I do think Blazing Saddles handled its one depiction of native americans very poorly, and the full extent of its representation of chinese workers on the railroad is they were literally just there. not even one single speaking line. unclear if this is worse or better than the redface.

it's fucking phenomenal at lampooning antiblack racism though. extremely blatant, extremely funny satire, which is constantly and loudly saying "racism is the philosophy of the terminally stupid at best and morally depraved at worst, and we should all be pointing and laughing at them 24/7"

plus the main character is a heroic black man who has to navigate a whole lot of bullshit but is constantly smirking at the extraordinarily stupid racists and inviting the audience into the joke. the one heroic white character is a guy who was suicidally depressed until he met the protagonist and they just instantly became buds, and he's firmly in a supporting role the whole time and happy to be there. the protagonist saves the day with the help of his black friends from the railroad, and uses the position of power he was given to uplift not only those friends, but all the railroad workers of other minorities too, in an explicit show of solidarity.

anyone saying "Blazing Saddles is racist" had better be talking about its treatment of non-black minorities. it had better not be such superficial takes as "oh but they say the n-word all the time" or "they have nazis and the kkk in there!" because goddamn if that's the full extent of your critique I very seriously suggest you read up on media analysis. there is too much going over your head, you need to learn to recognize satire.

I know it's been a while since I did anything here, much less made a post about an update to this great beast I've been working on for so many years.

But here, now, I am proud to announce that the beast has been slain. I have finally finished Achilles' Last Stand!! Its final chapters are freshly posted on AO3 and ready for your enjoyment. Thank you so much for anyone who has stuck through it with me on this long, long journey. We have finally made it. We have earned this rest.

This question has been in my mind for a while as somebody whose favorite story is from a video game ive never ACTUALLY played lol

i think if you’ve ever had a positive opinion on a game through secondhand experience you should be arrested and then put on trial cause like how dare you enjoy one major facet of a game that is almost entirely delivered through non-interactive cutscenes anyway. the only difference between you and the person playing the cutscene themselves is that one of you is clicking through the dialogue with the mouse button. which of course logically means that your experience was fake and gay and you have no media literacy and reading isn’t fundamental after all. the simplest way to talk about media you haven’t experienced firsthand while also making sure you don’t offend gatekeepers (god’s most important fans) is that you always overtly qualify your experiences and deny yourself any ability to express earnestness. it’s much more important to be a real fan than it is to be a human being. repeat this to yourself in the mirror every morning.

Hi! I’m a big fan of both the Lackadaisy comic and animated series, but I am a little concerned about the character of Rocky. I’ve noticed that you art of him tends to be mean spirited, I understand if cruelty in your art is your personal taste but is it possible to make some not mean art of him? I don’t mean to come off as rude or aggressive but could you, if possible, have your art of Rocky be more happy and not cruel? Anyways I love the series and I am excited for the future!
