Ni had been back for a week or so. Davey decided to cook a big meal for his baby boy’s homecoming and everyone was invited. Mags and Jenna were on assignment and couldn’t make it back in time. Keith and Jamie were in New York for some conference. Fergie was the only one who was going to make it.

When he got off work, Dave headed to the store and Niall tagged along. Bits of tinsel topped the aisles and wreaths of holly covered the check-out lines.  While Dave was busy deciding between two different types of organic chicken, Niall was scanning an aisle full of holiday themed treats. Next to some Santa shaped chocolate and weird marshmallow treats was something that caught his eye.

A wine advent calendar.

He knew he had to get it. The women in his life loved their wine and he knew that buying them this treat would make up for all the time he had been gone. He picked up two boxes and headed back to find his best friend.

“What’s that?” Dave nodded inspecting a few different potatoes.

“Treat for the girls.” Niall said slipping it into the cart.

Dave read the words on the box. “What the fuck mate? I was supposed to be their favorite tonight.”

Niall giggled as he threw his hands up. “Just trying to help a brother out.”

“My chicken cordon bleu would have been enough but now you’ve got them wine for every day next month it won’t be.” Dave sighed. “Another point for Team Pop Star.”

Niall chewed his lip feeling bad. “How bout this? You say you got one for Britt and I got the other for Fergie.”

Dave put down the potato and walked over to Niall. He placed a hand on his shoulder and squeezed tightly. “I’m just fucking with you mate.”

“Oh.” Niall laughed nervously.

“Tonight’s about you. You’re going to be the favorite no matter what.” Dave smiled. “And I couldn’t give two fucks because once Britt knows I’m cooking this, I’m getting laid no matter what.”

Niall’s infamous cackle filled the produce section. He was happy to be home.

Later that night, after dinner is done and the dishes are clean, the foursome plopped down in front of the tv and caught up. Before the hot gossip began, Niall headed to the kitchen to unveil the gifts he had bought.

“So Ni is trying really hard to win you girls over.” Dave said as he watched his friend reappear in the living room. “Just remember who made the fancy meal.”

“Jealous much?” Britt asked looking between the two men.

“Saw these and had to get them.” Niall said handing over the boxes.

Georgina ran her hand over the text on the package. “Oh my goodness.”

“Niall Horan.” Brittany squealed holding it to her chest.

Dave let out a dramatic groan, “I fucking told you mate.”

“You know this is going to last like a week right?” Georgina said with a smile.

“Don’t think that’s how an advent calendar works, Ferg.” Niall laughed.

“Niall, it’s wine.” Georgina said. “Wine doesn’t count.”

The brunette made his way back beside her on the couch.

“She wasn’t good with the chocolate ones when we were younger.” Brittany laughed. “The only thing she’s impulsive about.”

“What is the point in saving one for every day when you can have them all at once?” Georgina mumbled looking at the list of wines in the box.

“Georgie, you have a problem.” Dave shook his head.

Georgina rolled her eyes. “I promise I’ll be better with this one.”

“You like wine more than chocolate.” Brittany said. “I doubt that’ll work.”

“If you drink all of those at once, you’ll have a terrible hangover and you are a bitch when you have one of those.” Brittany added.

Niall nudged her leg, “I’ll buy ya another one if you run out.”

“Niall Horan, you’re part of the problem!” Brittany chided him.

“I’ll buy you another one too.” Niall shot back. “Shit.”

“That’s not the point!” Brittany said dramatically.

“Looks like I’m going to win the title for favorite tonight.” Dave mumbled.

Niall shook his head making the two women laugh.

“S’great bein home, innit?” Georgina winked.

A genuine smile grew on his face. “Wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.”

so there is def a running gag that in uni when harry was a dumb idiot child and because he’s always been too nice to let people down, he used to tell one nigth stands/dates he wasnt into/etc that HE WAS DEEPLY HORRIBLY IN NEVER-ENDING LOVE WITH LOUIS to get out of it. FLASH FORWARD to present day when theres like a school reunion or like a uni friend’s wedding or SOMETHING, WHO CARES!! CONVOLUTED SITCOM REASONS!!!! and they arrive in their little foursome group and are like greeted with OHHH ITS SO SWEET YOU AND HARRY ARE STILL TOGETHER!!! WE ALWAYS HOPED.

louis is like choking on his drink when harry steps in like YEP! THAT’S US. STILL GOING STRONG. HAPPY AS EVER. bc this is one of those OFF periods for narry, where harry is doing the pining and is v sad and feeling lonely, especially bc events like these niall is always in his element chatting ppl up, and he has NOT been looking froward to that so he sees his chance and just RUNS WITH IT, not even thinking. “YES, MY LONG TERM BOYFRIEND, LOUIS TOMLINSON.” and he can use the excuse that he cant bear to upset anyone! they looked so happy to see us last! like, louis is not buying that, but liam clearly sees harry is like Struggling a bit here, and needs this, and encourages louis to go along w it, he’ll make it up to him later [wink wink, etc].

So then theres a lot of louis kind of reluctantly playing boyfriend to harry who is very loudly [when a certain person is nearby] explaining louis’ grand romantic gestures, and “oh, we’ve talk about a spring wedding” “we want at least 3 kids”, and how louis is MILES BETTER IN BED THAN ANYONE ELSE HARRY’S BEEN WITH FOR SURE. Louis can clearly tell this is kinda bugging niall which is hilarious, but less hilarious is Liam doesn’t seem remotely jealous???? he just keeps looking over with an even more lovesick look on his face and Louis has to Step Up His Game. HE SHOULD BE SO JEALOUS ABOUT HOW GREAT OF A BOYFRIEND HE’S BEING FOR HARRY RN THAT HE DRAGS HIM OFF TO A COAT CLOSET!!! WTF!!!! and thus then the full force pretend dating happens. 

Later when louis is being an extremely good fake boyfriend and dancing with harry to all the songs, especially the slow ones, Harry is thanking him for tonight but he can tell he’s still not like completely there and having the fun he should, and notices that niall’s like off to the side doing his old lean and whisper w someone, and harry can clearly see and its bumming him outttt :(( ,louis is like, ok just follow my lead, and this is the only time i’ll ever say this but you can throw a drink in my face if you need to. and steps back from Harry and much more loudly declares THAT’S RIGHT, NIALL HORAN, OUR MUTUAL FRIEND, RIGHT OVER THERE, SEDUCED ME, AND GAVE ME HERPES.  and harry has the biggest dumbest smile on his face as he grabs someone’s drink to toss on louis as niall’s prospect slowly walks away from him and he glares at louis. 

liam 100% drags louis into a coat closet after.
