hiii when you get a chance could you maybeee write a lil something about how 12 casey and raph both kinda of fall for the reader because she’s like them in a way?
like they would be a trio and really great friends and their feelings individually grow for her 😋 like maybe at first they were all just best friends and having fun but then as their feelings grew the hanging out kind of grew into jealousy and the readers like wtf guys
JUST A LIKE SOMETHING ON MY MIND 🤭 have a great day/night 💋
Jealous Trio
2012!Raphael x reader (a little 2012!Casey Jones x reader)
Tumblr media
A/N: I normally don’t write for Casey, but I think I can manage this. Hope you enjoy❤️💋
---------------
You’re best friends with Raphael and Casey Jones, but as it happens so often with teenagers, the two guys develop a crush on you.
Warnings: Spelling and jealous bois❤️
---------------
It didn’t take a lot to understand how you, Raphael, and Casey Jones could form such a close friend group. All three of you were loud, sharped mouthed and easily prone to physical reactions. Mikey found out the hard way, that throwing his water balloons while the three of you were deeply engaged in a video game, was a very, very bad idea. He found that being chased around the lair by three hot tempered teenagers just was worth it. Especially not when they actually caught him.
You meet Raphael the same day you meet Casey Jones, in an alley further from home than you had intended to go. But in your angered state, after an argument with your parents, you did not take the time to notice your surroundings. And neither did you notice the strange emotionless men in the alley you had just entered. They leaped for you, and you screamed. But then a certain mutant turtle and a human boy came to your rescue, taking out the Kraang.
“I had it under control!”, you told them, your face flustered by the sudden rescue, as you stumped on the dead droid.
“Sure”, Raphael had said with Casey leaning his elbow on his shoulder. “That scream sounded like a person in full control”.
And that was the start of a strong friendship between the three of you. It didn’t take long before Raph and Casey would come and knock on your bedroom window, and asked if you wanted to hang out. That usually involved fighting Kraang droids or Foot ninjas, so obviously you said yes, bringing a baseball bat.
The three of you had used countless nights on the roofs of New York City, doing everything from playful ninja training to a strange game of hockey and baseball, that involved you hitting whatever hockey puck Casey sent your way with your baseball bat, sending it flying over the street. Yes, you had bused several windows, and yes, all three of you ran whenever that happened. It quickly became a fun inside joke that often caused Leonardo to be uneasy whenever he heard it.
But as it often happened with teeangers and friendships, emotions started sparking. In school Casey found his thoughts drifting more than usual, all finding their way to you and how hard you swung your baseball bat. You had once taken a Foot ninja out with one swing. That was impressive. So impressive that Casey found himself smiling at the memory. Raphael too found your face taking up more space in his head as usual. There was this time you had taken his sais, before doing a well meaning impression of him. Normally that would anger Raphael, causing him to yell and maybe even throw punches, but watching you with his sais made him feel warm inside. He too found himself smiling at the thought.
But for quite some time, neither Raph nor Casey knew about the other’s growing thoughts and feelings about you. For long they kept quiet, watching you with fond smiles, just being happy to have you around. Until one day they both realized that they were not alone with their thoughts.
It all began on a chilly evening when the three of you found yourselves on the rooftop of your apartment building, gazing at the city skyline. The distant sounds of traffic and the occasional sirens filled the air as you shared stories and laughter. You, not able to sit still that evening, found yourself standing out on the roof, just swinging your bat aimlessly, laughing at the nice stretching in your arms as you did so.
Raphael, perched on the edge of the building, stole glances in your direction when he thought you weren't looking. The tough exterior that defined his character softened whenever he spoke or looked at you, his eyes betraying a vulnerability he seldom showed.
Casey, armed with his hockey stick, leaned against a water tower, his eyes fixed on you and the movement of your arms. His tough, streetwise demeanor melted away in your presence, replaced by a genuine warmth that only you seemed to inspire.
It was there on the rooftop, that both Casey and Raph noticed the way the other was looking at you. The sudden realization hit both of them hard, as if it was a puck being shot at them by your bat. The realization that they were not alone in their admiration and growing feelings for you.
This marked a turn in your trio’s friendship. As the days turned into weeks and the weeks into months, the unspoken tension between Raphael and Casey grew more palpable. Each found themselves grappling with emotions they couldn't quite put into words. Soon it wasn’t uncommon for Raph and Casey to start silent arguments while you weren’t looking, or even pushing or shoving to be the one that got to walk you home.
The tension built moths, a simmering undercurrent that now threatened to erupt into a full-blown argument, even with you around. For everyone around you it was quite obvious what was going on. Both Casey and Raph was crushing hardcore on you, and yet, you were totally oblivious to this. You still hung out with them, happy and joyous as ever, not seeing the foul looks your two best friends were giving each other over your shoulder.
Raph and Casey would start seeking you out on their own without the other. Soon you would be met by Raphael on your fire escape or a never ending string of texts from Casey, asking if you wanted to hang out. You found that a little strange. For a whole month the three of you never hung out all together, but just you and one of the two. Raph would bring you to the lair or hang out on the roof, while Casey would come to your place or find a place for the two of you to play your hockey baseball game.
Then one day Raphael and Casey found themselves on the rooftop of your apartment building once again, the city lights stretching out before them like a sea of stars, as the two of them stared at each other in shock. Both of them had come to your apartment, wanting to heat if you wanted to hang out. But unbeknown to them, they had had the same exact thought that night.
“What are you doing here?”, Casey asked.
“I could ask you the same thing”, Raph said, narrowing his eyes.
The two boys angrily stared each other down, arms crossed, eyes narrow, fist clenched and jaws tight, hoping it was enough to scare the other off. But they both stood their ground, blame laying on their stubborn nature.
Casey sighed, leaning against a ventilation duct, a scowl etched on his face. "Look, Raph, we gotta talk about this".
Raphael shot a glare in Casey's direction, acting as if he had no idea what he was talking about. "Talk about what?"
Casey's frustration boiled over, coming out in an agitated growl. "You know what I'm talkin' about, Raph. Her. (Y/N). We can't keep goin' on like this".
Raphael's eyes narrowed, his temper flaring. "What's your problem, Jones? You got somethin' to say, spit it out".
The hockey-masked vigilante took a deep breath, attempting to rein in his anger. "I can't ignore this anymore, Raph. We're both into her, and it's messin' with the team dynamic. We haven’t hung out in a month. We gotta figure out who's gonna make a move or back off".
Raphael scoffed. "Why should I back off? She ain't yours, Jones".
Casey's jaw clenched. "She's not yours either, tough guy. But we can't keep playin' these silent games. It's not fair to her, and it's not fair to us".
Raphael took a step closer, his body tense. "You think you're better for her, is that it? What makes you so damn special?"
Casey's voice rose, matching Raphael's intensity. "I'm not sayin' I'm better, but I'm not gonna sit back and watch you hoard all her attention!”
As the argument reached its peak, you emerged onto the rooftop. Having heard the voices of your two best friends from your window, you decided to go up and check on them, only to be met by them screaming and yelling at each other.
"Hey! Guys! What's going on up here?"
Raphael and Casey snapped their attention to you, their faces immediately shifting to nervous embarrassment. Raphael scratched the back of his head, a weak smile on his face. "Nothin', just havin' a disagreement about... baseball".
Casey rolled his eyes, muttering under his breath. "Yeah, because that's a good diversion". That comment caused Raph to glare at him.
Not the least bit convinced, you crossed your arms, a stern look on your face. “Spill or I’ll get the bat”.
Panicked, both boys looked at each other. None of them were ready to tell you about their feelings, yet they knew you wouldn’t give up before they told you the truth. Curse you being as stubborn as them. And curse you for making them so nervous, when they normally would be calm.
“Raph has a crush on you!”, Casey yelled, pushing the terrapin towards you. Raph locked up, staring at you frozen in fear.
You smirked. “Is that so?”
Unsure of what to do, Raph grabbed onto Casey and pushed him towards you as well. “Casey has a crush on you too!”
Your smirk turned to an expression of shock, eyes moving between your two best friends. “Really?” Their nervous demeanor spoke volumes, telling you that it indeed was true. Your two best friends had feelings for you. “Is that why you guys haven’t hung out in a month?” The boys nodded, their eyes on the ground, both slightly ashamed.
A silence fell upon all of you, not really sure what to say. You had never guessed, nor thought that your best friends could have a crush on you, and therefore did not know what to think of it. The thought was knew and still strange to you, yet, you cared deeply for the two guys infront of you. For goodness sake, they were your best friends!
“So”, you started, catching their attention in less than a second. “My parents won’t come home before tomorrow evening. Do you guys wanna come down and watch a movie?”
The two guys looked shocked at you, before turning to one another, friendly smiles forming on their faces.
“That sounds good”, Raphael said with Casey nodding in agreement, before following you down into your apartment.
That evening you, Raph and Casey hung out in your living room, talking and laughing at the action movie playing on your television. You had to admit, it was nice to be together with your two best friends once again, feeling the calm and joy once more. As strange as it was to know that both of them had a crush on you, you were happy to be close to them once more. And tomorrow when they had gone home, you would sit down and have a real think through. Did you feel the same way? And even if you did, were you ready to start a relationship with any of them? And were you willing to run the risk of not just ruining one friendship, but two? You did not know. And as you sat and watched the movie with Raph and Casey, you still didn’t know. But you had tomorrow to worry about that. That evening, it was all about enjoying your time with your friends.

