HEARTSTEEL Vocal Headcanons

*gasp* wow look whos using capital letters LOL. am too lazy to edit the whole headcanons that i wrote in notes. anyways, hello fellow heartbeats :D heartsteel's been absolutely taking over my brain so i would like to share some headcanons i came up with hehe. these are just general headcanons of what i think their vocal dynamic in their work is, but starting from tomorrow i'll be posting a headcanon series of the band x reader so i hope you look forward to that ^-^

When I look at HEARTSTEEL, they make me think that they'd be a group like Stray Kids - equally strong in singing and rapping, making songs their own and making their own songs. They generally have liberty/self-authority over how their group works, not following trends and conventions and doing things their own way.

Kayn would have a really nice, powerful voice, though with a slight rasp? Obviously something higher than Rhaast's but not too high (sorry Cal :"))

I do know that Rhaast is supposed to be his stage persona (and I can also see the headcanon that he sold his soul to the devil to be a better performer), but I'd totally love it if Kayn would perform as himself too AND for him to sing ALONGSIDE Rhaast! To be honest, in my fanscripts, I already consider Rhaast a seperate vocalist from Kayn.

He can do things like belting and mixed voice! 

From the Youtaite/Cover community, I headcanon for Kayn to be voiced by Kuraiinu and/or Jonathan Young

Ughh beautiful strong vocals for Ezreal 😩🤌✨️ I can also see him being versatile with soft vocals and sub-rap too. 

Anyways, he's one of the main vocalists definitely. Is also very likely the visual of the group XD 

I imagine he also has the longest singing training of the group, so he knows his harmonies and can do some nice riffs for vocal adlibs. 

Youtaite/Cover voice headcanon for Ezreal would be Aruvn and/or Johnny 

K'Sante!! Also a big versatile!! 

I can see soooo much potential for this man but he's so undershadowed in the group 😭💔 

Is just as vocally talented as Ezreal and can also take vocal adlibs, harmonies and softer vocals too, like tobi lou did in PARANOIA, but I would like to think his main vocals is more on the rich, deeper side, something closer to his character voice

While I did say Ezreal can do adlibs and harmonies, I'd like to think that K'Sante CARRIES them while Ez does the main vocals (if he's gonna be the main vocalist that shines in chorus, let my man K'Sante have his own way of shining too please Riot), like pleaseee I can imagine that he can harmonize so well and have very very nice riffs and adlibs 💕

Yes he can also rap so he can take sub-rap roles too

Ahh out of all of the featured artists, my favorite is definitely ØZI 😊 idk his voice has me twirling my hair AHAHNSJABZNSNS

So like, when you think about it, there's a difference between vocalists in the East in the West, or at least from my listening experience. In East Asia, it's either you have a higher pitched (this is pretty much always the case for females) or lower pitched vocalist, no in between (but they have scarily huge vocal ranges 💀💀), and they have a particularly light timber, whereas I find that the West has more richer, deeper toned vocalists? It's hard to describe, but it's why a vocalist like Lily from NMIXX stands out so much in terms of vocal performance for me because they sound more like the Western vocalists. 

Now, I would say that ØZI (and I would like to throw in Bang Chan as well) are like 75% leaning more towards Western.. or at least for ØZI's rapping vocals because I haven't heard his singing XD but like it's kinda like by the second listen through I kinda thought "wait, is Sett's vocalist Asian?" Like, it was *nearly* there but not quite 

ANYWAYS. YOU CAN IGNORE ALL THAT CAUSE I WAS JUST RAMBLING.

Now onto ACTUAL Sett vocal headcanons!

Yeah definitely gonna be a main rapper alongside Kayn, but I like to think he has a strong and stable singing voice too! I do think that ØZI did some of the adlibs in PARANOIA too? Not 100% sure.

Hmm but yeah, while Sett would be mainly be a rapper, he's definitely got some solid vocal skills! 

For adlibs, he mainly does the chanting type ones since the other two main vocalists already got the melodic ones covered

Favorite childhood Characters - Rasp!

Rasp from the 1988 series, Dino Riders. He was my favorite villan character from the series.

I had two or three VHSs that I watched constantly as a kid, I was a major dinosaur gal so I watched that along with a lot of Land before time movies, dino documentaries and everything I could find with dinosaurs in it. This was along with my long time horse phase that slowly got taken over by dinosaours xD

I did take some artistic liberties with the designs of the armor and colors as it shifts a lot in the episodes. And I couldn't resist drawing a more "accurate" Raptor, the ones from the series was... um yes... Kinda accurate for the time of course, but why not take the time to draw a fluffy bby and have fun with it😋. I used an Utharaptor as a reference.

Oh and I will probably draw more characters from the series when inspiration strikes, I have a few more faves I wanna draw! 🥰

Made a thing and decided maybe it's decent enough to post. Links to refs, the blank, and rambles under the cut.

Flora: Flos adonis. "Painful recollections" in flower language according to Catharine Harbeson Waterman's Flora's Lexicon (1840).

Fauna: Flying fish. I use these as symbols for Wotrens in general, but Tsuname in particular has a scene where he glides over the ocean and enjoys a moment of freedom, so I think he best exemplifies the whimsy that is the flying fish.

Object: Marble. In hindsight though I should have picked suncatcher, that would have been a lot more symbolic, especially considering I have an old picture of him trying to catch the last rays of the sun. Well, marble will do in a pinch I guess. My thinking was a silly pun involving losing his marbles, also it being a lone marble to imply "where did the others go?" Also chose a clear one as part of the symbolism too. I went through a number of objects for him before settling on marble. Originally I was going to do "window" but couldn't find a ref I liked for it. Then I thought of "tide pool" but that's more a place than an object. Then I thought maybe one of those epoxy resin arts, but there's something really artistic and delicate about those that felt a little bit off to represent Tsuname. But yeah. He's transparent but also shallow some ways. So that's why it has to be a marble or something not that deep. Shallow in the sense that you don't have to reach very far to see what's going on inside. That's why I was thinking glass at first. Window because you can easily peer inside and see what's going on. Tide pool for a similar reason. It's not that deep, you can scoop up some crustacean crawling around in there and look at it. Also sea-theming is very important for him.

You know what I just remembered... 'bracelet' is an object that has more significance in-story. I guess it less represents him though and more his devotion to Sh'zkai...

Song: The Name of Anger by Rurutia. I also could have picked Meltdown by Lollia, but decided they both exemplify Tsuname in different ways, so I didn't need to swap it out. For the one I chose though, it's chock full of symbolism that I think really fits Tsuname well. I think of it typically in the broader context of the invasion he experienced, so in some ways, Meltdown feels a bit more personal than The Name of Anger does for Tsuname. Meltdown I associate more with his ongoing mental battle, whereas The Name of Anger deals far more with the past and how it contextualizes the present. The opening line translates to something like "The ladder of light collapses." This 'ladder of light' I think of representative of hope, but also with like a tractor beam. The light is 'collapsing' which means the beam is disappearing, and with it, any hope of getting back those that were taken by it. "Innocent live sink to the mud." . . . "Overflowing from the ark are the tears of lost children." That last one I associate with the Gaediens who were taken. "My hands transform into swords; my ventless anger continues to spiral" Feels like a fast-forward to present day Tsuname, who has become a weapon against his will and his hands are now swords, and his pent up anger from the horrors he endured spills out everywhere. Lastly I love the picture painted by this line: "The jet-black sea winds whirlpools." There's not many good translations of the song online but you can find the original lyrics here: (x) I am for sure taking some creative liberties in my associations but XD that's the rub.

Feeling: Kuebiko. I abridged the definition quite a bit on the picture to get the text to play nice.

And yes, I did ref the Ocarina of Time scarecrow because it was simpler to draw than trying to figure out how to abstract a proper photo of a scarecrow. XD;

There's a lot of interesting gems in the etymology of kuebiko as well that fit Tsuname:

Kuebiko comes from kueru (崩える), an archaic verb meaning "to break down; to become shabby and disordered", plus hiko (彦), an old epithet for "boy, young man", in turn from hi ko (日子), literally "sun child".[1][2][3] The meaning could be translated as something like "shabby young man".

Yamada no sohodo is formed like an old-fashioned formal name, from surname or literal noun Yamada (山田, lit. 'mountain + paddy'), genitive or possessive particle no (の), and sohodo (案山子),[4] in turn from soho ("sopping wet") + -do, a contraction from -bito, the compounding form of hito (人).[5] The meaning of this name could be construed as "soaked person of the mountain paddies", a euphemism for "scarecrow".

