it a go. He’s flexible. His affection is encouraging and supportive and willing to meet you where you need, but also not looking to let you skulk off on your own. He’s your friend and he’s there for you whether you like it or not. I would say Irvin is probably Quality Time with a strong dash of Words of Affirmation (and a willingness toward acts of service; but that last is a more general the boy’s a hero sense). 

Do they Have/Want Children? How Many?: He’s not sure, he thinks maybe one day. It’s not something he really thinks about right now outside of a vague ‘man, i have great parents, i hope im as good as them one day.’ 

Any Pets?: Nope.

Do They Have a Temper?: One would not think he did, at all. But Reyna could attest to the contrary. It’s there. It’s just that Irvin is so sweet and supportive and kind that it’s hard to miss, but if he gets pushed hard enough … it flares like a wildfire. Let sleeping dragons lie, exists for a good reason.

Hobbies?: Sports! 

Do They Hold Grudges?: Generally, no. 

One Random Headcanon: He doesn’t like clowns.

1) Something this character is truly proud of.

Kendis: NOT giving into the urge to stab Rayna in the eye? Kendis would say that she's truly proud of everything they do, because everything they do is wonderful. EXCEPT it is probably something to do with baking. Maybe solo and skillfully managing a many tiered cake? Take that Paul Hollywood!

Irvin: Either something sports related -- OH. A time he made Cressy laugh outloud to a joke that also had Thalia cackling. It was a two-for-one, making Cressida crack up and finding a joke that these two unique young would would both find hilarious.

11) This character’s favorite piece or pieces of clothing.

Kendis: She loves a good suit. Something like this (but affordable). Or boots like this.

Irvin: My dude. You know his style is ugly. Why are you even asking swsdfdsa roflmao. It's just a white hane's and some jeans. It's these tweet. It is probably this shirt.

21) Their fondest childhood memory

Kendis: Not to be lazy, but anything with her mom. They only had each other and love each other fiercely. I can imagine her mom being a fierce cheerer during sporting events though (Kendis played baseball).

Irvin: Not to take a cop out (again), but I really don't think I could do better than this one.

Lemme toss you two of my darlings!

Idina is my IF bicycle a little bit, she's a wee lesbian of 5'2" who manages to keep stumbling into relationships with quiet, pensive people. She's a social butterfly with loads of creativity and a love for nature (in her own independent canon she's a professional photographer), often daydreaming or humming to herself. She's a proud little thing, though, and takes it very personally when told she's made a mistake. She stammers when she's flustered though, and she's got cute freckles.

And Daesung, my second Keeper! He's a beautiful pansexual himbo, generally acts long before he thinks. He was a jock in high school (and still is lol), and he's always ready to put his friends before his other responsibilities like homework and such. He's got a lovely smile, hes about 5'10", and he adores his mama. He's either going to be a magician or a drakaina, but either way I think he's gonna have an ice affinity!

Me realizing I have so little quiet and pensive femmes lmao.

My brain has cycled to put Idina with Xhyera, Spencer, Emile, or Anouck. However, I think it might be Della, my Body Count MC.

Della isn't quiet but ze can be pensive! They're both social butterfilies and I feel Della would just bask in / enjoy / encourage her creativity. She would find Idina's daydreamy quality sweet I think. It isn't her typical type but I think this difference in their usual would do them both good. I think Del's encouraging but fun nature would make Idina feel better about being wrong? And Della is SUCH a flirt, so those freckles are gonna be made bold by the heat on them cheeks.

Goodness, my automatic is Irvin. LMAO. Jock Keepers who are sunshiney and support their friends and love their parents unite!! I feel like they'd be great together. But my automatic is to try and find balance. I think he would do well with a teen!Andy

Though teen Andy has burdens on his shoulders (and dark times in his heart), he's a lot looser and easier to smile. He's softer and more openly mischevious, engaging in pranks. And though it looks like he leaps first, he's still got that vigilence -- that watchfulness. It just isn't as honed and is under the weight of teenager impulsiveness. But he'd make sure that Dae took care of himself and learn to self-prioritize.

Now that I'm properly able to play KOTSAM I've got all sorts of kids on the brain again, so here's two questions for you! How did your Keepers take to fighting various monsters all of a sudden after being brought to the school, and separately, which of your kids has a good sense of direction?

omgoodness, tell me tell me tell me! i had to stop at FOUR. because that's all i can balance right now until all the books are out. and because i havent decided if i want to do an mc for each route (AHHHH! realmonsters) or if i want to overlap mcs (like og had planned nicola for sera or kol / irvin for thalia.)

sense of direction: (i don't even recall but basing from personalities and my desire to even things) kendis and nicola were good. emile and irvin were poor.

it is destiny (and chicken, my love): do you mean fighting specifically or keeperness in general?

i'm trying to remember ... lmao.

'Cola's attitude: In general, and to fighting monsters, is Does Not Want. She desperately wants to return to the way things were. However, she has been dealing with the monsters ala survivalists mode. And she approaches this with a sort of ... indirect, for lack of a better word (i tieyed), sort of responsibility. If she doesn't take care of this, people get her, then it is her fault.

Emile's attitude: I can't fully recall Emile's attitude re: fighting monsters specifically. Emile's approach to the entire Keeper bit, is 'it's about damn time, this is their due'. They're not looking to be any kind of big damn hero. But since they're stuck doing this, they better be perks.

Emile, Cola, and Kendis are - in various ways - team survivalists. Kendis doesn't want to be there. Kendis is not a fan of killing living creatures -- but if Kendis has to choose, Kendis choose living and protecting her people. She chooses not giving her mom someone to mourn. It isn't that Irvin doesn't want to live. Irvin is approaches it more in the 'call to rise' sense.

This is on every version of Kendis’ playlist so I had to put this here, I almost snagged something from Good As Hell or Stand By You, as they’re peak Kendis as well. But I’m soft for this song because someone suggested this for them:

For Irvin, I really wanted something that showed his kindness and supportiveness, but a lot of the ‘stand with you songs’ just didnt hit me entirely as right. ‘Carry You’ by Ruelle and Fleurie did come close (fun fact: It’s on Mason’s playlist, who is Irvin’s inspo - I guess OG Irvin before he became Irvin-ish.) This song, itself, isn’t perfect but some lyrics in it are:

The issue with picking Carmela a song/lyric is that I knew exactly the vibe I wanted, the theme I wanted, but finding the song ....  I felt my list had it -- butit was like a vagueish almost tip of the tongue feeling, but  not quite. Every song I tried ended up  being wrong. I’m still searching BUT for the purpose of this meme .... (This is More Carmela & Julia (... and Mortum, Wei to an extent).)

It is hard to decide a Xhyera song because: 1. I’m not a big playlist maker person. 2. I’m still learning exile!Xhyera 3. I got really tempted to pick songs for og!Xhyera who is at a state that I hope my current Xhee grows into (or even better). But then this song struck me, I hurt myself with it:

Xhyera

- Xhee was when she was younger a lot more -- mischievous was not quite the word and neither is darker ... but the impulses were there. She was definitely more prone to joke around, tug at things to see what would happen, more of a livewire, I guess it would be best to say. There was something distinctively sharper about her before before the exile.

- She's actually a really good dancer.

Kendis

- Kendis is a pretty good cook but they're such a good baker. Like, dang good. And she's constantly open to trying new receipes.

Irvin

- He was into a lot of sports. One of which was boxing.