See Me For Me (Turtle Tots: Before the Rise)
@flufftober 2024 Day 6- Mistaken Identity
Fandom: Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Chapter Summary: Splinter doesn't always pay close enough attention to his kids on bad days. Sometimes it leads to hurt feelings.
A/N: Soooo, hurt/comfort is allowed as part of flufftober and I'm very much taking advantage of that with this chapter. (It also won't be the last time I do)
Apologies in advance, this was the first thing I thought of when I saw the prompt. *points to that one scene in Turtle-dega Nights*
Disclaimer: Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles belongs to Andy Suriano, Ant Ward, and Nickelodeon. All rights belong to them.
Donnie took a deep breath, tucking the drone he had spent the better part of three months making under his chin. It was fine. He was going to like it. His brothers had liked it, so naturally his father would too. Especially once Donnie explained all the ways his dad could use it in his everyday life. His dad loved when he made things easier for him, where he could be even lazier than he usually was.
Yes, he shouldn’t be doubting his genius, his father was gonna love it and that was that.
After all it wasn't like Papa didn't… appreciate all the inventions and improvements Donnie made around the lair before, he just never said it in so many words. Or any, actually. But- But that wasn't the point! He was gonna love Donnie’s drone and adopt into his everyday life the way he did with all the other stuff Donnie made him.
Yes. If anything his greater concern should be on keeping his dad hogging it all to himself, since it was so useful and everything. After all, Donnie’d had to practically pry the remote control from Leo’s hands the moment his twin had realized the drone could actually fly and his other brothers had wanted a turn flying it around too. Donnie had tried not to smile too obviously as he'd proudly supervised their test runs.
His dad would be the same, Donnie was sure of it.
Gathering as much courage as he could possibly muster Donnie stepped into the TV room.
As suspected, his dad was there, watching Japanese commercials, practically melted into the chair he’d been sitting in for hours now. Only his eyes weren’t quite on the screen but the display beside it, covered in old trinkets from Splinter’s past. Or that's where they all suspected it came from, since Splinter refused to elaborate when asked. His eyes were glassy and unfocused and Donnie hesitated a moment in the doorway.
On one hand, his father wasn't watching TV which meant he had a higher percentage of not being ignored but on the other hand…
His father looked so far away from them right now. Donnie wasn't even sure how to pull him back. He shifted uneasily from foot to foot.
Maybe.. maybe this was a bad time.
Donnie weighed between his eagerness and anxiety before braving a step forward. “Father,” he started, voice straining for the words when his tongue rebelled against him. He cleared his throat and tried again. “Dad? Can I… may I show you something?”
Splinter blinked and sort of half turned his way, no sign of recognition on his face. “Mm?”
It wasn't outright rejection (yet) but it still made Donnie breath heavy through his nose. Seems like he had picked the worst time for this. But he was already here and almost had his dad's attention so he might as well continue. “I just finished one of my most recent projects and I was wondering… if you might want to see it?”
Some of the fog faded from Splinter’s eyes and Donnie felt his heart leap with hope. “Oh you have… something to show me?”
Donnie nodded emphatically, excitement burning bright in his chest as he launched into a long-winded rant. “Yes! It's a drone I've been developing for nearly three months now! Off and on, of course, I have other projects I've been working on. It is capable of carrying nearly six hundred pounds of weight and its battery can last for up to 62 hours before needing to be charged and-”
Donnie continued on like that for a while, reciting each and every feature he’d installed into his precious creation, well aware his father would only understand about half of it, if that. He tried not to get too technical, afraid he would lose Splinter’s attention all over again, but he couldn't help it. Inventing may be his passion but there was something about showing off his creations that made it infinitely more rewarding. Like how Mikey brandished all his sketches and paintings, fishing for the compliments he knew he was going to get.
Donnie enjoyed the praise, the feeling of being useful, of knowing just how smart and irreplaceable he was to his family.
By the time Donnie had finished his long-winded explanation, Splinter had regained that glazed over look in his eyes, entire face pinched in confusion. “Ah yes, that is very… interesting, my son,” he said in an obvious lie.
So yeah, Donnie maybe sorta went a bit overboard.
But that was fine! His dad was at least trying to pay attention to him. So that meant Donnie could totally fix this. His dad just needed a demonstration of what his drone could do. Yeah! He was always more of a visual learner anyways.
Hopping onto the chair with Splinter he maneuvered the drone onto the armrest and held the remote out for his dad. “Here, I’ll even allow you to take it for a spin. To see how truly ingenious a creation it is.” Donnie tried to play it cool so his father wouldn’t think he was being desperate or something. Which he wasn’t, by the way.
But instead his dad waved the offered controller away, other hand pressed tight to his forehead. “Ah, no, that’s alright, maybe later.”
Donnie’s smile dropped, the warm bubbly feeling turning into a tight knot in his stomach. He pulled the remote away from Splinter like it had offended him, fingers tapping against the thick plastic as he stared nervously at his father’s tired face. And maybe because he was just too stubborn for his own good, he decided to give one last, desperate try. “Um, if you’d like, I-I could give you a demonstration? Show you how it works.” His dad was going to love it, if he’d just let him see-
Splinter sighed, staring off into the middle distance, no awareness in his eyes as he sank further into his chair. “No, it-it would be better if we waited until later I’m-” He went back to staring at the display, attention honing in on something in particular, though Donnie couldn’t track his vision to tell. “I’m tired,” Splinter confessed and that felt like the end of it.
Donnie swallowed hard, giving a tiny nod. He hated that he had to fight some mystery object for his dad’s attention. It was already hard enough fighting his brothers and the TV for it. But he had no argument left so he just scooped up the drone and slid off his dad’s chair with a lowered gaze. “A-Alright. I’ll come back later then.”
Splinter nodded robotically, back to that haunted, far away look. His words were empty and devoid of life as he muttered, “Yes, yes, show me whatever it is later, Blue.”
And Donnie gasped, the word ‘blue’ bouncing over and over again in his mind. The implication was crushing.
His dad thought he was Leo.
No. No. Why? Was it- was it because they were twins? Because that wasn’t fair! Donnie and Leo looked nothing alike, acted nothing alike. Leo had never invented anything a day in his life. They were twins by choice! Twins by choice weren’t supposed to get mixed up. And not- not by their dad of all people.
Had he not been paying any attention? So distracted in whatever was so much more important than Donnie that he’d just… ignored him. Donnie thought he’d been at least trying to pay attention but maybe that had just been an act to not hurt his feelings. To not hurt Leo’s feelings. Is that why he’d pretended to listen because he’d thought he was Leo and Leo was his favorite son?
Had he even noticed the drone Donnie had been meticulously crafting for three months? Had he not noticed Donnie even though he’d been standing there and talking to him all this time?
Was he really so unimportant to his dad that he was interchangeable in his mind?
Donnie’s eyes burned as he fled the room without another word, squeezing the drone so tight against his chest he felt the metal bend.
His dad didn’t follow him.
Donnie didn’t want him to.
He threw the drone across his room and collapsed onto his bed. It was only once he was hidden under his blanket that he let the first tear fall.
He cried silently, staring at the wall and listening carefully for his dad’s footsteps.
Donnie wished he’d never gone to his stupid dad in the first place.
Splinter was stuck. That was the feeling that had persisted the moment he first woke up that morning. Just this general overall stuck feeling.
And not stuck as in physically, it was more like he was stuck in life. Stuck hiding away from society. Stuck existing as an ugly gross rat. Stuck watching the world move on without him, unaware he was even alive.
Stuck in his head, reliving those old, familiar losses again and again and again. He had lost so, so much that some days it was hard to pull himself out of bed and face those losses head-on. His mother, his fiance, his career, his humanity. Gone. Stripped away from him, one after the other.
And there was just so much grieving to do, so much to process that he'd found it easier to just… not. Not think or focus on it. To distract.
But some days he woke up with this all over stuck feeling and all he could do was think about it.
Like today. Sitting in his chair, lost in old, hurtful memories, feeling the time crawl by. The TV was on but the old familiar distraction couldn't break through the rush of numb pain as he heard his mother's last words on repeat in his head.
Blue came in at some point, babbling about something, clearly excited and eager to show it off and Splinter, well…
He tried to listen, he really did, but the haze in his head was so thick it was like nothing could penetrate it. Whatever words managed to slip through were washed away under a typhoon of misery.
And then Blue was on the chair with him, holding something out for him to take. Splinter wanted to take it, wanted to play along, but his head pulsed, a migraine taking center stage and cutting off any chance he had of enjoying this moment with his son.
He just… couldn't today. And he hated himself for it.
Splinter tried to let him down easy but it felt so much like rejection that it curdled his stomach, but the image of his mother's tear-stained face was stark against reality and left him sinking deeper into himself.
Still he tried to offer some reassurance to his little Blue as he felt the weight leave his side but it must have not been good enough because he left in such a hurry Splinter could only assume he was upset. He wanted to go after him but he couldn't seem to muster the energy to stand.
Splinter was stuck.
And he didn't know how to get free.
Minutes or hours passed, time a hazy blur, and suddenly Blue was back. Tugging at his arm, calling his name, practically demanding his attention, loud and persistent and impossible to ignore. It made Splinter’s headache throb in agony, the pain chasing the worst of the fog away as he tenderly massaged his temple. “Blue, please, quiet voice. Daddy has a headache,” he moaned.
Blue did (thankfully) get quiet, wordlessly running off to fetch a bottle of pills and a small glass of water, then waited silently for his dad to gulp them down.
By the time Splinter set the glass aside, he felt more aware than he’d been all day, finally able to focus on his little Blue, offering him the last dregs of concentration he had left. “Now what is it you wanted to show me?”
Leo titled his head to the side and gave him a funny look. “Show what?”
Splinter felt his eyebrow quirk up in confusion. “You were in here earlier to show me something, remember?”
Leo shook his head, mask tails bobbing. Splinter felt his heartbeat pick up a little. Had… had he really been so out of it that he'd confused one son with the other? Guilt stung sharp in his chest as he ran the haze of memories over in his head. He couldn't for the life of him remember which of his little children had been in there before. He'd only guessed Blue because of how noisy he was.
What kind of parent did that?! What poor excuse for a father was he?! He was-
Splinter forced his spiraling thoughts to settle. He couldn't afford to waste time on another round of pity-partying, not when he had a sad son somewhere in need of comforting. That needed to be his focus. He'd already wasted enough on himself today.
So steadying his breath, Splinter carefully asked his son, “Blue, do you know if any of your brothers had something they wanted to show me?”
There was almost an instant nod in reply. “Yeah, Donnie made this cool new drone that he was showing off to everyone! He even let me fly it around a little and I didn't crash it into anything!” Leo puffed out his chest proudly as if that was the biggest accomplishment of his life.
Splinter vaguely recalled that same offer being extended to him before he'd rudely declined. Which, oh boy, he'd really messed up bad this time. It was so, so rare for Purple to let him touch his tech, a show of trust that he'd probably butchered completely.
No scratch that, definitely butchered completely.
Because even though he'd deny it, his baby softshell was a sensitive child who could hold a grudge longer than Splinter could keep his hairline.
He'd be lucky if he was trusted with a TV remote after this.
And then on top of everything else, he'd called him by the wrong name for pizza's sake!
Splinter, feeling like the scum of the Earth, had to swallow hard against the lump in his throat to ask his next question. “And where is Purple now?”
“In his room,” Blue responded, smile turning to a pout. “He's being stubborn and won't come out, even when I offered to play whatever he wanted.” It was then Splinter realized Blue's pout had a hint of worry underneath it.
“I'll talk to him,” Splinter assured, giving his middle child a pat on the head. He had to peel himself out of the worn seat he'd practically merged with at this point, ignoring the pops and creaks of his old bones when he stood. Ugh, wallowing in his own misery was certainly doing nothing for his ex-movie star physique.
Blue followed Splinter all the way to Purple's room, unmistakable worry written on his features. Which seemed to carry over to his other sons as both Red and Orange were sitting just outside Purple’s room, talking to him through the curtain.
Splinter shooed them away gently, promising he would handle it, his three sons reluctantly running off to play. Splinter took a moment to brace himself as best he could before stepping inside, finding a sad little lump curled up on the bed. Purple was facing away from him, so he announced his presence with a very soft, “Donatello?” feeling his heart sink when his baby softshell's shoulders hiked up.
Splinter risked a step closer with soft, careful footsteps. “May I please speak with you, my son?”
“Wouldn't you rather talk to Leo,” Donnie hissed, angry evident even as his breath hiccuped each word.
Splinter cringed and- yeah, he kinda deserved that. He sat on the edge of Purple's bed, resisting the urge to lay a hand on his shoulder. He knew better than to touch Purple when he was upset like this, even if it tore him up inside to ignore the aching parental instincts begging him to hug his sad child. “I am so sorry I did that Purple.”
“Whatever, I didn't care.” The sad sniffles betrayed this lie and Splinter was pretty sure he could see a slight quiver in his Purple's shoulders. It makes Splinter’s heart constrict painfully. He did this. This was his fault.
Still he took a shaky breath and pressed on. “Of course you do. Anyone would be hurt by that.”
Purple seemed at a loss for words, so Splinter continued, very softly, “And I am very sorry for causing you that hurt. I did not mean to confuse you with your brother. You are not Blue, you are my Purple.”
There's a long pause and then Purple rolls over and sits up. Curling his knees to his chest, Purple stares off into space with puffy, red-rimmed eyes. “Then why did you mix me up with Leo? If you know the difference now?” Splinter could tell he was struggling to sound neutral, voice shaking ever so slightly.
He reaches out a hand to comfort but stops himself just shy, remembering to ask, “Are you okay with touch right now, Donatello?” It's only once Purple nodded his consent that Splinter finishes the motion, gently taking both hands in his and squeezing.
He spends a minute thinking of an answer to the question, how much to tell his young child. After all, Purple is just barely eight, far too young to be dealing with Splinter’s issues. He had already put enough on his son today.
No child deserved to carry the weight of their parent's burdens.
So, Splinter chose his next words carefully. “I'm afraid I've been a bit… lost in my thoughts today and it's caused me to not pay enough attention to the world around me.”
“You're like that a lot,” Purple murmured, mad.
Splinter sighed deep, wishing he could be every bit the parent these children deserved. But he wasn't. He could only be what he was, and even that was a gross parody these days. A far fallen disgrace of the man he once was.
Splinter rubbed the top of Purple's hand thoughtfully, finally admitting, “Yes, some days are very hard for me. I will try and do better.” He hoped he could keep that promise. For his kids sake if nothing else.
Still, it didn't feel like enough, especially when Purple's expression stayed flat and unreadable, so Splinter tried a different method. “Would you like to show me your-” Oh rats, what was the machine called again? After a few seconds of frantic mental stuttering Splinter went with, “-invention now?”
Purple made a face and frantically shook his head. Oh. It seemed Splinter was going to need to earn some trust back before he could fully fix his mistake. He tried not to let that hurt show. “Then would you like to watch a show with me? Whatever you'd like.”
It wasn’t enough and Splinter knew it but his children always enjoyed one-on-one time with him, so he figured it would do in a pinch.
“Are you sure you wouldn't rather watch something with Leo?” It was the same question but came out far more broken than the first time, voice quivering and on the verge of tears.
Splinter didn’t waste a second before pulling his sad baby into his lap and wrapping him up in a warm hug. “No, Purple, no. Of course not,” he soothed, trying not to sound absolutely torn to shreds when the first sob reached his ears. He rubbed circles on Purple’s shell, just the way he knew he liked it, shushing him softly whenever he started to shake with the force of his tears.
“Bu-but how do I know you didn’t confuse me for Leo b-because you like him better than me?” Purple hiccuped, grabbing onto Splinter’s robe with both fists. “Do you wish I-I was more like him? I-Is that why I’m replaceable in your mind?! B-Because I’m not good enough-”
“No!” Splinter shouted. It came out choked and ragged and he felt Purple flinch against him. So he took a moment to steady his breathing, then gently cupped Donnie’s face in his hands, giving him a soft smile even when his son avoided his eyes. “No, Donatello. Please don’t think that. Don’t ever think that.”
He swallowed hard, fighting the shudder that ran up his spine, instead tenderly wiping the tears from Purple’s cheeks using his thumbs. “Let me be clear with you, alright? What happened earlier was my own fault, not yours. It had absolutely nothing to do with you or anything you have done.” He added, a bit fiercer, “And please believe me when I say that there is not a single thing I would ever change about you, my Purple. I love you exactly as you are. And I also do not love you any less than I love your brothers. You are all my children and you are all equal in my heart.”
And then, because he had to be sure, Splinter said, “You do not have to forgive me- but please, please, my son, do not let your silly dad’s mistake take away what makes you my unique little baby Purple.”
Donnie sniffed, finally meeting his eyes. They were still glassy but something determined now rested over the tears. “Science channel,” he said simply.
“Huh?!” Splinter exclaimed, startled and more than a little confused by the unexpected response.
Purple’s eyes darted to his hands which twitched nervously. “You… you said we could watch whatever I wanted. I want to watch the science channel.”
Oh. Splinter knew what this was now. A peace offering. Maybe even forgiveness if he could be so bold.
But even more than that- it was a test. Because Splinter hated the science channel with a burning passion and Purple knew that. Splinter could tell he was waiting for rejection, for the trick to finally be revealed. For him to take back his promise and therefore let everything else he’d said to be false and meaningless along with it. Just pretty lies to comfort his son when he was sad. Nothing more.
But Splinter had meant it. He had meant every word. And he wouldn’t dare make the same mistake twice in one day. He wouldn’t make this about him. Splinter would make things right with his son.
Even if it meant watching the science channel.
So Splinter just kissed his son on the forehead and assured him in a bright tone, “Then that’s what we’ll watch.”
Purple relaxed immediately in his arms and Splinter felt his knotted heart start to untangle. He leaned his head against Splinter’s chest and asked, “As much as I want?”
Splinter chuckled and planted another kiss to the top of his son’s head. “Yes, yes, whatever makes you happy, my Purple.”
And well, Splinter couldn’t think of a single moment his son had ever looked happier than in that moment, beaming up at his dad like he’d just won the lottery.
So Splinter smiled back and gave his son a small squeeze, letting him know he was there, present and fully aware. He knew it wasn’t enough- he wasn’t enough- but he had nothing else to offer.
And although it wasn’t perfect, Purple accepted it, burying his head in his dad’s chest and staying there until they moved to the TV room to marathon the science channel.
A/N: Dude it is so hard to write Splinter comforting Donnie while also keeping as close to canon as possible! As Donnie put it, Big Mama was his first positive reinforcement from a parent aged adult EVER or at least in his eyes. Either way, I do believe Splinter did try to be a good parent in his own way, he was just, y'know… dealing with a lot. I have plans to explore more of Splinter's relationship with the tots in some later chapters and none are nearly this angsty, so that's exciting!!