As for the kami aspect of the etymology, at first I thought he had nothing to do with folk wisdom, knowledge and agriculture, but if you think on it, maybe a little. For one thing, when he returns to the island he has a lot of knowledge of how things work out in space that no one else has, so in one sense he is sort of this oddity. Folk wisdom could be turned on its head because his devotion to what he grew up believing is a big part of his character, but he lacked the proper nuance about the belief, so this "folk wisdom" doesn't exactly pan out when he doesn't understand how it applies to the real world (or doesn't). Agriculture was the one that I thought... no, not at all, but thinking on like... the connotations of agriculture, like "living on the land" -> "devotion to the land" -> "devotion to one's home and native land" could be something.

But anyways, the TDoOS definition definitely pulls more from the latter half of that opening sentence from the wiki:

"Kuebiko (久延毘古) is ... represented in Japanese mythology as a scarecrow who cannot walk but has comprehensive awareness."

Going back to the literal meaning, "shabby boy/sun child" really fits Tsuname well. Broken down, made shabby and disordered by his past. I often associate Tsuname with the sun in a lot of ways too. His original sunny disposition, overshadowed now by the horizon, making "sunset" another potent symbol for Tsuname's present psyche.

The second name for Kuebiko in Yamada no sohodo I also thought was kind of interesting, since being a fish boy he often does drag himself out of the ocean sopping wet, but also the connotation of sopping wet with "pathetic" feels of portent. XD

Hmm. Knowing what I know now it feels kinda weird to associate him with this word, but, I guess TDoOS is useful for describing feelings!

A Cracked Smile and a Silent Shout

"Mister Luke," at Margreet’s squeaky lisp, Luke looked up from where he had been making a new set of flashcards in preparation for the upcoming math lesson. The little girl played with one of her sandy brown braids as her dark pleading eyes looked up at him, “what happened to Mister Reggie’s leg?”

Luke's insides clenched and his heart stuttered in his chest, the guilt viciously clawing its way up his throat again. The sensation of which only worsened as his eyes drifted behind Margreet to see a small field of curious and concerned eyes staring at him.  His eyes drifted further to see Alex, who was supposed to be teaching his own lesson right now, leaning against one of the tables, arms crossed in front of his chest.

Apparently, Luke had been correct in thinking that Alex wasn’t content in just angrily chewing him out in the music room. 

Of course, Alex would make him field any and all questions regarding the incident. Luke’s guilt was briefly at odds with questions of how he was the one bearing the brunt of everyone’s ire. Sure, it was his idea but Reggie had said yes.

‘And how often has Reggie said no to one of your ideas?’ Alex’s words from earlier echoed in his head and Luke knew he had a bit of a point there. 

“Mister Luke?” Margreet’s small voice now laced with a level of unease brought him back out of his head. Right, he can worry about blame placement logistics later. 

After a steadying breath, and while curling into himself slightly, Luke answered, “He hurt it.”

“Oh no.” Margreet whined out, the sentiment being echoed out around the room. And then small chaos erupted as the kids began to shout out with no regard of who they may be speaking over. 

“Is he going to be ok?” “Did you kiss it better?” “But how?” “Is he going to lose it?” 

Hoo boy. Luke ran a hand through his hair as he tried to gain control of the room again. Which took longer than it normally would. But it did give him some time to try and figure out how to answer the many questions. 

Well, honestly, no it didn’t because he’d rather be anywhere than here right now. So his brain was busy tempting him with the idea to try and distract the kids, even if he knew it wouldn’t work. 

“Ok, first off, no he isn’t going to lose it. But he’s going to have to be careful with it for a while.” Luke began his explanation. Telling a summarized version of the tale, keeping to the most basic of details. Reggie had fallen, landed poorly and broken his leg. 

He could tell by the look’s some of the older kids were shooting him they knew he wasn’t being entirely truthful. But at least he seemed to have appeased most of them with his story. “But HOW did he fall?” Aimes shouted out.

Luke glanced up and caught Alex’s very pointed look. Luke swallowed hard and took another steadying breath. Hesitantly, Luke expanded on the story. Though he took an artistic almost-adult liberty of changing some of the details. 

“You should listen to Miss Julie more.” was the near unanimous take-away as he finished his tale. A few of the kids pushed that he should go apologize to Miss Julie for not listening and to go make sure Reggie was ok.  He was practically pulled and pushed out of the room by the kids, Alex doing little more than shrugging his agreement with their plan.

Some centaur AU shenanigans! Ft. Cassius (belongs to @arcxus-of-altihex - me!) Jax (belongs to my partner) and Kaspar (belongs to @ismeneee​). I just hella wanted to draw horses, so rambles will be under the cut! 

Also, feel free to draw your OC as well and make this an art trend! No pressure though, of course ^u^

I like designing things. This was no different, haha. Ferghana horses were what I chose for Cassius because they've got place in Chinese historical legends. The name "heavenly horse" came because they were straight-legged, elegant horses with great endurance that worked well in battle 

 [TW: blood, injury] 

 The name "sweats-blood horse" occurred due to an insect that would feed on the horses and when they sweated in the field, the sweat mingled with the blood from the bites, making it seem like they sweat blood. Eerie and revered at the same time. It fit Cassius' theme well.

I did take some creative liberties with the design, though. He’s an odd mix between an Arabian, Akhal-Teke (known descendants of this breed) and artistic renditions of the Ferghana/Turkoman/Nisean horse (which was effectively the same breed, or so my sources say, all of which are now extinct). 

Likewise, Kaspar is pure Akhal-Teke (says his creator) and that makes perfect sense due to their temperament, grace and Kaspar’s backstory. He gets the tiny, dainty hooves too. I didn’t give them to Cassius since that feels like a more breed-specific thing. 

Jax is a big, strong draft horse because he's buff, with hooves the size of dinner plates. My favorite is this comparison photo between a Clydesdale hoof and a normal horseshoe, which shows just how big they get! 

Clydesdales as a breed are pretty even tempered too, and hard workers who have no trouble occupying themselves. It's funny that between the two, Jax is the chill one and Cassius is the one who gets all !!! And excited about things even tho compared to most people Cassius is the king of zen

But yeah! If you listened to all that then I applaud you, my stream of thought rambles tend to get rather long xD

2) Between the original Detective Comics #38, Batman Year Three, Robin Annual #4, Dark Victory and everything in between and beyond, what will you say is your favorite version of the Dick Grayson origin?

hiya paladin!! happy new year to you too!! i really hope this year treats you well <3

oof, the age old question, huh? which origin to choose from... hm... frankly, i'm not good at separating them all by comic or era, but the one i'm most partial to is probably his juvie origins in Robin Annual #4. truth be told, and i've seen many posts with similar view points to my own, i think setting him up in that kind of environment at such a young age largely influences his character as (most of us) know him today. a lot of the things i like about dick grayson's background is retcon, which i know a lot of people consider retcons to not count in actual dc timeline

who're we kidding here though? i don't think dc even knows what's real and what's not anymore. dc goes through so many creative directors and artists, all with different perspectives on characters and ideas on how to progress said characters, so it's honestly difficult to say what any singular character even is anymore

but i digress

i like the Robin Annual #4 origin more mostly because it throws dick into the conflict he's being forced to be made aware of, something that would impact the rest of his life as a vigilante. this is also the very defining separation between dick and bruce's view points on how justice should work (@bigskydreaming has many excellent analysis posts going into further depth, but the essentials of those differences go to dick having a unique perspective on what "justice" is and what it actually does to those involved, innocent or not, whereas bruce has never dealt with the kind of cruel "justice" he believes works; basically, dick knows the system is broken and bruce believes the system still works on some level).

i also like this particular addition to dick's origin because it establishes a somewhat more realistic timeline between the graysons' murder and dick's fury over it. a lot of fandom likes to forget that dick was 100% okay and willing to kill tony zuco because, hell, he was nine (or seven or whatever age dc has changed it to) when he witnessed his parents' murder, was sent to a "youth center" (juvie) for no clarified reason, treated horribly and witnessed injustice first hand, became a victim of the system others would later try to tell him worked and had a purpose, and only after all that... bruce came by and said "hey, i'm going to help you." the juvie origin allows more build up that previous stories did not; it enhances dick's characterization much earlier on than just "sad boy meets rich man who beats up his parents' murderer"

with that all being said, i do like to mix and mesh a bunch of dick's origins together when taking creative liberties; there aren't too many distinct differences between them all, but there are some nuances to a few of them that, when put together, create a much more moving story than "orphan meets another orphan and they bond and punch criminals together"

Translator’s note: I remember listening to this track way back when I was relatively new to the community and laughing my ass off at how ridiculous it was. I didn’t know how crazy DL could get at times, so I couldn’t stop wondering if this was truly the same characters as the ones I encountered in the game. xD That being said, this track was also rather challenging to translate because there’s a lot of difficult/long lines in it from Reiji. I did take some artistic liberties here and there and shortened the lines so it would sounds like something a person would say in English. xD

Reiji: I cannot. After all, the Sakamaki’s household reputation is at stake here. Everyone’s cooperation is necessary.

