mithruns story has to be one of my favorites bc, aside from senshi's backstory, it was one of the first sequences that really touched on the horror genre imo. like yeaah you had a few elements sprinkled here and there leading up to ch.62, but nothing quite as intense as his. and while i personally dont know much abt the mythology or symbolism associated w goats (e.g. baphomet), i assume its very deliberate (!!) and id love to look into why that is (on the lookout for mithrun meta 🫡)

the VISUALS THOUGH??...brah.. the picture of consumption and greed..the gradual degradation of his perfected reality , his sense of self , into smth distorted and unrecognizable .to be left w a life devoid of desire and have 2 deal w the realization that a similar fate potentially awaits laios, marcille, and thistle as the winged lion's intentions are laid bare. like its crazy.2 me. it serves its purpose so well and i think its made mithrun into a really fascinating character . i like that the monsters in dunmeshi arent like..avoidable ? if you know what i mean. even characters with a strong sense of self-preservation find themselves victim to their desires at one point or another. despite knowing the nature of magic mirrors, he still chose to look into it that day and chose to indulge in the demon's offer . rly great humanization at play imo

Most of the drivers are more concerned about padding their own pockets. Lando is probably the worst on the grid though. He has a lot of influence and acts like he keeps it real and doesn’t care bc he tells it like it is and isn’t afraid. He’s a total faker. He never speaks up and only repeats what his PR team tell him to say. Nothing seems genuine or real about him. Not only that but Lando travels the world and has fans from all over and doesn’t even care to look at a map and be made aware of what part of the world he’s in. He charges obscene amounts for his shitty merchandise when he knows his fans aren’t making that kind of money. He also accepts money when he does stream on twitch. He has no shame. At the Miami GP he goes and says people should respect a guy who has a known reputation for being an incredibly racist and misogynistic. His fan girls don’t care though bc they all think they have a shot with him and think he’s cute.

Anon, in the most gentle way, while I do agree with some things here, I feel like there are so many other things ur getting angry at him for, for no reason.

Also surprising I haven’t used more broadway lyrics, but here we are. My absolute favorite musical which, in part, is about hunger driving you to do desperate things. This piece was so largely focused on food insecurity for me. Every chapter revolves around food to some degree, and even the metaphors and similes Angel uses to describe the world around them are tied to food. It’s something that those of us who grew up with food insecurity can relate to; when you’re hungry, everything reminds you of food. When you live hungry, it consumes your every thought. When Noblezada as Eurydice delivers the line “it’s my gut I can’t ignore / Orpheus, I’m hungry,” you can hear it in her voice. It’s worth a listen for that line alone.

This song explores the deep hunger within the singer, countered by the lightness she feels within herself. Angel, in this piece, is haunted by their hunger and treats David poorly because of it. The light that he shows them helps them to reach for the light within themself. We love healing in this house!!!

Oh boy I could go on for ages about Hozier. His songs are on almost all of my Redacted playlists and so I listen to his work pretty much every time I write for Redacted. His lyricism and prose are evident in my work, I think. This piece, one of Angel’s first indications of how protective David is, fits so well with this song. Swinging wildly between protectiveness and possessiveness, David mirrors the song’s progression throughout the piece. I think “Belongs to me” is the operative part of this title.

Alright so… for real… this piece should have been named “is it wickedness? is it weakness?” after the first (or last, depending on how you play it) track on Kendrick Lamar’s “Damn.” That entire album is a work of art, and it can be played cohesively forward or backward, each play telling a different story. Forward is Kendrick’s life as it is, and backward is how it might have gone had his father died when he was young.

In this story, the inciting incident for Sweetness to be so different from the Sweetheart that we know is their mother dying when they were young. I’m positing here that Sweetheart in the main universe still has their mom and that’s why they’re kinder.

Anyway. I stand by “Venom” being a banger. It’s themes don’t run as cohesively with this story as Damn.‘s do, but I can live with it. For now.

Hozier’s work has always connected with me deeply, all the way back to when I was a repressed queer kid listening to “Take Me To Church.” Now, as he’s putting out this big push of music, I’m finding myself connecting with the core of his music again. This song, a song about surrendering to the impossibility and incomprehensible nature of love, is perfect for William and Alexis. Will’s love for Alexis isn’t healthy, and it doesn’t lead him to sound choices, but he feels he has no choice. So he surrenders to it.

