Characters: Carla Villanueva & Zeynep Turkmen (@zeynepxturkmen) Location: Skyline Shopping Center 12.23 Closed Starter
After the unexpected surprise the previous night, Carla wanted nothing more than to hide at home and avoid contact with anyone she knew. She did not know how to feel about Freddie being back in town, unannounced, once again. She was upset, angry, hurt... a plethora of feelings that had been numbed over the past couple of weeks rising back to the surface once again, just in time for Christmas. Which was exactly why she had to force herself out of the house. With her sister in Boston, she had not planned anything for the holiday until her father insisted that she joined him and his girlfriend for Christmas lunch. Now she was stuck in the mall, trying to find gifts for Jane and her children too. She just needed a cherry on top of the cake to add to a streak of negative things that could happen - and that was coming face to face with Zeynep as soon as she joined the line to pay. "Hey. Uh.. after you."

location: spruce mountain ski lodge and resort
character: @zeynepxturkmen & maya.
Tumblr media
Maya strolled through the snowy grounds of Spruce Mountain Ski Lodge, the chilly air tingling against her cheeks. She hadn't initially planned to participate in the Snowman Building Contest, but curiosity led her to the area to see the creative outcomes of the festive competition. As she approached the display of whimsically crafted snowmen, Maya couldn't help but admire the varied designs that dotted the snowy landscape. Laughter and cheers filled the air, adding to the joyous ambiance of the event. Among the crowd, Maya's gaze fell upon someone familiar – Zeynep, her brother's ex. The Christmas spirit prompted the brunette to set aside any lingering awkwardness and extend a friendly greeting.. for now. "Hey.. It's been a while. How are you?"

location: jeanie's apartment
status: closed ( @zeynepxturkmen )
"Did we ever order that pizza or did we just talk about it?" Sprawled out on the couch, Jeanie and Zeyno had made a comfortable nest for themselves out of blankets where they'd settled in for a Back To The Future marathon while the edibles kicked in. It'd been a while since they'd had a chance to hang out and just relax, their last few attempts being swallowed by the chaos of organising the Renaissance Faire, and Jeanie had decided they needed to celebrate by forgetting literally every responsibility in their lives and gorging on their favourite snacks. So far, it was going perfectly. She'd been considering texting one of her roommates and bugging them to bring them slurpees from the gas station on their way home from work when she remembered the pizza. After the question had hung in the air for a few seconds she prodded her friend with her foot. "Hey, snoozy. You alive over there?"