Subaru: The fuck? ...Annoyin’.

Reiji: To be honest, I find it to be quite the bother as well. Having to accomplish something together with a bunch of undisciplined, thoughtless fools such as you lot...That being said, you could say this is the one thing I simply cannot pull off all by myself. 

Laito: It must be quite the challenge for you to say such a thing. This might actually be a chore...

Ayato: Oi, Reiji! Stop beatin’ ‘round the bush and tell us what this shit is ‘bout!

Reiji: Ahem. Actually...At the local shrine festival (1), we have to set up a stall. 

Subaru: Haah!? Why do we have to participate in this stupid festival!?

Reiji: Take a look at that notice over there.

Ayato: Hm...? This thing? ...So what is this? A notice?

Reiji: It’s a collection of all news distributed amongst every member of the neighborhood association.

Shuu: The neighborhood association? I don’t remember ever attending that?

Reiji: I was not particularly fond of it as well, but it simply could not be helped. I was advised that as long as we wish to remain living here, it would be beneficial to be a part of it. Father keeps on telling us ‘When in Rome, do as the Romans do’ as well.

Laito: Nfu~ You should just ignore that sort of stuff. You really are so serious, Reiji. ...So, what’s written in there, Ayato-kun?

Ayato: Let’s see...’At our last meeting, it has been decided that the annual celebration for the divine shall be held at Kaminashi City shrine. Just like previous years, we would like to request of all group leaders to provide entertainment and create a festive mood by setting up a stall on the festival grounds.’ ...It says.

Kanato: So what is this about, in short?

Reiji: To summarize, within this area, the household of the group leader has to open a stall on the fair. 

Subaru: I don’t really get this shit but...Basically we’re the ‘group leader’ this year...?

Reiji: Exactly. The group leader rotates each year.

Shuu: Bullshit...Neighborhood association, my ass. Having a bunch of Vampires put up a stall at a shrine festival makes no sense, don’t you think? 

Reiji: Then you do not need to participate. In return, you will not get your share of the earnings. My apologies.

Shuu: ...Did you just say money?

Reiji: Yes, exactly.

*Rustle*

Reiji: That being said, I assume it will just be some spare change. ...How about you lot? You do not have to force yourself to participaーー 

Ayato: I’ll do it! Of course I’m in! ...I’m kind of runnin’ low on money this month ‘cause I spent it all on takoyaki.

Laito: Nfu~ I’ll join too. Messing around with girls costs money after all.

Kanato: I will too. I want to buy more sweets. Right, Teddy...?

Subaru: Che...Bullshit. Look at you all changin’ your mind as soon as money’s involved.

Reiji: Ah...Let me say this just in case, but you are required to participate, Subaru.

Subaru: Aah!? Why!?

Reiji: We will have to invest in some restorations after you broke the roof during one of your rage fits the other day. The costs are substracted from our household budget, so you have to pay them back in some way.

Subaru: Fuck off!!

Reiji: Say what you want. ...Well then, Shuu. In the end, that means you will be the only one not participating, but you are okay with that, right?

Shuu: ...Haah. It’s a drag but I’ll do it. There’s this CD I want scheduled for release soon.

Reiji: Oh dear. Speak of a miracle. Well, I do not mind.

Ayato: Anyway, what kind of stall are we settin’ up? Ah?

Reiji: That has yet to be decided. Generally, the most common types focus either on entertainment or consumption. Amongst the former category, there’s goldfish scooping, selling masks, shooting games or ring tossing. 

Kanato: Haah? What are those? What’s so fun about scooping up a goldfish?

Laito: Hmm~ I wonder if it’s part of some sort of kink? Speaking of which, I heard there’s this thing where you put your feet into a bath with tiny fish. (2) It might actually feel kind of nice to feel them lightly nibble at your toes~ Nfu~

Shuu: Those aren’t goldfish though, right?

Laito: Eh? Really? But why not give it a try?

Reiji: I shall not allow for us to offer such shameless services!

Laito: Eeeeh~? Then what else is there to choose from?

Reiji: If we scratch the entertainment category for now, that leaves food and drink stalls. Grilled squid, okonomiyaki or takoyaki...Candied apples or cotton candy...

Ayato: Heeh...Guess it’s gonna be takoyaki then.

Subaru: Haah!? Takoyaki again!?

Ayato: This will be our first time settin’ up an actual restaurant though? Oi Reiji, you don’t mind if we go for that, right?

Reiji: Well, not really. We can keep the costs low that way as well.

Ayato: Hooray! It’s settled then! ...I’ll whip up some amazin’ takoyaki like nobody has ever tasted before!

Reiji: You will make them...? That simply won’t do.

Ayato: Haah!? Don’t be complainin’ after you said we could do anythin’ we want!

Reiji: This is a whole different matter. Anyway, I will be in charge of making the takoyaki, while you lot while simple wrap them up and sell them.

Reiji: That’s wild grass from the Demon World. I shall soak this in the water from the Demon World’s lake to make a stock. (3)

Laito: Nfu~...Knowing you, I’m sure the end result will be delicious but...This color is worrisome. 

Reiji: Fufufu...Well, leave it up to me, please.

*Thud*

*Pshhhh*

Kanato: Hm? You’ll soak it in the water? Then, I’ll share this with you.

Reiji: Hold up! Kanato...! What are you trying to put in there!?

Kanato: These are candies I bought at the sweets store in the Demon World. I guess I have no other choice but to share my Demon World’s exclusive jelly which I’ve kept in the fridge as well.

Reiji: No thank you! I do not need any help, so please do not touch anything without permission. You will ruin my measurements!

Laito: Oh come on~ Aren’t sweets usually used as a secret ingredients? (4)

Reiji: You’re talking about curry, aren’t you? We’re making takoyaki right now!

Laito: However, they’re both from the same place so don’t you think it would mash well? You’re having Subaru-kun fetch ingredients from the Demon World as we speak, no?

Kanato: Speaking of which...He sure is taking his sweet time, huh?

*Thud*

Subaru enters the kitchen.

Subaru: Haah, haah, haah...Oi, Reiji! I got what you wanted so hurry up and cook this bad boy!

*Split splat*

*Roaaaaar*

Reiji: Well, well, that’s quite the lively octopus if I’ve ever seen one.

Ayato: ...A-An octopus!? Keep that thing away from me!!

Laito: Nfufu~ Right, even though you love takoyaki, you hate octopi, don’t you?

Ayato: They’re fine to eat, but hella disgustin’ to look at! Fuck! ...Oi, Reiji! Can you really make the ultimate takoyaki with this shit?

Reiji: Good grief...The worse the ingredient looks, the better the flavor it brings forth. I will for sure complete a masterpiece with this. Behold...! Well then, I shall start cooking. First up...Mix the dashi stock with flour and eggs...

Ayato: Oi, hold up! I don’t see the sauce or mayonnaise anywhere!? They’re staples (5) alongside the dried bonito flakes!

Reiji: ...Hah! Ayato. Did you really think I would use off-shelf brands?

Ayato: Haah? Of course! Otherwise I won’t acknowledge this shit as real takoyaki!

Reiji: Haah!? I will obviously make my own, homemade sauce and mayonnaise. Do not add unnecessary ingredients into the mix.

Subaru: Che...This sucks. Whatcha fussin’ ‘bout for some stupid takoyaki? 

Reiji: Good grief...You’re all getting in the way, so please leave for a bit! I will lose my temper.

Subaru: I was goin’ to anyway!

*THUD*

Subaru walks away.

Laito: Give it your best shot, okay~? For the sake of our pocket money~

Kanato: I shall not forgive you if it turns out disgusting! ...Let’s go, Teddy.

Ayato: Don’t make me wait too long!

Kanato: Haah...This is taking forever. Just what on earth is Reiji doing...!?

Subaru: Just how long does he need to make some stupid lil’ takoyaki!?

Subaru: Exactly the way I said it.

Laito: Oh come on, you two. Calm down. ...That being said, Shuu sure is a deep sleeper.

Shuu: Zzー...

Laito: He doesn’t even bat an eye amidst this ruckus.

Ayato: Hehe...That’s perfect. Let’s push some pipin’ hot takoyaki inside the guy’s mouth while he’s snoozin’! 

Kanato: Fufu~ That sounds like a wonderful idea. I wonder if we’ll get him to scream? Ahaha~ 

*Thud*

Reiji: Everyone! My apologies for the wait! Well then, take a look. This is our family’s exclusive, ultimate Demon World style takoyaki...!

