Thanks to a certain krosrios on instagram ive been thinking up a new dpxdc fanfic

Cause listen having Danny leave his town cause of angst or college is cool. Having Danielle leave the town out of angst or just because is grand.

But hear me out

Dan going to Gotham because he has bonded enough with Team Phantom that they trust him to not destroy the world. He has gotten attached to Dani and reattached to Jazz and though he wont admit it is maybe a little too attached to purposefully destroy what they love.

Maybe he is following Jazz to keep her safe. Maybe he is just getting out of dodge for personal reasons and someone (cough cough) nudged him in the direction of Gotham.

But like imagine

Some angry kid settles down in crime alley of all places and quickly becomes talk of the town bc for how agressive he is he is also well known for helping when he can, in a perhaps too agressive way (not unlike a certain red hooded individual).

I imagine he is probably in his twenties and while lanky in his human form built like a tank in his ghost form. He works at a bouncer at a local bar or club and makes some side cash fixing appliances for people.

Some kids start whispering about him maybe being red hood or being related to red hood which obviously catches the vigilantes attention. Especially when some young street kid pulls a “well you would help me wouldnt you…. DAN??” *stares hard to see his reaction*

When Hood doesnt find anything he reluctantly flags it to Tim who only manages to find the name Daniel Fenton but that cant be right. His phone is actively pinging him in a small town in illinois. Unless its a twin of some kind? Or a clone, time jokes, but that cant be it bc thats just some kid. Nobody would have a reason to clone him.

Regardless some random unidentified man who can clearly fight and for whatever reason sets Jason off is a pretty big red flag. And while neither Tim nor Jason particularly wanna tell the Bat since they dont have anything concrete it is pretty concerning.

Maybe they end up breaking into a tired Dan’s apartment and questioning him.

Maybe Duke is walking through town and sees a kind old lady lecturing a fucking ghost?? God??? Guy??? And shoving food into his hands even tho he looks like he could kill her.

Maybe Barbara is spooked by a guy appearing beside her in a bookshop and reaching around her to grab a pretty in depth psychology book.

Maybe Tim finds him later with a young girl who looks just like him playing in the park.

Who knows!! I just think there is a lot to work with and his personality would be just wonderful to add into the batfamily boilin pot.

i know that its popular to hc that wwx is a disaster at like household chores and doing adult stuff,, but in all honesty wwx is the kid who kept playing in lakes and getting muddy until madam yu went fuck it you have to wash your own clothes now, hoping that it’d be too hard/annoying and he’d stop making a mess, but he just ends up taking over that chore bc if he’s washing the mud out of his socks he might as well wash them out of jc’s too and he might as well do everyone else’s too. (and if it just so happens to make wwx feel like he’s finally earning his keep,, well....) 

and then when wwx is an adult and nhs invites him out to a bar wwx tells him that he doesnt have any party clothes, not because he doesnt know how to wash his clothes but bc he doesnt have enough laundry to justify putting a load on (it’s expensive okay). wwx is best friends with the ladies who run the coin laundry,,, are they the ghost ladies?? maybe so... named such for their incredible skill at getting blood stains out of white sheets (wwx would prefer if no one asked about that story). anyway, he comes down every two weeks on a thursday night at like 7.30pm precisely and he does his laundry, irons all his shirts and stuff and then neatly folds his clothes before pulling out his dinner and immediately spilling it over his shirt. the ghost ladies keep serviettes on hand. but he’s still good at that stuff!! wine stains dont stand a chance when wwx is trying to get them out!!

lwj in contrast,,, is a ridiculously rich boy who only ever wore whites. there wasnt so much as a single black sock in his household,, the darkest clothes he had were like light grey. anyway, lwj doesnt realise that you need multiple loads of washing until he tries to wash wwx’s red jumper with his clothes and he’s immediately calling his brother for help. lxc is just like uhhh bleach?? and lwj pours the entire bottle of bleach over his clothes. wwx walks into his place like two hours later to see lwj just lying on the floor in some shitty pink and white splotchy pants

