Thank you for the ask!! Have a baby El <3 Cue emotional turmoil, confusion, violent wishes against others, and all the other good stuff! CW for vague injury description!
--- prompt: i don’t want to screw this up
--- Grove, 1305 AE
He can feel them, awfully happy and jolly and dancing around fire. Happiness feels like an over-saturated sweet (candy? He remembers the word candy but cannot quite visualise how would a candy look like) and a slap to the face, and that red shitstain of a sylvari that’s been hounding his thoughts and goading the tightness under his skin dances as well.
El would’ve charged if his hand didn’t hurt.
Fire burns, it turns out. Flaming weapons hurt. And it took one nasty fall for both the wrist and the hand to hurt.
El hasn’t dared to show his face before Cadeyrn since. He knows he’ll be laughed at, snickered, and that if he does anything, he’ll just hurt himself more. Kahedins’ gentle words get the point across perfectly well and if he were honest, he doesn’t quite like pain.
Maybe that’s why the encounter at Cadeyrn’s house a few weeks ago doesn’t sit still. Maybe that’s why he feels the shadow of Trahearne’s lips on his even after it came to pass.
He lowers his head to hide a stupid grin, raises his bandaged hand to feel at his lips again. He’ll take Trahearne’s kisses over Cadeyrn’s tender mercies any time. It’s softer and gentler and-
“Ouch,” he hisses when he presses too tightly and his hand protests. “Just heal already.” Should I test if sylvari bodies grow back after being cut off on Cadeyrn, he wonders. But cutting things off hurts (image of Malomedies carved into his mind pops in a flash, his shining, beautiful mentor struggling in his room, with holes and scars and withered bark) so he lets it fall down the terrace and shakes his head.
Leaves, shiny and long and beautiful, rattle against his ears. Tying braids requires two hands, so he’s just let it fall down his back, but braids don’t rattle as well as loose hair.
“Would you like some company?” a voice asks and El flinches. “Apologies for scaring you.”
“Trahearne!” El hides his hand away and considers removing the hems of his robe to make place. “It’s.. You did interrupt good thoughts. About my hair. It’s very pretty.”
“It is,” Trahearne agrees. “A beacon in the night such as this. One could almost mistake you for a sapling of Dawn.”
“Only superficially,” El says. “Would you see me sitting here if I was Dawn?”
“Correct.” Trahearne lingers, waiting for El to shift his skirt a little. A little need for another sentient being makes him use his healthy hand to make space, where the Firstborn descends. “How’s the hand?”
“Good,” El grumbles.
“Does it give you trouble? Does it hurt a lot?”
“It’s fine, Trahearne.” He resists the need to snuggle up against him. “It’ll heal and I could show Cadeyrn what it can do when it does.”
Trahearne smiles softly. “Is that why you’re here all alone? Are you ashamed?”
“Mistakes happen before one learns,” El frowns. “Elementalists are at most risk. The spell failed and it’s- what? Why are you looking at me like that?”
“What would happen if I told you he hurt himself as well and that he can’t step on his left foot very well?”
“He- what?” El stares. He looks behind him, watches as Cadeyrn misses a step to the dance that requires placing full weight on the left foot. “Look at that, Noonbloom. Looks like we’re both lacking this Hopesday.”
“This isn’t a competition, El. I understand you two clash, but you don’t have to best him at every opportunity you get.” Trahearne takes his good hand.
“I do, though. I’ll win. And I suppose injuries don’t add much to that.” It’s a statement of fact. El has to win, just like sun has to shine, wind has to blow, birds have to sing.
“And what do you gain when you do it?” Trahearne’s voice is neutral, but El feels his slight disapproval.
“A win,” El states. “I don’t want to talk about this.”
Trahearne shakes his head. “Alright. Now that you know what you know, would you like to join the others?”
El grins. So I can dance properly and he can’t. “I would, yes.”
Twenty years later, it’ll be El’s hand that takes Cadeyrn’s life. But he doesn’t know that. For now, just dancing better than Cadeyrn is enough.

Introducing Season 3 of The IMPACT Show
The IMPACT Show is (and always has been) a way for us to connect on a deeper level with our biggest fans, to share an early look into what IMPACT is working on and learning, and to try out new things.