꒰ psychological ꒱ ✦ positive traits. gentle, sentimental, creative, kind, engaging, thorough, organized, observant ✦ negative traits. sensitive, quiet, guarded, awkward, anxious, petty, self-conscious, gets very in her own head ✦ mbti type. infj - the advocate ✦ temperament. melancholic ✦ education level. she is relatively smart, and given that she was homeschooled, zeynep finished her high school education a year early, practically devouring the courses and information she was learning. she was set to begin college at eighteen, but unfortunately never got the chance to, as the outbreak happened and squashed her plans. ✦ hobbies / skills. it may not be a very useful skill now, but it was a hobby back then: dancing. she was placed in ballet classes from a young age and advanced through with the rest of her peers, learning various moves and eventually working her way up to going en pointe. for all her distaste for being in the spotlight, something about the recitals and performances seemed to quash that fear, although she would experience a load of anxiety beforehand. other than that, if you want to know something specific, zeynep is the girl you go to. she has an interest in various topics and studying them, so if you have a question you want answered, and she doesn't know it, she'll gladly do research for you, just so she can have the chance to learn, as well. for other hobbies, she enjoys 'old lady' crafts, such as crocheting, knitting, and the like. she is also a very good writer, though she'd be embarrassed for anyone to read her works or to be given praise for them. ✦ mental ailments. anxiety, panic attacks, occasionally struggles to get her words out and thus finds herself frustrated and goes non-verbal ✦ physical ailments. multiple sclerosis, which is a chronic disease of the central nervous system. essentially, her body attacks itself, leading to various symptoms. some days are much worse than others for zeynep, and she latches onto the good days like a child would their mother. her bad days... well, they're the ones where she stays inside and struggles to get to work, depending on how utterly exhausted she's feeling. before coming to the sanctuary, stress caused horrific flare-ups for her, and she was sick for a long time after she and her father arrived. zeynep doesn't let anyone know about her ailment, because she doesn't want to be a burden on others, mentally or physically. it's easier to pretend like things are alright, though i'm sure some people have noticed in the collective ten years she's spent here that she's not altogether well.
꒰ familial ꒱ ✦ mother. ceren sahin (deceased) ✦ father. bayram sahin ✦ siblings. ahmet sahin, twin brother ✦ children. none ✦ significant other. none ꒰ history ꒱ (i'll make this nice and filled out later) cw: illness (multiple sclerosis), familial death
✦ yada yada, born to older parents who had her and her brother as 'oopsie' babies; the two were homeschooled because their parents wanted to keep them close; both were put in classes for things they enjoyed - zeynep in dance, ahmet in martial arts, though his parents worried about him getting hurt; when she wasn't dancing, her head was in a book and she read at least 2 every given week; she started dealing with health issues at the age of 16 and it would take a year for her to get a diagnosis; of course, it was only a year after that that the outbreak occurred and life went further to shit; her mom passed due to other circumstances, but zeynep, ahmet and their father remained; they were her rocks when she struggled, when her medication ran out and flares couldn't be tamed; they would arrive at the sanctuary two years after the outbreak, calling the place home; it would take her one year to get healthy enough to begin to work, and she immediately locked eyes on the library, where she was trained to be an archivist; some days, she thinks she won't survive, not because of the outbreak, but because of her own body raging against her ꒰ headcanons꒱
✦ she gets very sentimental about things that are important to her. she'll keep them in a special place, organized to perfection, and handle them with extreme gentility. before the outbreak, she kept all of her old pointe shoes and cried over the fact that she couldn't take them with her (although she understood it wasn't rational to keep them.) she also cried when her mom's necklace was lost after she, her father, her brother, and the group they were with had to make a quick run for better shelter ✦ she takes her time with things, prefers to be slow moving and not in wild rushes that stress her out, since her mind tends to do that anyway; thus, she ends up having a greater appreciation for the small things - the way the moon looks shining through her window, the soft fluff of a kitten's fur, the twinkle in her father's eye when he smiles. small details mean the world to her ✦ zeynep tends to be pretty socially awkward. some days, it's like she's fighting with a demon to get the right words out when they just don't want to come. quietness is her comfort zone, because she can too easily get over stimulated by voices and loud chatter. that said, she doesn't necessarily have a large preference towards being completely alone, but being shy makes it hard for her to be in large groups of people or entertain conversation from more than one or two at a time. she'd much rather be by the wall, watching what's going on or reading a book than to be stuck in the middle of it all, or the center of attention. too many eyes on her makes her wary, as if they can all see right through her. ✦ while she uses her little notepad to communicate some days when her mouth just doesn't want to work or she's too anxious to also deal with stumbling over her words, zeynep is also very big on physical communication - little hand touches, bumping someone with her shoulder, giving them a hug. obviously she's not going to just walk up to someone random, who she hasn't gotten to know very well, and hug them. but if the two are friends and she wants to show that she's there for them, she'll use one of these gestures, or show up at their door to spend time with them when she's not in her own little world ✦ she has several notebooks full of short stories she's written, but her latest piece is a poem; more later ✦ zeynep has a competitive streak, likely from growing up with a brother. she's also incredibly passionate, and sometimes, these two traits mix together in a 'deadly' way; more later lmao ✦ comfort matters deeply to her. this isn't just mental comfort, but physical, as well. for as much as she wants to have her mind at ease, she also needs to have her body relaxed and at peace. wrapping up in several blankets at a time can help zeynep with this, and if you end up visiting her in her room, you'll likely see her in burrito form ✦ loves psychology and reading about it; more later yeet ꒰ wanted connections꒱
✦ other librarians, as well as those who visit the library, please! i'd say this is where she gets most of her social interaction, and something about it being 'professional' really helps her to keep that hat on and choose what words she's going to use with a lot more intention than just in a regular conversation. she can answer questions about facts and books a lot better than she can talk about herself. watch out, though, she might start rambling about a topic she's really interested in, and then you'll be stuck listening to Nerd Shit:tm: for at least five minutes ✦ i'm ngl, having either her father, her brother, or both of them would fill me with such happiness, i can't even describe. they're both part of her support system, and she's part of theirs, holding their hands, telling them it's going to be okay, or giving them sympathetic smiles if they're having a rough day ✦ i'd say she might do the above (holding hands and telling them it'll be okay during a rough spell) for people she's close to, as well. it might take a little bit of extra effort to become an actual friend of zeynep's, but once you are, it means that she feels more comfortable with you than anyone else and can let herself just be, without having to feel self-conscious. she can engage the way she wants, without having to explain. she might not be overtly talkative, but she understands that being a physical presence is important, too, when it comes to others not feeling alone. just being there for someone, essentially, whether they're talking about an issue or just silently spending time with each other making idle chatter ✦ i'd say she's rather understanding towards others, except for when they're being assholes. then, she'll think the most petty thoughts about you all while staring you down a bit menacingly. seriously, it's kind of scary how she can get. even if she's not saying what she thinks out loud, it's not hard to tell how she's feeling, especially if it's anger or frustration ✦ it's been ten years, so maybe a past romantic interest or two? i have no idea exactly how this would have gone, so we can discuss it in depth together if you're interested. she has a preference towards men, but needs to have a connection with them on some level to be able to take the step of "hey, we're in a relationship now". she doesn't want to play around, or do casual dating - but hey, that could have happened in the past, before she figured out what she's interested in. and/or closed herself off because she thinks her illness would be too much for someone else to handle ✦ i'll get more here later as i think of things!!

