This week, David tells you all about the Rapalje Zomerfolk Festival, held on the 24th and 25th of June in the Municipal Park of Groningen!

With less then two weeks to go, preparations for the 5th edition of the Rapalje Zomerfolk Festival are almost finished and who better to tell you about this wonderful folk lifestyle and music event, than our own David Myles!

It is the festival to be at if you love celtic music, traditional folk music, Irish music, Scottish music, Irish Folk Dance, Kilts, bagpipes and of course us from Rapalje!

Only 55 days until Zomerfolk 2017 and it’s time to announce another band in our line-up: Assassenachs!

So far 8 bands have been announced, but we are not done yet! After The Dublin Legends, Rebels if The Sacred Heart, Fling, Harmony Glen, Tannahill Weavers, Perkelt, Ferocious Dog and now you can add Assassenachs to the list of bands not to miss at Zomerfolk. The Assassenachs are playing a blend of Celtic folk and contemporary song writing that has pleased all ages of audiences for almost two decades. As you will see at our festival; it is very hard to sit still during their shows and luckily we don’t expect you to!

A tribute to Flogging Molly!

Rebels of the Sacred Heart: remember this name for this is the band you will party on at Zomerfolk 2017!

Rebels of the Sacred Heart plays songs from none other than the American folk punk sensation Flogging Molly and comes close, very close to the original. With only fantastic musicians, including lead singer Robin Slutter (former frontman of Scrum and current lead singer of Saints ‘n Sinners) and Sjoerd van Ravenzwaaij (Harmony Glen/Banjo Sjoerd), we are very excited about this addition to our festival. The lineup for Zomerfolk 2017 is becoming bigger than ever for our 5th edition and we have yet to announce a couple of bands! Are you there?

Folk Legends at Zomerfolk 2017!

This is no joke! The Dublin Legends (formerly known as The Dubliners) will play at the Rapalje Zomerfolk Festival 2017!

Who hasn’t heard of them: The Dubliners! These men formed one of the longest-established bands in the world and certainly one of the most successful. In 2012, John Sheahan quit the band and it seemed that after 50 years of Dubliners, the world had to do without these musical geniuses. But luckily this is not te case. The remaining members went on, now under the name The Dublin Legends, and continued their musical heritage. For Rapalje The Dubliners have always been a huge inspiration; for fans of both groups the show will therefore be extra special and unique!

We are proud to present the 5th band in our Zomerfolk 2017 line-up: Ferocious Dog!

Ferocious Dog is a six-piece band that plays folk with rock, reggae and Celtic influences. This band is famous and popular for their amazing live performances. The band stands for some sturdier folk and brings this, as befits a true punk-folk band, with a clear message in their lyrics, with which many fans will surely identify.

We therefore are very proud to welcome the band on our beautiful Zomerfolk festival and are convinced that they will have a huge party with you and us!
