Jaemin sits at the end of your bed, scrolling through his phone like he couldn't care less, though you've been sending him messages all day. Indifference is a weapon, and he uses it with finesse. You know the game all too well-more than, that is-he pushes, and you pull, and then it all goes bang-repeat.

"You don't care, do you?" you ask in a voice sharper than you wanted it to be, the bitterness in your words was hard to miss.

He looks up from his phone, his face unreadable. That look: the one that says you are wrestling for his attention when you should've already had it. "Care about what?" He sounds lazy, dismissive, like you're not worth the fight.

"About us," you say, your heart thudding in your chest. You abhor the weak voice that escapes your lips but cannot help yourself. "Or am I just something you can pick up and drop when you please?"

Jaemin finally puts down his phone, now leaning forward and his eyes zip through to your own. There is something dangerous in the way he looks at you, something dark and magnetic that keeps you tangled up in him, no matter how toxic it gets.

"You knew what this was," he says, his voice low, almost a whisper. "Don't act like you didn't."

That sentence packs a punch like a fist, but you've heard it before. He's always saying things that cut down everything about you-yourself, your worth, and the very reason you're still here. But worse? You stay, every single time. There is something within him that has its claws into you, drawing you back even when you know you should leave.

"You're messed up," you mutter, but there isn't really much fire in your voice. It's almost as if an acceptance, as if you've just accepted him, accepted the situation.

He smirks and stands up to walk over to you, his hand cupping your chin, forcing you to look at him. "Yeah?" he whispers, his breath ghosting over your lips. "And yet, you're still here, aren't you?"

It is poison, the push and pull as he knows how to break you down yet leaves you on tenterhooks, hanging by a thread. He curls in closer, his lips pressing against yours, and despite the poisonous words, you kiss him back because the pain has become familiar, almost comforting to you.

"That's what I thought," Jaemin whispers against your mouth, his grip on your chin tightening just enough to remind you who's in control.