*Rustle rustle*

Ayato: Woah! Amazin’...!

Subaru: I-It’s huge...The fuck’s this?

Laito: I-Is this actually takoyaki?

Reiji: Fufufu...Why of course~ Did I not tell you? That I would present to you the takoyaki amongst takoyakis!

Ayato: Rad! This is the first time I’ve seen a takoyaki which is nearly as tall as I am!

Kanato: ...Does it really need to be this big?

Reiji: It must have a strong impact capable of catching the people’s eye, so of course it does.

Laito: Well...It is impressive how you managed to make it perfectly round considering its size.

Reiji: Right? This perfect spherical form which exceeds all calculations!

Ayato: Anyway, how do you eat this!? Lemme have a taste!

Shuu: Nn...Shut up...Can’t you pipe down for a second...?

Reiji: Shuu...Were you asleep over there again? You are in the way of our taste test, so move.

Shuu: ...Oh? Oi. What is this?

Kanato: Takoyaki.

Reiji: Do you have a problem with that?

Shuu: It could just be my imagination...But I feel like I can hear faint cries coming from the inside.

Ayato: Haah!? Haven’t your ears rotten from sleepin’ too much?

Shuu: I’m more concerned about your ears if you can’t hear anything. Listen closely.

*Roaaaaar*

Reiji: Oh dear? It still has energy left? Its vigor is beyond my expectations.

Subaru: Don’t tell me...is that demonpus still alive!?

Shuu: Demonpus...?

Subaru: It’s an octopus from the Demon World, so ‘demonpus’ for short! (6) It has eighteen legs, so capturin’ it alive was a real pain in the ass!

Shuu: Haah...? And why exactly did you need to capture it alive?

Reiji: Liveliness is key when handling seafood. Eating raw fish while it still moves is a thing. (7)

Kanato: But don’t you think this one is a little too lively?

Reiji: Hm...That’s odd. I did coat it in the batter directly without cutting it up first though.

Ayato: What!? You didn’t chop it up!? 

Reiji: No, I did not. The demonpus loses flavor when you cut it into pieces. How strange. It should turn out perfectly as long as you cook it. 

*Roaaaaar*

Laito: Nfu...Somehow it sounds like it is cursing us straight from hell...

*SPLAT*

*Roaaaaar*

Subaru: ...Oi! One of its legs is stickin’ out!

Reiji: Fufu, it is bursting with energy! Just as I thought, ingredients from the Demon World are a perfect fit for my cooking!

Ayato: Haah!? Stop bein’ ridiculous and do somethin’ ‘bout this! How do you even eat this shit!?

Laito: For starters, we could use a knife and foーー Wait, that wouldn’t work. Maybe we can cut it in half with a kitchen knife?

Kanato: Exactly. Just stabbing the knife right in there like you would with the toothpick (8) should do the trick. Ayato, hurry up please.

Ayato: Haah!? Why do I have to do that!?

Shuu: You’re the takoyaki expert, right?

Reiji: Come on, hurry up and give it a taste!

Ayato: Fuck...Here I go then. ...Take that!

Laito: Oh? Seems like it’s a Familiar. From the Demon World on top of that.

Shuu: There’s only one person it could be from then. ...Haah...I have a bad feeling about this...

Laito: Eeeh~? What’s with that reaction, Shuu? It’s giving me bad vibes!

Laito: Ahem. ‘I am impressed to hear that all of you have been putting in a genuine effort to participate in the activities of the neighborhood association. Next time you visit the Demon World, I shall definitely have a taste of this human world takoyaki as well. From your Father.

P.S. Even Demons must adjust to their living environments and contribute to its local festivities. If you were to cause some sort of trouble, you know what will happen, no?’

Subaru: Haah...!? Why does that bastard know ‘bout the festival!? 

Reiji: Is that not obvious? Father is omniscient after all. That being said...The P.S. is more concerning than the main message.

Ayato: Why is the Old Man interested in takoyaki?

Laito: Uhm...The takoyaki might pique his interest too...To put it short, he’s trying to warn us that if we use a Demon World octopus for a human festival, we’ll all be in big trouble, don’t you think?

Shuu: There you have it. I’d rather not be send to the North Pole or outer space again...

Kanato: I-I definitely don’t want that either...!

Reiji: Either way, this changes our plans. We should give up on the idea of creating the ultimate dish and stick to the human world’s gold standard by bundling our forces to create the most run-down-the-mill takoyaki!

Ayato: Well, I’m fine with anythin’ as long as I can chow down on some delicious takoyaki.

Kanato: For one, things went south because none of you took this seriously! I take no blame! Do something about this right now!

Reiji: That being said...Subaru! Go to the beach at once and catch us an octopus! A normal one with just eight legs!

Subaru: Hah!? Why me again!? FUCK OFF!

Translation notes

(1) 縁日 or ‘ennichi’ is a traditional Japanese holiday which is held at shrines. It does not really have a 100% English equilavent since it doesn’t exist here in Western countries.

(2) Laito is referring to a beauty treatment technique in which they use a bath of tiny fish to remove the death skin from your feet. 

(3) 出汁 or ‘dashi’ is a core ingredients in almost all Japanese dishes. It has a rich, savory/salty flavor and is usually made from fish and/or seaweed.

(4) 隠し味 or ‘kakushi-aji’ literally means ‘hidden flavor’ and refers to adding an onorthodox ingredient to a dish to draw out an extra flavor. For example, a bit of chocolate may be added to a spicy/savory curry to bring out a rich/mellow flavor.

(5) I changed this sentence up a little because the original is a pun towards two very popular brands of Japanese takoyaki sauce and mayonnaise. Ayato is asking for ‘fukufuku sauce’ and ‘cutie (kyuuti) mayonnaise’, which would be the DL equivalent of ‘otafuku sauce’ and ‘kewpie (kyuupi) mayonnaise’. Since I figured this wouldn’t really make sense to most non-Japanese fans, I translated it as ‘staples’, since these are most definitely the top brands for these two condients in Japan. The last ingredient mentioned are かつおぶし or ‘katsuobushi’, dried salmon flakes put on top at the very end along with some seaweed. 

(6) This made me giggle a little because you wouldn’t expect Subaru to come up with an abbreviation like this. In Japanese, they call it まだこ or ‘madako’ which comes from ‘makai’ or ‘demon world’ and ‘tako’ or octopus. It is common in Japanese for the t-sound to become a d-sound when attached to another word. 

(7) 踊り食い or ‘odorigui’ literally means ‘eating while it dances’, which refers to dishes most commonly found in Japan and South-Korea which features raw seafood still moving its legs/tentacles. The animal is not actually still alive, but its muscles are still contracting, which causes the movement.

(8) Normal takoyaki is generally eaten with a little toothpick which you use to stab the little balls from up top and transfer them to your mouth.

About this manga: I am inspired by author LittleWhiteTie's fanfic entitled "Keep". I like the story so much that I wanted to see it visually but no one's gonna do that unless they felt like it, obviously xD

But somehow, I did it OAO I guess I really wanted to see Kaeya's expressions... ahem. It's not great but at least I tried xD

The author gave me the permission to draw the story! But I forgot to mention it would be a manga (facepalm). ahem, I'll clarify that now.

Now, take heed, I took some creative liberties to the story as there are scenes not detailed in the fanfic because that's the difference between written and visual storytelling... hence why Barbara's in this. I hope it's ok.

I plan to post one page per day until I finish the story. I still am an artist who lost one's spark. I'm even surprised I managed to make this at all. Thank you for your patience and enjoy :)

Oh right, for this ask game! I had nearly forgotten about it XD

35. Ramble about any fic-related thing you want! 

If there was one fic-related thing I’d want to ramble about it’d be specifically being a comic artist, and the different things I experienced going from the Pokemon fandom to the RotTMNT fandom as a comic artist.

I spent 5 years creating a Pokemon comic called “Liberty”, based on a nuzlocke playthrough of Pokemon Soul Silver (basically pokemon on hard-mode with permadeath involved for those of you who don’t know what a nuzlocke is). Meanwhile, it’s been just over a year since my first foray into creating comics for the Rise fandom.

The Similarities

The Disparity between Fanart and Fanfiction

Being a comic artist is odd sometimes because I basically do both fanart and fanficiton at the same time. I can understand and vibe with what a lot of both fanartists and fanfiction writers go through and deal with. This is why I feel like I can answer a lot of these fanfiction questions despite a good chunk of my story-telling being visual.

I am also aware of the disparity between fanart often getting a lot more eyes and attention than fanfiction. Deciding to write a piece of fanfiction instead of draw it out in comic format is often a calculated choice on my part, because writing prose takes more energy from me and often gets less rewards via views and interaction from readers. But despite it taking more energy, it takes less overall time for me to write something out than draw the same story, so I often factor that in when deciding which medium to create a story in.

