Can you please do Zombieman head canons if he had disciple who’s super shy, sweet, and soft spoken a totally cant fight for shit who only has the power to create bubble shields and is just scared of fucking everything XD (I think it’d be super cute if he was so protective of them!) your choice if you want to make it platonic or not!
Tumblr media
A/N; aaaaah its been a loong while! I love this guy man, especially since i finally decided to read the manga. I hope ya like it!!
Zombieman Protective head cannons – Platonic & Romantic
Platonic
Being the disciple of one of the most renowned S-Class heroes, you were quite the contrary to your master. Unlike Zombieman, you were the soft-spoken, shy assistant that followed him around in every death-defying mission. Despite your small stature and timid nature, you were determined to be your master’s shield, to protect his life even if it meant your life would be at risk.
Zombieman however… didn’t agree with this sentiment of yours. After all, he agreed to take you under his wing, which meant he’d take care of you. The nihilistic male was skeptical at first when he heard of your appeal of becoming his disciple. You just didn’t seem to be the fighter sort of hero nor did you give off any heroic vibes.
You quickly proved him wrong by saving his undead ass him from getting crushed by a demon leveled threat. It was purely on impulse which prompted you to move, forgetting that he was called ‘Zombie’ for a reason you rushed to save him from certain death.
After that incident, Zombieman saw you in a new light. Despite your lack of combat skills, your sheer determination to save people in the sacrifice of your own life was enough to call you a worthy hero.
On the battlefield, Zombieman swore he’d keep you safe. He’d make sure you don’t do anything reckless like last time, he’s supposed to keep you safe not have you as his meat shield. He’d lightly scold you for not listening to him but your natural instinct made it hard not to go and protect him. Despite your fear of literally everything bad.
“[Name]! I told you to get back, I can handle it!” He said as a barrier of bubble formed in front of him, protecting him from the critical hit.
“I’m sorry but this is the only time I won’t follow your orders!” you yell back as you form another layer of reinforced bubbles to cover both of your sides.
Zombieman smirked at your uncharacteristically disobedience. “You better cover me then, I’m going for the kill”
From this point on, Zombieman considered you an equal. Someone he could rely on, more than the other heroes. If anyone were to pick on you or mock you, he’d come to the rescue.
As you were in a lower class than your mentor, you had been the subject of ridicule by some of the other ‘heroes’. Being the disciple of an S-class hero meant, you followed Zombieman in every one of those tedious S-class meetings. It was always uncomfortable to hear the comments from the other heroes and you would cower behind Zombieman whilst nervously clutch onto his coat.
He knew tatsumaki would not appreciate someone of lower class to be in those meetings, as she deems them inept, yet Zombieman couldn’t help but snap when she made a direct comment about you.
“This is a meeting for S-class heroes. Not some sort of social event for low classed heroes, anyone with a sense of self-worth would know not to come in” Her harsh words caused you to fall in a pit of anxiety and glue your eyes to your feet. Your unease was not relieved as Zombieman stayed quiet. Her rambling went on until he snapped.
“If you’re going to preach about self-worth and respect, maybe you should learn to take your own damn advice” The usually calm nihilist, snapped with his brows furrowed in annoyance.
He knew you were deeply uncomfortable being around the other heroes but he also eased your worries with a smile and a ruffle of your hair and reassuring words. You were truly lucky you had a mentor like Zombieman.
Romantic
Zombieman would never have imagined himself falling for anyone. Until you approached him with a certain goal in mind.
The male had noticed you on a few occasions but nothing came of it. You however, admired the nonchalant S-Class hero for his calm composure in the battlefield and from afar. With little confidence you had requested being the hero’s disciple, to teach you his ways of combat and such.
Contrary to his outward composure, he couldn’t logically think of the risks of you being his student, yet his heart seemed to make the decision of accepting you. You were understandably ecstatic to be working with your hero.