You know, this occurred to me awhile back.
Teenage mutant ninja turtles
Yes you really do need all four words. Pause to think about each example before moving on. Behold,
Removing one word
Teenage mutant ninjas
Teenage mutant turtles
Teenage ninja turtles
Mutant ninja turtles
Removing two words
Teenage mutants
Teenage ninjas
Teenage turtles
Mutant ninjas
Mutant turtles
Ninja turtles
Removing three words!
Teenagers
Mutants
Ninjas
Turtles
Each and every single one of these examples is a completely different story and set of characters. Teenage mutants? Xmen obviously. Mutant ninjas? Gimic villain in a filler episode of Kim Possible or Samurai Jack. Regular turtles? A nature documentary. Regular teenagers? The Breakfast Club. Even with just three words its not the same story. Teenage mutant ninjas? Thats a good premise for an (or a poor description of an already existing) anime. Even adding turtles isn't the same story! Teenage ninja turtles? Well they're not mutants which means they're naturally occurring ninja turtles, so it sounds to me like a Redwall style story occurring in Japan.
Its just so wild to me that, you really do need all four words, maybe you could get kids media, maybe you could an action setting, maybe you could get sci-fi, but no matter how hard you try, removing even one word will not get you the same world and story.
Even if you just do mutant ninja turtles, you could get the same characters, world, hell it could even be animated, but they're not teenagers, which means they're adults, which means its definitely not going to be the same story. Anyway, just something that occurred to me.
(Disclaimers: I am not an expert in turtles, ninjas, mutation, or teenagers. The previous thoughts have no expert backing and likely the ramblings of madman who's never even seen teenage turtle media, ninja or otherwise. These thoughts do not display the opinions or policies of experts in the field.)

Mutated Defender (Vigilante Archetype)
Tumblr media
(art by Anubiscomics on DeviantArt)
The vigilante class covers a lot of masked heroes and villains. By default it covers both the brazen warrior and the stealthy infiltrator sorts of mundane masked vigilantes, but with archetypes we also see things like mages, horse-mounted warriors, gun specialists, and so on, including their very own pseudo-hulk which admittedly isn’t actually very good.
But for the most part, there really isn’t an option for playing a character with a weird inherent superpower that isn’t expressly magical. Even the most mundane of these empowered heroes have divine or primal blessings and the like. However, there is one notable exception in the form of the Mutated Defender!
Part Toxic Avenger, part Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and part X-Men, this archetype is all about a person with a mutation that uses this power for good, even in a world that refuses to understand the good heart behind their often twisted appearances.
If you’re looking for something on the power scale of Magneto or Storm, you’re better off with a full caster with maybe a dip into vigilante, but if your favorite X-man is among the low-powered characters, you could probably pull them off.
In any case, yes, this archetype is all about having a character with weird superpowers due to some mutation, such as fantastical radiation, wild magic, horrific experiments, and the like. No matter their origins, however, they still choose to help people despite the normal reaction that most mortals have to mutated members of their species or other species.
So let’s take a look!
These heroic mutants can match avenger vigilantes in combat, but due to their mutations, they always have one deformity, which can ranged from withered limbs to fragile aspects of their being that leave them especially vulnerable if their mind, body, or reflexes are targeted, a missing sense, or perhaps even oversensitive eyes. However, as part of their established social identity, they learn a lesser form of magical transformation that hides their mutations, allowing them to blend into society, though obviously they can’t access any of those mutations until they revert.
Speaking of which, they also gain access to a trio of new vigilante talents which represent various useful mutations in their arsenal.
The first gives them a ranged energy attack, be it spitting acid, projecting flame, discharging electricity from nodules on their body, or something else. It may not scale very well with level, but it can be useful even with it’s limited uses per day.
The second and most notable allows these defenders to gain various low-level evolutions normally available to eidolons (the wording implies that the unchained list is used), allowing them to grow extra limbs, gain natural attacks, and other practical things, though they can’t take alternate movement methods, harden their bodies, or act as someone’s mount. This talent can be taken repeatedly as well, representing how the hero mutates and changes over time.
Finally, they have a talent that unlocks minor psychic power, sensing the thoughts of others.
The vigilante class is perhaps most well known for extremely constructable, picking up various talents to customize them as the player sees fit, and that takes on a whole new meaning with this archetype. You could get gills right off the bat, or load yourself up on a bite and two claws or other combination of natural attacks, or go the psychic route by taking both the mutated lobe and basic psychic magic, or pick up a surprise ranged attack. You are limited to just 1-point evolutions with no way to upgrade, which I think is a crying shame, but if you combine these mutant abilities with more traditional vigilante talents, and you can create some truly wicked combinations.
I feel like a lot of vibes that went into this particular archetype survived into the fleshwarp ancestry of 2nd edition, and that’s perfectly fine. Heck, I think there straight-up is a vigilante fleshwarp hanging around Alkenstar in the setting.
In any case, however, let’s take a moment to remind ourselves that disabilities aren’t superpowers. Even if your character replaces a missing limb with a stronger cybernetic or magitech one, they still have to deal with the times when they have to take it off, or deal with the struggles unique to it. So please, be mindful and respectful.
An investigation into a string of disappearances leads the party to a remote community, but they aren’t the only ones following the trail. The vigilante known as Crimson Claw is conducting their own investigation. Can the party put aside their differences to work with them, and will either of them survive the cult’s wickerman guardian?
Some think the Water Reacher is some manner of horror from the sea, and they are half right. In truth, they are actually a triton immigrant hiding the secret of their horrific mutations, which they use to drag criminals into the many canals that form the byways of the city.
The Night of Green Mist covered the city of Enblie nearly two years ago to the day. Most citizens were safely inside at the time, but the alchemical accident had nightmarish effects on those caught outside. Many degenerated into mutants that struggle to live normal lives if they can, or lurk in the sewers otherwise. A rare few, however, have mastered hiding their transformation, and use them to enact their own goals under the cover of night.