I feel bad that a lot of fanfiction writers don’t get the attention that they deserve because of this disparity, so may I remind readers to please please PLEASE support your fanfiction creators and interact with their work! It seriously means a lot to them! Even a little message or a reblog will do! The main similarity between these two fandoms is this disparity, and I think it’d be awesome if we could get the number of interactions between fanart/fancomics and fanfiction to be more equal.

The Differences

I’m more popular as a Rise artist?

So, as I said, I spent 5 years making a Pokemon comic and 1 year creating a bunch of Rise comics. And yet I think I got more (or at least the same number of) viewers on my Rise comics in that one year than on my Pokemon comics in 5 years. I certainly got a similar number of followers, despite the differences in time. One of the main reasons for this is likely due to the social media platforms I posted on. I posted “Liberty” on deviantart and on the Pokemon Nuzlocke forums, the latter being particularly niche. As for my Rise comics and artwork, I branched out to other sites including here on Tumblr, Instagram, AO3, and Twitter (though insta got fewer comics due to the image size restrictions). The number and popularity of the sites I posted Rise artwork to are more than deviantart and that is likely a big reason. The other reasons for my increase in popularity may be for some of the other differences...

There aren’t that many comic artists in the TMNT fandom

I could probably name only a handful of consistent comic creators in, not only the Rise fandom, but in the TMNT fandom. And I mean the long-running, over-arching story type of comic creators. There aren’t that many of us. There are tons of artists and fanfic writers out there, yes, but very few that combine the two.

Meanwhile the Pokemon community has TONS. Especially the nuzlocke community. Heck, the Pokemon nuzlocke community started and was named because of a popular comic detailing the events of the creator’s nuzlocke challenge playthrough of Pokemon Emerald. You get a little bit more lost in the crowd amongst so many other comic artists in the Pokemon community, but at the same time have more people to learn from and relate to in that way.

My involvement with the Fandoms has been different

There’s been a lot of collaboration and working together among creators within each respective fandom. I feel like personally, a lot of my collabs with Rise creators has been a lot more direct and more personal than the kind of things I did in the Pokemon fandom.

For example, in the Pokemon comic fandom, it was really common to cameo each others’ characters in your comic, or include each others’ comics or characters in memes. This wasn’t always a planned thing, though we would ask each other for permission. I joined a Pokemon comic discord, but most of my interactions there and on other platforms involved brainstorming help. Not only that, but sometimes the community was a bit more competitive as well. For instance the Nuzlocke Forums would hold an “extravaganza” every year where folks voted on various categories to vote for the best nuzlocke (I won “Best Pokemon” and “Most improved” in 2018 :3 ).

Meanwhile with the Rise fandom, I did more things like art trades, collaborative art pieces, and zine work. These were a lot more direct and planned out and involved a bit more trust and interaction with other artists. I also became close friends with the folks in the discords that I joined as part of a Rise server, beyond just “fellow creator”.

As a result, I found myself doing a lot more serious artwork and even created other fics for the Rise fandom beyond just my comics, while when it came to Pokemon I stuck mainly to my “Liberty” art/comics.

More eyes, less interaction and visa versa

Again, this could be mainly a differences in what social media I’m using, but a big difference I found between readers of my work is that I got A LOT more people commenting on my Pokemon comic than on my Rise comics. I may be getting more views on my TMNT comics, but boy did I get more interaction with my Pokemon comics. I would get at least 5 people leaving these in-depth analysis or guesses of what would happen on each page for my Pokemon comic, not to mention the dozens of other reactions I would get in the comments. And despite that comic being on hiatus for a year, I still get some comments on it!

So, unless I know the commenter personally, I feel a little less involved with my readership with my Rise comics than my Pokemon one. Which is a little sad. I do appreciate you all who appreciate my work, but I feel like I appreciate you from afar and can only go “awww” at the things y’all leave in the notes or on the anonymous asks I get, instead of being able to thank you more directly.

Rise readers are a bit less patient

I get lots more people asking me “when the next page is coming” on my Rise comics and fics much more often than on my Pokemon comic. This virtually never happened with my Pokemon comic. Granted, I was way more consistent with “Liberty” and it had a set schedule, whereas my Rise comics/fanfics never have. But still.

I really DO NOT like those kinds of asks/comments. Please do not ask me when the next one is coming out. It makes me feel stressed and ashamed and pressured, which can create negative feelings around my work and make me less likely to finish them. I get that you’re excited, and that’s cool. But literally no one likes those kinds of comments.

For perspective, “Liberty”, my Pokemon comic, has been on hiatus for nearly a year and I’ve gotten maybe two comments to that effect, and they were newer readers who weren’t around at the time that I announced my hiatus and the reasons thereof. My “Liberty” readers have been so patient with me (bless them), and I feel a real loyalty to that kind of readership. I don’t know when, yet, but I really want to get back to “Liberty” someday, not just for myself or that story that I lovingly crafted, but also for them.

Pokemon was a hobby, Rise is a passion

Likely due to the fact that I have made a lot of close friends within the Rise community, and the fact that it has helped me immensely through this really tough year, I feel so much closer with the Rise creator community. Pokemon was a thing that I did for fun as a side hobby. My TMNT related comics and art have pushed me so much further in my art, gotten me involved in various projects, gotten me into creating animations, holy heck was I sucked into this fandom in such a short amount of time, and I love it so much.

I have been a fan of Pokemon since I was a kid, and I never thought I’d find a piece of media that would capture my attention and adoration as much. I think at a point when I was shifting from the Pokemon to the Rise fandom I said something along the lines of “I feel like I’m cheating on Pokemon with Rise”/j but it’s kinda true, haha!

In the end, both fandoms and the people in them mean a lot to me, and I’ve grown a lot from them as an artist and a person. I will be forever grateful to the other creators, readers, artists, writers, friends, collaborators, etc in both.

So me being me, I just had to sort a3 people into the countries. I have a basic description of each country below but tbh it’s very inadequate if you wanna understand so, like, join me in the mhyk brainrot. I wholeheartedly welcome you xD

So. If anyone has any other opinions, feel free to tell me because I love to talk (obvi hahaha)

Disclaimer: My opinion and all that jazz *jazz hands*. I took liberties for their ages because I could (bc they’re fictional characters :^]). The stories aren’t exactly complete but I’m not really building a full AU so it’s pine. And finally, we don’t really understand wizard genetics since wizards can be born from non-wizards and I’m guessing the other way around happens too? (we only have the flores brothers to go from after all)

Gonna start with the west the counter-clockwise to central

Western Kingdom: The eccentric wizards in love with art and have a unique interest in people

Yuki: Yuki is a west-born wizard and is a tailor. While not particularly interested in people themselves, he's interested in the different cultures and how it relates to clothes-making. He likes people telling him stories and doesn't care if they're made-up as long as he can draw inspiration from them (~early 20s).

Kazunari: Kazu is a south-born wizard who came to the west in his youth. He's an artist by trade and loves to interact with people of all kinds. He draws on the streets and leaves a little magic in his paintings (but not the one he gives to humans as western humans are wary). Back in the south though, they welcome his magical paintings (~60-70s).

Azami: Azami is from a strong family of wizards from the north. His father is the leader of a small but mighty bandit gang, comparable in strength to the legendary bandit leader Bradley. He escaped from the north to pursue his passion in make-up and uses his magic to create make-up with different attributes, as well as those that have different healing effects on the skin (~early 20s).

Misumi: Misumi is from a very isolated eastern family that actually originated from the west. He went back to where his late grandfather came from in hopes to find some peace with his memory. He loves interacting with others and his playful and energetic self is a hit in noble parties. His grandfather used to be a noble as well, but though their riches have stayed, they are not acknowledged by the Eastern Kingdom (~60-70s).

Taichi: A central-born wizard who had dreams of making a name for himself. Since he didn't stand out much despite all his hard work, he decided to start anew in the Western Kingdom and did a make-over with his hair and clothing style (~late 20s).

Homare: A western noble that despite being a wizard, is much loved and well-regarded for his poems. He uses his magic to add theatrics to his poem-readings (~500-600).

North Country: Wizards here are often powerful, isolated, and power-hungry.

Banri: A young wizard who had been powerful since birth. He was born into a long line of village leaders and he has several villages nearby submit to him for protection. Losing to a non-northern wizard, originally a /southerner/ at that really gave his ego a bit hit. (~late 30s)

Hisoka: An orphan wizard that lost his family in his teens (north natural disaster). He was taken in by August, a wizard mercenary for hire, and lived with him and Chikage. He disappears after an attack and is framed for killing his mentor, August. He lost his memories and wandered around the eastern Kingdom until he was found by Azuma. He retrieves his memories soon after being reunited with Chikage (~400-500).