There were times where Zombieman would zone out and watch you evacuate citizens whilst he was supposed to fight the monsters. He admired the gentleness you had toward the lost children and helped the elderly get to a safe refuge, Zombieman would often find himself smiling as he watched you work. You were an honourable hero in his mind.
But in this line of work, there are risk that always follows. When you were caught in between two tiger levelled monsters whilst protecting a child, you knew this was an inevitable doom you couldn’t escape.
When you were admitted to the hospital, Zombieman blamed himself for leaving you alone. He was aware of your lack of combat skills and swore he’d keep you safe yet he couldn’t.
He sat there by your side, softly caressing your unconscious hand. The usually calm male felt his world crumble slowly as you laid there in a comatose state. Zombieman had never felt his heart clench and hurt as much as it did in that moment. When he had found you, he could feel his heart physically stop beating. You were in a bloodied state with several definite fractures.
“[Name], Please forgive me. If I…If I had been there in time…” He felt your hand curl around his which startled the poor guy.
“I don’t blame you Z. If you hadn’t come when you did…I wouldn’t be here with you right now” you said with a soft smile, your weak hand giving him a soft squeeze. You could make out small tears by the corners of his eyes.
“I swear I’ll keep you safe [name]. I won’t let anything happen to you, I… I don’t know what I’d do if I lost you” he said mournfully, his head gazing down at your hand.
“Z look at me, please” you said, his head slowly turned to look at you. You lifted your hand to caress his cold cheek and smiled your iconic gentle smiles.
“You saved me, thank you. You haven’t lost me yet, silly” you chuckled. In return Zombieman smiled a small smile, a warm sensation spread across his chest and his gut felt like it fluttered as he heard you laugh.
“[Name]… I want to be able to truly protect you. I wish we were more than mentor and disciple, I-“Before he could finish, you let out another small giggle. A soft red hue passed Zombieman’s pale face.
“I want to be with you too Z” you said, a smile still present on your gentle features. Zombieman let out a relieved sigh and leaned to peck your cheek. Finally, you found someone who gave your life meaning and encouraged you to become a better hero the same could be said for Zombieman.

Priest/Possessed AU, part 2.1
Warnings: more zombies
[previous]
Genos woke early, as he usually did, though this time it was to the sound of the metal bath being dragged around outside the shack. At first his drowsy mind couldn't figure out the scraping and clanking, and for a split second he was gripped with the certainty he was under attack.
It only lasted long enough for him to sit up and throw off his blanket, and then he saw the dusty shelves and his own clothing hanging from the ceiling beams, and he remembered.
He was safe. That was a long time ago.
Genos pulled his fingers away from the mark on his chest and checked his clothes. The under layer was dry but the cassock could use a little longer. Peering through the windows Genos saw it was only barely dawn, so he stoked the fire up again and went back to bed.
The next time he woke was a more reasonable hour. Genos washed standing up with water heated on the wood stove and a cloth, reluctant to retrieve the tub from outside when Saitama had seemed so fond of it. Cool baths were a good method of lowering body temperature, though when Genos was possessed his demon hadn't bothered with petty punishment like that.
No... It wasn't necessary when Genos was willing to go along with anything he said.
He dried off and dressed, and came outside to find Saitama sitting on the steps reading a book.
"Mornin'," he said, snapping it shut and standing up. "I got stuff for breakfast but I didn't know if you'd rather cook it inside. Didn't want to make a fire too close to the building here."
"I can cook," Genos said, allowing himself to feel confident. He had needed Saitama's help twice yesterday, but he could make breakfast.
What Saitama meant by "got stuff" turned out to be a grouse and some wild onions and greens Genos didn't recognize. But you couldn't go wrong with boiling.
"Do you do that a lot?" Genos asked as they sat beside each other on the steps of the shack, eating from the battered old ceramic bowls from inside.
"Do what?" Saitama replied, mouth full of plants.
"Gather food from the woods?"