The IMPACT Show at The Beginning
Bob and Nick recorded the first episode of The IMPACT Show live on Facebook on May 11, 2017. This was episode one of what was intended to be a 24-part series. (Our most recent episode was #73 so clearly, we kept it going!)
IMPACT's mission is to help people and their organizations succeed. The purpose of the show was to take a stab at Facebook Live as well as to help more people succeed!
In episode one, Bob shared some of the topics they planned to cover on the show including "building your team, getting buy-in from your organization, strategies and tactics that are working for IMPACT now, and more."
Bob also shared how we know that growth leaders don't have a lot of time. "We're all busy and it can be hard to keep up. So at the beginning of each episode, Nick and I are going to share one thing that we're keeping our eye on - from Google algorithm changes to industry events or news."
I didn't work at IMPACT yet but Iris Hearn, who was a junior inbound marketing consultant at IMPACT at the time, was active in the comments and engaging viewers in the discussion in real-time.
You can check out that first ever episode right here:
While the IMPACT Elite Facebook group was created around the time the show began, it didn't become IMPACT Elite until about two months later in June of 2017.
The first episode was definitely a success. It has over 800 views and tons of comments and engagement.
Episodes 1-20 were done live on Facebook. Episode 21 was streamed live from INBOUND 2017 and included special guests Marcus Sheridan, HubSpot's Kipp Bodnar, and DigitalMarketer's Ryan Deiss.
Episode 21 of The IMPACT Show
The End of The IMPACT Show Experiment?
After the first 23 episodes, Bob and Nick were coming to the end of their 24-week experiment. In episode 24 they tried something new as part of the show - they added a sidebar with topics to be covered as well as a topic bar at the bottom that showed what they were currently talking about. In this episode, Bob explained where that idea came from and why they decided to try it. Tl;dw: as people scrolled through their Facebook feeds and saw the live video they might be interested. However, if they saw a topic that caught their interest, they'd be more likely to click in and watch the show. You can watch that episode here:
Bob and Nick also discussed how they planned to do 24 episodes and see how it went and, since it was going well, they decided to keep going. They kept the new episodes coming every week all the way up to episode 37.
Stephanie's First IMPACT Show
Episode 38 of The IMPACT Show was different for a few reasons. First, this was the first episode I was on after I started at IMPACT! Second, this was the beginning of Nick's parental leave. From this point on, I hosted episodes with Bob Ruffolo, George B. Thomas, and Stacy Willis.
My first episode of The IMPACT Show
  The IMPACT Show Season 2
While we didn't officially announce the beginning of "Season 2" of The IMPACT Show, on episode 43 we welcomed Nick back from the parental leave and Nick and I began consistently hosting the show together every week. Nick and I feel like this was the start of a new "season" of the show. We're now dubbing the 30 episodes from 43 through 73 as "Season 2" of the show.
Best Practices Are Test Practices
At IMPACT, we're always testing and trying new things. Episode 50 aired one year after the show began and it was already a very different show from where it started. Nick and I tried a number of new things through our first episodes together including adding a new intro segment, updating our equipment, and even changing the frequency of the show to every other week. No matter what we changed we kept the purpose and goals of the show in mind which was to engage with our audience on a deeper level and help more people succeed.
From Live Episodes to Pre-Recorded
On episode 58 we did a special live broadcast of the show from INBOUND 18 (#FreeDanSally) which was an absolute blast. However, we had been seeing engagement with the live episodes steadily declining for some time. So, on episode 59, we decided to stop doing the show live and start pre-recording episodes. This allowed us to add in more transitions and music, meant we didn't need Christine to run the back end production, we didn't have to worry about the constant technical issues with live streaming, and we had more flexibility with when recorded the show.
Our first pre-recorded episode of The IMPACT Show
From this point on we did pre-recorded episodes every other week until November of 2018. Once we had a smooth process in place for creating the more produced version of the show, including edits by our new team member Megan, we decided to try going back to doing the show every week.
We quickly found that as the show had become more complex and the editing more time-consuming, we were not able to keep up with this frequency. We kicked off 2019 with episodes every other week and started including a guest in every episode (at the request of our viewers!).
This brings us to Season 3 of The IMPACT Show which will begin next week on Wednesday, April 17th, 2019, which is also just one month away from the show's two year anniversary! Before we jump into what's coming in Season 3, let's take a look at what we learned so far.
