Why did Gary growl and cover Efnisien's face/mouth when he said the safeword? Was he angry and trying to stop Efnisien from saying it so he could continue? If yes how did he manage to pull himself back from the brink of doing something unforgivable?

I think Gary was so uncoordinated in that moment, he wasn't thinking 'I need to shut you up' but there was definitely an instinct of: 'How dare someone tell me to stop.'

There was a visceral war with himself when he growls vs. when he places his hand on Efnisien's face, almost like he's trying to feel his breathing and his voice. It's a very quick motion, and while Efnisien assumes it's to shut him up, I actually think Gary was literally very out of it in that moment and was kind of bracing himself to even understand what happened.

Like, this is a guy who didn't respond to a lot of basic language and sentences for three days, or when he did, mostly could only do so in basic sentences or even single words. So while the peak alpha grokked the 'how dare you' pause, I think it was like a 'wait is an alpha trying to stop me from taking what is mine' level of confusion. He places his hands on Efnisien's face, almost like he's trying to find where the words came from, in my mind. Like someone who is blind who is trying to find a fan switch in a new place. They don't quite know where it is, but they know it's important in hot weather.

He then does hear more of Efnisien's voice (in the form of a distressed shriek) and immediately stops.

I really don't think this is as clean as 'he was fully aware, heard something he didn't want to hear, and made a choice to make sure Efnisien couldn't safeword again.' I don't even think he knew at the time what he heard, or how to understand it, only that he heard it and that he had to stop.

If yes how did he manage to pull himself back from the brink of doing something unforgivable?

Tbh Gary has the safeword to literally stop himself from doing the unforgiveable. And he does it with an immense amount of willpower that almost no human will ever really comprehend. Dude was barely even conscious at the time. Just like Efnisien spent many hours in a heavily dissociated receptive headspace, Gary does the same but from a more dominating peak alpha side. Literally just ruled by hormones in a very primitive way.

I'd say he's one of the only peak alphas in the world who can actually listen to a safeword at all in that state. I don't even think Temsen could.

I've been trying to expand the amount of queer YouTubers I watch (since right now it's mostly cishet white dudes playing games) and Jessie gender keeps coming up as a suggestion but I've never been sure about giving her a shot

I cannot recommend Jessie Gender for even background noise. It's not just bad analysis, she also makes multiple objectively incorrect assertions in that video, and the way they're framed makes me suspect she's being intentionally misleading, not stupid. Worthless channel.

It's honestly hard for me to make recommendations here, because at this point I genuinely believe the 'queer/leftist video essayist' archetype is just poisoned. I'm off my ADHD meds rn so I'm struggling to articulate this properly but the field is fucking overrun with people whose approach to analysis is just a checklist of their own identities/political views and so many of them just run together. The media analysis channels I would most recommend are not Queer Youtubers TM but here's what I got

Team Wild Fang Headcanons

After Nile and demure found out that Kyoya’s rival’s name was Gingka, they insisted on playing the game Jenga at least once a week just to annoy him.

They all have dual citizenship to Savannah.

They were given a small apartment by the Savannah government as thanks for their help to expand Savannah’s trading during the World Championships.

All arguments consist of everyone switching back and forth between like four central languages. Eventually they all get so confused they just stop.

Nile and Demure’s families moved to Savannah after the World Championships.

Benkei didn’t start traveling with the team until the match in India. Before that, he was just listed on the paperwork and honestly had no idea that Kyoya wrote his name down.

Their group chat is extremely chaotic. Like next level chaos and switches topics every 45 seconds.

All of their families absolutely adore the group and consider them all to be family literal moments after meeting them.

The age order of the group is Benkei, then Nile, followed really closely by Demure, and finally Kyoya. They all (but especially Nile) tease Kyoya about this fact constantly. 

They all have matching fang charms. Kyoya wears his as a necklace, Nile wears theirs hanging from their belt, Demure wears xyrs as an earring, and Benkei wears his on his backpack.

They all are super protective over Kakeru, who adores having 3 new older siblings as well as Kyoya.

They all are earning each other’s first languages and try to help each other with it as well. Kyoya and Benkei are learning Arabic and Swahili, Nile is learning Japanese and Swahili, and Demure is learning Japanese and Arabic.

They are insanely popular in Savannah as they are essentially the country’s first celebrities so they get a ton of attention.

They all get jobs working at a nature reserve/park in Savannah after the World Championships (part time jobs). Kyoya is a park ranger, Demure is a tour guide, Nile is a cultural educator at the cultural center, and Benkei is a chef in the park building’s cafe.

Demure randomly started carrying a bat with xem. And no, xe will not ever explain how or where xe got it.

Kyoya randomly got really into rock climbing in Savannah and no they all do it as a way to hang out and do team bonding outside of just regular battle practice.

They get matching tattoos of their team crest over their hearts when they’re older.

When Kyoya got a pet cat they all begged him not to name it Lion, especially Demure. Kyoya proceeded to name it Simba, which is lion in Swahili... Demure’s first language. Demure is still annoyed by this.

They have a shared video folder of Kyoya doing cat-like things that they use as blackmail.

Demure is essentially the team parent and xe is so tired of Kyoya’s grumpiness, Benkei’s impulsiveness, and Nile’s complete disregard for their personal health at this point.

Nile is essentially a world class strategist and is amazing with planning battles or events.

They use wrestling matches to solve nearly everything from arguments to Kyoya sitting in the good spot on the couch and even just being bored. They always all end up laughing, even if they were originally fighting.

I like to go on r/printscifi and I feel like every single day there’s a new post about Blindsight, it’s like these people have the biggest stick up their asses about how hating this book is cool and correct idgi lmao.

Like, I remember checking it out on a whim one time at the library I was working at and getting really invested in it. I love it and it became one of my fav books of all time. But I understand why a lot of people might not like it- I think the way it’s filled with extremely technical jargon can kind of turn people away (I say this as someone who didn’t fully understand all of the technical concepts and had to have a dictionary open through the entire book [altho I did find a site that specifically explains the concepts in it which helped too]).

Anyway though the thing that I find funniest about the Reddit thing is yeah people shit on the writing and the jargon and the author, but like 95% of the hate people express boils down to them raging over the idea of space vampires.