A gentle knock on the door startled Jun awake. You were standing in the doorway, looking apologetic as the blonde scrambled to sit up.

"Did I wake you up?" You asked in a soft voice, careful not to be loud. His wounds were getting better but you never know if he might be sensitive to loud noises, considering how he was just startled.

"No, I was just thinking," Jun flushed, embarrassed that he had actually dozed off for a few minutes while thinking. "I wasn't asleep!"

"Sure," you indulged in his lie and just smiled to yourself. "Can I come in?"

"Of course!" Jun hastened to reply, gesturing to the seat Gang had vacated a day before. No one else had dropped by after he had gone to talk to Mr. Baek and while the quiet was peaceful and good for recovery, it was very uncommon when around the students of Baek Suryong. "If you don't mind me asking… where is everyone?"

"There's been… a situation," you said as you sat down. "You don't need to worry about it. You should focus on your recovery."

Jun paused. It clearly wasn't something minor. You looked a little upset while talking about it and he didn't like seeing you like that. It made him uneasy. But you didn't want to speak about it so he wouldn't pry too much.

"Is everyone taking care of the situation then?" He asked carefully. You just nodded. "Then… how come you didn't go with them?"

"Oh!" Your cheeks tinted a light pink at that, and you looked down at the bowl of medicine you had held in your hands the whole time. "I… I thought someone should stay back to check on you. Not, not that you need it! I was just, worried, I guess, and I trust Mr. Baek to handle the other problem so I thought I could stay back and make sure you're healing properly– sorry! I'm rambling."

You squeezed your eyes shut, and Jun noted how your fingers were practically digging into the bowl. You looked nervous and embarrassed for some reason. He should say something to make you comfortable…

"I appreciate it," he settled on those words after thinking for a few seconds. You opened your eyes and peeked at him curiously. "Thank you for staying behind for me. Is that the same medicine from yesterday?"

"Yeah," you held it out to him. Jun reached out to take it and his hand gently wrapped around the bowl, overlapping on your fingers. The innocent touch made both of you flush and you practically pushed the bowl into his hands. Snapping your hands back to yourself, you just said a quick, "There is some more left for tomorrow as well."

"Right."

Jun stared down at his reflection in the murky colours, swallowing down the lump in his throat. He could still taste the bitterness of it from yesterday.

"I almost forgot!"

Your sudden exclamation made him look up. He watched as you drew something from your pockets and held it out to him. In your hands were a few pieces of… candy?

"I heard from Gang that you were complaining about the bitterness," you explained.

"I wasn't complaining!" Jun felt embarrassed. That Gang was really destroying his image in front of you! You giggled at his defensive retort.

"So I thought you might like some candy after it," you finished with a warm smile. The sight of it was enough to make Jun's heart throb a little faster and louder and he hurried to down the medicine so you wouldn't notice his rapidly reddening cheeks. You always got his insides wrecking so easily. "Woah there, slow down. There's no rush."

Jun dropped the empty bowl on his lap, face scrunched lightly from the bitterness. He took one of the candies you were offering and popped it into his mouth, the sweetness helping to smooth over the aftertaste.

"Good?" You tilted your head in question.

"Mm," Jun gave you a small smile of his own. He watched your eyes crinkle as you returned it with your own sweet smile. "Thank you for the candy. It was exactly what I needed."

"I'll make some more for you next time," you promised, placing the remaining next to his bed. Jun looked at you in surprise.

"You made the candy?" He watched a light flush crawl across the tip of your ears and down your neck.

"I like making candy once in a while," you shrugged. "It was the only one I had on me at the moment… I hope it didn't taste weird!"

"No, it was really good," he smiled at you. Inside, his heart was beating too fast again. He got to eat your own handmade candy?! Lucky! "When you say next time… How long will I have to wait?"

You paused and looked at him with wide eyes. He had said it a little teasingly but you seemed to have taken it seriously. Before Jun could correct it, your lips curled into a smile.

The boys all held onto each other, forming a chain as they followed their father. Leo was leading, of course, and his held held tight onto Raph’s as they made their way through the sewers.

Splinter was very angry.

Leo had been the first awake that morning. He quickly washed his face and came out to the kitchen to get the breakfast packs Raph had made the night before. They’d been preparing for this trek. They knew the risks.

He’d gone to Mikey first, knowing it would take him the longest to properly wake up. He helped him out of bed and shoved the breakfast salad in his hands, making sure he was actually eating before hurrying to continue his rounds.

Raph was just pulling himself out of bed when Leo came in. They shared a look, a mutual agreement, and Leo handed him his food.

Raph went to wake Donnie.

They all ate quickly.

They gathered up their travel packs and their weapons.

Mikey ran them all through breathing exercises, helping center them to make the transition as easy as possible.

Now they were walking.

They didn’t know the specifics of how this arrangement came to be, but clearly their father wasn’t happy about it.

A few months back Draxum had spent the night. During that stay, he’d suggested the boys all come to visit his home in the Hidden City. Splinter had been vehemently against it at first.

Then, in the morning, Draxum had kissed them all on the head and announced loudly that he would see them on a specific date for a day of “bonding!”

Splinter was furious.

They didn’t know why Splinter didn’t just outright refuse, but they knew better than to question him when he was clearly so irritated. His tail flicked back and forth aggressively as they marched through the sewers.

They arrived at a dead end and Splinter told them to look away.

When he finally allowed them to look back the brick wall had turned to a mystical doorway into the Hidden City. He hissed for them to follow and they did, stepping into the yokai world.

They were at a bus stop. Leo lead them to the bench, all of them sitting to wait patiently for whatever would happen next.

“I don’t like bringing you boys here.” Splinter told them, “It’s just as bad as New York. You will not leave Draxum’s home and you will not wander, understood?”

“Yes, Sir.” They all chimed.

“Where is that damned goat?” Splinter scowled, looking out to the road, stepping off the curb to get a better look, “If he is not here in-“

THUMP.

“Father!”

“Hey boys!”

The turtles all stared in stunned silence as Splinter scratched the hood of Draxum’s car, groaning in pain from the force of the vehicle slamming forcibly into him. Draxum looked out the window, frowning.

“What the hell are you doing standing in the street!?”

Splinter’s head popped up, rage in his eyes.

“Well.” Raph groaned, “There goes our chances of ever doing this again.”

my promethean: the created character gets a motorbike because theyre inspired in part by the character of Jenny from the mountain goats and i wanted to give them the bike she has, and i wanted to draw lots of dynamic angles of this bike, and by chance i did find a 3d render of the model of bike so i dont have to rely on the very Staged Showroom pictures that are the majority of references of this bike. its not a perfect recreation but it's a huge help

so marc and lewis- i can see where you’re coming from but most people consider lewis to be more similar to valentino rossi (now retired 9X world champion), as the “GOATS” of their respective sports- they actually did a video trading machinery! see here

marc is compared more often to max from what i’ve seen- redbull golden kids, very young entry to the sport etc, but lewis and marc would be more similar in terms of how quickly marc started winning. i think the rookie of motogp this year- pedro acosta- is going to end up being more similar to max- redbull’s young talent, bit hotheaded but i’m not sure yet!

for charles- the most similar would probably be francesco “pecco” bagnaia- driving for the italian red team and trying to bring them back to championship winning ways. i’d say pecco isn’t quite as revered as charles is but a similar kind of vibe

i’d say in terms of vibes carlos and jorge martin are quite similar- spanish riders that win races but have been looked over by the red team in favour of a multi world champion (….i mean not yet for martin but,,,, silly season do be upon us)

just binged all ur meta content on ao3 (so well-written and well-thought) and i think i have an addition to the two Job parts: u said crowley is gloomy and acts cold and distant, tries testing aziraphale's trust in him etc but. hear me out. in the end of the minisode when the angels arrive at Job and Sitis', we see the true actual crowley, all goofy midwife/cobbler and way more himself again and i believe it's because as u said he isn't just as alone anymore. aziraphale has done the right thing and on top of that he saw crowley and trusted him and crowley was a little less alone. and that change of demeanour from all you've - rightfully - stated in the first two parts of analysis melts a little to show the actual crowley, the kinda goofy one. he would've done the right thing and saved the kids and the goats anyways, of course, but for the first time he didn't have to do it alone. he had help, and even someone who trusted and saw him. he's tentative with it but definitely a little happier. maybe he found a little something to - carefully, hesitantly, briefly - believe in after losing faith in god. maybe there's still goodness to be found. maybe even in an angel.

Hey you guys! ❤ I wanted to answer these two messages together, because I think there are some good dots to connect. Both times, Crowley is feeling abnormally good about the situation he's in, and then Aziraphale says something completely off the wall, and Crowley is like "😂 WHAT did you just say?? 💕" I really don't think either time he means to be condescending.

In general, Crowley is delighted by Aziraphale because he keeps doing surprising things. Crowley thinks humans are great because they keep coming up with wacky things demons could never expect, and he likes Aziraphale in large part because that wacky angel keeps doing things like insisting Good is Good and Bad is Bad and then giving away his sword and lying to angels and declaring war on hell.

Keep in mind that during Job, they're still getting to know each other. Crowley in that scene is trying to make Aziraphale feel better, but he also doesn't know what works yet. He's never actually had a friend before.

By contrast, I think the problem in the halo scene is that they know each other too well, or at least they think they do, to the point Crowley's making assumptions.

(This may have ballooned into an analysis of both scenes, but I promise we include the laughing thing. Stick with me!)

I think Crowley is kind of giddy by the end of Job. Overall, things have really just taken a turn for him. You're right, this is the first time he's feeling like he's not completely alone anymore. To a degree he absolutely did not expect! Not only did Aziraphale, in private, trust him beyond being a demon, try food, almost admit he doesn't trust God... but in front of the other angels, Aziraphale backs up Crowley's Bildad ploy. And that was Aziraphale's decision to do so, when Crowley first runs into room, it really doesn't seem like he's counting on Aziraphale to help him out at all. He just throws himself in front of Sitis and starts improvising, and it's the other angels he's looking at.

Anon 1, I like your idea that this is a more real Crowley peeking through here. Compare how he acts as Bildad in this scene to how he acts in S1 when he's tricking Hastur into the phone.

Crowley is a theater kid loves when he's taking charge of a situation and spinning people around on his own terms, and here Aziraphale gives him everything he needs to keep the angels fooled.

One part that's kind of funny and also pretty telling is when Job starts blowing it, Crowley decides this is a fantastic time to not be standing in the Angels' direct line of sight anymore! and goes to hover casually next to the other exit instead.

And Anon1, here's where I'm going to quote you because this made something click for me:

Crowley might not believe in Good and Bad, but he does believe in right and wrong. Crowley started this whole thing pissed off, alone, seemingly the only one operating under none of heaven's illusions about whose fault this is. This is God's fault, heaven might not want blood on their hands but that's where Crowley knows it belongs.

So when Aziraphale comes through for Crowley several times in a row, culminating in him breaking form with the other angels to lie and save those kids, I think yeah, it gives Crowley faith in Aziraphale. This angel might be coated in all heaven's brainwashing, but when it comes down to it, he knows what right and wrong is, and more importantly, he'll do something about it. Aziraphale is the angel. Put a pin in that.

So after everything's over, Crowley goes to find Aziraphale, looking to work out their new arrangement. Not the Arrangement yet, but to get a feel for how things are going to be between the two of them now that this has happened. Probably wanting to check this didn't all scare him off too badly. And uh, it turns out it kind of did, the angel is full on weeping by the sea over here. But he doesn't regret what he did! This is salvageable.

So here Crowley comes, trying to balance Aziraphale out by playing it cool. He really wants this to work.

The first time I heard him say this it knocked the wind out of me. This is Crowley returning the trust the Aziraphale showed him in that barn, and doubling down on it infinitely. Crowley sits down and looks away and makes himself as non-threatening as possible, and he tells this angel, I have no intention of ever being a danger to you as a demon. He's presenting it in a way that is begging the angel not to make a big deal of it, but it is huge.

(This is also, in my mind, where 'angel' becomes a pet name.)

[I realize this has gotten a little far afield but I wanted some groundwork first, and look we're here now!!]

(Also before I get to be funny, can I point out that for "I'm like you now" below, they're occupying the same part of the screen? rad.)

SO, right as Crowley's really settled into this whole 'no, really, you're an angel, you're like THE angel,' thing, and he's tensed up because he just dropped his undemonic bombshell part 2, 'I never killed the goats and now I don't want to drag you to hell...' How is the angel going to react?

Well, here comes Aziraphale, insisting "No, you have to!" okay why, because I'm a demon, are we doing that? "Because no no look, I'M a demon, really!!"

and. Look, Crowley tries, give the guy some credit.

HE IS TRYING NOT TO LAUGH. BUT THEN JUST. LOOK AT AZIRAPHALE. HE IS THE CUTEST MOST PATHETIC (affectionate) THING EARTH HAS EVER SEEN.

Crowley just had what started as the absolute worst day at work, that turned around beyond his wildest dreams, and then he's hit in the face with the most ridiculous, sweetest thing he's ever heard. TELL ME YOU WOULDN'T BREAK WHEN YOU'RE ALREADY RIDING HIGH AND THIS FLUFFY LITTLE BUNNY RABBIT LOOKED YOU IN THE EYE AND INSISTED "BUT I'M A DEMON." YOU LOOK AT ME AND YOU TELL ME YOU'D HOLD IT TOGETHER ANY BETTER.

And Crowley apologizes twice while laughing! Once during his first laugh, even. He knows he's being a dick, but he's got the giggles. It's just so absurd to him, it's like he doesn't know what to do but try to explain what he's seeing. Which is uhh, not the right move, Aziraphale is not ready to laugh about this. But hey, they're learning each other.

And then. in the rest of this scene I think we see Crowley adjusting his expectations in real time. This isn't going to be fully as great as he was hoping, but it can still be good.

They make a point of showing him sighing, then looking small and alone.

I remember someone pointing out (especially in retrospect) how sad a line "Then nothing has to change" is. And I'm thinking now this is Crowley settling them into what's going to be their status quo going forward, in an effort to make Aziraphale comfortable.

(This was about Crowley laughing, how did we get sad. Dammit, Job minisode. MOVING ON.)

You blew up your halo?

OKAY SO. It's a similar giddy situation in 2.06 at the end of Crowley's little field trip to heaven. He's been so stressed all week about the danger they've been in, but now? Look at all he's getting away with!

He's a dorky James Bond, his heaven outfit's even got the tactical turtleneck. He LOVES feeling like he's gotten one over on heaven (his stupid disguise is such a beautifully petty insult), and he's found a huge break in the Gabriel case. He finally got to DO something that wasn't just being trapped in the bookshop or his car. This is peak chaos demon enrichment.

He might not have all the answers yet, but he's got the pieces they'll need. It's starting to feel like they'll be able to solve this all soon and get back to their lives. The only thing now is whatever new trouble Aziraphale's gotten himself into. So Anthony J(ames Bond) Crowley comes swooping back in and…

Angel you absolute madlad, that's fucking fantastic!

From Crowley's perspective, Aziraphale's done what Crowley just did: Got one over on hell like he did on heaven. On the scale of everything Crowley's been worrying about, this is barely anything, he can talk them out of this! They're going to be fiiine! And okay, Aziraphale's being a little glareful about it, but not any more than he was when Crowley was teasing him over his out-of-date music opinions. This is just how they are!

Except. Except with everything that happened, it's not exactly like that right now for Aziraphale. He looks tired, he's maybe embarrassed/ashamed it got this far, AND. He's been worried sick all night, where have you been???

Remember, while Crowley's been worrying about what Heaven will do to Aziraphale, Aziraphale's been freaked out about the threat hell poses to Crowley. And the last time he saw Crowley, he was walking into a crowd of demons and promising Aziraphale he'd come back. And then he didn't.

And now Aziraphale's pissed hell off even further.

And here comes Crowley! Waltzing back into the bookshop, completely fine, with a bunch of angels in tow (?!?!), aaand the first thing he does is tease Aziraphale.

Yeah, Aziraphale is just not in the mood. I think normally, this wouldn't be much of a problem. We don't always react perfectly, sometimes we're just trying to annoy the people we love a little and misstep into actually hurting them, because we mean to say one thing and it lands as another. When my loved ones do that to me, I know them well enough to know they'd be mortified if they realized they were actually hurting my feelings, and that alone soothes the sting most of the time. When it doesn't, that's a thing we can deal with.

Same thing with Crowley here, he doesn't mean anything by it! He's just trying to tease Aziraphale a bit, not laugh at him. He loves him, he respects him, he finds what he's doing charming! What he's trying to communicate that isn't coming across is: 'You're absolutely not a demon, don't even worry' and 'I'm proud of you.'

Someday, Aziraphale will do something wildly unpredictable and Crowley will get to be delighted and laugh freely about it, and Aziraphale will get be annoyed but in a way that's warm underneath, because he knows he's loved and they're not in danger anymore. Let's look forward to that.