What We Learned from The IMPACT Show So Far
From surveying viewers of the show to analyzing metrics in Libsyn (our podcast hosting service) and on Facebook, we learned quite a bit about the show over the past nearly two years. We found that while people say they don't care how long the show is as long as it's good, shorter (less than 30 minutes) episodes consistently perform better. Episodes that featured a special guest or were streamed live from an event got an obvious spike in views because of the novelty but that did not translate to a consistent increase in viewers.
Show data from Libsyn showing podcast downloads of The IMPACT Show
We also found that the excitement around live video has decreased and people weren't making time (even on a Friday) to tune in to watch the show live. Finally, we learned that while people may enjoy the show, only 22% of the subscribers surveyed said they make it a point to watch every single episode.
Our viewers said they enjoy getting an inside look at what IMPACT has learned and is working on as well as when we discuss new and important trends in sales and marketing. Our audience also wanted guests on the episodes which we brought in at the beginning of 2019 and we plan to keep and expand on this segment.
Our show's audience also gave us some valuable feedback. They said they want to hear more about actual inbound campaigns, potentially from Elite members, with the results and lessons learned. We also know many viewers rely on the show as a part of their education and strategy development if they can't yet afford to invest in an agency like IMPACT for services.
"We are a small company so we use all info from IMPACT as consulting for us and the changes we can make to get better. I think it is cool that you are helping small companies that can’t afford to hire you, for example with the IMPACT Show. We become loyal so if and when we grow and are big enough to hire help, we would automatically go to where we trust and know - IMPACT."
- IMPACT Show subscriber
What's in Store for Season 3
That brings us to Season 3 of The IMPACT Show. We'll be kicking it off next week on April 17th, 2019, with a few big changes in place.
We had a few very frank discussions at IMPACT about whether or not we should keep doing the show and if we're keeping true to our goal of connecting more deeply with our community and helping more people succeed. We talked about what the show should look like if we keep doing it (we're still doing it!) and what needs to change. We shared data, asked for feedback from other podcasters and show hosts at IMPACT, and brainstormed ideas. I am very excited to share with you what we've come up with.
The new episodes will be significantly shorter (think 10-15 minutes).
We will still be doing a video podcast and sharing the audio to podcast platforms. However, we'll now only be publishing the video version in IMPACT Elite. We will be posting it on Wednesdays at 11:30am ET as a Watch Party which means Elite members can come watch the show together in real time. (Mark your calendars!) Nick and I will be hanging out in the comments and would love to chat with you all as you watch.
We'll keep including guests but this section will expand from just IMPACT team members to including guests from the Elite community as well.
We look forward to bringing you an improved and even more valuable show in Season 3 and as always, until then, we'll see you in Elite!

Okay okay hear me out everyone
Taimi programming Scruffy to take photos of everyone when they’re all together, maybe a nice dinner at someone’s house or something
So you get a little gallery of intimate Commander and DW shots!
Braham carrying Nyra over his shoulder and struggling with it because she’s not very light, Hearne and Gorrik shot mid very scientific discussion, Nyra posing with the urn that supposedly contains her own ashes, Jory tickling Kas, Rytlock after he falls in a body of water and is all drenched and grumpy, Braham and Nyra hugging Taimi and many many wholesome shots like this
Sanne ends up very confused by the reality of DW, because she expected a serious group (and they are if need be) but they’re also good friends who want to have fun with each other, and as she’s Braham’s girlfriend, she is their honorary member in the same way Trahearne is, so she wants to die a little when she sees a sudden shot of a drunk Braham hugging her and she made a funny face when she noticed it while everyone thinks it’s very cute
Canach knows these photos exists and only respect he has for Nyra and Rytlock is stopping him from using them to his own advantage.
To stop him, Nyra purposefully makes a photo he’d rather not be shared so she can use it as a bargaining chip of sorts but he’d never really leak those because he cares DW under all that spikiness

A miscellaneous Nyra thought: she has a slight accent. Not very noticeable and doesn’t affect comprehension at all, it’s just a little idiosyncrasy of hers. Though she grew up in Kryta, her first language is Ascalonian and it bleeds into the way she speaks Krytan, Common and basically everything else. It’s in the little words and sounds (for example, her R is slightly harsher than what would be expected in New Krytan) and she sometimes accentuates words in a different way.