"You think they're gonna go all Disney Parks-esque when it comes to the tree lighting next year? I swear, every year they closer and closer to doing so. I wonder if the Mouse would pitch a bitch fit over Harris stealing his thunder." Taking a sip of their hot chocolate, Hero had been expecting to see one of their kids standing next to them. Nearly choking on the drink once they realized that, instead of their children, it was someone she hadn't seen before that moment. "What the fu—?" Panic began to settle in as they looked around, the writer feeling themself relax once they saw their three kids near the Falveys, Meg and Alex playing while the twins chatted with Asli and Eli, giving Rhia some affection as well. They let out a sigh of relief, beginning to relax and remember the kids asking to go see the family before glancing back at the other. Smiling sheepishly as they rubbed the back of their neck. "Sorry. I thought you were one of my kids before remembering where they're at. But my question still stands. Whatcha think about it?"

Solistal; Land of Knowledge and Hunters
northern mountain border of the continent, primarily dwarf citizens
Tumblr media
Zeynep Sümer on unsplash.
Games:
'Intellectual' games are the most common in Solistal, chess being the most popular. Otherwise, 'dragon taming', pop-up circus' and mega fauna hunting raids are also well loved. Solistal's soldiers and weapon and armour crafters enjoy Great Kettering's knight tourneys.
Clothes:
The most used clothing are furs and leathers in dull colours. Even royals wear 'plain' layers of leathers and a fur coat over the top. They are a generally prude-ish nation concerning clothing as nobody would want to be any colder unless there was something to gain. Even inside, they dress warm and practical overall. Dwarvish fashion is the easiest to pick out due to its dull practicality. However they do love accessories, especially in glitter. Their crowns, jewelry, pins, buttons, bags, buckles, piercings, are extravagant and sparkly.
Food:
The Solistal diet is mostly meat from their mega fauna hunting, fungi from their underground hydroponics, and other above ground plants. There is hunting, trapping and fishing here as they do not raise their own meat. There is little need to as they are the only nation that gets regular appearances of mega fauna, although some smaller, less connected towns may require additional sources of leather. Growing their own plants as food is the more reliable and stable source for them, sometimes while underground as well.
Animals/Plants:
Because this is fantasy Russia, the usual flora/fauna are going to mimic real life. So here I will talk about the fantasy creatures and how they interact with stuff and things. The list of creatures found in Solistal are dragons, shifters, fae, dryads, treants, vampires and griffins. They are generally passive and/or private creatures that will not go out of their way to harm people. Except vampires, although they have trouble hunting alone citizens as the buildings are so pressed close and overlapping that nobody can ever truly go missing without it being noticed quickly. Griffins are tamable and used in mega fauna hunts, yet are much more unruly than dogs or horses. Outside of fantastical creatures, dwarves enjoy keeping cats in their homes, treating them as 'shared' pets. With so many towns being built into the side of mountains, cats were great at hunting small pests that would try hiding inside as well. Their reflective piercing eyes are good for picking up the supernatural and/or magically inclined as well.

Where: Gizli Bahçe When: June 7, 2023 Who: @andrei-barysh Ayda was closing up the bar, she had sent her staff home for the night, and she had a few security with her, not wanting to chance it. The funeral went according to plan and it was hard for her to accept that Zeynep was really gone. She tossed the rag into the sink, her head looking up when the front door opened, a male walking in. He may not have one she had much interaction with, but she knew who he was.
“Evening, anything I can do for you?” She asks.

Characters: Carla Villanueva & Zeynep Turkmen (@zeynepxturkmen) Location: Condom Sense Closed Starter
Avoidance was a good way of dealing with things in Carla's book. She had carefully managed to avoid Zeyno for a long time. Awkwardness was something she wanted to push back in the past, especially now that she was perfectly happy in a relationship with Freddie. Yet she could only tempt luck for so long, until it all blew up in Nate's office. And seemingly in the middle of Condom Sense. Out of all the places in town. She had tried to act like she hadn't seen the other but when they both had reached out for the same pack of condoms, the last of its kind on the shelf, without realizing, it was just not possible. "Uh. It's fine. You can have it."

location: the comic lab
character: @zeynepxturkmen & maya.
In an effort to be open-minded and prioritize her brother's happiness, Maya had decided to pay a visit to the comic lab and greet Zeynep. If someone had asked her a few months ago, she would have hesitated, but now, making Jaiden smile again was worth it. Uncertain whether they would spend Thanksgiving together or not, she thought it would be best to have a brief conversation beforehand. Stepping into the small store, a small smile graced her face as she spotted Zeynep a few meters away. "Hi," she said softly, holding up the bag filled with snacks and coffee for them. "Jaiden mentioned these are your favorites, so I thought, why not? That's unless he lied, and you actually hate coffee."

location: summer bonfire bash
status: closed ( @zeynepxturkmen )
“Psst, want a brownie?” Hooking her chin over Zeyno's shoulder, Jeanie waved the tupperware box in front of her friend's face in lieu of a proper greeting. She'd spotted them from afar and wasted no time in loping around the bonfire to talk. It'd been a while since they hung out properly without talking business and plans, partly because Jeanie felt more than a little guilty. She didn't like keeping secrets from her friends, especially not when that secret was that she'd been rendezvousing in secret with he-who-shall-not-be-named. “Full disclaimer, they're funky. Not in the bad way. We actually remembered to strain the mixture this time. Fuller disclaimer, they bang. You may never want to eat anything else again. They're that good.”

hello dear followers
Today I will tell you about the AI integrated teaching material I made with my friend Zeynep Yurt. In creating this AI-integrated teaching material for high-school prep students, careful consideration was given to engaging and effective language learning experiences. The focus on party time vocabulary allowed for a dynamic exploration of language through a pre-task brainstorming session, a targeted task using the QuillBot AI tool for vocabulary enhancement, and a reflective post-task discussion. The sequential approach aimed to provide students with a comprehensive and interactive learning journey, utilizing technology to expand their vocabulary in a contextually relevant manner. The incorporation of QuillBot not only facilitated language refinement but also encouraged students to reflect on the nuances of word choices in expressing their ideas about party time.
You can go to my friend's blog and the work we did by clicking on it. I hope you will like it.

TikTok’s Algorithm
TikTok’s Algorithm and How it Works.
Like many other social media applications, TikTok uses an intricate algorithm to determine what videos and ads to push to a person's account. Unlike other platforms, you do not have to follow any of these influencers for their content to appear on your feed. The algorithm works based on likes, shares, saves, and comments. Although the people you follow can influence the content that appears, you do not need to follow someone to get their videos on your “ForYouPage.” (FYP). Another aspect considered when TikTok determines what is pushed out to a person is how long a person watches a video. The longer a person watches a type of content, the more it will appear, furthering its vacuum (Dias and Jeanavive, 2021). All these aspects of an algorithm combined steer a consumer down a certain content rabbit hole.
A person can become a “micro-target” for certain content within a few hours, creating an “echo-chamber” of various values and beliefs.  While it may not always be harmful, it can promote dangerous content and ideas into young people's minds. TikTok has been found to influence users' social, sexual, and cultural identities and can influence people to want to change themselves based on their “ForYouPage” (Dias and Jeanavive, 2021), so if your feed is full of videos on the same idea, from the same person, or the same topic reposted repeatedly by different people, it’s not surprising that the person may conform to these videos. When such a powerful algorithm is combined with young, impressionable minds, it becomes extremely easy to influence them and mold them into a person that aligns with toxic traits, gender roles, and sexist behavior.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
How the Algorithm can influence Behaviors and Ideas
Many different kinds of videos can be found on TikTok, and not all of them are concerning. That said, gender stereotypes are perpetuated within many TikTok videos and trends. Chapter two of Gendered Lives talks about how gender roles are social constructs that are learned during childhood and everyday experience (Kirk and Okazawa-Rey, 2020). These traditional roles can be harmful because it encourages men to be violent while at the same time telling women to be docile and to endure abuse (Allan G. Johnson). A theme in the essay Gender , Migration, and Exlie which can be found in Gendered Lives it discusses how throughout the world gender roles can be attributed to the reason why gender related violence is unreported (Kirk and Okazawa-Rey, 2020). When people watch videos on TikTok that have gender roles, it can cause an unconscious bias. This bias may appear as they interact with family, friends, classmates, and coworkers. Gender roles can appear through subtle trends and videos, demeaning jokes, or explicit videos that detail what a person should act like.