Saitama shrugged before swallowing. "I don't always get paid when I help folks. Not that I blame 'em, I'm not doing this for money, and some folks just can't afford to spare anything."
"Couldn't you get a job somewhere as a soldier or a guard?"
"Sure. I was a guard for a duke for a while. I hated it." Saitama shoved another bite of food in his mouth, effectively ending that line of questioning. "Do you get paid much?" he asked, before Genos could think of something else to say.
"Well, no, not really. But I don't have many needs. I only have myself to feed and clothe, when I stay in one place for a while it's usually a church so I don't have to pay a landlord."
"Hm. Not a bad gig if you can get it."
"There are... down sides," Genos admitted. Saitama didn't press. "And the training is very difficult," he added. "Like you said, it's 'if you can get it.' Many people can't memorize the chants and traditions, and when it comes to things like laying the deceased to rest there is no room for error."
"Yeahhhh, I get that." Saitama leaned over to pick up his cup, and Genos took the opportunity to peek at his back. The signature of the demon seemed familiar, like he'd encountered it in his private research, but he couldn't remember how it was read.
And then Genos noticed the way his tight trousers were pulled down from his movement, and the glimpse of his toned backside was so distracting Genos almost forgot to look away when Saitama sat back up.
"So what's the plan? Are you supposed to be leading services today or anything?"
The chapel was on the far edge of town, but from here Genos could still see most of the only street, and the handful of houses and businesses there. Most of the villagers would be more spread out, on their own land. But none of the had come expecting a sermon.
"Doesn't look like anyone cares. I took confessions yesterday, performed a wedding, and I saw to the dead. That's all I have to do." He glanced at Saitama. "Unless you'd like to be preached to?"
Saitama snorted. "Would it make a difference?"
"Not at this point."
"Thanks for the offer, Father, but I'll pass." He stood up and stretched, muscles flexing under his skin. "I'm ready to go when you are, then."
It didn't take Genos long to gather up his things. He traveled as light as possible given all the scenarios he had to prepare for. Two holy books, small bottles of sanctified oil and water, prayer beads, saint medallions. As well as the basic supplies for camping if he had to.
Saitama had a slightly smaller bag, but Genos could see a second set of leather shoulder armor sticking out of the flap. The set he wore only covered one shoulder, like it had originally been for an archer or someone who required unimpeded movement. But to the average country person, they'd see armor and know Saitama was a soldier of some kind.
Genos left food and water for the cats, locked up the shack, and without any further ado they hit the road. He never had found the hole where the mother cat snuck inside, but if she got herself in she could get herself out.
The morning was still chilly, but moving kept Genos warm. Moving, and the fact that he trailed a couple paces behind Saitama to watch him walk.
They talked a little. Mostly about the weather and whether they'd been to the next city before. They both had, as it turned out. The city -- technically just a large town -- was big enough to have a real church, so Genos had planned on spending the night there and giving the local priest a day off as payment. But Saitama being with him added complications.
"Does this guy know you're coming?" Saitama asked.
"He knows he's on my route, but not when to expect me. There can be delays."
"I don't mind staying at an inn. I won't be offended if you don't keep me company this whole trip." A thoughtful look crossed Saitama's face. "Actually if you give me directions and a letter of introduction, I could probably go alone."
"It's not a good idea," Genos said, reluctantly. Though the idea of keeping Saitama as eye candy for the next couple weeks was appealing, the truth was more complicated. "The priests there won't have any reason to believe that you can control the demon, especially such a high ranking one. They might hold you in a cell for a few weeks to be safe."
Saitama didn't say anything, but he was scowling.
"And if I didn't accompany you, I'd be reprimanded for irresponsibility."
"But you're not!" Saitama exclaimed. "You know I'm not a danger to anybody."
"I know that, but no one else does. It's better to play it safe. High ranking demons can be very good at saying what you want to hear."
"That's true," Saitama muttered. "This guy," he pointed at his head, "keeps telling me I can screw anybody I want, consequence free."