Chikage: An orphan wizard who was taken in by a young August. He lived with August and Hisoka until August was killed and Hisoka disappeared (~400-500 but older than Hisoka).

Eastern Kingdom: Mostly isolated people who warm up once you gain their trust

Azuma: His human family died in a tragic accident when he was young. He moved to the east and keeps his wizard identity a secret. He gives company to the lonely people in the east (~1500).

Masumi: An eastern noble. He grew up under his human grandmother. His parents don't quite understand magic. He’s quite gifted and is pretty well-verse with the forest near his home (~late 20s).

Itaru: A toy maker who does a lot of custom work that is almost realistic. He’s also quite good at disguising himself. He’s often thought to be a western wizard at first but he’s a big introvert and would rather be left to his devices to work on his toys and machines (~100-200).

Juza: A south-born wizard known to be really physically strong. He had left the south because of bad rumours and had wandered around until he settled in the east. When he encounters fallen wizards, he takes their mana stones but buries the rest of their remains. He usually works as a mercenary for hire (~late 30s).

Kumon: A south-born wizard who takes a lot of pride in his brother and followed him to the east once his brother made base. He has a lot of personal conflict with his magic and using it properly (~mid-20s).

Southern Country: Kind-hearted wizards who are often weaker magically

Omi: A north-born wizard who was quite notorious in his youth. After his partner-in-crime died during a raid by other wizards, he moved down to the south and became a school teacher (~80-90s).

Muku: Born with weaker magical power and no teacher to learn from, Muku mostly focused on becoming dependable physically (~early 20s).

Tsuzuru: A young writer who once wished to sell his works, especially to the central and western kingdoms, but didn’t want to leave his large family. Now that all of his siblings are adults and his parents are in retirement, he’s had thoughts of leaving and making his stories come to life (~50s).

Tsumugi: A dancer who once upon a time was going to go to Central Kingdom to make it big but backed out last minute and stayed in his village. He is very talented though and uses magic to enhance the experience of his performances. He also often uses plants as a moving visual (~100-200).

Central Kingdom: Filled with natural-born leaders and those who have strong senses of justice

Sakuya: Orphaned at an early age, he grew up doing odd jobs just to survive. His dream is to become a knight for the kingdom, much like Cain Knightley (albeit he was thrown out of the knights) (~early 30s).

Citron: A noble and the tentative heir of the Zahra household. His father is an acclaimed wizard but out of all his children, Citron has been the only wizard. It wasn’t until recently that his younger half-brother Tangerine had been born a wizard as well that he decided that he wishes to leave the family (~200+).

Sakyo: A north-born wizard who had dreamed for the longest time to stay in central and rid himself of the pressure of north for years. He had been involved in Azami’s family in order to survive since he had originally been very weak. Azami’s dad is a wizard he respects deeply who had fathered many but Azami had been the first wizard and Sakyo had taken care of him since birth. When Sakyo was given permission to leave the family, he had taken it, but not without Azami’s resentment (~1000).

Tenma: The son of a merchant that made it big. He’s a performer in all aspects from singing to acting to dancing and is regarded as a superstar by the locals. His magic is used to enhance his theatrics (~late 20s).

Guy: While his parents were originally from the central kingdom, he was taken at a young age and grew up being trained in the North. He worked as a mercenary afterwards, traveling the world before he meets Citron’s family and is then assigned to become his aide (~1500).

Tasuku: A south-born dancer who has gained the attention of many people. He was originally going to come to the Central Kingdom with his Tsumugi, but he had backed out and Tasuku still resents him for running away (~100-200).

Some headcanons for the ten years later drawings (this would have been the section under the read-more, if it worked :/ ):

I always headcanoned the characters in the ‘71 version to be thirteen, minus Mike, who I saw as eleven. So basically everyone in the drawing is twenty-three except for Mike, who is twenty-one.

Violet: For years after the nightmare that was the factory tour, Violet struggled with major body image issues, especially about her blue skin. (And is homeschooled because of this.) However, eventually, her mindset basically became ‘Wonka thought this was a punishment? Fuck that; I’m going to embrace it’, so she became more confident.

Once this confidence hits during her late teens, she uses her unusual appearance to her advantage (especially when it comes to attracting visitors/potential buyers to her dad’s car dealership).

She doesn’t go to college; instead, she works at her dad’s place, and basically learns how to be a mechanic.

She hasn’t chewed gum since the factory tour.

When Charlie contacts her and the others, she is hesitant to respond back, but ultimately does (to sass him, at the very least). During the group’s future meetups, she’s basically the glue that keeps them together.

Veruca: Unlike Violet, Veruca carries a lot of guilt about what happened during the factory tour, since her father was punished along with her. He fell wrong, and as a result, was paralyzed from the waist down, and is now in a wheelchair. Veruca was lucky; aside from a broken ankle, she did not suffer any worse injuries.

Because of this, Veruca becomes mute (her mouthing off and constantly asking for things is what led to her–pun not intended–downfall, so she decides that it would be for the best if she stops talking altogether.)

Despite the Salts being wealthy, Wonka paid all of their medical bills. Even though it would have made sense for them to take him to trial, they decided not to (Henry did not want anyone to see him in his new state, and Veruca’s anxiety spiked even thinking about the factory).

When Charlie contacts the four ‘rejects’ ten years after the tour, Violet starts to bring Veruca out of her shell. Though it is ultimately Augustus who helps her feel comfortable speaking again, due to his soft-spoken personality.)

Mike: Like the others, Mike was very traumatized by what happened to him during the tour. (Especially since he was younger than the rest of them.)

While Violet embraced her altered state, and Veruca withdrew from the world, Mike became bitter. Very bitter. Because, while sure, Wonka and co. were able to get him back to about normal size [after stretching him waaaay too tall and thin the first time; his mother fainted, then had plenty of choice words for everyone involved when she came to], the process was incredibly painful, and involved basically rubber-fying his bones and muscles temporarily (yeah, he still had no idea why Wonka would even create a candy that did that).

Because of that, he has scars all over his body–the most on his arms, legs, and torso–so he always wears long-sleeved shirts or jackets, and long pants.

He is pissed that his life was ruined at age eleven; sure, he was obnoxious, but he was a KID. Now he’s stuck with chronic pain, not to mention the occasional breakdown because he has no idea if he’s actually HIM, or just a copy that was beamed through Wonka’s television room that managed to keep his soul. (Yeah, he doesn’t like to dwell on that; he prefers to think that that would be impossible.) [A/N: That part comes from the fact that Wonka stated that the chocolate that appeared in the TV screen was a copy of the much larger chocolate bar that was beamed through the air, and not the original bar itself]

When Charlie contacts him, he almost sends a nasty letter back, but something in him pauses, and he ends up sending a civilized response. It wasn’t Charlie’s fault all this happened to him; Charlie was the nice one, and, though he would never admit it to anyone, on the tour, he thought Charlie was cool. Goody-two-shoes, but in the ‘Lovable TV Protagonist’ sort of way.

As the five of them start meeting/corresponding through letters, he lets Charlie past all the walls he put up, and is definitely the closest to him in the group.

Charlie: Happily becomes Wonka’s protege after the tour. He is ecstatic that he not only gets to live and learn to work in this magical place, but he and his family are finally out of poverty!

He goes to school during the day, then learns the tricks of the candy trade in the afternoons and evenings.

However, about ten years after winning the tour, Wonka just…vanishes. And that’s when Charlie finds the videos showcasing what happened to the other four Golden Ticket winners after their mishaps.

Charlie is appalled; looking back, they were all so young. Of course, they were bratty; that’s how kids ARE. (Sure, some of them were worse than others, but they didn’t deserve their fates! Essentially, the four ‘losers’, plus Mr. Salt, were toyed with and tortured, and their parents could not help them.) Mike’s was especially horrible, to him; it was the only tape he couldn’t finish.

This makes Charlie feel a little guilty; he got off easy, even though he also disobeyed the rules.

He is also torn; on the one hand, Wonka was a great mentor, and he was fond of the man–he made a good father-figure, for him. But on the other hand, this was a man who thought the way to get rid of a kid’s bad habits was to torture them.

Before he could think otherwise, Charlie writes letters to the other Golden Ticket winners. He doesn’t expect anything nice back, but is surprised to find that they are all willing to talk to him.

He is relieved; he wants to right the wrongs done to them.

Augustus: The poor guy falls into a deep depression after the tour. Sure, he was thinner, but he had no problem with how he looked before. Not to mention, even the smell of chocolate and other sugary sweets makes him very nauseous. Oh, and there’s the not-so-small fear of drowning that he picked up, as well as severe claustrophobia.