More info: on times I have forced myself to contain participatory performance installation Artist: idil (idilatasoy_ on instagram) Text: zeynep yılmaz (@zeeynepyilmaz on instagram)
WORK DESCRIPTION:
idil presents an interactive installation in the form of a tent that allows for the visitors to engage with it as they desire. Departing from the understanding of a carrier bag when it comes to narrative structures and storytelling (Le Guin), the artist invites you to take part in a collective effort to unpack individual experiences upon the tent, whether by adding new elements or subtracting existing parts throughout the exhibition.
This tent, the support for which is assembled using emptied food containers from Turkish restaurants, represents a safe haven in times of life’s uncertainties, heavy storms, and especially in regards to migratory movements. While acknowledging a sacred space for our true selves with all that they carry within, it simultaneously unravels safety’s ever-changing, non-static, multifaceted, temporal nature.
The act of constructing and modifying the tent together is a testament to the power of communities, personal journeys, diverse narratives and of the resilience needed in a world that often pushes us to move on. Conversely, in also inviting to deconstruct the tent spread over time, idil underlines the impermanence of stories and places, as a way to hold agency upon transforming and letting go structures that no longer serve us. As a way to reach what holds a chance at being ephemeral.
The tent bears an embodiment for our intimate narratives, as much as for the collective wisdom joining us in our endeavor, where and however it may be.

Module 4: Social Media and Social Movements
Social Movements and Social Media is a significant topic in modern society that represents a change in the ways people stand up for social and political causes. In the digital world, social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter have become some of the most powerful tools for promoting the voices of both people and groups and are the quickest way to make users aware of an issue.
“Transmedia organizing” is examined in Sasha Costanza-Chock and Manuel Castells’ “Walkout Warriors.” This is a strategy that employs a range of social media platforms to engage with a large audience, promote social or political causes, and ignite change. The most effective use of social media for social transformation occurs when it is coordinated with print and broadcast strategies, as well as with real-world actions” (Costanza & Castells, 61). This strategy is crucial because social media is essential to this environment. It gives activists the ability to communicate with allies directly, connect with a wide range of people, and provide real updates. This technique combines physical and online tactics to increase the influence of social movements.
A social movement known as #MeToo first blew up on social media in 2017 to bring attention to and end harassment and sexual assault. Following several high-profile individuals being accused of assault, the movement collected a lot of support. On social media sites like Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter, the hashtag rapidly gained attention as supporters and survivors came out and shared their own stories and showed solidarity for those who had come forward.
Zeynep Tufekci’s “Twitter and Tear Gas,” looks into how networked protests that use social media work. It is not directly about #MeToo, but its ideas can be used to describe the movement. According to the author, Digital technologies of connectivity affect how we experience space and time; they alter the architecture of the world - connecting people who are not physically near, preserving words and pictures that would otherwise have been ephemeral and lost in time," is especially relevant when it comes to this particular movement (Tufekci 114). How victims of assault and harassment interact with each other has been completely altered by the internet, which is demonstrated through #MeToo. People who live far apart come together through social media. The movement’s success is largely based on its ability to get past geographic limits. Furthermore, it makes use of the digital sphere to maintain experience that would usually disappear which produces a permanent documentation that heightens the impact. When everything is said and done, social media platforms have altered the current state of activism, connected people, and ultimately brought sexual assault and harassment to the public’s attention.
I wanted to speak on #MeToo because it lets survivors express what they have been through, quickly making people all around the world more alert, and encouraging people to become one. I have seen how it has held manipulators accountable and has kept these stories alive. The fact that people are still talking about sexual abuse shows how social media has a long-lasting effect on shedding light on important topics. #MeToo is a powerful instance of how platforms can give voices to those who don’t have it and push for real change.
How can we make sure that social media remains a place to give people power, make their voices heard, and build worldwide groups within social movements?