"Is that what you want to hear?" Genos asked, heart rate picking up.
"It's what everybody who is interested in sex wants to hear."
"That's probably true," Genos admitted.
Saitama hesitated for a second, and when he spoke up he sounded hesitant. "And it's... not, right?"
"What's not?"
"There's... consequences? Soul-wise? For having a bunch of sex?"
Genos remembered what the demon had used Saitama's mouth to say yesterday, that he was great at it. "The short answer is yes. There are consequences."
Saitama's face fell.
"But mostly small ones. And there are always exceptions. Like marriage."
"Marriage," Saitama muttered. "And let me guess; the consequences are twice as bad if they're married to someone else?"
"Oh." Genos hadn't thought Saitama was the type of person to have affairs... But then, Genos had only known him a day. Just because Saitama seemed noble and selfless now didn't mean he always had been. "Breaking a vow has consequences, yes."
They walked a few steps in silence, Saitama's expression dark. Genos couldn't see it perfectly from behind him, but his shoulders were tight and he was keeping a vice grip on his bag's strap. Uncomfortable, worried, guilty maybe?
Genos asked, because it would eat him up if he didn't, "Are you still married?"
Saitama looked back at him in confusion. "What? I never have been."
"Oh. Oh!" Then he meant he'd been the other man. "Well helping someone break a vow is still consequential, but not as much as breaking one yourself. If you didn't know it's not much of anything."
"Really?" Saitama perked up immediately. "That's something, at least."
Taking confession from Saitama would be a bit awkward, considering what Genos wanted to do to him, and it was probably pointless until they got that demon out of him. He'd need to do a lot of penance anyway just to make sure his soul was protected after already being breached once. It would be simpler to combine it.
Genos opened his mouth to tell him all this, to reassure him, when a sound like a gurgling moan came from the trees.
Immediately Saitama backed up and stretched out his arm, head swiveling around, other hand clenched into a fist. "Stay close to me."
Technically out of the two of them Genos was the only one who could stop a risen corpse from attacking. But Saitama had been able to hold one in its grave yesterday without so much as breaking a sweat, so he had a point in trying to protect Genos from harm.
They stood back-to-back, turning in a slow circle. The moans came more than once, but it was hard to place the direction. This part of the forest was thick with trees and bushes and birds, and the road had been here so long it had been worn a couple feet lower than the ground around it. The corpse could be anywhere.
But after one long drawn-out groan, Saitama snapped his head toward the direction they'd originally been going, and ordered, "Stay here!" before vaulting the dirt bank and charging into the trees.
Genos took two steps, his rebellious instincts overriding his respect for Saitama, but stopped before following him off the road. It was dangerous for both of them, especially since risen dead tended to gather in groups if they survived long enough to find another of their kind.
From a short distance away, Genos heard Saitama exclaim, "Shit!" And then a disgusted, "Oh god." And finally he called, "Father, looks like this one is for you after all."
Genos climbed up the embankment, still muddy from yesterday's rain, the chill keeping it from drying overnight. The bushes and plants were thick and his robe snagged several times before he found where Saitama waited. And once he saw what Saitama was waiting with, Genos copied his cry of disgust. "Oh god!"
A body was hanging from a tree with a noose around its neck. The face was bloated and rotted, part of its tongue lost to birds but the rest hanging out of its mouth. Its arms had been tied behind its back, but it managed to pull them loose after death by ripping much of the flesh off the wrists and forearms.
But it wasn't the things that happened after the body rose that were so horrifying. It was covered in deep cuts, slash marks, like it had been tortured. Except there was no sign of any blood, not even old and dried, indicating the man had already been dead when he was cut up. The body was also naked, except for the remains of sleeves on his hands, as if the executioners had decided to slice off his clothing instead of untying him. His genitals were still intact, though just as rotted as the rest of his body, meaning the birds hadn't gotten to it before he returned.