On that note, she uses her first language more than expected. Her letters home are in Ascalonian, she reads poetry in Ascalonian and still primarily speaks it with her parents and relatives. Sometimes to Trahearne too, to help him practice, but oftentimes gets too carried away and Hearne has to use a dictionary or two because she used a word that’s only a slang in Rurikton
DW finds this incredibly endearing, though Rytlock and Braham tease her for forgetting certain words sometimes, for example when accidentally said ribbit instead of rabbit because she was groggy and had just woken up so Braham drew a frog with bunny ears and needless to say the paper flew in his direction very quickly. Scruffy doesn’t have the memory of the sound itself but Taimi saved the paper and took a shot of it with a description of Nyra on 75% less sleep than is recommended

*banging head against the wall and breathing an endless litany of curses in several languages* I'm halfway through the second chapter of my Heart of Thorns fic and I happened to be poking around the tags when I realised... In your verse, Trahearne is briefly overtaken by Mordremoth and harms Nyra... Well... I have a huge problem because I read that yesterday and I happened to have something writen for a few days now, before I actually posted anything or created the blog that went a little (exactly) like that in my own fic T_T I swear it's purely coincidental but I wouldn't want you to believe I plagiarized your fic, and I have this whole scene with Mordremoth's possession, Trahearne almost ends up ripping Anwen's throat out and they're kinda saved by someone else (spoilers!) taking Caladbolg and cutting off Trahearne's arm (ouch!) But now I feel just awful because it's so damn close to your own story and I don't want you to be angry or anything, or people thinking I ripped off your fic. *screams endlessly into the void* What do I do ?! T_T
Heya! Okay so no need to feel like you ripped me off because you didn't! I don't think a shared idea/element in our fics that just makes sense (Mordremoth hates the Commander, so obviously he wants them hurt or dead) is plagiarising; Anwen isn't Nyra and if Mordremoth attacked her too it just confirms that Mordremoth isn't player-sexual lol
I'm also sure tons of other people have that happen to their Commander too, so you're fine as far as I'm concerned <3 It's sweet of you to send this ask though!
Also good for that someone for saving Anwen's throat. Hurts Hearne lost an arm but it's self-defense? Defense of someone else??? Either way a v nice touch that's fundamentally different from my story because nobody saves Nyra from having to live with chronic shoulder pain for the rest of her life.
Summa summarum I'm not angry, I relish in the shared braincell and as far as I'm concerned, you're not plagiarising, dw <3

the 'who do they hate the most' questions for nyra, el and ren?
Okay anon, that is a really good question :eyes:
🧡 Who is your OC’s favourite person? Why is this person the top of their list and have they actually met them (an idol or rolemodel or celeb can be someone’s favourite after all!).
Who does your OC absolutely hate, the one person who they’d sell to Satan for one corn chip? Why do they loathe this person so?
Nyra
- As far as her fave person, there is a small list - DW, Aurene & Trahearne. Her parents and siblings go on that list as well. She doesn't rank them because that's highly redundant for her - she loves them all equally but in different ways.
As to who she'd sell to Satan for a fraction of a corn chip, that title is shared between Balthazar, Smodur, Mordremoth and Bangar, for various reasons. They have either caused her great pain, been racist assholes who fight against what she stands for, have tried to kill her or let her down big time.
El
- He has only two fave people - Trahearne and Liv. I guess the Pale Tree is in there somewhere as well? But Hearne and Liv are his closest people so he naturally adores them.
And who he hates? Well, a lot of people, chief amongst them Mordremoth, Nyra for a while too, Adryn, Cadeyrn, Vorpp... He has very vivid hateful feelings. Add Joko in there because he barely passed the Joko exam in the magical history section of his degree.
Ren
- Three people - Tybalt, Akila and Doern count as favourite people, but she has a lot of people she likes, just doesn't idealise them. Doern is more of a role model variety favourite, whereas Tybs and Akila are personal.
Likewise, she rarely hates individual people, only institutions and wider societal forces that drive them. But she reserves a special spot in hell for the judge that sentenced Vera to death and in fact, sent him there herself