He felt like a part of him was lost, since he could no longer enjoy his favorite foods. Or food in general. He ate to not starve, but that was it.

He was already quiet, but after the tour, he withdrew into himself even more, preferring to spend time with the neighborhood cats rather than people. (Yes, he is definitely a cat person.)

But he still has his kind heart, so when Charlie Bucket sends him a letter, he responds right away (and is the first one to do so).

When they start writing more letters to each other, and eventually meeting, he helps the others through their trauma, while ignoring his own. He thinks he’ll always be stuck this way.

Veruca disagrees.

And in terms of schooling, only Augustus went to college. As for high school, Violet and Mike were homeschooled, Veruca went to an exclusive, posh academy, Charlie stuck with public school, and Augustus went to a private school.

Now, if anyone was interested, these are the outfits that inspired the ones I drew (though, obviously, I took artistic liberties with some of them). I wanted to give them each a different style: Violet’s is the outlandish fashion the 80s are famous for, Veruca’s is demure and preppy, Mike’s is pretty unassuming, but with a slight edge, Charlie’s is comfortable/casual, and Augustus’s is comfortable/slightly formal.

The end of the Vera Series

So... I didn’t exactly expect to finish the series this week, but... holy shit. It’s done.

It feels like being done with an ordeal, honestly. When I started out I thought ‘this will be so easy to write, it’s nothing but whump and torture, yay!!!’ Turns out it was the hardest thing I’ve written to date. I put down line after line for myself that I swore I wouldn’t cross, and yet I crossed them. I thought there was no way I could go to the depths of evil that I reached with Vera. In a way it’s been cathartic. I exorcised quite a few demons through her. In other ways, it just hurt.

I’m so glad I wrote out Vera’s captivity. Not only did I get to know her more as a person, I also had the opportunity to coordinate a reveal in two separate story lines. (The Ryan Reveal will remain one of the coolest events of my life, no one can change my mind.) I got the opportunity to figure out how to effectively retcon a character into a narrative that was very straightforward and had little room for artistic liberties. I got to know Joseph in a way I never wanted to. I’m so fucking glad Vera killed him that way.

I’ve never killed a non-villain in a story before, and for the sake of spoilers I’m not going to say whether I’m ever going to do it again. Killing Ryan (even though he was literally made to be killed) was so fucking hard and I actually considered figuring out a way to keep him alive. Cue @sableflynn‘s Road Trip AU, and Ryan and Vera live happily ever after as weird friends. It was a great challenge and I loved to hate every minute of it.

I will be publishing Vera. I need a break from it, and I won’t even start that process until after I’ve published Honor Bound 2. I decided it made more sense to publish the story with the mystery of what happened first, and then solve that mystery with the prequel. Vera will be offered more as a companion to the Honor Bound series than anything else. I’m hoping to have it out by winter of this year. 

I’m thinking about doing more stories of this nature. I think Vera’s is definitely the longest, but the next backstory I’d be interested in writing is Isaac’s, in three parts: his happy childhood until his father dies, his abusive life with his mother, and a look at his second family who maybe never loved him at all, and instead saw an orphan they could train to be their bodyguard. Might throw in some of the year he was alone, working on his own. I’m not sure if it’ll happen, but I’m thinking about it. Ellis is the other main option. That’s a bit more sticky due to the nature of their trauma, but I’ve hinted a few times at Ellis’s dark past and I might want to look at that a little more closely than in just the flashbacks that’ll come with HB3.

Speaking of Honor Bound 3...

I said a few days ago that I’ll be going out of town next week. I’m posting two chapters for Honor Bound 2 on Friday and Saturday before I have to take a week off. Next Saturday, I’ll be posting everyone’s predictions. Next Sunday is when the escape plan gets kicked off, and I’ll keep posting normally after that.

Just know that I’m not abandoning the story! Just taking some much-needed R&R in the mountains. 

Once Honor Bound 2 is done, I’ll be sending it to @kyliebean-editing (I cannot stop mentioning her or singing her praises, she is seriously amazing. Sorry, Kylie, for yet another mention XD). I’ll also be starting Honor Bound 3 at the same time. (I won’t be starting another story simultaneously this time. It was fun but something I don’t want to do again.) Editing Honor Bound 1 while writing Honor Bound 2 was honestly so helpful in crafting the story and guiding the narrative, as well as refamiliarizing myself with the material. I think it’ll do the same thing again. 

Thank you so much for staying with me through this story. I know it got rough at times, but I’m so grateful for those of you who came on this journey with Vera and experienced her captivity with her.

Ahh by that I meant like you know how kpop albums have concept pictures included? Thats how I view what the TTT magazines are just minus a physical disc cx sorry for the confusion!! Honestly this is all so new and interesting, seventeen never really done something like this. Yes we had mixtape songs but not in this way so promotion will be different. I saw wonwoo and mingyu are doing a song but that isn't related to spider so that means its like jun's and minghao's songs. Which makes things a bit confusing lol, not complaining since hey more content for us ^_^ but yeah guess we have yo see when the next solo actually is. Oh and seventeen coming back!! This is the kind of news I needed, I'm shocked they actually have their own usa site to buy stuff (sort of like nct has) because I know bts nor txt don't. Well bts USED to but that was before bighit decided to shut it down in favor for weverse which sadly I don't see the need for (plus call me old and weird but I don't trust buying stuff from apps? Like I feel a bit more comfy on a computer which Ik doesn't mean its not safer but meh, apps make me fishy lol) also Walmart is selling the albums, bless my family uses Walmart alot (like we used it last night xD) so maybe I can squeeze it in next time? Granted I want to wait for the concept photos first because while I do like a surprise, its also just nice knowing what the vibe is. Or be the complete opposite of what the mv will be about lol.

Ahh as much i was being hopeful and had her eat, sadly my bunny didn't make it =c she passed away on the weekend. She was a strong bunbun, she tried her best to make it out but alas she didn't win. I'm a bit happy my gut instinct told me to spend time with her because at least I got to be with her for her last hour. It kinda sucks because I feel slightly guilty because I couldn't get her the proper help so I feel like I let her down (especially after I found out from reviews the food I bought for her is actually not good for bunnies and can cause problems so I feel dumb) I shouldn't since I gave my bunny the best love I could give while caring for her so she wasn't in a bad place with me. Still can't shake that off, feels weird not waking up and seeing her around or like when I play games she isn't near me chilling. Healing takes time of course so I'm making myself busy with enjoying content from my favorite artists. I made a lil promise that I would finish a game that I played alot while she joined me (it sounds silly but I viewed it as like "our game" ya know?) For her in memory. Sorry for babbling about this bsksbsjd. Losing a pet isn't fun at all. I am so sorry about your cat *hugs you* im sure that furry buddy was well loved!! If I may ask of course, do you have a favorite memory of your cat? Like any funny moment or cute ones?

ahhh ok i get what you mean! it will definitely be interesting to see how it all plays out since SVT haven't done a project like this before. I'm really curious how spread out all the solos are going to be. esp with a cb coming up it seems unlikely we'll get a TTT solo any time soon? but then again SVT are always surprising us these days. but i wonder if they'll come out just whenever a member happens to prepare it or if it's all scheduled out at semi regular intervals 🤔

I'm sorry to hear about your bunny :( but it's good that you were able to spend time with her at the end, I'm sure it made her feel safe to have someone who cared for her by her side rather than being alone <3 try not to feel too guilty about it, since what's done is done and there's no way to know for sure if it was the sole reason for her failing health. it's good that you're able to recognize and work through your grief, and i think finishing that game is a great way to do that and to honor her memory :')

and thanks, we lost her a little while ago now so luckily thinking about her is more nostalgic than sad. but as for a funny story Riley was a gremlin. she got up on the counters and kitchen table a lot when we weren't looking. she also liked eating paper and we had to be careful where we left things bc once she ate my sister's homework. which, ok, she didn't eat the entire paper but she did eat a corner of it and sort of ripped and crinkled the rest. i can't remember if my sister turned it in like that or if she had to redo it djgkgj

Well, Rose Hathaway is NOT my OC, she belongs to Richelle Mead, but I will do this one at the best of my knowledge, bits of headcanon might have seeped in, it’s only my opinion after all, so bear with me. 05. Does your sim have any nicknames? Everyone calls her Rose since her full name is Rosemarie. As for special nicknames, Adrian called her Little Dhampir and Dimitri calls her Roza when he’s being affectionate.

06. Do they have a job? She just dropped out of school, so no. She’s going rogue while being financed by Adrian.

07. Where does your sim live? She lived most of her life at St. Vladimir’s Academy before she left. She’s currently on a personal mission in Russia and she’s constantly moving, so she lives nowhere right now.