TMI: Alec and Magnus. okay so this is for both obvious reasons (fan favourite) and some other personal ones. Living where i do, i had no idea you could like the same gender as yourself or ltr anything about the LGBTQ+ community at all. These two were the first gay ship i had EVER read and they are what lead me to be as confident in my sexuality as i am right now. they introduced me to the concept of thinking beyond what i was told or shown by the people that surround me and look into the world the right way, without projecting judgement. i love them for that. theyre my comfort characters and the one of the biggest reasons i am who i am right now. also magnus is pr much why i adore glitter and i manage to put it on my face every other day ahaha

TDA: Diana n Gwynn. a very, very close second is Mark n Cristina n Keiran. but about Diana and Gwynn, they literally have my entire soul im not even kidding you. Gwyn is the first person Diana opens up to about her transition and its honestly so heartwarming that Gwyn, the leader of the Wild Hunt, known to be vicious and feared by faerie, is literally just there for her to lean on. He supports her and is so, so calm and soft with her it genuinely melts me. like, this man is basically the reaper of souls and he rides a magnificent steed into the night but hes so gentle with Diana. obviously my obsession w them is reinforced by the fact that the FIRST time Gwynn sees Diana he goes 'O' and is all like 'HELLO my fair lady beautiful one gorgeous strong lovely lady' and gives her an acorn like 'call me ;)' and diana my love just, THROWS the acorn to julian and emma and goes 'do w that whatever u will' and acts like she doesnt care and when they call on gwyn he comes to help nd immediately goes '...THAT WASNT FOR YOU but ig i'll help bc ur the magnificent lady's brats :/'

saturday, may 4 — miscellaneous 141 hobbies during dwell time

╭ soap: hes an energetic man through and through.

hes constantly doodling and journaling. johnny likes to write down what hes doing during the day to keep a clear head. also, why not use the time he has off to draw what he likes? neighbors may commission him for small works of art to keep around their house.

he also owns a podcast! while he doesnt have the largest fanbase, he, as mentioned, likes to just relax and go over what he did for the day. many would think he just likes to hear the sound of his voice, but in reality, its a way to calm down and clear his head!

hiking as well. he just has a lot of energy and needs to get it out one way or another — so he uses the extra energy to observe nature in a hike!

ghost: his hobbies have to be that of an old man.

he maintains a lovely garden! full of lush vegetables or colorful flowers, simon likes the idea of caring for something helpless. often times, he'll donate extra crops to the local businesses or markets; getting praised by the thankful women and men that know him by name.

birdwatching is something he picked up pretty early on. he believes it keeps his memory sharp and his observation skills and patience keen. maybe he has soap draw them for him, who knows!

him playing with dominoes is so funny to me. simon is bent over the table, stacking a line of dominoes with the patience of a saint. well, until he knocks the longest line over and swears under his breath.

gaz: he likes to be productive and keep busy!

he cooks, its a known fact! when he isnt busy with work or other hobbies, he'll happily scramble up a four course meal — kyle is always happy to share his cod fish with the shaky street cats outdoors.

kyle goes to sculpting and painting classes. hes no artist, but it keeps his attention. he really enjoys using his hands to make something nice, and doesnt mind the mess left behind.

beekeeping. pretty boy is not afraid of bees, and gets yummy honey, all from being calm and caring to the fuzzy bumblebees he nurtures in his backyard.

╰ price: he probably has generic man hobbies.

fishing is his go-to. he can name most fish he catches, and can get the fish off his hook in the matter of seconds. perhaps gets gaz to cook them? all i know is he definitely shows off to his neighbors.

price goes to his bookclub! full of confident women that happily engage in his opinion on their monthly book options. he actually gives very detailed opinions on parts he likes and gets really psychological.

pottery is only when he gets bored. despite the roughness of his hands, he can create really nice vases! keeps a couple at his home, and offers the rest to the ladies in the bookclub.

So im playing the Sims3 and i have this file i just named Horsegirl because the whole premise is that this lady is going to start a long line of award winning horse riders and such but anyway she started with 2 horses a black one and a Clydesdale.

So when i play the sims i turn the lifespans waaaay up they still age and die but i like to to take things slowly but for some reason it would reset it for my pets sometimes so my Clydesdale (Named Clydes Dale) aged up to elder on accident which is really annoying since he cant be studded anymore. I keep him around though since im try to befriend a unicorn and you need to be 3 BFFs with 3 creatures and i have 3 horses so no need to sell him or anything.

So i get my unicorn and he is cool im going to use him and my champion mare to make basically perfect horses for selling and more unicorns for actual racing. They have a foal, my mare has already had a foal im keeping for my sims son William to ride as his horse and he is a really pretty horse and was born with max jumping. So now i have like five horses which is A LOT so i start thinking about what i want to do with Clydes Dale. He takes up a lot of space and while he can be ridden and taken to races i just have better horses at this point.

So while im thinking about this a burglar comes on to my property and enters my pasture. This pisses off Clyde since he is brave and it also pisses off my sim since she is also brave so Clyde is running around and my sim comes into the pasture and beats up the burglar. Turns out the burglar was her friend! This woman even went to her sons birthday party! The betrayal... so we send her running but im like wow realistically this probably would have been very dangerous for Clyde and for lore purposes i aged him up so he would die. This is better then selling him because i get his little gravestone so he can come back as a ghost.

So to my sims this burglar came onto the property and upset the horses so bad one of them died so she is an enemy now. Most of my sims were devastated by the loss but then immediately got over it when the new foal was born smh the two most devastated sims were William which makes sense because he was an animal lover and just a teen and the Unicorn which doesnt make sense because my mare was actualy Clydes sister so you would think she would be more upset but no. The unicorn handled his depression via eating all of the available hay and setting things on fire.

Anyway it think this is an accurate portrayal of an equestrian lifestyle so far/s

file 13 intro

i wont say that f13 is my main project but it is the one curently iotting my brain the most as the kids say. so this piost wll be an introduction to it!

premise:

the story follows the a southern Ohio branch of the federal bureau of paranormal investigation, a secret government organization tasked with concealing the paranormal and dealing with any paranormal issues that may arise.

inspirations:

the magnus archives, the scp foundation, men in black (as a concept, not the tv show or whatever), welcome to night vale, 1984 by George Orwell, the lore podcast by Aron manke, various urban legends, folklore, and ghost stories ive heard over the years.

a not about the positions at the fbpi- usually relatively few people are employed, and many people do things that arent traditionally part of the job- theres no janitor- everyone keeps their workspace clean, etc. basically if something needs done, the most qualified person does it.

cast at a glance: (hopefully they'll all get their own post in the future.)

Simon knight- the typist for the branch. computers don't always mesh well with the paranormal, so f13 keeps physical record of everything, and Simon is the guy that gets the reports written up. he doesnt conduct interviews, but he does make transcripts of them. he writes things in shorthand on site and then types them up with a type writer. the manuscript is eventually bound into a book and archived. Simon inst a particularly ranking official, but hes effectively second in command because hes the hardest working/ williams favorite.

Noah Zhu- Noah is the only specific field agent- as in that's his job title, he takes along which ever coworker wants to go (or whoever loses a coin toss or draws the shortest straw or whatever). he actually likes his job, and takes all the photos for the archives, reports etc.

Avery bell- i stated before that technology is fickle for the paranormal investigators. fortunately Avery is an expert in dealing with haunted electronics. she is the tech department for the fbpi, and spends a good deal of her time playing solitaire on her computer instead of working.

daisy- daisy is an intern, and divides her time between the various employees helping out and learning the ropes.

Parker- Parker is the archivist, and keeps the library in order and maintained. its his job to pull resources as needed to compare past cases to current issues etc.

William Frazier- director. William is in charge of the office, and everyone answers to him. its worth noting most people go to Simon first and then the William. William is the oldest buy a good bit and generally a father figure (specifically to Simon) whether he knows it or not.

Charlotte and Celia chance- i’m grouping these to fine ladies together because they have the same job and do everything together (they're married). Charlotte and Celia work in billing and finances, where they've worked as long as anyone can remember. they're blunt and at times a bit intimidating, but they are well loved and respected because they've worked there for so long.

this is a very brief intro and i could go on and will- just not here. if anything is confusing feel free to ask! some of the characters don't have last names yet, but i’m aware of it and working on it.

Empresses in the Palace ep 13

I really like bestie Meizhuang's practicality and no-nonsense style. Too bad she's definitely gonna die (since her name isn't Zhen Huan). Honestly, she and ZH should be the perfect team: ZH is the right amount of paranoid and distrusting, bestie is more pessimistic and calculating. But I think the flaw is, they're too permissive of each other. I mean, they give advice but aren't adamant and demanding about it. If you're really gonna say you're sisters, BE BOSSY ABOUT IT. smh

Tapping in Ling Rong was smart. I never agreed with them not keeping her close.

Poor Fourth Prince. It's both a terrible idea to get associated with a kid the emperor hates... and I wish Zhen Huan could afford to openly care about him. Seems like a good kid.

ZH loosening up when she thinks no one is watching and being playful with her maid is THE SADDEST THING because you are struck that this is the real her. And she has to hide this person at all times and walk a tightrope in the proper concubine act. Even with Meizhuang she is all politeness, isn't so free & easy.

Meet cute with the real Prince Guo. Except this is a horror story, so no such thing. "You must not tell this to anyone. Otherwise, I'll have no burial ground for my body."

I love the old consort. She just straight up leaves the party all, 'I've seen enough drama in my day. Too tired for all this bullshit.'

If she can see it clearly, why can't the emperor? tbh I think he can too. It just doesnt threaten or affect him so he doesn't care.

Hell workplace dinner where everyone is drinking bored, so they've ganged on someone for entertainment. Everyone is salivating at the spectacle of the protagonist embarassing themselves. So of COURSE protagonist will shock everyone with their Secret Special Skills™. It's a very cliche trope but I think most viewers would have to admit that WE LOVE IT. We all eat this shit up with a spoon.

Ep 14

IM SCREAMING. Hua Fei, I pledge fealty. Marry me. "Consort Fleur, what is the matter with you?" Wavering, coughing, making indigestion faces: "I have no greviance over anything. I lost my composure because I was overcome with emotions watching Lady Sourire's performance." The emperor keeps being like, oh REALLY babe but you're basic. When did you start liking poetry? and babygirl puts her whole pussy into it. 👏👏 Girlboss gaslight gatekeep.

ZH really out here eager to co-parent with Meizhuang and ready to rush back from kissing the emperor's ass. I know she legit was into him (why??) at the start but I feel like reality has set in and she's just playing the part now. She's drawing her and Meizhuang's names together with a heart in her Lisa Frank notebook and planning how to spend their golden years together after they pop out a couple kids.

Hua Fei, the light of my life, breaks down the politics of it all. She's very savvy and will be a near impossible opponent to defeat - unless, of course, you have the protagonist halo. or if bro starts losing battles.

Empress pops in to remind us that being the CFO also sucks. Endless, tireless smiling and benevolence. You can't even throw a coquettish tantrum or two for the luz.

The ghost of the empresses's sister that the emperor loved most lingers yet again. Did the empress kill her sister? The thunder & lightening say yes.

The mess with Ling Rong's dad and the pull of Hua Fei's brother great examples of how the harem struggles aren't really about 'a bunch of sad women fighting over a man'. Being in the harem is entering a circle of power and influence. Yes, the concubines aren't supposed to 'discuss state affairs' but that's a rule made to be circumvented. Pleasing the emperor can make him reward your noble family and factions of the harem are connections within powerful noble families. Because Ling Rong is there, even though the emperor doesn't remember her name she has strings to pull. Whether it works out this time for her, it's a recourse she wouldn't have otherwise. And Meizhuang is able to go straight to the emperor's residence and get an update on the situation and counsel from the head eunuch. They have influence and control beyond what other citizens have.

[of course, we can't forget the prize for this hunger games is the biggest of them all -- NO, not some royal dick, but having your kid be the next emperor. Putting your family in the history books forever as part of the dynasty. Potentially changing history.]

[that's why I don't mentally categorise Story of Yanxi Palace as a harem drama. That's the setting, true, but Yingluo enters of her own will and it's due to her revenge quest. She isn't advocating for or protecting her clan and has zero intent to climb the ladder, but is acting in revenge of her sister, then her sworn sister empress, then her bestie. Then she inadvertently falls in love with her frenemy emperor (of all things!) and wants to accompany him, despite her terror of childbirth. She has no interest in the throne for herself, her clan, or her kids. She's playing the game all the wrong way, because she's not playing it at all - her goals aren't aligned to anyone else's. That is the delight of Yanxi Palace; she's dropped into everyone else's harem drama with a metaphorical sword on her back, the unpredictable engine of chaos in this carefully choreographed dance of waxing and waning power & influence.]

Empress really shows off her skills in this episode. No one actually knows how hard she tried for Ling Rong's dad but she has the position to get away with advocating, without losing much. And she gets their gratitude and steers them towards fighting my gf Hua Fei in her stead. Empress was the biggest winner in this incident.

ZH on her way there, as she expertly manipulates the emperor by commenting on state affairs without actually directly discussing them. She's smart to be hiding the depth of her education and only bringing it out when necessary.

Damn she's really playing the "you're my ✨husband✨" card for all it's worth. And we can see that, for now, it's worth a lot.

The maid making the play for the emperor's interest with the lotus blossoms is the Soon to be Evil half-sister, right?

i fr have no idea whats going on in pentiment. prior ferenc is shady as hell but i dont think he'd kill the baron bc like. if youre going to get in trouble for.. tng update time!! we're back, baby. sunday we did "the masterpiece society" and "conundrum" and last night* we did "power play" and "ethics."

*by last night i mean earlier tonight, but i'm typing this at 1am and letting it post tomorrow

the masterpiece society: this one was okay. i was very endeared at first to this guy flirting RESPECFULLY with deanna after the ordeal of 3 rape scenes in one episode but then she shot him down and he kept flirting. WILL my misery never cease

that said, i like that picard was nice to her when she fessed up about fucking with him. i am so fond of saying "treat him really niceys" about data but perhaps we should also be treating DEANNA really niceys. instead of raping her repeatedly.

one hilarious detail i noticed about this episode was that they went out of their way to show us a lot of extras in this episode (sometimes we don't even get this many extras in ten forward scenes) and show us that the extras were. diverse. because if the society is "genetically engineered to perfection." and then you only show white people. THAT puts a whole new spin on things. i'm imagining some joker on the production team looking at a shot of mostly-white extras and frantically calling the casting director on the phone

i was EXTREMELY worried when they asked geordi to work with this woman but he was professional the whole time to my huge relief. actually, geordi had a little bit going on in this ep that i really enjoyed - when these "perfect" people kept implying he would have been aborted as a fetus in their society he gave as good as he got EVERY time and his blind ass DID in fact wind up saving all their lives and GOOD FOR HIM!

i dont really get what the big deal is about 23 people leaving = destroying their society. if you can't plann for people being out then it's your managerial skills that need work. also, they were kinda freaks, so maybe they needed to have their little cult broken up. sorry

conundrum: EPISODES FOR MEEEEE. this episode was just like tabula rasa, except this predates tabula rasa, so really tabula rasa is just like IT. anyway, amnesia. i was gleefully rubbing my hands together the entire time

hands down funniest bit was everyone just assuming worf is captain despite the fact that he's bloodthirsty and insane but the second funniest bit was data the bartender. "where's the android?" "serving drinks in ten forward." "[as data speed types] you must have been one hell of a bartender." 10/10 no notes

also his little chess game with deanna!! wah.

actually no the other funny bit was riker lowkey running around on deanna with ro. and i abslutely LOOOVED he and deanna being flirty with each other. it's ABOUT TIME we got some real food. it's been so sexless up til now that all she did was play with his hair a little and we both went bananas

and then the scene at the END? riker more flustered than we've EVER seen him and these two ladies ganging up on him...mwah. 10/10 perfect.

the villain this episode was good. when he first showed up cathy was like who tf is that and i was like idk some rando im sure he doesnt matter but then the computer named him first officer and it was like !!!!!!!!!!!! they tricked me !!! it's a VERY rare day when tng manages to trick me i was so pleased. i do kinda wish they hadn't theo teennwolfed him though (made everyone else a bit dumber to make him seem smart)

power play: deannna was so hot in this episode she should play male characters more often

i really REALLY wish i had been riker deanna and worf that had been possessed. data's not as much fun when he's someone else and not data. obrien could have come too if he wanted though i guess

i wish guinan had been in this episode it's been ages and i miss her

after how tense and fun the beginning was the end and middle of this episode were kind of anticlimactic. still, it was fun and so it gets a pass. more people should get possessed on the enterprise

ok, first of all, sorry i have to go ahead and get this out of the way before i get to the good stuff, picard advocating for assisted suicide is NNNOT his best look. in fact it's literally such a fucking bad look. actually. uhh tw for talk of suicide here on down

i understand what they were trying to do. they wanted to present both sides of the ethical dilemma here "equally." but there are some problems with this. firstly, in the real world, assisted suicide is for people with like. terminal illness. worf was fine. yes, he was paralyzed, but he was healthy and had the change to regain a great deal of his mobility. so picard already looks like an asshole because he's advocating for a disabled person killing themselves because they "can't" adjust to the loss.

SECONDLY, the use of "can't" was very poorly done here. if picard had said, worf is too stubborn to change his beliefs, he WON'T adjust to this because he will refuse to try, that would be a LOT BETTER than saying "worf CAN'T adjust to this, it's too many lifelong values to change."

and finally, if we really wanted to be "equal" about the debate, it wouldn't be about worf's ability or inability to adjust to being disabled, it would be about his BELIEFS. like his society and heritage, which he cherishes so deeply because he felt disconnected from it for so much of his life. instead picard was just like "worf is way too much of a pussy to do this just let him die lmao"

like he seriously tried to persuade will to KILL WORF. worse, to help worf kill himself!! JUST BECAUSE WORF WAS DISABLED. he even guilted riker about it: "he wouldn't have asked if he didn't know he could count on you." girl what the FUCK

ok anyway, speaking of will: his reaction here was so strong i wonder if he knew someone who'd killed themselves before. NOT that i'm complaining about a strong reaction. FINALLY we are getting some solid worf/riker Content. maybe asking your commanding officer to kill you is romance or whatever. i loved their argument to little bitty pieces. compare to: riker in tears next to deanna's sickbay bed. ooough i am eating. according to the wiki they actually cut a scene of nose-to-nose yelling and i'm mad about it. LET THEM PUT THEIR FACES TOGETHER. give me something to live for

deanna in this episode too. her kneeling by the fallen worf and murmuring "let me help you." her making him talk to his son. him BASICALLY asking her to be his kid's new adoptive parent should he kick it

oh speaking of alexander. he said some really troubling things this episode. such as, "my mom always said klingons had dumb ideas about honor" and "i don't care about being klingon." HIS MOTHER WAS RACIST..............if alexander decides the klingon ways aren't for him that's fine but that should be a choice HE GETS TO MAKE what an insane way to be raised. meanwhile people are out here calling worf a deadbeat and he put aside his suicide plan for alexander specifically

other shocking things about this episode: beverly was sooooo good actually. she was channeling bones energy in her fury and i mean that as the highest possible compliment. that other doctor quite literally KILLED A PATIENT because she's so sketchy and focused on her own glory "oh i need tokeep a professional detachment" YEAH SO YOU DON'T FEEL GUILTY ABOUT KILLING PEOPLE. bones would have torn her limb for limb and i'm very glad beverly did too. i just don't understand why she was allowed to like leave the ship and go back to practicing medicine. she should have her medical liscene revoked. was this too also in the name of "both sides" of the debate girl this isn't fox news she KILLED A PATIENT for her own personal gain just space her ass!

the fake-out with worf dying was expected but them faking us out for so LONG was a surprise. i was like how are they gonna get him out of this one and it's literally the klingon anatomy. double of eeeeeverrrything. wow that sure is something. funny that worf has ridges on sooo many places. love that it took until season 5 to see it

also, that surgery scene was GROSS. im not normally squeamish but that little worm thingy they put into him looked awful

devastated there was no worf/riker reunuion at the end but other than that and picard and that other dr lady not getting fired it was extremely good. one of my favs so far i think actually.

'It Ends With Us' and its missed opportunity of using Plant symbolism

Okay so far I'm reading it ends with us by colleen from my plan on doing an iceberg where i review all of colleens books from most popular to the least/lesser known and see what similarities they all have and what it says about them. Having a read through 'it ends with us' (though not finished yet though I have seen a video from rachel oates who read it and described the events in detail), I already have issues with how its made from atlas, its queer representation, its poorly aged pop culture reference (that being Ellen de generous), how out of pocket privileged the characters are (with the main character already having a florist shop at 23 and having a rich lady come to her store and randomly decides to help her), how the story has no trigger warnings for a book on domestic violence and even sa at some point etc...Though what i will give it credit for is this line.

This line is of lily describing how plants function. You love them right, they grow to love you, if you don't live them right, you'll get nothing. This line in particular can be looked at in many ways like relationships humans have like when you love someone properly, they'll love you back, Whereas if you don't love them properly, they wouldn't feel the same way. The plants in question can also be a symbol for mental health in relationships as they give you 'rewards' that benefit both of you; Trust, honesty, authenticity etc. However, when if you don't love them the right way or neglect them, you will not get any of that trust, honesty or authenticity etc.

Plants also represent growth/balance, loving the plant the right way needs to be in moderation; meaning that you cant overlove (giving them too much water) nor underlove them (not watering them). Both of these can represent the toxic traits of a relationship, overlove being possessiveness, neediness, insecurity, trapping, lovebombing etc....while underlove being neglect, ghosting, non communication, silent treatment etc. Balance in a relationship requires communication, trust, honesty and viewing each others needs (as both overlove and underlove never view the others needs, only their one in oppose forms). This is also where growth comes in as when plants are loved in a balanced form, it grows to become a healthy plant till they grow old to die (symbol of healthy relationships/persons mental health) however, when their being loved in an unbalanced way (either overlove or underlove), then they die faster (both a symbol for relationship and persons mental health as the relationship progresses), although the plant may be dead, that doesnt mean it goes extinct as theirs plenty of more plants to grow by, representing healing from an unhealthy relationship.

I just wish their was more plant symbolism in the book especially with how its a major motif in the book (The main characters name, her career, her coping with anger by destroying tearing apart weed, the book covers being of flowers etc). Imagine her tearing apart weeds at the beginning to establish her emotions towards her father as ryle notices as he kicks a chair, both bonding over their coping mechanism with anger and the events that went through with their lives, making us see how lily fell for ryle (because i honestly couldn't see why she would besides his looks) from how he seems to understand and even empathize/support her even when it foreshadows his domestic violence towards her in the book. Imagine instead of letters for ellen, their letters for her plants as she views these plants as her safe space, being open to telling them about her life and issues than her parents (from her parents themselves (specifically the father) having an abusive relationship) and would read or summarize her letters to them, maybe even keeping them vague in case either her parents or people who might tell on her to her parents of what she says to them. This can establish on her being a vulnerable teenager relying on plants as her support system at home, seeing how it makes her exploitable to atlas (because if he still exist and the age gap is still gonna be there, you might as well paint it for what it truly is; creepy and predatory) and see how it all carries to her into adulthood (maybe her thinking how these big age gaps are okay or how she falls the trick these guys use of supporting her vulnerability when their actually doing it to use her). Imagine instead of the flower shop being this 'deathly, cool anti flower shop', it was a regular flower shop from the get go until her relationship with ryle, seeing how the flower shop slowly resemble her mental health, this generic but cozy shop turned into a more depressed, muted and an all around shadow of itself, representing her mental health decreasing and her identity slowly being lost the more shes with ryle from his abuse. And imagine towards the end where she leaves ryle for good, she takes away the dead plants as she waters the new ones (alone, with a support system or her daughter) in the right amount, symbolizing of her on a journey to healing. With a support network, you can have them talking about their experiences as the plants start to slowly grow or her with her daughter, using the dialogue of how plants function before as a metaphor to teach her daughter that she should both be loved the right amount and to love people the right amount. All of these would show the cycle breaking in favor of healing from the pain that comes within it.

Plant symbolism could've helped the book convey a powerful message of breaking the cycle of abuse in both a technical and/or (at least) in an artistic standpoint, but it doesn't which is really a shame.