"Awful," Saitama murmured. "I mean this guy might have been a murderer or a rapist, but you just cut his throat and move on. There's no need for this."
"It's not that." It was hard to tell with the way the skin had peeled back from the cuts, but it looked like the man had the word "bastard" carved into his chest. "It's not just that," Genos amended. "They did this on purpose. They left his body unburied and desecrated it after he died. They wanted him to rise again."
Saitama shook his head. "They didn't want him to be able to rest? If he was really so awful, isn't it enough to know he's going to hell?"
"They got it wrong, anyway." Genos set down his pack, well out of grabbing range of the hanging corpse, and started digging out the appropriate supplies. "That's not why bodies rise."
"Huh?"
"This man's soul is already gone wherever it's going. The part of him that was him is resting as much as it can. This," Genos gestured at the corpse, which had managed to brace its feet on the tree trunk and was scrabbling its ruined hands in Saitama's direction. "Is a collection of low-ranking demons trying to cause havoc and fear."
"Well they're succeeding," Saitama said, watching the thing with pity. "Everybody's afraid of the risen dead."
"It's normal to be afraid of something that can kill you." Genos took his sanctified oil and a little rod to sprinkle it with, standing back so the corpse couldn't grab him. "There's a lot of misconceptions though. It doesn't matter how holy you were in life. As long as the body hasn't been buried properly, and it still has enough meat left to move, demons might try to possess it."
Saitama watched as Genos began his chant, and waited until he'd finished the first recitation to ask, "So it doesn't matter that I had to piss on that one in the graveyard yesterday?"
"No, master, after it's already risen you can't desecrate it more."
"That's a relief. I was worried I'd made it harder for you."
Genos flicked some oil at the corpse, making it groan around its swollen tongue. It didn't flinch though, and its feet slipped off the trunk, leaving it swaying from the noose.
It took two more recitations, then the flesh dried up into dust, leaving only a skeleton hanging there. No more evidence of what had been done to it.
"Let's do something about this." Saitama pulled a knife from his boot and started sawing at the rope. "Have you got a shovel?"
"I do. A small one, but it's better than nothing."
“True enough. Let's give this poor bastard a burial."

I've found a lot of odd ships through your blog, but Drive x Zombieman might be one of the strangest. It's pretty interesting though! How do you think they'd sorta form a friendship that led to them being in a relationship? How do they interact with each other?
Hey anon,
I know this asks is VERY LATE LMFAO but in my defense I hardly use this blog anymore ;v; But tbh I have no idea :^) Like the thing that came to mind was: Drive and Zombieman ended up cornered by the same villain attacking them. Let’s say this villain is no S-class villain, just some lower ranked baby who somehow got ZM and Drive stuck in little black box. ZM and Drive attacked the walls, trying to find some way out, but it’s no use! The two are completely stuck in this ridiculous villain’s box.Minutes feel like hours, and hours felt like days, and days felt like months and etc etc. But instead of freaking out, I imagined ZM and Drive to be stoic and collected. They are unbothered by the situation, knowing they will be out by the help of some other hero. Both heroes sit crossed legged on the floor, leaning against the wall and sitting but a foot of each other. They haven’t spoke a word since getting caught in this mess, but the silence is becoming too unbearable. There’s this ugly tension in the air, an both heroes are awkward in conversation, so it’s hard to say who will cut through the thick atmosphere first. But then, finally, Drive spoke first, “Is it true what they say? You’re immortal?” Zombieman doesn’t answer right away, just blatantly staring at the black wall ahead of him. But soon, ZM is pulling out a little pocket knife he had in pocket, and goes to jab it into his palm. He pulls back, showing the knight his regeneration skills.