20 Questions for fic writers
Thanks for the tag @captaincravatthecapricious
How many works do you have on Ao3?
33
2. What's your total Ao3 word count?
282,261 (woah...)
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Currently mostly One Piece, Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Encanto, Owl House and some others occasionally
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
A Place for Crows (to rest their feet) - Encanto (
I'll brick by brick rebuilt us - Encanto
A Perfect Storm - One Piece
There were Rats in the Palace - Encanto
To the dark I said pour (and forgot to say when) - Rise of the TMNT
5. Do you respond to comments?
Yes! I appreciate getting comments so so much and I wanna show that by responding
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
This is a hard one cause four come to mind that are super angsty but ultimately I think it is Let the world come at you (Rottmnt). That one's just bleak
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
I guess The devil throws stones at us (One Piece). That one was just a lot of fun and I got lots of comments about how funny the ending is so I'll take my readers word for it
8. Do you get hate on fics?
I did once but that was mostly funny. A single sentence, something like "This story is horse shit" for the second to last chapter of a 19 chapter fic which was like... Well, you read pretty far for it all to be horse shit, didn't you??
9. Do you write smut?
I haven't yet, but I really want to... 👀
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you have written?
I do occasionally and the craziest one is definitely by far my Rottmnt/Ghost Files crossover. Man, that was a real trip but also so much fun. I had a lot of fun writing the Ghoul Boys and their shenanigans!
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I know!
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
I have been asked a few times but no one ever actually did it I think? Or they just never told me about it
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
No but I am certainly very open to the idea 👀
14. What's your all time favorite ship?
Well ZoLu (One Piece) will probably always be number 1! I just love their dynamic so much, but not just romantic, also platonic. I'm actually much much more interested in platonic relationships! The team as family stuff. The straw hat pirates come to mind. Or the TMNT brothers being the best brothers. Platonic is my one true love!
15. What is a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
There is a Donatello angst fic that I have been writing on and off for what feels like an eternity. I have written myself into a corner somehow and I really hope I get myself out of that but I doubt I will any time soon...
16. What are your writing strengths?
I think I write emotions and internal stuff a character is going through quite well. I have also been told quite a few times that my characterizations are spot on which is always nice to hear cause that's the most important thing for me
17. What are you writing weaknesses?
Ugh don't get me started on fight scenes omg. When a lot of action is going on I have a hard time putting that stuff into words... I'm better at dialogue and feelings and stuff
18. Thoughts of writing dialogue in another language in fics?
Well, if it's done well??? Sure why not. I have been guilty of using some Japanese (One Piece) or Spanish (Encanto) words in my works, never full sentences though
19. First Fandom you wrote for?
First published fic was Stargate Atlantis. First fic written in a notepad for my eyes only? xxxHolic.
20. Favorite fic you have written?
For Encanto obviously A Place for Crows, it's so special to me. For Rise of the TMNT I'd say Casey Jones' Gambit
For One Piece it's probably the latest one Til Salvation Breaks Through. I had a blast writing this one because it challenged me quite a bit and I could let loose a little bit
******************
Not gonna tag anyone, everyone who wants to take a trip down memory lane, be my guest!

Merlin:
How to Reveal Your Magic Because You Have No Sense Of Self Preservation Whatsoever: A Guide By Merlin Emrys
A series of unrelated one-shots and short stories about Merlin revealing his magic because both he and all his friends are idiots. Also, Merlin, for the life of him, has no sense of self-preservation at all and I try to embody that in these fics.
Series info as of November 2023:
Not completed
10 works (listed below)
Best + Bitter = Better (one-shot, 2,637 words, part 1 of How to Reveal Your Magic series)
This was actually happening. They were being serious. They were actually being completely, utterly serious.
“You can’t actually believe this.” He gestured wildly to the group of people in front of them. Well, as best as he could tied up. This was one of the most ridiculous things he had ever heard. This was… this was… he didn’t even know. “This is complete bullshit.”
“Emrys was clear in his instructions. You must be sacrificed in order to bring peace to Albion”
OR
The one where Merlin has had enough of everyone's shit.
Ironically Alive (one-shot, 3,139 words, part 2 of How to Reveal Your Magic series)
Gwaine smiled that way he does when he wants to tick Arthur off. So really, it was his normal smile. “Seemed like a perfectly reasonable detail to point out.” He flipped his hair to the side, turning to face Arthur.
“Perfectly reasonable?!”
Behind Merlin, he heard some of the bandits shifting, whispering to one another. He was pretty sure it went along the lines of ‘what in the hell is going on’ and ‘there can’t actually be that many mysterious magical druids with blue cloaks that talk about destiny and give out magical red amulets to help stop enchantments that one sorcerer meets’, which, unfortunately, was sad and accurately true.
OR
Merlin is never relaxing ever again. He was going to make sure of that after this shit.
Pick Your Poison (Literally) (one-shot, 2,469 words, part 3 of How to Reveal Your Magic series)
So. That… just happened. Leon, in his lifetime, had witnessed many strange, unbelievable, and frankly quite concerning things. When one lived in Camelot, and was friends with both Arthur and Merlin, one usually got into a lot of crazy and unbelievable situations. And Leon was no exception.
But this. This had to take the cake. “Merlin.”
He hummed in response. It was entirely too calm. “Why did you just drink poison?” Fire, no literal fire and chaos reigned around them.
“It seemed like the reasonable thing to do at the time.”
And yet, he found himself not surprised in the slightest.
Leon pinched the bridge of his nose, feeling the oncoming headache behind his eyes. Goddamn fucking stubborn idiot.
OR
Merlin decides poisoning himself is the best way to prove a point. Leon is just tired. So tired.
Caves and Valleys and Magic, Oh My! (one-shot, 2,603 words, part 4 of How to Reveal Your Magic series)
Merlin stepped back. He was… appalled. Shocked. Angry. Slightly hungry. MAD. Who did they think they were?!
“Excuse me?!” Arthur screeched. “Merlin has magic?!”
“Yes.” Leon deadpanned. “Now please, Merlin.”
How did he get here? How did this happen to him? Why was his life like this? He just wanted to be in his nice warm bed and instead he was soaked, stuck in a magical cave, and made to listen to his friends reveal all his secrets.
Right. Sounded about accurate.
OR
Merlin just wants to be home. Unfortunately, it seems like everyone else his different ideas. Typical.
Let's Do the Time Warp (Hopefully Not Again) (two-shot, 9,946 words, part 5 of How to Reveal Your Magic series)
“Merlin, mate. He’s not lying. I wish you two were married. I, for one, would be your best man, obviously.”
"Poetry," Leon mumbled behind him, "Goddamned poetry."
Merlin gave him another startled look-voice rising in distress. “You were my best man!”
Oh, how thoughtful. Too bad he doesn't remember.
Gwaine gave him a thumbs up. "Okay."
OR
Gwaine is generally confused about everything that is going on. Merlin, on the other hand, just wants to go back to his NORMAL, totally STRESS-FREE life. Hahaha.
Just Another Tuesday (one-shot, 3,104 words, part 6 of How to Reveal Your Magic series)
Arthur… really didn’t understand what was happening here. Look, he was generally confused by Merlin most of the time - the man was a riddle wrapped in an enigma with a side of sass to boot. But this was too much, even by his manservant’s standards.
“No. I refuse to believe this. You,” He pointed at the woman, who had just been walking on water, and then to Merlin, who had just kissed the lady who was walking on water, “and you are not married.”
Merlin and Freya held out their hands. Rings that formed out of water moved onto their previously empty ring fingers.
“Oh,” Merlin said, like an ass, “I think we are.”
OR
Arthur just wants to be in bed. It seems the entire world is against that idea.
Today Has Been Like... Torture (one-shot, 2,299 words, part 7 of How to Reveal Your Magic series)
“Wait a minute… Do you have a pit of fire?”
The shack they were in was very small. Very cramped, and very much smelling of blood. They both looked around the room as if a pit of fire would suddenly appear. Merlin hoped a pit of fire would suddenly appear. That would make getting kidnapped on a Sunday worth it.
Murder Man looked at the ground sadly. “No.” His voice was quiet, sad. So disappointing. A pit of fire would’ve really spiced things up.
OR
Merlin is positively bored. Sounds like a great time to get tortured, of course.
Call It Like It Is (one-shot, 2,900 words, part 8 of How to Reveal Your Magic series)
“How do you…” Arthur wiggles his fingers, like he’s teaching magic to a five-year-old, “conjure the fire?”
“Oh, that’s easy,” Merlin starts, because what the fuck else does he have to do, and Lancelot just looks at him with that stupid look he always does when Merlin’s about to say something particularly stupid- “I call it forth from the deepest pits of hell.”
OR
Everyone may know about Merlin's magic, but nobody knows what he's actually capable of. Merlin decides that this is a great advantage when your boyfriend is an idiot.
To Be a God (one-shot, 2,419 words, part 9 of How to Reveal Your Magic series)
“Bow before me,” The sorcerer announces from his perch atop a pile of rubble, “for I am the Mighty Emrys, and I am a god.” It’s not a very mighty perch for someone who claims to be a god. In fact, it’s a very sad, unremarkable perch. Or maybe he’s just a sad, unremarkable man.
“No, I’m Emrys.” Merlin bites back.
“Maybe… we’re all Emrys.” Gwaine breathes out. Gwaine, Merlin thinks, really needs to shut his mouth.
OR
The one where someone claims to be Emrys, and Merlin decides to put him in his place.
Just a Minor Accident (one-shot, 2,431 words, part 10 of How to Reveal Your Magic series)
“I’m sorry... I must’ve misheard you. What the hell did you just say?” This can’t be real. This cannot possibly be real. He must be hallucinating. Hearing things. Maybe he’s finally lost it. That would make more sense than this.
Gwaine grins back at him with a somewhat manic smile. Merlin tries to sink deeper into his bed. “I said that we accidentally raised the dead.” No. He heard right.
OR
The Knights raise the dead. Merlin just wants one full night of sleep, please.
The Once and Future Reign (one-shot, 7,034 words, part 1 of In Another Time series)
It started with Merlin. It always starts with Merlin.
Just One Yesterday (chapter story w/ 4 chapters, 24,076 words, on hiatus)
Merlin had waited a long, long, long time for the return of Arthur. Maybe even the knights or Gwen. What he wasn't prepared for was an ancient evil rising up to destroy the world. He certainly wasn't prepared for six new occupants in his house, who had no idea how to navigate the new world around them. But, he could handle it. After all, he was the most powerful being on the planet. How hard could it be?
Auribus Teneo Lupum (chapter story w/ 1 chapter, 5,691 words, on hiatus)
Morgana had unleashed something onto this world that had shaken Merlin to his core. Something cold and dark and not at all right. It swirled and settled inside of him, mocking his magic.
No matter what happened in the next few days, Merlin knew that nothing would ever be the same.
The Remnants of a Warlock (one-shot, 6,588 words)
Merlin sees everybody he has ever held close to his heart die off one by one. But he always moves on. He has to. So he locks it up and keep moving, because that's what he does. It's what he'll always do.
OR
The one where Merlin watches as all his friends die. He might see them live, too.
TMNT:
Move Along
Mikey's got this bad habit of dying, and his brothers got this bad habit of not liking that. Mikey would appreciate it if his brothers would stop caring so much, and his brothers would appreciate it if he could start caring about it a whole lot more.
It's gonna be a wild ride.
Series info as of November 2023:
Not completed
2 works (listed below)
I Get Knocked Down (But I Get Up Again) (chapter story w/ 50 chapters, 131,830 words, completed)
Mikey lives, and Mikey dies. He’s been doing it for years, and yeah, sure it’s not his favorite thing to do, but it’s whatever. It’s nothing to worry about. He’s not worried about it. He just hopes his brothers never find out, ‘cause he has a feeling that they’d way overreact.
OR
Mikey’s died a bunch of times and is totally Okay™ with this. His brothers? Not so much.
When the Thunder and Lightning Comes (I Know That You'll Be by My Side) (chapter story w/ 18 chapters, 50,102 words, updates frequently, side story to main fic)
Mikey lives, and Mikey dies. His brothers live too, although they don't die, and find it very concerning that Mikey continuously and worryingly continues to do so without caring. They'll get Mikey to understand that maybe that's not all that great... as soon as they figure out what's going on, that is.
OR
Mikey keeps dying. His brothers would greatly appreciate it if he would stop doing that, please.
On Some Days (one-shot, 2,431 words, TMNT - All Media Types)
Sometimes, if he listened closely enough, he could hear their voices. Not often, not often enough, but sometimes.
It's too Quiet. He misses the Loud.
Life Could Be a Dream (chapter story w/ 9 chapters, 35,678 words, TMNT 2003, TMNT 2012, TMNT IDW, completed)
"Hey Raphie..."
"And that's another thing," he adds, narrowing his eyes, "since when do you call me Raphie?"
Since forever. He wants to say. But that was before, and this is now. He thinks he might kinda hate now.
OR
Mikey, being Mikey, finds trouble. It's just that this trouble seems to involve him being human. It also seems to involve him not talking to his brothers, or having a dad, or being a ninja. So there's that. But all those things can be fixed, right? Something's telling him it's not gonna be as easy as it sounds.
Awaiting Your Arrival (With Simple Survival) (one-shot, 3,481 words, TMNT 2012)
Michelangelo runs into Dimension X with a goal in mind and an unwavering faith that his family will follow right behind him. Except Dimension X screws up that from the very beginning. And keeps continuing to screw up. Again, and again, and again.
OR
Mikey learns how to survive.