08. Who does your sim live with? In St. Vlad’s she lived in the Dhampir dorms and had no roommate.

09. What environment did your sim grow up in? (strict, loving, cold etc.) She grew up with the other Dhampir and Moroi at St. Vladimir’s Academy, a boarding school for both species. She was treated like every other Dhampir, so I guess… itty bit strict for being a boarding school? Other than that, I guess it was an ok environment, she must have had some perks for being Lissa’s best friend, with Lissa being a Royal.

10. What is your sim’s favourite food? Pizza, brownies… Rose can eat about anything (except Borsht apparently XD) she loves sweets and junk food.

11. What is your sim’s favourite drink? Not really sure? I know she dabbled with alcohol in the past… but Russian Vodka (the one really produced in Russia) is like rocket fuel for her.

12. If they have one what is your sim’s favourite color? Red?

13. Does your sim believe in any clichés? (love at first sight, etc.) I don’t think so? She’s quite skeptic.

14. What is your sim’s sexuality? Heterosexual.

15. What is your sim’s gender identity? Female.

16. Is your sim type a or type b? Definitively Type A.

17. Is your sim introverted or extroverted? Very Extroverted.

18. What is your sim’s favourite woohoo position? Rose has done the Devil’s Tango only once (up until now) and there wasn’t much information about it. I guess Rose would fallow any instructions Dimitri gave off, being her first time, but I envision her liking to experiment in the future.

19. Is your sim a pet person? If so what is their favourite animal? Not a pet person. Apparently animals don’t take well to Dhampirs, Lissa had a cat once and he and Rose only seemed to tolerate each other.

20. Does your sim have a best friend? Vasilisa “Lissa” Dragomir, more than her best-friend, she’s her bond-mate.

21. What is/was your sim’s favourite school subject? Rose is not very… scholarly. Dhampirs have specific classes to learn to act like bodyguards - known as Guardians when they graduate, before that they are Novices - besides more mundane stuff like pre-calculus or Slavic-art. I’d gather she liked combat lessons the most (even better when they were with Dimitri).

22. Is/was your sim a high, mid or low achiever in school? I gather she was a middle achiever on non-combat stuff. On Dhampir related subjects like combat and such I’d say she was a high achiever, she learned fast when she wanted to.

23. Are they planning to go or have they already been to college? If so, what would be or what was their major?  I don’t really think it passed through her mind in the past. Dhampirs are raised, educated and trained to solely be Moroi Guardians. Their moto is “They [Moroi] come first” after all. But now that Lissa is finishing school and she wants to go to college. As her Guardian Rose would go with her, enrolling and having classes, but mostly because it’s part of the job to protect her, not because she personally wants to. 24. What are your sim’s political beliefs? Human politics don’t matter to her. Moroi politics, she’s starting to pay attention as she learns how Guardians are treated by Moroi, she sees things that need to change. But she isn’t all that political.

25. What is one thing your sim wants to do before they die? Right now, free Dimitri’s soul from being a Strigoi. But other than that and be Lissa’s Guardian, I don’t think she has a bucket list (or I can’t really remember right now).

26. Does your sim have a favourite TV show (cable) and/or movie? I don’t think St. Vlad’s allowed TVs and right now even if she had time to watch some TV, it’s all in Russian and she barely understands it lol

27. Is your sim a Netflix viewer? Netflix didn’t exist at the time the books are set in, and for the reasons explained previously, I’d say no.

28. Does your sim like books? Nooooope!

29. Does your sim enjoy video games, if so what is their favourite one and do they play on PC or console? Goes the same as TV. Not allowed in school, no time for it currently.

30. What is your sim’s personal style? Rose likes to be comfortable, but if she can go for sexy, she will do it. She knows she’s pretty and that her body attracts attentions, so she will flaunt it given the opportunity.

31. Does your sim have a lucky charm? A Nazar necklace that her mother gave her for Christmas, which was given to her mother by her – for now – unknown father. Lissa gave her a family heirloom Chotki bracelet meant for the guardians that served the Dragomir family, but Rose gave it back when she left.

32. Is your sim religious? Not at all. 

33. What kind of music does your sim listen to and who is their favourite artist? There isn’t much information about what she likes, but there is about what she doesn’t like: 80’s music with a focus on 80’s European music. She always complain when Dimitri is listening to that type of music, which is his favorite.

34. Is your sim a festive person? If so what’s their favourite holiday? Don’t think so…

35. What is your sim’s favourite type of weather? Sunny warm weather, since she rarely gets to experience it. Although Moroi don’t die with sun exposure, it’s uncomfortable for them (because vampires after all). So they work on a nocturnal schedule and thus so do the Dhampirs.

36. Does your sim prefer to start fights or finish them? Both!

37. Does your sim have a dream job? To be Lissa’s Guardian, she won’t take anything else.

38. Does your sim have any siblings? She’s an only child.

39. Does your sim get along with their family? For a long time she resented her mother a lot for not raising her and choosing to be a Guardian full time, meaning she left Rose at the care of St. Vlad’s since an early age. It’s complicated, female Dhampirs that choose to stop being Guadians and choosing to raise a family and looked down upon and a few have the ugly nomenclature “Blood Whores” attached to them for choosing family. She has been coming to terms with her mother and coming to admire her and having a friendlier relation. She doesn’t know who her father is.

40. What is your sim’s favourite hobby? Fighting? She doesn’t have the time to go partying anymore.

41. What does your sim look for in a romantic partner? Someone that respects her and treats her as an equal, mutual understanding.

42. What is a secret about your sim? She and Lissa are Bonded. During a car crash that killed Lissa’s family, Lissa brought Rose from the brink of death using her Spirit element and it created a bond between the two, making Rose Shadow-Kissed. Rose can see through Lissa’s eyes and feel what she feels at any given time, although Lissa doesn’t have these perks. This is not much of a secret anymore, ever since it became known that Lissa is a Spirit user. 8. How did you get involved in your latest fandom?

My latest fandom is of course this one, but I don’t think I’d consider myself categorizing myself as being part of the TCC fandom as a standalone because there’s aspects of every segment in the Wizarding saga (Fantastic Beasts, Mauraders, Original Series, and now TCC and next gen) that I like.

OKAY so I got involved in the Wizarding fandom almost a year ago back in November (I remember it was right after Thanksgiving) when I decided to stop by my local bookstore (which my dumbass CONSTANTLY forgets is just a block away from me) and buy the entire seven book box set of the original series, the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them textbook (the big red one), and the Cursed Child screenplay. It was the first time I’d read the play, because when it first came out I was pretty impressionable so I believed what everyone said about it being trash. Long story short I read it in an hour, it wasn’t trash, and I decided to restart my Tumblr account to start hyper-obsessing over Scorbus and the next gen babes.

I’d read the original series YEARS ago, so long ago I forgot almost everything about what I read (which is hilarious in some sense but also super cool cuz when I reread the books it was like reading them for the first time again which was kind of a beautiful experience). I’d never been really interested in Harry Potter though (he kinda pissed me off when I first read the books). Though I’d always been obsessed with my Hogwarts house, as most folks are. It was Albus and the Cursed Child that really helped me appreciate the story. Now I’m utterly obsessed and I own way too much Hufflepuff merch oof.

20. Any ships which you surprised yourself by liking?

Lily and Lysander (Lilyander). First of all, it’s a het ship, and those aren’t usually my style because gay ships (W/W and M/M both) just make me feel more. It’s mostly because both Lily Luna and Lysander don’t really have much confirmed in regards to their canon personalities, stories, etc., so I took full creative and artistic liberty and built their relationship from the ground up based on how I perceived them and they just turned out to be so fucking Good™. Probably one of the very few het ships I would sacrifice my soul to. Of course if you ship either of them with someone else, be my guest, but Lilyander is the only ship for me in regards to those two next gen babes. One of these days I really wanna write another fic for them cuz Creation Out of Nothing was honestly so fun to write, and I think it’s a good idea to explore more genres and expand my comfort zone, even if it means writing het ships XD I really like writing from Lysander’s POV too because my take on him being an absolute disaster Ravenclaw is so good.

28. If someone were to draw a piece of fanart for your story, which story would it be and what would the picture be of?

I didn’t even have to think hard for this, it would be the kissing scene on the bridge at the end of Damages because writing that scene gave me some Emotions™.

30. What inspires you to write?

Spite. Not even kidding. Spite fuels a lot of my writing. Probably because I’m a Taurus, yeet. 

BUT also music, reading other people’s writing, movies, friends and ESPECIALLY my readers who seem legitimately interested in seeing more from me. That especially touches me so much, you have no idea, because a lot of the time I look at my writing and just:
