while it's evident that byan is quite desensitized to violence (and in fact very much enjoys it), they're also... pretty desensitized to death. having witnessed people meet violent ends first-hand, as well as spending enough time in drug dens and around other drug abusers to see more than just a couple overdoses for themself, it doesn't really faze them anymore. traumatizing the first few times it happened, to be sure, but that's precisely how they became desensitized — to cope with the things they'd witnessed, and the things they would inevitably witness again. it's caused them to become rather callous in regard to the lives of others, those they don't know enough to care about and those they dislike, and to not really blink when they hear news of someone dying. they'll just sort of shrug it off and go about their day, if not mutter a little "good riddance" for those they held a distaste for. it also plays a part in them not being afraid to do some serious damage to people in fights — they won't try to kill someone (unless they have to), but if they end up dying later to wounds they themself inflicted... eh, not their problem. it's obviously that person's fault for not getting that shit patched up.

I typed this earlier on discord so it's messy but big and there's a bit more now so it'll all go under the cut :]

We just came up with them like today so there isn't a whole lot but I'll add to the thread as we come up with more anyways they worked with silco for a decent amount of time not really knowing what the fuck they were doing because they just wanted to do something and didn't really care how it impacted anyone so they didn't pay attention a whole lot and treated it kind of like busywork but at one point they were like . shit . and decided that they had to not do this but the problem was that they didn't really know how to leave and not face consequences so they stayed around for another month or so before there was a lab explosion while they were working on smth and it was just them there so they realized that this would be the perfect (and probably only) opportunity to dip so (like a dumbass) they left without taking care of any of their injuries and their somewhat deluded self decided that it was a good idea to leave the undercity entirely and they passed out a few minutes after they got there (obviously) and woke up in the hospital (obviously) because funny thing is it just so happened that there was an explosion at a mansion or whatever the fuck it was from ep 1 nearby so everyone assumed that this was just some random guy caught in the crossfire so anyway fast forward a bit and they find out about Hextech beginning to become a thing and is like holy shit I need to do THAT and sneak in using totally legal methods and is just like "hi !! I'm doing this with you now!! how does it work how did it start" and the only reason that they aren't immediately kicked out and arrested or smth is that they're actually really good at this shit because they're donnie and they're recognized as that random guy from the news who got exploded a little bit (also the stuff on their mask is just paint I liked how it looks so I kinda went with it) and I think that's it for now

They're so unhinged and just get themself into situations™️

The government is p stupid so I think this could work out somehow

-their goggles aren't actually goggles !! The top parts are detachable and prety easily break in order to release the liquid inside which gives it the color and is highly corrosive so if they ever get into a bad spot they can just fuck someone up

-They're aware of the fact that their clothing is way too fucking big but they refuse to get things that actually fit them . Even in the lab they wear their regular attire (yes it is a hazard . They've been told . They do not care)

-the most normal person who is definitely from topside no lies 100% real and true (they're from the undercity)

-this is technically a separated au because they're not aware of the fact that they have siblings for a while (like after they leave the undercity) although the others know that they exist somewhere but they don't know where oh and splinter is dead btw fjs

-Theyre not really used to fighting with weapons, most of the fights they're in/have been in are hand to hand but when they do use weapons they usually go for shit that you can throw and that hurts a lot because it's the most affective and that's all they really care about

-because of this their fighting style is really chaotic they are entirely unpredictable to people who haven't seen them before but there's a method to their madness although as soon as they start carrying corrosive liquid on their person people leave them alone for the most part fhks

-they barely ever sleep and the amount of times they they've passed out in front of research and whatnot is countless

-they did stay with silco for a bit after they realized that this is fucked up actually not only because they couldn't leave without basically faking their death if they didn't want consequences but also because the little shreds of validation that they got were literally everything without someone present to give them that they're even worse than regular rise donnie

-They're thirteen about to turn fourteen when they start working with silco and they're fifteen when they "die" and leave to topside . they itty bitty

-also YES they do have a techbo and YES it is equipped with many explosives and whatnot and there's even more after they leave silco because they're paranoid a little bit

I would have loved to see more interactions with the seelies- people who can’t lie but are crafty and secretive sounds fascinating. Think of the dialog! Alec going to magnus for advice since he has centuries of experience talking to them, Alec playing mental chess while trying to maintain peace. Would have loved getting more- but let’s be real, Cassaundra and the show writers weren’t clever enough to actually make any conversations like that of value.

SAME!!!!! honestly i would have loved to see so much more of the seelies. like bro do you understand that their culture predates the VERY EXISTENCE OF HUMANITY??? they are the ONLY kind of downworlders whose culture is completely detached from any human culture, not only because of predating it, but also because of the relative isolationism - which means human culture barely had any influence on their culture and history AS it developed

so like you can literally go fucking bonkers??????????? you can make ANYTHING. they have a whole ass society that doesn't have to have ANY ties to mundane concepts or history AT ALL. complete creative freedom. you could do ANYTHING! and don't get me started on the potential this has, within storytelling, to contextualize a lot of stuff modern western culture sees as natural or timeless as actually pretty fucking specific - like monogamy, cisheteropatriarchy, the gender binary, racism. all immortals have that potential of course since they can come from an array of different cultural and historical backgrounds but seelies in particular have SO much potential that is NEVER! FUCKING! USED! it all goes to waste and they are just a generic vaguely monarchic society that behaves literally exactly as modern western cultural standards. WHY. i'll never stop being salty, especially within sh where all this potential was there and instead they just villainized the seelies like no tomorrow for nO FUCKING REASON, and included a whole plotline about their ruler being a terrible power-hungry person and then proceeded to act as if that would have no influence on the seelies under her rule? thanks for nothing

like i know the seelie queen was so badly written that her own motivations even as a power-hungry wacko didn't make sense or were consistent (like why give simon the mark of cain for example, and for god's sake what kind of power-hungry crazy bitch gives their main enemy the power to literally kill her and destroy everything she has at the blink of an eye, like??? she literally tried to assist in her own genocide, it makes no fucking sense, i fucking hate it here) but if they are going to make her Terrible the least they could do was show how that impacted the people under her rule, especially if they are going to have meliorn be fucking tortured and either forced to display the marks of said torture or choosing to display them themself, like? please give your plotlines one singular thought

but of course it's easier to villainize seelies and reduce them to their obviously tyrannical ruler so they can go back to focusing on the shadowhunters and their issues. nevermind the fact that seelies are obviously equivalent to native ppls/third world countries resisting colonialism/imperialism in sh's stupid ass racial metaphor, which makes making their ruler a big bad unequivocally evil villain that is ruining everything A Choice. and a particularly choicy Choice considering they cast a middle-eastern man to play the most important seelie character. but if they are going to do that they could at least address how the people under her rule suffer and how that's a direct consequence of shadowhunter colonialism and interference, but why would we fkcnig thdo that!!!! when we can have love triangle drama or whatever

and tHEN there is the whole aspect of being unable to lie which is bound to have such an impact on their culture and history since they have to rely on other forms of communication to protect themselves - and considering the whole "tyrannical rule" plotline, to further the queen's agenda in the first place. and how telling the truth without preamble would probably be considered a huge display of trust in a society that has culturally developed so many ways of talking around things. like again the potential of the cultural and historic background for that society! it makes me go insane!!!

anyway all of that to say #JusticeForSeelies and #SeeliePlotlinesNow 2021 and forever. and YES i would have loved to see more interactions between them and other characters, particularly magnus because 1- admittedly i'm a hoe; and 2- magnus was clearly the one that had the most experience talking to seelies and that others relied on for that communication. he also seemed to be the most comfortable with them, which indicates there is either some sort of history there, or magnus just happens to feel relatively at home with the workings of their culture. which makes sense, because magnus also had to develop pretty similar defense mechanisms due to his, A- work as a warlock representative who has to interact with shadowhunters on the regular; B- history with having to deal with asmodeus, which required him to be very smart about what he disclosed and how, especially considering that he had to have been planning banishing asmodeus for a long time before he got to do it; and C- just history with abuse in general. we've seen the way he closed his heart off to new people; but at the same time, magnus is obviously an extrovert and likes to be around people in general. this meant that, in order to be able to both be in the kind of environment where he thrives and protect himself/his heart/his feelings, he had to learn how to interact with people while putting on a convincing façade, which requires pretty much the same sorts of wordplay and defense mechanisms that seelies use

magnus is good at wordplay, he's good at using talking to his benefit; we've seen that. he is also good at hiding and deflecting. he is notably not good at directly lying - every time he directly said A Lie such as "i am perfectly fine and not bothered by this at all :)" it was way less convincing than it was a clear display that he wouldn't budge. even alec, who has difficulty with social cues, noticed the lying and seemed concerned about it. so like. clearly his defense mechanisms were less lying and more dancing around subjects, directing conversation to safe topics, and guiding people to making certain assumptions and seeing sides of his that were safer and he preferred

so in that way it makes sense that magnus is somewhat in his element when dealing with seelies. i think "comfortable" is a strong word because this whole song and dance takes a huge toll on anyone's mental health and energy (which i think is something that could be very interestingly explored in seelies, their collective psyche, and their culture, the way they build relationships, etc. let meliorn have partners they feel 100% comfortable talking without preamble with 2k21), but it's something he is used to and a dynamic he can fall into without as much effort as others who would be second guessing themselves more and going slower, which clearly gives the seelies, who are used to it, an advantage

and like i know that i'm implying a confrontation or sort of situation where they are on opposing sides to seelies here, which i kind of am because i am thinking mostly about magnus' interactions with the seelie queen specifically, since she was the seelie he had the most meaningful interactions with. his interactions with meliorn were very few and almost never relevant, i barely remember them happening outside of generic downworld cabinet interactions tbh. but i don't just mean that because again, stop villainizing seelies 2k21

i also mean just generally that magnus would be in a more comfortable position talking to seelie strangers and slowly working into building a relationship and mutual trust. and just generally understanding them and the workings of their culture because he can empathize with the way they have built their social defense mechanisms. no one is 100% truthful to strangers, but seelies always seem kind of- analytical. and the cultural difference + anti-seelie racism makes them seem untrustworthy to most people, but magnus Gets It, so the potential for friendships! and the mutual understanding and the relative comfort around each other! and both parts understanding the enormity that is letting their walls down gradually and being more direct as time goes by. like.... aaaaaa

and yes magnus becomes a sort of reference on talking to seelies, mostly because he is good at "playing their game", but also making it a point to humanize seelies and making the other parts understand where they are coming from and how they feel :) and just improving their relations, particularly with other downworlders

im not going to get into alec because 1- the relationship between shadowhunters and seelies is already filled with oppression and a lot of complications, and particularly now that the seelie realm is politically fragile due to the loss of their ruler (however terrible she might have been), it would play into either white savior narratives or just straight up colonialism, especially given how alec as a leader already has a history of trying to build tutelage over downworlders (i don't care what his intentions were, it's still true, and although he's learning... well. he's learning, continuous action); 2- that would be more a relationship of opposition and i'm not that interested in that. but i would love to see seelies rebuilding themselves and their relationships and alliances with other downworlders particularly, and all the better if magnus is playing a part in that :)

Also when I post a request I've been working on, I'm closing requests for good (probably, idk I might change my mind and re-open them one day)

Y/n was getting annoyed from all the drunk people, the stench of cigarettes and the heavy smell of flowery perfumes mixed with colonges!

This fancy party altogether had become insufferable, making Y/n question why they even attended in the first place..but of course appearances are important when you're new in the hero scene!

'Tch! Appearances, status..like all you fuckers have nothing to hide!'

Y/n got up from the couch, making their way to the balcony, to get away for a bit

Everything felt so loud and they felt out of place!

When they finally managed to walk through the dance floor, filled with drunk, swaying bodies, they noticed that a man, around their age, was also out there!

Y/n sighed, while leaning onto the marble covered surface, preventing them from a fall, and took a sip from the stong, orange liquor in their glass!

From their peripheral vision, they could see the man downing his own drink

"Bad day?" Y/n asked the rather attractive man, nonchalantly

"More like, bad life" He bluntly responded

He came closer to where Y/n was standing

They started talking, getting to know each other a little, just to realize that they hadn't shared an important detail...their names!

"I'm Katsuki by the way" He gave a smirk full of pride

"I'm Y/n! Dynamite right? I've heard a lot about you!" They smiled while scanning his appearance

He looked ravishing in a suit!

His shirt defining every muscle that he's worked so hard to build!

Of course being the fiery person he is, Bakugou wasn't wearing a tie and had left a few buttons open

His wild ash blonde hair, was styled in spikes as usual

'Hmm he looks like he doesn't give a fuck..I like him'

"So, did you come here alone?" Y/n asked him, getting curious

"They look fun" Y/n snickered while watching them

"I came alone, but they came with me?" He rolled his eyes and gestured at a group of young heroes

A red head had hardened his whole body and was getting zapped by an electric blonde, while a raven haired guy was trying to stop them, getting electrocuted in the process and making a beautiful pink woman burst into laughter!

"I guess. Who did you come with?" Bakugou's gaze returned on Y/n

"No one" They simply said, getting a nod of understanding from him

"Do you have a partner?" Bakugou asked casually

"Normally I work alone" Y/n took a gulp of their glass

"I'm asking if you're single dumbass!" He chuckled in amusement, his eyes trailing along their form

"Hm? Bold of you to assume anyone likes me!" Y/n laughed it off

"What about you?"

"Do I look like I have time for that shit?Besides..my last girlfriend died" He said bluntly, gazing at the view in front of him

"I- I'm sorry I didn't mean-" Y/n's words were cut short by Bakugou

"No, it's ok. I don't mind.." He assured "I had to talk about it to the media a lot, I'm used to it!"

"May I ask how?" Y/n asked him, a bit unsure if they had crossed some kind of line and upset him

Y/n turned to look at him, for any type of reactions or response..

"A villian" He replied, turning his head so that he can look at them, causing an intense moment of eye contact

"Oh..was she killed on duty?" Y/n questioned, feeling rather dumb, since the answer seemed pretty obvious

"Yeah, she was killed by what she loved most!" He said, turning his attention back to the view

"She must have been a great hero"

*After the party*

The duo ended up walking down the street, enjoying a stroll without needing to patrol for once!

They kept on walking under the dim streetlights, taking in the strong smell of the fresh, night air. Until...

"Huh, what was that?" Bakugou said, stopping dead in his tracks and staring into a dark alleyway

"I didn't hear anything, but let's be on our guard" Y/n said, following his actions

"C'mon, this way!" He told Y/n, taking their hand and leading the way

They went in the alley, stopping at the end of it, which actually was a dead-end?

"What are we doing here?" They questioned him, feeling uneasy and wary of this situation

"Don't worry...I'd say that I won't hurt you, but that would be a lie!" His voice was low and the way he towered over Y/n was intimidating

Bakugou pulled them in front of himself, bringing his hands up to their neck and wrapping them around it tightly!

"You know...you remind me of her!" He whispered, looking at them in adoration

Y/n's eyes widened, stomach dropping, heart sinking, all in fear for their life!

'Move! Do something! Use your quirk dammit!' They told themself, but it felt as if the shock had paralyzed them

"Don't even think about activating it, I'll blow your ass sky high" He threatened with a growl

Of course what they didn't know was that he was bluffing!

Bakugou is smart and strategic, he knew that activating his quirk would only bring attention to him and he'd be found out!

Besides he'd figured out a way to avoid all suspension..

He detached one hand from them, reaching into his pocket, pulling out a knife that resembled Toga's, slowly dragging the end of it up the side of Y/n's neck, then along their jaw halting just bellow their chin!

"You have that look in your eyes..the same exact look she had when she was in your position!" He smiled

"You lied" Y/n managed to breath out

"No, no. I did not lie, baby!" Was he really so much into this, that he saw them as his previous partner?

"I told you she was killed by what she loved most. You assumed I meant heroics, but..I'm what she loved most, she was addicted to my love!" He told them, while the grin on his face widened

"You're the villian!" Y/n's eyes sank in realisation

"NO! She was!" His grip tightened and the blade grazed Y/n's skin

"I thought she was as obsessed with me as I was with her, that she loved me as much as I loved her!" He leaned his forehead on mine, blade still in place

"But she betrayed me! All she wanted was intel!" He closed his eyes, while still in their face, as if he was savoring the moment

"I had clear orders to kill her and when I did..it felt so good! That way she would never hurt me again, she couldn't lie to me anymore, she couldn't use me!" He pulled away from Y/n, staring in their soul

"But you see..her plan failed and I caught her!" He smiled once more

"She attacked and when she saw it was me, she hasitated..but-" His face twisted into a psychotic grin and he laughed

"Something is missing" He said, slightly tilting his head, while frowning

"You should have seen her face! The fear in her beautiful eyes, the surprise written on her face, as if to say she would never expect me to do that! I could almost hear her rapid heartbeat"

The way he spoke about these terrifying things was laced in adoration and love!

Y/n could have sworn the blood had frozen in their veins

"You're sanity! That's what's missing!" Y/n spat

"Hah, you're even acting the same! It's that day all over again!" He sounded so excited, it was disturbing

"Say you love me" He demanded, voice stern, with an ice cold glare to match it

"No" As soon as the word escaped Y/n's lips, Bakugou's hand heated up on their skin

"Tell me you fucking love me!" He commanded once more, hand tightening it's grip on their neck

Y/n's eyes squeezed shut, subconsciously, at the sudden action!

"I-I love you" They choked out in a whimper

"I love you too baby" He whispered

"Please, don't kill me!" They begged

"I'll kill you as many times as I need to baby! Until there's no trace of you left!" He mused, withdrawing the blade from their skin, leaving a kiss at the spot

He stabbed Y/n right through their heart! Blood trailing from the wound like a river and some spilling from their mouth!

He slid the hand that was on Y/n's neck, to their mouth, getting blood all over it!

He put his bloodied hand on his shirt, right where his heart is, and smeared it, staining his clothes with their blood!

Y/n could feel their soul being drained from them, trying to claw it's way out of their body!

Bakugou twisted the blade, before pulling it out, letting their body hit the ground and a pool of blood to form around it!

The last thing he did, was look at their lifeless self, satisfied with his work!

Even if Y/n was found, the heroes would think this was the work of the league!

"My love" He looked up at the sky "I hate you! I'll see you in the next one" He laughed

Bakugou took off, quietly making his way to his residence, carefully dodging any heroes on patrol!

[Note: Firstly, I'm not an expert in Tarot, so not everything will be 100% correct (especially due to the fact that Tarot is highly symbolic). Secondly, I'm using the Rider Waite deck, so the characters I chose are mostly fitting the description of that deck.]

Now, let's get to the potential candidates and my reasoning behind them.

Card 1 — The Magician

Keywords of "The Magician":

• UPRIGHT: Manifestation, resourcefulness, power, inspired action, willpower, desire, creation, skill, ability, concentration

• REVERSED: Manipulation, poor planning, untapped talents, wasted talent, cunning, trickery, illusions, deception, out of touch

First of all, I need to explain some symbolism regarding this card. In this card the four suits of tarot are shown (wands, pentacles, cups, sword). Each one stands for one of the classical four elements (wands = fire , pentacles = earth, cups = water, sword = air) and represents how the Magician is a master of the elements ("he has all the tools (and elements) he needs to manifest his intentions into being"). This of course would translate to (elemental) glyph magic and a master of glyphs.

Candidates for "The Magician":

• Luz Noceda — Luz wants to be a witch aka a magic user. She rediscovered glyph magic and is very skilled in using glyph magic. Also, a snake is usally depicted in this card (which might be Luz's palisman).

• Eda Clawthorne — Eda is (or at least was) one of the most powerful magic users on the Boiling Isles. She was a master of all kinds of magic and currently learns glyph magic. Eda can also be deceptive and manipulative. Her plans aren't always the best, but she's still very cunning and skilled.

• Augustus "Gus" Porter — Despite his young age, Gus is a very skilled witch (especially or rather mainly in illusion magic). In "Through the Looking-Glass Ruins" he felt down and how he felt like he was useless and wasted his talent. Also in this episode, Gus started to use glyph magic which he could still used later down the line.

• Hunter — Hunter is a very skilled person, both physically and in regards to his magical abilities. He also can be manipulative and deceptive (as shown in his appearances so far). He is also interested in wild magic and knows about 'elemental magic used in the Savage Ages'. Not to mention the potential of him learning glyph magic.

• Philip Wittebane — Mostly for his potential as a character and the fact given that he must have learned some sort of magic (probably glyph magic) during his life on the Boiling Isles.

Card 9 — The Hermit

Keywords of "The Hermit":

• UPRIGHT: Self-reflection, introspection, contemplation, withdrawal, solitude, search for self, search for truth, inner guidance, being alone

• REVERSED: Loneliness, isolation, withdrawal, recluse, being anti-social, rejection, lost your way, returning to society

Candidates for "The Hermit":

• Eda Clawthorne — Eda lived a long period of her life in solitude and isolation. She had to do a lot of introspection in order to get where she is now. This card also sometimes represents a mentor figure and is sometimes considered the mature and wiser version of "The Magician".

• Hunter — Hunter is quite a lonely character that needs to do a lot of introspection. Also, he has potential to fit this card quite well.

• Philip Wittebane — Mostly for his potential as a character.

• "King's Father" — He seems to travel alone in a chariot, so the descriptive term 'hermit' does seem to fit. This card often depicts a star which fits the astronomical symbolism found in King's orginal home. There is also a lot of potential for him as a character. (We really don't know much about this guy, so he's kinda a wild card.)

Card 11 — Justice

Keywords of "Justice":

• UPRIGHT: Justice, fairness, truth, cause and effect, law, clarity, karma, consequence, honesty, integrity

• REVERSED: Unfairness, lack of accountability, unaccountability, dishonesty, injustice, retribution, corruption

Candidates for "Justice":

• Augustus "Gus" Porter — Gus is a very juste and morally good character as we see in "Through the Looking-Glass Ruins". He has a very explicit moral compass in that episode, though he isn't flawless in that regard as shown in "Something Ventured, Someone Framed".

• Warden Wrath — He works as an enforcer for the Emperor's Coven.

• The Coven Heads — Mostly for their potential as a characters.

• The Emperor's Coven — They are basically the police system of the Boiling Isles, just extremely corrupt and founded/controlled by Emperor Belos.

• "Statue of Hekate" (S1E19)

Card 12 — The Hanged Man

Keywords of "The Hanged Man":

• UPRIGHT: Pause, surrender, letting go, new perspectives, sacrifice, release, martyrdom, waiting, uncertainty, lack of direction, contemplation

• REVERSED: Delays, resistance, stalling, indecision, needless sacrifice, fear of sacrifice, avoiding sacrifice, disinterest, stagnation, standstill, apathy

Candidates for "The Hanged Man":

• Augustus "Gus" Porter — Gus did sacrifice quite a bit during his episodes like "Something Ventured, Someone Framed" and "Through the Looking-Glass Ruins". In the latter episode, he expressed the desire to learn new kinds of magic.

• Raine Whispers — Raine sacrificed themself for Eda in "Eda's Requiem" and created the BATS, a resistance movement against the Emperor. So, they fit quite well.

• King — Mostly for his potential as a character.

• Hunter — Mostly for his potential as a character (e.g. Titan Sacrifice Theory).

• The Bat Queen — Mostly for her potential as a character.

• "King's Father" — Mostly for his potential as a character.

Card 15 — The Devil

Keywords of "The Devil":

• UPRIGHT: Shadow self, attachment, oppression, addiction, obsession, dependency, excess, powerlessness, limitations, restriction, sexuality

For people who do not have much knowledge of tarot and this card, I should explain something. This card does NOT stand for a literal devil or an evil person. The most common and basic description for the card is about an unhealthy bond with someone or something that's (usually) not for the greater good like an addiction, an obession or a toxic relationship. This card also symbolizes instant gratification, even if it is at the expense of your long-term well-being.

Candidates for "The Devil":

• Hunter — Hunter has clearly a very unhealthy bond with Emperor Belos. This is especially shown in "Eclipse Lake" and how badly the relationship to Belos affects him (Hunter literally dug his own grave due to the negative influence Belos had on his sense of worth). Also, both the upright and reversed keywords of this card do fit him quite well. He is a powerless witch that works for the restrictive and opressive Emperor's Coven and is dependent on Emperor Belos in regards to his own self-worth. And we know from "Hunting Palismen" that Hunter wishes some personal freedom and independence for himself (especially regarding his future). There is also the potential of Hunter's possible redemption arc in S2B and his breakaway from Belos.

• Emperor Belos — Emperor Belos is a dictator that causes a lot of opression and limitations on the Boiling Isles. His relationships with characters like Lilith, Kikimora and Hunter and his treatment towards them is quite unhealthy and even abusive. He himself is also very dependent on the essence found within palismen for his well-being. (So, most of the upright keywords fit him quite well.)

• Alador & Odalia Blight — Like Emperor Belos, Amity's parents are quite unhealthy people to be around (especially Odalia). This was shown in regards to their treatment of Amity. They also seem to be quite materialistic which this card can symbolize.

• The Titan — Mostly for his potential as a character and his design.

• "King's Father" — Mostly for his potential as a character and his design (a horned demon with wings).

Card 17 — The Star

• Augustus "Gus" Porter — Gus is a very positive character. And he has insecurities and he felt discouraged in "Through the Looking-Glass Ruins".

• Hunter — In "Eclipse Lake" Hunter is shown in his most despaired state so far, as well as his mindset in regards to one's purpose. He has also a lot of potential as a character.

there it is! kama interlude analysis by a kama fan!

WELL. LIKE IT SAYS IN THE TITLE: this is just my own thoughts!! youre free to think whatever u want !! i am just putting my own knowledge into words because i genuinely love kama, and i would like for kama’s depth to be understood by the NA fandom a little more!! i try to stay as close as possible to their character in everything i do because i believe that the more in character they are, the funnier/more interesting content ppl will produce. 

and hopefully i understood them well ???!!!! HOPEFULLY ?!

i will be screenshotting the translated reddit post under this read more and stop whenever something i find interesting to develop pops up ! or else it’ll get way too long lol if you wanna read the interlude for yourself heres the link!

with that said, let’s go!!

kama’s interlude begins with guda passing the hell out because of exhaustion and then waking up in a dream sequence where kama treats them to some relaxing adventures, stuff to take their mind off heavy things!! first dream sequence is kama roleplaying a highschool setting where they’re dating.

i like this because they openly admit that its an illusion, breaking the immersion but as long as youre okay with roleplaying, they’ll continue it LOL  at some point, caesar mentions the student council president and arjuna appears behind him 

since this is an illusion that kama made, i’ve been wondering about the fact that the way servants conduct eachother in this interlude is mostly because that’s how kama envisions they would act in a highschool setting, in an amusement park and finally with eachother (mostly for confirmed couples such as siegbryn, consort yu and her hubby etc...). suzuka and sei being gyarus is obvious, but arjuna as the student council president... is so cute???!!! i MEAN IT FITS ?! THATS A GREAT IDEA KAMA!!!! ANYWAY

this is kama’s first monologue and since they’re primarily the god of lust, all of the more vanilla stuff they mentions such as sharing a pair of headphones embarrasses them since its so tame. ITS CUTE !!! kama expects you to be horny in class !! what are you doing thinking about hand holding !!! medusa saves u from that tho with a direct reference to her relationship with kama’s vessel 

this is interesting !! and reassuring !!! i think that kama as a character has a lot of depth and just reducing them to “sakura” would be a waste and this interlude shows how different they are from her. but they’re also similar! sakura went through a lot just like medusa says and kama does have trauma related to shiva. its not the same circumstances but the same kind of suffering which explains the nuance here. and what i like about chaldea is that there’s been multiple instances where its been proven that servants can grow thanks to their relationships with guda (most common example: leveling up your bonds) BUT ALSO, saint graph evolution (alts). and as a kama fan i’d like to see them happy someday and this interlude as a whole is proof of their healing/coping because of the time they spent in chaldea and how they interact with others. more on that later ! here, they don’t recognize medusa which is normal since they’re not sakura (someone else entierly), but...

they care about her ! because of sakura’s influence being a part of the servant called Kama(assassin). the difference here is important !! but i’ll come back on this in a bit. quick mention to the greek cupid <3 kamadusa nation we were fed (i clap by myself because im the only one who has 57575757557 kama rarepairs-----)

kama is a delinquent whos horny in class but still takes a few notes, enough to do well on their tests! and thats tea<3 smart horny lazyass !! theyre a gift

SO ARJUNA WAS OUT FOR BLOOD ????? ANYWAY, this is right after the actual fight against weirdo terrorists, and im happy to know that kama DOES enjoy a good fight (as proven in their voicelines as well) but theyre not a farming unit because it’d be too much work (single target NP..)...!!!!!!! lavish god of love.... 

FINALLYYYYYYYYYYY THE REAL DEAL !!!!!!!!!!!! “it feels wonderful to be your girlfriend” christ, kamadeva was so used to being a husband and a good lover, it reflected in their servant version.... but ree what do u mean by servant version???

I MEAN THE OBVIOUS !! kama explains it very well in the screenie just above !

KAMA ASSASSIN (the servant in your chaldea) is neither KAMADEVA or SAKURA MATOU or MARA. they’re a MIX OF PARTS OF THE THREE. creating an entierly new person(in this case, servant) !!!! it might sound like i’m repeating myself, but this is important!!!!!!!!! i will say this multiple times so people remember it !!! and if u already had this figured out: GOOD JOB I LOVE U !!!

Kamadeva (the god) has many stories, ones where he was born from concepts (dharma and shraddha), one where his parents are brahma and sarasvati, one where his parents are vishnu and lakshmi, stories about his reincarnation after his death where his parents are krishna and rukmini, his love with Rati and so on. We all know Sakura’s backstory since this is nasuverse. And Mara is a demon, an entity that tried to corrupt Buddha and prevent him from reaching enlightenment/stray from the path. Kama assassin has parts from all of these entities which explains why they have a vague longing for Rati, why they have a soft spot for Medusa and why they have an affinity with Kiara(and also like talking about corrupting u !). 

they then mention how a japanese highschool setting is fun and all i have to say is: i’m gonna make an indo fam delinquent vs student council au out of this one folks !!!!!!!! i gotta !!!

well with their stage 1 it was expected but without the translation i have to say that i was scared shitless! because people hate thinking! and even if kama clearly tells you that it’s a charade, u know a JOKE. A DREAM SEQUENCE. DONT BE A CREEP. KAMA INTENDED FOR IT TO BE WHOLESOME. i know some ppl wont use their brains. but u know its fgo and degenerates are everywhere. 

anyways. family bonding time ensues until another monologue appears!!

exactly like before, kama mentions myths that belonged to kamadeva. Meaning that the Kama in our chaldea isn’t the Kamadeva we know and is not Pradyumna either but the fact that the writers chose to have kama acknowledge it is very reassuring !!! Because it means that they’ve chosen to make it a part of their (complicated) history. Kama says that Pradyumna is the myth about themself they know the least, once again proving us that the Kama in our Chaldea (Assassin) is a different entity and that they were summoned to the throne upon their death, the moment they were burned by Shiva’s flames and became Ananga, in any case they’re still familiar with all of their own myths. it allows us to keep heroic spirits separate from their original myths. Obviously! And in the case of pseudo-servants, it allows us to keep them separate from their vessels. Cuz this is a fanservice japanese game. Andddd the fandom likes forgetting this fact quite a lot i’ve noticed. As a person who loves thinking about tons and tons of headcanons for fun, this allows us a lot of space ! Because this is fate/grand order at its base. Nasuverse. 

I’m glad that the interlude explains it so clearly, it’s very good !! Because the majority of myths from every culture are confusing, family trees are confusing, names are confusing, powers and attributes are confusing... its a mess !!!! the fgo characters we know are just cut from their own respective timelines/historial figures so the writers can organize themselves more easily. Like cutting halves from a big cake. Kama (Assassin) is the Kama that died from Shiva’s flames and became the universe ONLY. In Nasuverse, Arthur Pendragon is a woman. Anastasia Romanov NEVER had a demon familiar named Viy in real life despite the creature being part of russian folklore. u know ! im russian i can testify dude !! 

hopefully everyone got this bc i wont be explaining this any further dude, its exhausting !!!!!! bangs my hands on the table !!!!! 

ANYWAYS kama mentions “eternal pain that turns [them] into ash” being their key element. Their trauma is at the center of their heroic spirit self, what they are as a servant. This suffering is tied to everything they do, why they’re so lazy, why they’re so lax, why they’re so detached from their job.  But they’re not detached from their role. And “job” and “role” have different connotations here. They refuse to work as a cupid because of obvious reasons. BUT. They’re not detached from their role as the God of Love, as the God of Passion. The embodiment of those feelings. This whole interlude is proof ! They’re giving u free therapy because they Love you. Passion. They feel your love. Passion. They acknowledge how much fun you’re having. How passionate you are about certain things. They might seem extremely detached and hateful, but they aren’t. They’re one of the most empathetic servants there is. And their ability to love everything, even the things they hate is what makes them so miserable. Because it’s a part of them. Because the concept of Kama in hinduism is linked to them. Be it lust or simply the passion born from anything you do where you’re enjoying yourself. (quote:  “ the term also refers to any sensory enjoyment, emotional attraction and aesthetic pleasure such as from arts, dance, music, painting, sculpture and nature “. R. ... I’d like to say that this contrast with Mara is interesting. And that i’m glad the writers chose to add in Mara to the kama assassin Beast mix. 

Because the anger Mara feels can become a drivepoint for Kama. I’ve always believed that anger and sadness are two sides of the same coin, it’d explain how layered Kama is and how valid their emotions are. Constantly torn between love and hate. An eternal grudge (i don’t deserve to be hurt like this) and an eternal misery(maybe i do deserve to be hurt like this). 

i wish they were my roommate <3 oh fuck ree got emotional wait where were we.

OH YEAH

i think kama saying that they dislike being involved with other indian servants because theyre linked to shiva is a feeble attempt at trying to keep up a strong front because they still love them in the end. cuz that’s how kama is ! after a while they’ll get bored of bullying ganesha and ashwatthama. they’ll get interested in rama because their respective mythos are linked even if their servant selves have no connection. hell, at the end of the interlude they talk about parvati and how they themself changed and realized things. BUT OH WELL, THATS STUFF FOR ANOTHER POST HEHE thats just ree wanting kama to b happy yall move along !!

ok this is interesting !! i think that the interlude showing us that parvati feels a semblance of guilt is character dev. proof for what i mentioned before!! in ookuu parvati felt quite ..unsympathetic to me, even if kama is a beast who wants to annihilate humanity, when u think about it, at their core their grudge is because of her and shiva’s betrayal. and here, she properly apologizes for making kama so upset. this is heartwarming to me since i dislike thinking that members of the indo fam hate eachother :( same goes for arjuna and karna, at some point i’d like for them to act like bros normally and finally be comfy. but anyways !!

this is actual proof of kama’s growth as a servant and how servants evolve in chaldea !! chaldea is not the same as a grail war, its a special, cut-off place and thats what makes it even more relaxing to think about. Everytime u summon a servant in ur chaldea u give them a chance to have fun with you, to have fun with other servants, to make amends, to start from scratch, to discover things they would’ve never known in their time (movies, video games, tons of different foods etc...), u give them a chance to relax. to grow !! this is the headcanon that im most attached to and im glad to see it be confirmed in the interlude of a character i love tbqh i had to stop and talk about that.

Love

A lot of Mahogany's view of love has always been rather religious and platonic. There was love from Old Alpha as she took care of them and taught them and Mahogany distantly knows that their mother loved them, but other than that, Mahogany has grown up on a pedestal placed by worshippers and the terrifying love of the Moder. Meeting Rhys and having a chance to make actual friends that aren't ancient worshippers means that Mahogany loves their friends deeply and will very much so do anything in order to protect and make their friends happy and feel loved.

Fears

Due to growing up coddled and kept away from most things, Mahogany doesn't exactly have a sense of what's dangerous and what isn't. After they get into the real world, Mahogany often will learn first hand why they need to be cautious over certain things, such as being hit by a car or being put into a bath of hot water (coughRhyscough). While it's useful for the fact that Mahogany isn't scared of small things like spiders or rats, Mahogany also doesn't really realise the danger that they can put themself and others into unfortunately.

Crying

Mahogany doesn't have enough water in their body to cry. Or more specifically, they don't actually have tear ducts (usually this means they just lick their eyeballs to wetten them). Instead Mahogany just makes loud nosies and copies crying, which can be more creepy than sad admittedly, or they simply curl into the corner and scratch things. Sometimes they scratch the walls and floor, but sometimes they scratch themself because at least then it feels like some sort of outlet when you can't make things pour from the eyes.

Laughter

Full anime cackle baby. Mahogany throws their head back and usually thumps their hands on the nearest surface and occasionally if it's REALLY funny they'll kick their legs out. Usually their tail forms and it starts wagging wildly and Mahogany will often keep grinning after they've laughed. They're the type of person whose favourite jokes are all about why the chicken crossed the road.

Dreams

Mahogany doesn't dream. The only time they do is if they're tapping into someone's head or if they're tired enough that they pass out. Mahogany only sleeps for a short amount of time and usually their dreams relate to the Moder still or tend to be useful memories being brought forth. Only rarely does Mahogany dream of their mother and they treasure those dreams of Robyn deeply.

Best friend

They didn't exactly have any real friends growing up since....no one was their age or at least stayed their age. But Mahogany probably would have said that Old Alpha was their best friend since she always sat with them, taught them, fed them and then Old Alpha would take them out to see the real world and play games with them. Mahogany considers Old Alpha their best friend for years until they meet Rhys or Abby and they become Mahogany's best friend.

Hair

Mahogany's hair is more connected to their nervous system than most, which is how they're able to feel things easily. Their hair grows rather slowly and it takes a few years for it to grow back once cut and it dulls some of their senses, much like how a cat struggles with some stuff once its whiskers have been cut off. Mahogany doesn't enjoy having their hair up in a bun or any tight styles as it cuts off some form of sensation and they tend to pull their hair out of it quote roughly. Also they love sniffing hair.

Hands

Rat hands. Mahogany has long nails that are jagged and more sharper so basically claws while their fingers are longer and much more thinner than a normal person's. Funny enough, Mahogany lacks the little wrinkles people have on their hands so...they've got really smoth hands to hold. Their hands have a lot of calluses and feel a bit more like cat beans from where their front hands shift into paws when in their Moder form. Likewise, their feet are harder and slightly curved in from how they shift into hooves.

Scars

Mahogany rarely takes scarring due to their powers making them denser and more detached from this reality, but when The Town burned down, it left a severe scar across their stomach up from their navel after they needed to find energy to survive their connection being snapped. Until they form another connection to build up power, Mahogany is more susceptible to being harmed and scarred, such as being shot or the other Jötun that harmed Rhys and admittedly Abby could scar them quite badly now if they were to get into a fight (especially since when meeting, Mahogany is quite deprived of physical and devine meals).

Family

Mahogany adores family. How could they not? Family has been everything for them growing up and it's the very place where power and home lies. Old Alpha was the one who started everything and Mahogany loves her more than life for years to come and still cries over her sometimes. And while they didn't know who their father was or where he went (Died immediately after Moder possessed his body to uh. Have the Build a Bear parts to make an heir), but Mahogany doesn't care. The only thing that's ever really bothered them is how little they remember their mother. All Mahogany has of Robyn is fuzzy memories of a soft voice and being kissed and heartbeats. When they're upset, Mahogany will tap surfaces at time in the same way Robyn's heart went.

Romance

Mahogany is all about romantic gestures once they get the idea of it! They go out and collect flowers, find things that they know their partner likes smelling or drinking and uh...collects the biggest kills they can get in order to seem more impressive towards their mate. Mahogany also starts grooming constantly and ensuring that their hair is nicely fluffed up and that their teeth crunch though the toughest material. They'll give a gift almost every week, especially if their partner likes it.

Beauty

Mahogany knows, that as a monster born from terror and an entire mythology dedicated to gods, they are beautiful and terrifying. Their hair is messy and long and can sense so many things, they can smell and hear much better than any other human, their devine form makes their horns regal and the many mouths and hands and eyes send people crying in joy and fear. Everyone is born with the body they are meant to have and while they don't understand why someome would want to change their body, Mahogany loves them and they love their own angular sharpness and there should be no reason for anyone to NOT want to spend all day feeding them.

Sex

Sex is a...new concept. It was had in The Town but Mahogany never really had a way of knowing it outside of Old Alpha reading them a bunch of puberty books that goes past the 18th century for boys and girls. Beyond that? Mahogany knows that they like licking themself especially well when thinking about a crush but when it comes to actual sex they're clueless for the first few times and the cues of it. Though Mahogany is very eager in sex to pleasure their partner and wants to be worshipped and to tease...although they also enjoy the idea of having a partner that can forced their head down and lift their ass by their tail to fill and rut them good?? Well, Mahogany has made their vulva swollen with those thoughts.

Birth

Ah yes. Birth. When you fill a bath of boiling blood, cut yourself open with a sacrifice and allow your Norse goddess to bless you with child. Y'know. Beats the queue at mothercare. Mahogany was born this way and um. Technically came from the body of a deer?? Robyn loved them immediately anyway and was the most insufferable mum now that she had not only the nordic antichrist, but the only child in The Town at all. It's part of the reason why Mahogany wants to make their own frozen home, so that they can ensure the same attention and effort into making their family as perfectly as posisble. Especially since the whole ritual takes a large amount of energy and effort.

Guilt

While Mahogany never really talks or thinks about it if they can help it, they feel a lot of guilt that he couldn't help their home, their worshipers. That Moder gave them so much power to do so much and all Mahogany really did was let people and a whole home die. They don't like facing their past mistakes and Mahogany will do anything posisble to try and save anyone close to them if needed. When they were younger, they used to turn their own power on themself subconsciously, which hurt even more to see someone from The Town wandering about in the woods before dispersing into ash.

Sacrifice

Mahogany is selfish. Therefore they would refuse to sacrifice anything that truly means something to them. Sure, sacrificing a meal or something to care for a mate is diffrent, but if Mahogany was forced to give up their power or the idea of a new home? Well, Mahogany has an embedded loyalty to Moder that not even a partner could break. Not unless Mahogany was willing to give up their power and to become human or something similar.

Secret

Mahogany is difficult at and with secrets. They can barely hide something they've been told, yet they can keep their own secrets for years on end. If you want to know something then you have to ask them for a while before they might finally spill. Their biggest secrets so far is that they lied when telling Old Alpha that they didn't remember their mother and when Moder told them to leave The Town for a while. That was when they came back to find everything had died.

Memory

Memories are usually when Mahogany's age starts to show. They're old as shit and the things they talk about at times show it, mostly from being with other ageless humans. But then Mahogany struggles to temper certain pathways to go or if Rhys told them to get a bigger rat or no rat at all to bring home??? Living for such a long time within a town where everything is the same means that Mahogany might struggle to remember certain events or faces, especially if they changed rapidly. Mahogany will never recognise Abby in his human form at first, probably never since it's such a stark contrast.

I’ve never published a She-Ra fanfic here (even if I have 2 in Ao3) but, since it’s ending tomorrow, I thought it was...adequate. I’ve been in this fandom since the show’s first season came out and to think about it’s coming to an end it’s very bittersweet, at least to me. I remember watching the first season during the week I was finishing my first semester at university and I remember that semester as one of the best ones of my academic life, so I’m really grateful She-Ra came into my life in that period. This was a great experience even if each season gave me like four breakdowns per episode :’) <3

This was supposed to be a Catradora fic but I ended up writing about Adora and Bow because I love them and they’re brotp material :’3 kind angsty, but that’s how I feel about She-Ra right now, so :’).

Also, English is not my first language, but I hope you like it.

Bow had been here many times before. 

Many, many times before...and he was certain, very certain, that never had the Bright Moon’s castle felt so empty. 

He also had been here without Glimmer many times before. Many, many times before, whether it was sneaking in by himself when she wasn’t available to help him, or he had been requested by the Queen (Long live the Queen) to help her take her stubborn child out of her room so she could be properly lectured; and that wasn’t it. Bow had been through the halls by himself very late at night, when Glimmer was out of power during slumber parties and one of the two had to sacrifice themself to go steal snacks from the kitchen; he had talked to the Queen by himself; he had walked through the gardens by himself when the stupid fight had gone too far and now they had to find a way to apologize. 

He had been here without Glimmer many times before, but never had he doubted he would see her again. 

The thought of never getting to see her best friend again had never crossed his mind, but right now it was all Bow could think about. 

He was usually a patient and somewhat realistic person (at least that was how he liked to consider himself) but right now, even for someone like him,  it was infuriating to see how while the world inside of his head was suspended in time, the one on the outside was still moving at its regular pace, even if it was in shambles. 

Clocks ticked. Hours passed. The weather changed. The breeze turned too cold or too hot. The foreign stars shone up in a sky that appeared to be somewhere it wasn’t meant to be. People spoke. People asked. People stared.

People mourned Queen Angella, because she would’ve known...No, she would’ve done better than this. 

People mourned Queen Glimmer, because oh, that poor negligent heir, whose crown was too big and heavy for her head. 

People mourned She-Ra, because what was Etheria to do without her; because what is that child to do without her sword. 

People, hesitantly, celebrated King Micah’s return because if it wasn’t Angella, and if it wasn’t Glimmer, then he was the one to fix the mess they had left behind. Or at least the one to take their place in that unfortunate throne. 

Bow had been confused and disappointed the whole time. Confused and disappointed on how they seemed to care but at the same time they seemed to not be getting it at all; how they weren’t capable to look above their own pain and realize they were falling into pieces too; How Angella had been someone’s mother; how Glimmer had been someone’s best friend and someone’s daughter; how there was a normal girl inside of She-Ra and they were lucky she was still alive; How King Micah had returned home only to find his wife and daughter to be gone. 

Bow felt confused and disappointed on them until he remembered they all were in the middle of a war.

A war that, at least today, they had lost. Of course, they had won some things and, at the end of the day, they were still here in one piece. 

But they had also lost too many things they weren’t supposed to. One of them being Glimmer...And She-Ra’s sword. And Bow knew they would manage to keep fighting because that’s what they always did, but he wasn’t sure how. 

Scorpia was the one who came and told him there was something wrong with Adora, and Bow didn’t ask for any further proof because she had the right to feel bad and to feel absolutely destroyed. She was only human. A normal girl, even if people refused to recognize her as such because a big sword had decided to turn her into a tall, shiny, gorgeous lady. 

But because he was her friend and he was supposed to be there for her, and because Scorpia looked genuinely worried, Bow decided to go check on her. 

The walk to Adora’s chamber was the longest he’d ever had to walk, mostly because he had moved very slowly, scared to find out what was Scorpia referring to. Still, when the door was right in front of him, sheer courage ran through his veins along with his blood. And then, in a blink, Bow’s knuckles were knocking against the door.

No response, as expected, but now that Bow knew he had taken the time to knock and try to be polite, his conscience was clean, so he opened the door even though permission had not been granted.

When he faced the conditions the bedroom was in, there was only one thing that popped in Bow’s head: 

“We hit things.”

Sometimes thinking about small children being under the Horde’s care was enough to make Bow’s heart ache for days as if it were breaking piece by piece. 

Those poor creatures; stolen childhoods, stolen happiness...stolen lives. 

The room looked like an hurricane had torn it apart.

Some of the furniture was on the floor; there were broken things, ripped paper sheets, ripped documents, including a map of Etheria and some unnecessarily complicated notes about Princess Prom; in fact,  the only thing that appeared to have been treated with delicacy was the broken sword; placed on the bed, and all of the pieces they managed to recover placed in order, like a puzzle, only it was still detached. 

Adora was the last thing Bow’s eyes found; she was knelt down, really close to one of the walls; Bow couldn’t see her face, but he could almost bet her stare was blank; her hair was down, as it had been when they had arrived, but it looked more like a mess now; her hands were placed on her lap, but even from here Bow could see her knuckles were bruised and had tiny red spots, which made him feel speechless...even breathless, he dared to say. And the need to run towards her and shake her was unbearable, but he tried to hold himself back as if his life depended on it. 

And he gave her time, until Adora felt his gaze fixed on her and her head started turning around to face him. Very slowly, as if she were yet to process her body was experiencing movement. 

When Bow saw her, he saw exactly what he was expecting to see. 

Her eyes were red and swollen, and her cheeks looked shiny due to the tears that were still drying on her skin. 

Still, when she managed to identify him, she cleaned her nose with her arm and then sniffed. Next, her dry lips were the shape of a forced, broken, barely put together smile that, if anything, made her lower lip quiver more than it made it look more relaxed. A look that, as a whole, made her emanate a more worrying aura. 

Adora took a deep, faltering breath before speaking. 

“Hey, Bow.” She said in a hoarse voice. 

That’s when he allowed himself to finally approach her, kneeling down behind her. 

Slowly, Bow hugged her from her back; Adora sniffed again, interlocking her fingers between Bow’s as her way to correspond the hug. A couple of seconds later, she was mildly shaking, but he could feel her swallowing very hard with every breath. 

Bow held her tighter, closing his eyes. 

Beneath her shirt, Bow could feel the traces on her skin from the scratches Catra had given her some time ago. He had never seen those scars, but he had been there the day Adora was laying face down while they tried to heal the wounds (To be honest, Mermista and Frosta hadn’t helped much). 

Actually, Bow had been there most of the times Adora had allowed anybody to take care of her wounds; people tended to see her as this invencible giant lady because that was what She-Ra looked like but, in reality, Adora was scarred. 

She was tossed around in every battle as if she were a mannequin; she was wounded, injured, bruised and  emotionally and physically attacked every single time she had to face the war. And people didn’t seem to notice that. 

Or maybe they did but refused to admit it, because it was more relieving to think of She-Ra as this almighty warrior who would get up every time even if she was bleeding to death. 

And she did, but not because she could, but because she chose to do so. 

And, to Bow, it was unfair to ask this much out of a person; it was unfair to be in the middle of a war; it was unfair to scar someone’s body and mind this much and this bad. 

Like any kid who had grew up in the Horde and any kid who had been born in the middle of this conflict, Adora was stolen. Her everything was stolen. Literally, because she had been taken from her family when she was just a baby. 

And now, even when she was in a safer environment than the Horde, the consequences of that kept taking things from her. 

Bow felt as if he were hugging what was left of her, and if he dared to let go even just a bit, she would turn into dust. 

This was just Adora. No longer She-Ra. And even if in other circumstances that could’ve been liberating, this time was the opposite. 

She-Ra was gone. 

Just like Angella. 

Just like Glimmer. 

Bow rested his forehead on her shoulder, and he felt her hold getting tighter, as she leaned her cheek on his skin. 

“I’m getting her back.” Adora muttered. “She-Ra or not. I’m getting her back.” 

“We’re getting her back.” Bow corrected. His voice sounding like a very thin thread. “She’s our best friend.” 

And it was unfair. Very unfair. 

“But we must be strong.”

Adora shivered. Gulped again. Breathed. 

Spoke. 

“We must be strong.” She repeated. 

Because they couldn’t waste more time mourning Glimmer’s absence, because they had to use that time to find a way to bring her back. 

The world was still spinning.

And time was running out.

xingchen

4. how easy is it to earn their trust?

it is actually very difficult to earn their trust, only because xingchen doesn’t allow people close enough in order to do so. the very few people who do have their hard-earned trust before the gang comes around is their remaining bio family.

5. how easy is it to earn their mistrust?

i wouldn’t say it’s easy for xingchen to suddenly mistrust you after earning their trust. they actually are the type to hold out for you for far longer than they probably should. while there are like, inklings of mistrust here in there, they’ll probably still trust you to watch their back in a fight and defend you against others who are like ‘xingchen maybe that isn’t a good idea :/’ they have a whole lot of hope & love for the world, though, & it's very hard for them to give up just anyone, especially someone who has previously earned their trust.

6. do they consider laws flexible, or immovable?

xingchen was raised that laws are immovable, so they’ve grown up knowing & believing this philosophy for most things. however, as they’ve grown older they’ve realized that maybe they aren’t completely sure about this. perhaps, it can be situational.  

7. what triggers nostalgia for them, most often? do they enjoy that feeling?

snow. winter on the mountain triggers nostalgia for them. seeing the jade amulet & sword that belonged to their mother & the calligraphy set that belonged to their father but mostly snow. they do not enjoy the feeling. they will subject themself to it anyway.  

11. how do they cope with confusion (seek clarification, pretend they understand, etc)?

it mostly depends on where it comes from or who they’re around and what they’re confused about. usually they’ll simply ask to clarify; there’s no use in going into a situation pretending like they know something & they all get themselves killed because of negligence and pride. but…. that pride is exactly what gets the better of xingchen sometimes and it’s fucking hilarious.

28. would they prefer a lie over an unpleasant truth?

xingchen would absolutely prefer an unpleasant truth to a lie. they would possibly mumble through it or deliver it stiffly/coldly so as to be detached from the unpleasant feeling, but at least you would know the truth.

29. do they usually live up to their own ideals?

hmm. this is... difficult because so much of xingchen’s ideals were crafted by someone else, expectations put on them by someone else. outwardly, it would seem so. for xingchen, i think that they would always feel as though they have not done enough, or that they could have done something differently; that there is always room for them to improve to become the most perfect version of themself. they’re very tough on themself and i think that it begins getting worse around the second youxiong arc & the aftermath of that & the entirety of new boot goofin arc :)

a – why are u excited about this character?

i love xingchen’s energy!! their thoughts and their feelings are something i love to explore as well as like, the way that they’d react to things bc their method is so different than zoe’s. im also excited bc, just. like. the outward perception of xingchen is so different when compared to who they are as a person, unfiltered and raw.

b – what inspired u to create them?

xingchen was the order in the chaos; that’s initially why they were created. the body of their character was this philosophy, to balance zoe, to mirror her. xingchen’s name was something that was conceived almost like, directly after this, and once again, it was a mirror to zoe’s birth name - xian, and the implications behind that. xingchen’s name was mainly chosen bc of the amount of stars that surround their planet: 4. so xingchen’s name & this idea of someone who completed zoe’s balancing act, who ordered the chaos, crafted the idea of a character that was, in a way, the juxtaposition of celestial and earthly (like zoe) but only slightly to the left, wherein even to zoe, this character would be someone you were in awe of. they always sort of felt like the human embodiment of a shooting star, moved by duty and the righting of wrong to come down to earth. xingchen & zoe are technically on the same spectrum, but they have different methods, and that’s what i wanted from xingchen. i wanted a character that did elicit this feeling of awe, because of how amazing, talented, attractive etc. they are, EVEN TO ZOE, but was also intensely stubborn and, initially, very stuck on this ‘my way, or the high-way’ sort of mentality. i WANTED xingchen to create conflict with zoe and zoe to create conflict with xingchen, bc i wanted it to be an opportunity for both characters to be taken out of their comfort zones by each other.

of course, other things, small images, inspired me further when creating a silhouette for xingchen: blue & white; white jade; the sunrise; loquats; clouds; snow on mountain tops; spring; music played on a guqin; ballet & figure skating; swan <3

c – did u have trouble figuring out where they fit in their own story?

hmm i did have trouble figuring out how i would involve them, or any of the rest of youxiong, into zoe’s story after the new boot goofin arc. sure she made off world excursions late in that arc after her recovery, but there wasn’t a lot & my mind was blank. i’m still looking to involve xingchen more maybe bc im not 100% sure on the whole roommates thing.

h – what trait do u admire most?

tbh how deeply xingchen feels things. they don’t communicate it often, it’s difficult for them, both verbally and visually, and sometimes even physically, but they feel everything so, so deeply and that’s. i just really love them a l o t.

zhi yin

1. what’s the maximum amount of time ur character can sit still with nothing to do?

yin can sit still for a moderate amount of time with nothing to do. she fiddles, though, with her fingers or with her clothes, even when she isn’t particularly nervous.

2. how easy is it for ur character to laugh?

it’s fairly easy for yin to laugh if she’s on good terms with you - & this is mostly everyone as she believes the best of everyone, that everyone is generally good.

3. how do they put themselves to bed at night? (reading, singing, thinking?)

yin usually starts by making herself - & cheng – something warm to drink & once she’s assured her brother she’s fine & sent him off to bed, she’ll curl up in bed & read about far away places or an interesting new techniques that she knows she’ll never be able to try until she passes out.

4. how easy is it to earn their trust?

it’s hard for me to gauge how easy it is bc yin DOESN’T trust most ppl. she’s the type of person who looks like she would be easy to win over, & she would be likable & sweet to u, but the only ppl yin is loyal to & trusts at the beginning are cheng, her uncle, and oddly enough, zoe. so like, while she does believe ppl are generally good, this doesn’t mean that she has every intention of falling victim to someone’s wrongdoings or intentions to harm people she cares about bc she trusted blindly on account of this philosophy. she’s cautious, but she doesn’t have this all-around anxiety like cheng, and she isn’t gullible like everyone intends her to be. for yin, i think it is like this: if cheng or zoe trusts you, she will trust you, but she will be cautious, and mostly look to them.

5. how easy is it to earn their mistrust?

i think in order to lose yin’s trust, you would have to lie to her. like, big time. or hurt her family.

6. do they consider laws flexible, or immovable?

yin is on the fence with this. with her uncle zhi as one of her mentors & cheng always looking out for her, laws/rules were immovable in order to keep her in a box & (in cheng’s situation) to keep her safe. however, their clan never actually taught them that rules had to be followed so rigidly (they follow a philosophy that one should achieve the impossible) that they were flexible, so i do think yin leans more towards flexible, but has anxiety about acting it out.

7. what triggers nostalgia for them, most often? do they enjoy that feeling?

making soup, walking on the docks, boating out on the river, practicing forms with cheng. yin does enjoy it, even if it is sometimes bittersweet.

8. what were they told to stop/start doing most often as a child?

stop daydreaming so much. (she wasn’t daydreaming) :)

9. do they swear? do they remember their first swear word?

yin doesn’t swear! not really

10. what lie do they most frequently remember telling? does it haunt them?

‘i’m fine.’/ ‘i feel fine!’ yes.

15. how do they speak? Is what they say usually thought of on the spot, or do they rehearse it in their mind first?

yin has a soft, pleasant voice. it’s almost like a whisper but its warm & sweet. she has the type of voice that if u were in a crowd, because of the tone of it, u might not be able to hear her even if she was standing next to u & speaking. her tone is always very sincere, or slightly teasing. she can stutter a lot when she’s excited or nervous. yin thinks about what she says usually, but sometimes she does pipe up & blurt what she’s just thought of on the spot. rarely does she raise her voice, but when she does, u know she means business.

16. what makes their stomach turn?

when she goes under. it’s an awful feeling of being disconnected from herself & not knowing what she did while she was out, & seeing everyone’s faces after, looking them in the eye after what she could have possibly done & them seeing what happens to her when she get ‘sick.’

17. are they easily embarrassed?

yes. yin is easily flustered, if that’s the same thing. she fumbles over her words in this case & will fiddle with her hands. crying is sometimes the result of being embarrassed too :) but i would rather not think about yin crying…

18. what embarrasses them?

usually anyone acting particularly brash, or flirty. when she, herself, makes a grand gesture on her own end, and it’s rejected. sometimes being reminded that she can’t cultivate while others can, that she’s a lacking heir.

19. what is their favorite number?

hmm three.

20. if they were asked to explain the difference between romantic and platonic or familial love, how would they do it?

yin might explain familial love as brushing her a-cheng’s hair out of his face & patting his head despite him being taller than her just to piss him off a little, nagging him until he rolls his eyes & does as she says, or finding a blanket tucked over her that clearly wasn’t there before after a late night of reading at her desk. she might explain platonic love as sitting with zoe on the docks with their toes in the water, zoe’s head on her shoulder & both of them spilling their hearts out, or sharing tea & poetry with xingchen for the first time, seeing them blush around the tips of their ears & having to stifle her giggles until they finally broke the tension with a laugh of their own. yin doesn’t know how to explain the difference of romantic love yet.

a – why are u excited about this character?

yin has so many different, like, facets & she’s really fun to think about. i really love thinking about her dynamic with zoe, but i especially love to think about her dynamic with others in the group & how she might get along with them & how their relationships will progress. she’s really sweet & is willing to help people out of the good will of her heart but still holds them at a distance & is like…disconcerting in a way, and that’s a character i’m pretty sure i’ve never had before, so she’s pretty new to me.

b – what inspired u to create them?

yin remained a mystery to me for so long, hence why her name is yin. she was like a little shadow. she remains a little shadow. a secret still. something i, and everyone, has yet to figure out. a dark spot with a gentle smile that stayed at zoe’s side. she’s the shadow in the pond that you arent too sure is a stick or a snake or not, but you keep creeping closer to anyway bc you think if it were a snake it would have made some move to get closer to you by now. and yin’s not a snake. she’s the turtle in this story. or a shell, perhaps. a lucky dark little tortoise shell. she can be a little scary at times, as the person creating her, and for the other characters interacting with her, but also she comes off as completely harmless. like a lake or a river wide and deep enough to swim in. yin has really just been fragments and pieces, little ideas here and there, that have come together to create a very healing, loving character that just has an overwhelming flood of love pouring out from her at all times.

there was also the idea, story-wise, of wanting to create a character that doesn’t become friends with zoe specifically bc of a shared interest/goal – yin doesn’t want to kill her uncle; she genuinely wants to be zoe’s friend. they do share traits & like. actual interests – they’re both family oriented, hence why yin wouldn’t want to kill her family – but yin isn’t zoe’s loyal-ass friend bc they have a similar moral code or bc they had similar goals & became close over the course of the mission etc. like jason, for example. the lotus is a big symbol for yin as well, which connects her directly to zoe, who is representative of the center.

Can’t Stop Don’t Stop

They were sitting in the diner on the station, a common place for the average worker to stop for lunch or the more budget savvy traveler to wait for their ship. It was between meal breaks so it was more quiet and Caretaker had planned for exactly that. They had been dealing with an upswell in upper respiratory tract infections during the last few days and the amount of whining that they had quietly put up with was almost more than they could take. Some time alone, with coffee and waffles, was exactly what they had been holding out for all rotation. 

They concentrated on nothing but the coffee, it’s warmth and bitterness and creaminess until the cup was down to the bitter end. Waiting for the fill up, they looked around idly. The problem with dealing with people all day is it takes the fun out of people watching, but their eyes hurt so they didn’t want to stare at their reader just yet. Besides, they could hardly remember what was happening in the book it’d been too long since they had a chance to read it last. There was a knocking sound beside them and cursing as the patron beside them spilled his coffee, causing the server to rush over to help clean it up (further delaying coffee). The server seemed quite annoyed with the man’s antics and, was that slurring? Caretaker sighed inwardly, wishing they had a switch to turn off their constantly scanning ‘sick person’ sense.

Taking in their observations before approaching the patient, Caretaker noted the hands were slightly jumpy but there was an obvious incoordination about his whole body. His eyes had a glazed look, and he had a few glasses of juice finished on the table. He went to get up and fell back into his chair, almost like a drunk person. Holding their hand up, Caretaker slid closer and stopped him. “Hey, are you ok?”

The man seemed to take a beat too long to realize someone was talking to him. He muttered something about the bathroom and tried to push past them. They forcibly put their hand out to stop him and he started to get agitated, “just take a minute, let me help you.” He shook his head and said something about being tired. The server came back to refill the coffee, “he must be drunk. So annoying at this time of day.” Caretaker asked how the server knew and she replied “he’s going to the bathroom like, way too often and is drinking so much juice and coffee. Maybe he’s hungover but still drunk I guess? I’m going to have to call security if he doesn’t leave soon. I’ve asked him three times but he doesn’t seem to get it.”

“Ah, you know what I’ll take care of it. I think I can talk him out of here. Cancel my order, sorry.” The server nodded and left while Caretaker looked back to the man who was fidgeting with a sugar packet unsuccessfully. They noted the (now coffee soaked) application papers for one of the mercenary outfits with an office on station. Security would definitely cause problems for his future career. “Ok buddy, why don’t you come with me and get checked out by the doc, yea?”

He shook his head “I’ve gotta go to my interview, doctor tomorrow. My medic said I needed it checked out.” “Needed what checked out?” He tapped his chest “my heart goes fast I think. What time is it?” He started to get up and they helped him, starting to lead him out the door while scrambling to grab the soaked paperwork. They made it out into the main thoroughfare and began trying to weave through the busy day crowd. He suddenly pitched to one side and Caretaker barely kept him upright, “dizzy” he said as he staggered, Caretaker needing both hands to hold him. 

Seeing a garbage can beside them they dropped the paperwork into it hoping no one decided to dig for it later. One arm around his waist and the other holding his arm across their shoulders, they had better control keeping him on track as they navigated the crowds of people coming and going from shops and appointments, deliveries and tourists disturbing the flow of people at times. He started insisting he had to make his appointment and so Caretaker just lied and said that’s where they were going. He was starting to get very anxious and agitated so they were doing all they could to keep him calm (and not attract too much attention). “I need water” he said

“I know we’ll get it in a minute” they replied. “ My appointment, I’ve got to go, got to get there I can’t be late” he rambled. “We’re almost there you’ll be on time.” they assured. 

“I need water. “ He repeated for the umpteeth time. 

Caretaker kept up the dance and the charade of calm and caring and soothing until he said he was going to throw up, “oh no you’re not! Not here. You will hold it until we get there.” Caretaker almost said ‘clinic’ but caught themself. 

Finally, at last, the clinic was in view. In reality it had only taken them 10 minutes to get there, far faster than if they had waited for a medic crew to pick him up. As they approached Caretaker was relieved to see someone open the door for them. “Hey Betty, got a room? Classic high blood sugar I’m sure.”

Getting him into a room (and a tray just in case he upchucked) Caretaker stuck around to keep him in place until the doctor arrived. “Hey Xarandi, yea I’m not thrilled about being back so soon but I couldn’t leave the guy. Sounds like his medic at his last detachment said he needed to be checked out for palpitations, I don’t know when that was. He had an application for a merc outfit here so I assume he’s been putting it off for travel or whatever. Found him in Zulu’s Diner, server said he was drinking juice and coffee like it was going out of style. Bet the guy’s never heard of freaking water before, I swear I’d be out of a job if people just drank more huh? Right so anyway server said he’s going to the bathroom every few minutes, stumbling and slurring his words and thought he was drunk. You’ll notice he’s quite agitated and anxious and I think he’s orientated to person and place and mostly time but he’s definitely not fully alert, you know what I mean? With that I’ll leave the rest to you and try to get some food before I cause a scene somewhere.”

Quickly making their exit, Caretaker breathed a sigh of exasperation into the busy mainfare and used their techniques to keep from shrieking to the ceiling. They decided they would get something to go and head back to their room, screw being in public for the rest of the day. They walked a few minutes towards their favorite takeout spot and stopped suddenly, patting their pockets up and down their body. “AW SHRIPNAL” they cursed, causing a few looks and disapproving noises from passerbyers as they realized they left their reader at the diner. They debated just giving it up, giving everything up, and going back to bed hungry. Begrudgingly, they turned and began trudging back to the diner, dark utterances chanting in their mind. @crash-bump-bring-the-whump gets the prompt credit:  Fuck w your whumpee’s blood sugar, its SO underrated!