Ranking TV Theme Tunes - Intro
Many many years ago, I made a tier list of all the theme tunes from loads of cartoons and live-action shows I watched back in the day. I thought this was neat, but I always thought I could do more. It's not like it was a small tier list either! But all the same, it ate away at me. One day, I decided I was gonna do something about it.
I compiled more shows. I asked friends, I took note of shows mentioned in videos I saw, I remembered more from my own experience - the number kept rising. One-hundred. Hundreds. I was building a pretty big collection. I shared my plan with more friends, and more and more of them had suggestions. But then they asked me: "How many are you doing?"
I hadn't considered this before. How many was I going to do? When I told them the current number, they all told me the same thing:
"STOP"
I ignored them, obviously. However, I made a compromise. I'll get to 500, and then I'll stop. A completely reasonable number, I thought... and in terms of reaching it, I was! It was easy, even. Yet, I did come to realise, that it might be slightly too many to ever truly cover as I originally planned, at least in a reasonable time. This brings us to today, and a brand new method for this plan.
I'll be rating themes here show-by-show, and giving them a letter grade for our tier list. I'll first cover my original 500 (with a few stragglers that fit among them), and from there potentially expand. The ground rules and caveats are as follows:
Each theme is rated on the song alone. No personal opinion on the show, the intro video, anything! I will comment on these, but they may not skew my view! These ratings will be go: S, A, B, C, D, and F. Try to remember that C is a passing grade! If your favourite intro gets a C, that means I thought it was Alright!
Shows with more than one theme will be given a final aggregate tier rating, based on each individual theme's rating.
Shows which get an entirely different name from season to season will be treated as unique shows, however shows where this only sometimes happens, or said seasons are simply shorter arcs, will not. For example, every Pokemon show is counted as a unique show, but Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is not, and neither is every season of Ninjago. Reboots will typically be treated as a separate show.
Shows which share a theme or have practically the same themes will be taken as one single entry, though acknowledged as seperate shows. For example, Digimon Adventure 02 will be treated as the same as Digimon Adventure.
I will be counting the British and American themes only, and mainly the original themes they aired with in these countries. That is to say: yes, I'm using the One Piece Pirate Rap.
The shows selected will be of the family entertainment variety. The audience of each show may vary, but it's all about where they may have aired. I think the best way to explain this is that shows such as The Simpsons do not qualify, though I will be counting The Flintstones. You may dispute some of my discretion here, and that's fine, but it's just what makes sense to me
I am, sadly, British, but we have some absolutely banging TV and it is grossly underrated on all sorts of old TV retrospectives and stuff! My 500 aims to fix that, with a great deal of shows from British channels throughout the years. There's plenty of stuff from America too, most of which we had here too as imports, and shows from around the world in similar situations such as from Canada, Italy, Australia, France, etc. However, I'm definitely limited by what I see! If I haven't seen/heard-of something and neither have my friends, it probably won't be in that list! To rectify this, feel free to send me suggestions! Please try to do this with as much information as possible, and links are super welcome!
The shows are also spread out across time. We have themes as old as the 50s, and as new as 2023! I tried to take a good spread but through a combination of personal bias/nostalgia and sheer quantity, the 2000s is probably the most-represented era. This was hard to help, but again, send more suggestions!
There will be some shows that you have never heard of! If they seem really, really obscure? Probably me or a friend watched it, and we will not hear anything bad about it. Gotta have variety!
But with that said, stay tuned for some fierce theme tune rating! And if I miss a theme or make a mistake, let me know nicely! I have NOT seen all these shows, and some I know next-to-nothing about, so take it easy, and help me out!
Hope you enjoy!

Trans Head-cannon Thing
[With a drawing included at the end]
I know I kin only mostly male characters and usually its the one that are a bit more feminine and/or fruity in their design or personality. This of course leads to the “what if they were transmasc?” Head-cannon. Which I full support and anyone and everyone can like and believe whatever they want. I am most of the time a big time supporter of the trans head-cannon. But rarely ever enact this head-cannon in my own content because I without fail run into the obstacle of, “if they’re transmasc, then I can’t draw them in pretty dresses!” Then I get sad.
But, and I don’t really know how to explain this, however I have recently looked back at a series and one character I usually ignored within it. (They’re now my favorite character from that series) that series is the 2012 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and the character is Leo (because of course it is). I’ve also watched the 2003 series and I now realize I am just a Leo kinnie across the board. Minus 2007, he can go die. I used to say I liked Donnie just cause I like purple but now I see the truth. The Donnies were either not fruity enough, were simps, or didn’t get enough screen time for me to get to know them. Thats not say I didn’t enjoy them, all the turtles are great but I am a sucker for the clearly (to some measure) gay ones.
Now you might be saying “2012 Leo isn’t gay. He likes his sister too much for that.” And I get that. In fact after the revelation that Karai was his sister he backed off. But not all the way off, because he kept trying to hangout with her in later seasons. His emo phase literally was spent with him getting in on girls night with Karai and Shinigami and joining them in committing crimes. In those left over ‘signs of a crush’ after the reveal as some call them there weren’t really any blushes or hearts or any clear indication of romantic feelings between them. It mostly was just Leo trying to be a bad boy and doing what he thought was right, hence his emo/goth phase. No one was as emo and goth as Karai so obviously he went to her. All this is too say that yes, while there may have been a bit of romantic feels on Leos part at first. I think that the signs after their (kinda) blood connection was brought to light , cause the turtles were mutated with Splinters blood or DNA and Karai is Splinters daughter, and overall feelings was just ✨gender envy✨.
Cause I mean like everyone agrees that Rise Leo is in some capacity attracted to men. And 2003 Leo is just too but only for Usagi. They both gave me the fruity vibes but 2012 Leos fruity vibes tasted a bit different. I couldn’t put my finger on it until I saw on TikTok that people were saying that he was transfem and therefore was actually a she. And I was like, “yes! Thats it! Thats what the vibes the fruit was giving!”
So may I present to you ✨her✨
Tumblr media
God I haven’t drawn the 2012 turtles since elementary. Muscle memory didn’t kick in or more likely didn’t exist but I’d say this turned out pretty good. So in reference to the problem I presented in the first paragraph I have found the solution of just drawing a transfem character.

Wifi's (and friend) Ultimate Turtle Journey: Mirage Volume 1 skip list.
Have you ever started to get into a really popular media that you know next to nothing about? And the amount of ingrained cultural knowledge and predisposed popular opinions to have about it all left you all discombobulated? Did you then decide the best way to handle that was to go through all the media in as chronological an order as possible?
Well. Hi! I (and my companion in turtledom) did that with every cartoon, movie, anime ova, touring musical production and educational VHS we could find of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. But now plumb out of media of the moving picture sort, it was time to get into comics.
This is not a list trying to make you read mirage, nor will it be a "just the good plot stuff" list. Those already exist! This is list for anyone also taking a maximalist approach to enjoying art, and letting the ideas of the people who make it flow over you. I think friction in consumption of art can be really interesting. But I will try and give you context for what that friction might be, and the lines I drew about no longer thinking something was worth my time (I never skipped tho i did occasional skim >_>). SO! Lets get too it!
Mirage 1-11, and the character micros (named after each character, published in order: Raphael, Michelangelo, Donatello and Leonardo)
This is the "core text" as it were. Obviously read it. This is probably what you need if you want to get into fights on the internet too. I might recommend a pit stop to read Eastman and Laird Fugitoid, maybe after issue 4. Issue 8 is a crossover issue. You could read the micros however but read no. 9, then Leo, then 10.
#12-18 are, brace yourself. Filler. Oh the terror. I think mostly good! 12-15 all got adapted into 03 episodes. Here's the break down.
#19-21: Return to New York
#12 - A Laird turtle romp, has good character work, action.
#13 - A guest issue, but Michael Dooney's best imho, makes sense chronologically and in tone. Women's depiction in comics Advisory warning.
#14 - An Eastman turtle romp, cute Casey and April stuff, a favourite of mine.
#15 - Laird again, and adventure again. good art.
#16 - A guest issue, Mark Martin, also his strongest imho. Not very chronologically based (a time travel plot in fact) but I'd recommend this even to people who don't read mirage.
#17 - Eric Talbot, kinda of a guest issue, within its own text, non canonical, but cute. Mikey focused.
#18 - Guest issue, Mark Bodé. The plot is. Anti MSG messaging? Turtles go to China. Really truly, you can skip this.
Yes again, obviously you should read these. I like them so much. Brothers! Feelings! Murder! Its the works.
Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #1-7
Probably not were they go by publication date, but for simplicity... Lighter, easy read comics, all of them were adapted into 03 btw. I say read em, I saved them up for when mainline got too vexing. But probably at least read 4 [I, monster] and 6 [Leatherhead].
#22-48. Yes, most of em. Are "the guest era". But painting this large a chunk with the same skip or dont skip brush is beyond the pale. Some of the best and worst of Mirage is in here. Lets break it down.
#22-23. Sequels to #16. Not as strong, much weirder. But if you wanted more. You've got it. Has one gag I really like, and one I really don't.
#24-26. Rich Veitch's river saga. THE frictional art of frictional art. Emotional arc for the turtles, political and spiritual messaging. Advisory Warning for depiction of an Indigenous (Of an Algonquian tribe, probably Abenaki?) character and themes of colonialism, lots of offensive language used tho also, pro land back? Mysticism abound. If you read it, lets talk!
#27 Michael Dooney, a revisit of characters from Tales of TMNT, Radical and Carnage. Now in a... spiritual battle involved in (I believe, Lakota) religion. Stuff to chew on maybe, less offensive langauge but also maybe less to say. Dooney's treatment of women hints to a pattern.
#28 Written by Stephen Murphy and with art by Jim Lawson, makes this technically canonical, and regardless. Introspective and emotional. SO FUCKING GOOD. Also an 03 episode.
#29. AC Farley, read it for the art alone. Wild plot, fun romp.
#30. Rich Veitch again, cars! the grotesque! Highway culture. Very strange, pretty fun.
#31. Mike Zuilli and Stephen Murphy. This is truly, an AU. Continued in #35-36 (Sans Murphy). Maybe interesting to check out? Weird ass hell, maybe not in a good way? The strangest Splinter and Shredder. Mysticism, ofc. 36 Does end interestingly at least.
#32 Mark Bodé again, April and a female friend in Egypt. Cursed mummies, bad outfits. Truly skipable. (Also side bar: If someone told you this is the Only issue were April is drawn as Black or ambiguous. I Disagree. Lot of artists drew her in a lot of ways)
#33. Richard Corben. Silly turtles time travel. Cute, though the art might have given me motion sickness???
#34. Rich Hedden & Tom McWeeney. This is a Parody of the TMNT. Also not very funny. Also depicts a man having delusions and the shooting himself. (As comedy. of course. and its still not funny). Extremely skippable, though despite myself, the shots were said man sees the world populated with turtle mutants are kinda nice.
#35-36. See 31.
Phew. Done. #50-62 is the City At War arc, and finale of Mirage vol. 1. Read it! And good luck skipping any of it, it's like. 5 parallel story lines across 13 issues.
#37 Rick McCollum and Bill Anderson. I. ADORE. This issue. On the record have been singing its praises. Extremely characterful of the turtles, a reptile specific spiritual journey. Sequel to a mini "Donatello: The Ring", from Turtle Soup #2.
#38-40. Hedden and McWeeney again, this time, hornier. Still not funny. SKIPPPPPP.
#41. Matt Howarth. A look into the turtles, and Splinters, dreams. Just a cute little comic.
#42. McCollum and Anderson. Pretty good, an immortal witch summons ghosts of famous people to do her bidding (kidnap the turtles!). Mild advisory for women's depictions in comics, at least their drawn cooler... I like their Renet actually.
#43. Paul Jenkins and A.C. Farley. More of that good art! Donnie in his FEELINGS. Wild premise.
#44. Rick Arthur. Sequel to "The Name is Lucindra" Turtle soup vol 2. Raph gets a female sparring partner. There's maybe some feelings involved? its fine.
#45. Dan Berger. The return of Leatherhead! Probably canonical? I like it!
#46-47. Michael Dooney. A plot thread from #9 gets picked up. The turtles time travel to feudal Japan to stop a bad guy. Doesn't get more classic that that. Dooney's depiction of women goes turbo nuclear with this tho. Renet is less garbed than very and being man handled A lot.
#48-49 You have reached normal continuity by mirage regulars again. Casey Jones has a moral quandary of vigilantism. Return of Nobody from Tales of the TMNT. The turtles say some based shit about cops.
And that's pretty much it! I'm not skip listing all the side content cause i haven't read it yet and also. If your the kinda sicko who wants to read Mirage's Gobbledygook, Grunts, Turtle Soup or Plastron Cafe... What would you need a skip list for?
Wow! Now that's really it! You did it! Catch me next time when I finally know what the fuck happened with the rest of Mirage's publishing! Or what the hell is up with image comics? Or maybe those darn adventure comics from Archie.

[tv review] rise of the teenage mutant ninja turtles (2018-20)
Tumblr media
okay, well, hi the best interpretation of the teenage mutant ninja turtles ever!!! and a very warm hello to all of the good guy human characters being black.
it took me a minute to adjust to this approach but now whenever i watch a different version of my turtle boys, i find that i really miss this one! wild, right? like, i think this has largely surpassed all the other versions of the ninja turtles as the ur version that i subconsciously compare all the others to.
all four turtles have very distinct personalities, quirks, and relationships with each other. and in a first for the series, they also all have drastically different designs that suit their personalities and make them easy to differentiate from each other. (yes, this has been done in a more limited way before, but this is the first time i’ve seen it be really effectively employed.)
this series has the best version of basically every character, aside from shredder and splinter who already have pretty great fully-realized versions elsewhere. but this series' version of both characters is perfect for the rest of the series around them.
but maybe most noteworthy, this series has by far the best version of april. no other version of her comes even remotely close.
the only reason that this next character reimagining isn't as big of a deal as april is because you don't find out who they are until literally the last episode. but it's one of the most genuinely delightful twists i've ever seen in a television show, and the amount of patience required to pull it off is just ridiculous, like i genuinely cannot believe they did this. it's also very genuinely fulfilling to me because i usually do not care about this character in most versions, but i actually love them here.
now. i don't usually worry a ton about spoilers, but i consider this next to be probably the most major spoiler of anything that can possibly be spoiled in the entire show. despite not usually caring even a little about spoilers i am extremely glad i didn't know this until it happened, like i basically shrieked in delight when it happened. so for once i do genuinely recommend not reading these next few paragraphs if you think you're likely to check out this show anytime soon. if you don't think you're gonna watch the show, though, please read them because i want to gush about it.
(begin spoilers.)
still there? cool. so there's this super hyperactive tomboyish foot clan ninja who kicks all kinds of ass throughout the show. and the show is super cagey about their identity throughout, but in a way that either doesn't register, or feels very wink-wink, nudge-nudge. and (and i think this is exactly what they intended), from the character's very first appearance, i was like, "oh, okay, hi karai." and spent the rest of the series wondering why the show was being so cagey about karai's identity. like, this was obviously karai! a much different version of her, sure, but it couldn't be more obvious, right?
i was actually super smug about it, every time the character showed up i was like "hi, karai." my boyfriend had to be laughing at me the whole time. because here's the thing.
it's not karai.
literally in the last episode of the series, you find out the character is cassandra jones, but prefers to go by casey.
AAAAAAAA.
look, guys, i'm pretty sure the last time i thought casey jones was cool, i was twelve, but this casey fucking rules, and i cannot believe they kept their secret until the end of the damn show. just. damn, guys!!
and that's before you even factor in the gender stuff! because whether this is the first female version of the character, or if you want to headcanon them as a trans guy for bonus points, either way they're just amazing, guys. i love them so much.
(end spoilers.)
this show as a whole is just so good. it balances action and comedy so well. it can be serious when it needs to be. and every single character is so good, it makes you care about them so much and the turtles (and a lot of the side characters) are just the best boys, and you end up so invested in their happiness.
i love this show so much, you guys. CANNOT recommend highly enough.

Extra tag to give a bit of background:
🏆: Badge of honor; pushed through shitty companies/fear of not happening and was continued awesomely, even if some sacrifices had to be made
🤏: Independent (aka indie); made by independent creators instead of big corporation like Disney or Netflix (yeah this one's just because of the GLITCH Productions shows lol)
🎤: Encore; was finished, but was loved so much they decided to make more of it against the original plan

Representation!
🏳️‍🌈: Queer (lesbian, gay, bisexual, ace, etc) canon representation! (Disclaimer: Label is included on media where the actual showing is very, VERY brief, so don't expect all of them to be full of the rep. Dw tho, lots of them have plenty)
🏳️‍⚧️: Trans umbrella (transgender, non-binary, etc) canon representation! (Same disclaimer as the Queerness label)
♿: Disability (from amputees to wheelchair users to chronic illness and beyond; wide umbrella) canon representation! (Includes allegories/coding that isn't a disability faced in real world but is commonly considered disability rep; i.e. the Owl Beast Curse from The Owl House)
♾️: Neurodivergence canon representation! (Yes, I understand that MANY of these beloved characters are super ND-coded, but this labeling system is all canon only. I don't wanna be responsible for bait. Well, okay. MAYBE I'll put it if they're so obviously ND that the show figured they didn't have to put it explicitly [like I did for Luz Noceda, though her neurodivergence was later actually confirmed by a background detail in Season 3.] and/or if real ND fans collectively relate to the character and accept them as one of us.)

If you notice that a media contains one of the things I made emoji labels for but I didn't label that trait there (i.e. I forgot to put a 🏳️‍🌈 for "Queer Rep" on something with a canon queer character), go ahead and let me know through my ask box! /nf
And vice versa! If you think I put a label on something that doesn't fit that category, feel free to correct me 🩷 (i.e. I put a 🏢 for "Finished" on a series that's still ongoing)
Tell me where you are in that media first, though, to make sure I don't accidentally spoil something! If you ask about something that is coming later in the story than where you're at, I'll just pull a Gooseworx. ("You'll have to wait and see.") I'll give you a general checkpoint (like an episode/chapter) though, where if you get there and still haven't noticed the thing, come ask again and I'll point it out.
I will, however, freely speak about missable background things and things confirmed outside of the show by the creator of someone. For instance, if someone who's never seen Star Vs. the Forces of Evil asks, "what? Where's the gay in that show?" I can tell you that A) in the background of a Season 2 episode, there are two boys kissing in the background for one brief scene, and B) that though Princess Star only shows obvious interest in boys on screen (note: obvious. there's still some slight hints of her liking girls that snuck past Disney), the creator confirmed her to be pansexual. Neither of those are spoilers for the actual story or anything important, so I can freely tell you.

ABOUT ME
Call me Ky (rhymes with eye)
I'm 22 & a libra
I'm a WOC
I'm sadly a working girly
I'm not straight (I don't have a gender preference)
I use she/her pronouns
I'm pretty introverted & shy
I suffer from depression & anxiety
I've had a tumblr since middle school
This is my 1st time being interactive with others on this app so please be sweet
I literally made this as like a low-key rant diary/Void to scream my interests & thoughts because life, years of trauma,& damn near crippling anxiety has fucked up my social skills & I just need an outlet. I don't expect I guess anyone to respond to this. I just don't want to continue being alone with my feelings & I think this could be a place to start. If anyone does respond to this you're welcome to comment (within reason & with kindness I beg of you),but be warned I'm super shy/anxious & will shy away from responding to messages (think of me as a scared stray & don't shake your pet food can at me too intently). I just want to get all my jitters/hyperfixations/Madness/general feelings & ickiness out. Also just an FYI dni if you're a minor/uncomfortable or triggered of talks of abuse & mental illness/a bigot of any kind/sex stuff (I'm not gonna go on about my nonexistent intimate life don't worry. I don't even really talk about sex like that I just have an interest in femdom stuff from time to time (me being the dom) & I think the psychology of it is interesting as well as the dynamic).
Ok now for the fun stuff
My interests (off the top of my head) include:
Movies
*horror/action/sci-fi/thriller/animated movies from my childhood & "some" of the new stuff
I like most MCU & DCEU movies (I owned a tumblr in the mid to late 2010s I'm practically a veteran. But I will say I have more nostalgia for the older mcu movies, but I kind of fell off in the past few years of fond remembrance outside of fandom for it as a whole. I actually really enjoy most of the new stuff (all of the shows except fatws/some of the 1st season of loki)
My favs include
Studio ghibli (I didn't watch a single movie till the age of 19) specifically Howl's moving castle/Spirited away/princess mononoke/kiki's delivery service/arriety/the cat returns. These movies fill with legit smiles & warmth
All the john wick movies (mf Keanu Reeves)
All of the evil dead movies
The lost boys
Scream 1/2/4/6
The old bratz/Monster high/barbie movies (barbie specifically from the vhs-to before the 2010s)
Jennifer's body
Bride of chucky/seed of chucky/Cult of chucky
The 1st 2 bill & Ted movies

There's definitely more I just can't think off anything else

First Take: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem - mean, green but so lovable
SYNOPSIS: The film follows the Turtle brothers as they work to earn the love of New York City while facing down an army of mutants.
Who would’ve thought that Point Grey - a company best known for raunchy adult comedy clearly written under the influence of something - would partner with Nickelodeon to make a brand new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie? Nobody did, but it’s a combination that seems to work. For the first time in years, we have an animated TMNT playing in cinemas, competing with the might of Barbie and Oppenheimer, and even with that competition… it is so nice to see it get a wide release.
youtube
Jeff Rowe is a fantastic choice to direct this one, coming in at 1 hour 39 minutes it’s short, snappy, straight to the point, and gets the job done in good time, and this is testament to the script he co-wrote with Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, Dan Hernandez and Benji Samit - yes, Rogen has co-written a PG certificate film. And he NAILED it. This is done with a lot of love for the source material, yet the animation style is completely new and unique, obviously using Spider-Verse as a clear inspiration, right down to the score- if Pemberton could use synths on those two films, Turtles gets Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross - and a very Tony Hawk Pro Skater kind of soundtrack to boot.
Tumblr media
Onto the cast, and this is where Rogen and his mates have really excelled in creating a fun film - Micah Abbey, Shamon Brown Jr, Nicolas Cantu and Brady Noon are outstanding choices for the turtles, actually looking and sounding like teenagers for a change - supporting them is Ayo Edibiri, Jackie Chan as Master Splinter, Ice Cube as the villain, and Rose Byrne, Natasia Demetriou, Paul Rudd, Hannibal Buress, Maya Rudolph, John Cena, and Rogen himself. It’s so obvious that they are all fans, because this is one of those kinds of films that just gets its assignment and delivers a top quality piece of big screen entertainment.
THE VERDICT
Mutant Mayhem is an absolute cracker of a way to start a new Turtles franchise - with its own style, a brilliant soundtrack, and a knowing look ahead to the already confirmed TV spinoff and inevitable sequel, there’s something for everyone if that certain ‘pink’ film gets a bit too much for audiences.

Complete - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge
Tumblr media
All rise for the anthem.
During my struggles with "Resident Evil 4", JG and I took a break to plow through the story mode for "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge." While that initial attempt took us a couple of hours, I ended up putting in 17 hours total with the game. Ya know. To max things out. Considering the amount of time I put in with this—and the fact that I was actually enjoying it—it felt wrong just to leaving a little "Hey, this game's good!" message on my blog. Like, yes? This game is good. But man, what's the point of these evaluations if I don't say how good?
You read all of these, right? 😉
"Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge" is a beat 'em up game stylized to match the 1990s Konami beat 'em ups (particularly, the Arcade TMNT game and "Turtles in Time.") So, it's 100% millennial bait. In this particular installment, Shredder, Krang, and a slew of villains both well-known and rare are scheming to…well, you know. Do the usual. Puncture holes in reality, drag in threats both from above and below, snatch and redeploy the Statue of Liberty as a weapon. Just another day at work! Obviously, none of that can stand, so the boys in green are deployed to once again put the lid back on Shredder's schemes and save New York City and its most iconic landmark.
Oh, and you can play as April O'Neil, Splinter, and Casey Jones. Absolutely sick roster. The only way it could have gotten better was if someone called Stan Sakai.
Tumblr media
Honestly, the roster announcements were how I first heard about this game. Like, obviously, you can't have a Ninja Turtles game without all four boys being accessible in some way. It's definitely not the first time that the ASC have been playable in a Turtles game, either. However, it always catches my attention when they are available. Like, I thought they would all have to be unlockable, but Casey's the only one you have to put elbow grease in to get.
Adding to the variety is a series of statistics that each character carries. These include range, speed, and power. Breakdowns on how these works for each character are below:
Leonardo: R2, S2, P2 (balanced)
Raphael: R1, S2, P3 (close and powerful)
Donatello: R3, S1, P2 (slow, ranged)
Michelangelo: R1, S3, P2 (close and quick)
April: S2, S3, P1 (weak but quick)
Splinter: R2, S1, P3 (slow but powerful)
Casey: R3, S2, P2 (mostly balanced but longer ranged)
Now, it's all up to you in terms of what works or doesn’t. Power and speed were influential on my play style, but I didn't have a preference between the two. Range is the least important stat to me, particularly considering the major advantage of being face to face with an enemy (the throwing system.) So, Donatello wasn't exactly my cup of tea for this game (which surprised me!) Granted, I was able to beat the final boss with all characters, so it's not like anyone's unplayable here. It just helps to know what you like and who your partner(s) is/are playing. Like, JG and I ended up staggering a speed/power duo with Michelangelo and Splinter, and that worked well!
A lot of the mechanics in this game are "previous game, plus" in terms of description. You've got the base jump + attack from pretty much Arcade on, plus "Turtles in Time"'s throwing system, plus "Manhattan Project"'s special moves, but all built up.
Like, the special move system? There's no damage when you use it now! It's a special meter that you can stack for up to three uses, depending on how well you are comboing. If you need a quick one, you can tuck yourself out of combat, taunt the enemies, then come back in to deliver a crushing blow. Hell, you get three versions of these, too! Plus, a damage boosting Radical mode if you manage to stack three meter's worth of combo charge. Although, honestly, unlocking the aerial special was enough for me. Not that the ground one isn't nice, but the aerial one allows for quick punishment and recovery. (Never quite got the full use out of the dodge one, but hey! It's nice to have.)
Additionally, there's a charge mechanic that you can use to bust through enemy defenses. I found myself using this quite a bit, especially as a follow-up to a basic combo string. There are even some enemies designed to be broken down using this very mechanic. So, it helps to practice it!
Another excellent adjustment is how the game handles multiplayer. You can get up to six fighters going at once, and the game will stack up its difficulty to match. More of the healing pizzas are now group shared, preventing arguments with pickups. Additionally, you can initiate a high-five to share your health with a partner, helping to negate some differences in health. Best of all, you can even try to revive a downed player! It's not always a guarantee to pick them up, but if you happen to clear a wave with them still on the floor, you can pick them back up, dust them off, and send them on their way. Sure, they don't come back at full health, but it's better than completely eating a life.
Although, if you don't like any combat adjustments, you can turn all of that off for the arcade mode. Mad lads!
I think JG and I stress-tested the multiplayer well, considering we finished this while playing on opposite ends of the Atlantic Ocean. About the only error I noticed here was an occasional animation desync. Still, though. Considering the distance, that was solid.
This game both rewards and punishes players with previous TMNT game experience, and I find that hilarious. Like, if you suffered through the first Shredder fight of "Turtles in Time" and remember how to handle the throwing system, the Chrome Dome fight will be a walk in the park. But, if you were one of those kids that spammed the Jump + Attack combos from way back in the NES days, fighting Triceratons will be an absolute mess. (Dudes have an instant anti-air parry!) Hell, previous experience may even leave you gun-shy about using the special mechanic. Which, nah, man. Abuse it for all it's worth. Be a little prick about taunting, too.
It would have been nice to have a practice room for running through drills like in a fighting game. Like, there's a tutorial demonstration, but it's not quite as helpful as having a little practice room with some kind of dummy. I mean, the game can be learned on the fly. It's just one of those things that would have been a cherry on top.
Aesthetically, this game nails its old-school theming. The sprite work is both authentic and hilarious, particularly in terms of blink-and-you'll-miss-it background jokes. Like, check this Foot graffiti:
Tumblr media
I mean, LMAO for redundancy.
While I wasn't big on the vocal tracks for the OST, I do think that the instrumental compositions are appropriate, especially when it comes to tempo and the synth instruments used. Hell, I even bought the album off Bandcamp. Additionally, the four original voice actors for the Ninja Turtles themselves are present in game, which was a great get! Those who couldn't reprise do stick out a little bit (particularly, April and Shredder's voice acting), but hell. It's been 35 years. Some of those actors are gone, man. It's a miracle we've got who we got.
Although, there seems to be a vocal oversight when it comes to picking up sushi. Like, it sounds like Splinter's line is being used for both Casey and April. Very weird. Surely, something else could have been done for that?
Honestly, I'm surprised that this game exists. Like, in terms of nostalgia exploitation, I was expecting Nickelodeon to hop on this train a long time ago, particularly in terms of the two TV shows it produced since its license acquisition in 2009. I mean, really! Think about it! It's amazing that the 2012 and 2018 series got to have as much aesthetic and tone/lore variance as they did. There literally could have been another series that was just 1989 2.0. This is, as of now, probably as close to that vision as they've gotten. Well, that, and cranking out toys for the geezers with cash. That's just gonna happen.
This feels like something from a better timeline. From a world where Konami wasn't sitting on its ass. And man, did this scratch an itch.
Although, I'm the kind of freak that would want this with the 2004 series. Goddamn, that was a wonderful nightmare. At least, while it was still on Fox.

The reason I say "everything is on Marinette's shoulders" and act like there's no other option is because - in terms of storytelling language - the writers have pretty consistently conveyed that Marinette is the only key player. Everything being on her shoulders is the way it's supposed to be. No one else is allowed to be narratively important unless we're counting the villains and they obviously don't matter for this topic.
I never know how much others study/understand/pay attention to storytelling language, so I'm going to explain what I mean by giving two of the main ways Miraculous is conveying Marinette's role and then I'm going to compare those to how other well known properties handle the same types of situations to show what I mean when I say that the writers have made it pretty clear that they don't want Marinette to have a true team. (And yes, I'm very curious what that means for season six as this issue will be even more painful now that there are 18 full time heroes.)
Issue 1: Marinette is the only character who must be there for a fight to be won. Everyone else is optional.
Teen Titans has an episode called How Long is Forever? In this episode, the character Starfire is pulled into the future where she finds that the Titans have fallen apart. Some of them are okay solo, others are totally miserable, but the general feeling of the episode is that, without her, the team fell apart.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2003) has an episode called Same as it Never Was. In this episode, the character Donatello is pulled into the future where he finds that his brothers have grown apart and gone their own ways. They're all surviving, but generally miserable. The implied message of this episode is that, without Donnie, the team fell apart.
Kim Possible has a movie called A Sitch in Time. In this movie, Kim's partner - Ron - moves away and Kim stops being able to win fights. The ultimately message of the movie is that, without Ron, Kim can't be a hero.
I could go on listing examples because it's incredibly common for team shows to have an episode/movie about this type of thing. The reason why it's so common is that it's a really easy way to make a good story based on a concept that's supposed to be inherent to team shows: without the key team members, everything quickly falls apart.
As Miraculous has gone on, it has consistently allowed Marinette to win no matter who is by her side. There is no key team member she can't win without. Chat Noir has missed multiple battles without causing any real issues and Marinette defeated freaking Monarch with no one by her side! The only reason she ultimately lost was because she trusted him for some reason. While we're on the topic, it's worth noting that, when she fought Hawkmoth with Chat Noir at her side (see Chat Blanc & Ephemeral), she lost, further driving this "only Marinette matters" issue home.
The two times Marinette gave up her earrings (Hack-San and Kwami's Choice), she was still ultimately needed to win the battle. In Hack-San, her civilian self was a key part of saving the day. In Kwami's Choice, someone else wielding the earrings almost let Monarch make his wish and Marinette had to fight him as a civilian to keep Paris safe because only Marinette can save the day. (Yes, Adrien was allowed to win as Mr. Bug two times, but Lady Noir was still involved with those fights. The opposite has never been true. Adrien is optional. Marinette is not.)
Issue 2: Marinette Trusting Others Too Much Always Backfires
Teams are supposed to be built around trust and friendship. The better a team knows each other, the stronger their bond of friendship. A bond that lets them win even when all hope seems lost.
The Sailor Moon movie the Promise of the Rose has Sailor Moon able to stop an asteroid from hitting Earth thanks to the love of her friends and boyfriend
In the game Kingdom Hearts, the main character - Sora - has his weapon stolen near the end of the game. Thinking of his friends and the bonds they've formed powers him up and the weapon magically returns to him
In the anime Yu-Gi-Oh, the first season ends with the main character fighting a mind reader. His friends are trapped outside the battle and thinking of him. They join together and think of their friend, sending their love to him. That love blocks the mind reader's powers, ultimately letting the main character win the game.
Miraculous is supposedly a love and friendship show. The title song is constantly telling us that "the power of love always so strong!" and Chat Noir loves to parrot the line, "you and me against the world." It is not out of line to list it alongside the above properties. And yet, in the world of Miraculous, Marinette is never rewarded for trusting her love or her friends.
The two times she trusted Chatdrien with her secrets, the world literally ended. When she trusted Alya with a full time miraculous, Alya almost immediately betrayed her by telling Nino, a move that ultimately puts the fox miraculous in their enemy's hands.
Marinette trusted Luka enough to risk him learning her identity and that risk actually happened. But he never told her and ultimately got banished to Brazil without his knowledge helping her in a meaningful way. The one time she trusted Alya to hand out a Miraculous to others, SeniNino almost got away with the turtle because only Marinette can be trusted to hand out miraculous (which was the point of that episode, imo. They wanted to kill the idea that Alya would do that now.)
I could go on, but I think I've made my point. Marinette is allowed to trust others, but only in small ways. When she tries to truly share her bigger responsibilities, things always backfire. This is not how the show would be written if Marinette shouldering everything was supposed to be seen as a flaw. For it to be a canon flaw, her lack of trust should backfire and she should be learning to share her burden. Instead, when she shares too much of her burden, she's usually punished. You could even go so far as to say that her trusting Adrien was what cost her the victory at the end of season four as there really was no reason why she needed to get Adrien there. She could have wielded the dog herself and everything would have been find.
Conclusion
When evaluating characters in a piece of media like Miraculous, I don't look at what the characters logically should be doing because they're fictional characters. They are slaves to the writers whims, so I have to do my best to figure out what the writers are trying to do and then evaluate the characters through that lens. To do this, I have to look at trends like the two I discussed above.
When I look at the trends surrounding Marinette, I just feel bad for the poor girl. It's really obvious that the writers want her to be this big powerful figure who does it all on her own, but that's a terrible message for little girls. You can't do it all on your own! Everyone needs a support system.
While I'm not planning to watch the sixth season, I do hope that the existence of a true team means that this dynamic is going to change. I hope that Marinette gets to trust others and hand off responsibilities without being punished for it, but it's really not up to her. It's all up to the writers and - since the writers of Miraculous are nothing if not mercurial - she may just get that chance! Or they may stick to their beloved status quo and keep her trembling under a mountain of responsibility. I would not bet money on either outcome.
You know what would make the Lucky Charm more balanced? Make it so that there are times where other characters figure it out, not just Ladybug. That way, it doesn't make Ladybug hypercompent and makes it possible for other people to save the day.
I don't mind Ladybug being the one best suited to Lucky Charm. I don't think it makes her hyper competent because you don't need a Lucky Charm to save the day. It's just the way that she saves the day. The other characters should have their own unique talents that let them win fights. Generally speaking, that's how strong teams work.
For a random example, let's talk about the teenage mutant ninja turtles simply because I think most people know something about that franchise. The character Donatello (aka Donnie) is the team's tech guy. He makes all kinds of inventions that help them save the day. The show would not be improved if all four of the turtles were able to take on this inventor role. I'd argue that it would actually be lessened because the characters would become interchangeable. This is something that the franchise seems to agree with as each version of the show gives each turtle unique skills and personality traits that makes each of them indispensable in their own way, which is what I think Miraculous should have done with the temp heroes.
That being said, I do think that there's a way to make your idea work. I'd just go a slightly different, more lore balancing route since Lucky Charm is technically bad lore and you all know how I feel about bad lore. So let's talk about giving it a minor tweak and how I think that would actually improve things.
Tikki is supposed to be Creation, not Luck, so the Lucky Charm shouldn't have anything to do with Luck. It should just be pure Creation where the holder comes up with a thing they want and that thing then pops up. It could also have a give and take element where the holder gets what they asked for if they want something specific, but they could also just call the power as a hail Mary and Tikki would come up with something on the fly, leading to the occasional puzzle.
This leads me to my proposed changed.
I personally think it would be hilarious and honestly more fun for Marinette's character if she could summon anything she wanted, but the Lucky Charms stay exactly the same because that's just how her mind works. Even when Tikki is helping, it's still all wacky items because Tikki knows how Marinette is and just goes with it.
For example, in Copy Cat, Ladybug turns a spoon into a hook for a cobbled together fishing pole. Wouldn't it be even funnier if Marinette summoned a spoon on purpose because she was thinking of the makeshift thing she cobbled together in order to fish up something she dropped from her balcony? Then, post fight, Chat Noir praises her like always, only to then ask, "So why a spoon and not a fishing hook?" And Ladybug just stares at him because oh, right, those are things they make. She could have done that. Ooops.
And in Malediktator where she summons a sniper rifle to get a laser pointer? Well, she was thinking about this silly comic about a cat assassin! She totally spaced on the fact that you could just get a laser pointer by itself.
Eventually, her team learns to just go with it and not ask questions. Meanwhile, the general public thinks that the Lucky Charm is some random item that Ladybug has to figure out and no one bothers to correct this misunderstanding. You can even have a running gag of new team members learning the truth and going through the acceptance process of, "Hey, you try thinking up how to set a trap while a 5 meter tall lollipop is trying to crush you! Your mind goes to what it knows, not to the ideal solution, okay???"
If we go with this setup, then other people can wield the Ladybug and use Lucky Charm effectively, they'll just use it in a very different way from the way Marinette uses it. There will also be people who are just not suited to the Ladybug since that was initially how the powers were supposed to work and it made perfect sense. Kwamis should have ideal holders along with okay backups and terrible backups. I personally think Alya would be an okay backup since she's creative, but not creative in the same way Marinette is, leading her to be a lesser Ladybug. Adrien, on the other hand, should generally suck at the Ladybug as he simply doesn't have that style of creative thinking. Which is fine. Better than fine, even! You don't want your characters to be interchangeable! They should all have strengths and weaknesses!
This is one of the show's big flaws. Since everything is on Marinette's shoulders, the other characters rarely get a chance to shine and so they feel interchangeable. For example, if gift always shows the target what THEY want, then why does Rose need to be the one to wield it? Juleka could wield it just as easily. And if Ladybug is generally the one telling Marc and Nathaniel what to summon with their powers, then their creativity is not needed. Anyone could wield the rooster and the goat! The show has completely failed to understand what makes teams memorable and so we have a bloated, boring team whose presence I'm dreading because they had five seasons to set these guys up and yet here we are.