“Amazing,” Drive spoke, cupping his own chin with his hand. He then proceeds to crawl a bit closer to ZM, who is unfazed by how the other practically sat in between his open legs and touched his skin without consent. It happens all the time, but ZM has never met someone so invested on him. ZM isn’t even comfortable with scientists wanting to study his unique abilities, but he’ll give Drive special permissions, simply because Drive’s red dot for an eye intrigued him, with the way it swished back and forth. “You’re quite a sight for sore eyes,” the knight would comment, a norm to be complimental for Drive, but this is as much as ZM has ever heard him spoke. “I suppose,” ZM spoke, shrugging his shoulders as Drive went as far as moving ZM’s arms up and down, watching as they move their joints like a normal person.THen the two spent the next few minutes speaking to each other, well, more so Drive then ZM. Drive spent most of his time asking questions after question, not really letting ZM answer anything since he keeps getting lost in his own thoughts about meeting creatures close to being like ZM. ZM actually ends up cracking a smile, just enjoying the way the other hero continue to blabber on about who knows what. But the fun is over as the box they were in suddenly shatters open, and Drive and ZM are soon brought back to reality. Mumen Rider waves at them happily, with a few bruises on his face, and even goes to apologize for the delay but happily reports that the villain is taken care of!ZM and Drive go there separate ways after that, but~ like every cliche love story, these babies just can’t stop thinking about each other. Drive wants to study ZM further, while ZM is intrigued that someone is interested in his abilities and not utterly freaked out by a Zombie. They meet finally, once again by an S-class hero meeting. ZM and drive sat beside each other, subconsciously, and as soon at the meeting is over, the two make conversation, again Drive making most of the “small talk”.  And agree to exchange emails so ZM can give Drive the promise of running tests on his abilities. How do they end up together you say? They don’t :^) Well, not at first. There’s a lot of denial with their feelings, especially ZM who seems dedicated to being a hero over wanting to be in a relationship. Wouldn’t being in a relationship bring harm? Drive is just afraid he will get ZM killed with his abilities. No one has ever seen his powers and lived, so what if that one enemy escapes, and takes his aggression out on ZM? Technically both heroes forgot the other isn’t an S-class hero for nothing. So it takes a long while for the two to finally decide, “I want to be with him…!”But what triggers it? Well, say ZM was helping Drive search for something in a tight, cramped closet, and say someone, Saitama(haha), accidentally bumped the door closed with lock. ZM and Drive are scrambling to find the light switch, and once the light goes on, but heroes are chest to chest, staring directly into each others eyes. ZM his a light flush on his cheeks, while Drive is seemingly unfazed, but he’s totally internally freaking out. Then, Drive, like always, makes the first move. His hands go to pull ZM close to chest, into a tight hug. He lets out a hot breath through the slits of his armored mouth. ZM, surprised, just leans into the other, hands going to grab the others hip. “I want this…,” Drive says huskily, hugging ZM tight enough for their bodies to meld against each other. “Do you?”“For so long…,” ZM whispers, angling his head to grae his lips awkwardly over the cold metal of Drives armor. And thats what I can come up with tbh :^)Anon, let me just say I stopped reading OPM because the updates were annoyingly long ;v; so I have some catching up to do.  The last i remember, Garou was fighting Dog man :^)  LMFAO sorry for the mistakes. got too lazy to fix them lmfao

Still catching up.
Spanking
Saitama x Zombieman
Zombieman started hanging out with Saitama after they helped each other out with a monster. Then things changed, they started seeing each other for sex. Sometimes things would break. There was never a time where they weren't rough.
This time was no different.
Saitama was tied up this time, Zombie better at bounding someone up than the bald man. Zombie always gained a flutter feeling in his chest when Saitama never broke the ropes. He would just sit there, watching Zombie pick out a "torture" tool on the dresser in the motel.
A step up from their first fling.
Zombie hummed, picking up a leather paddle between all the other toys he had. Zombie turned to look at Saitama, who was watching him still.
Zombie walked over, using the paddle to line along Saitama's defined abs, going up to his chin. Zombie used the paddle to slap him lightly, slapping him on the arm a bit harder after that.
Gradually he slapped about everywhere he could reach, Saitama not even flinching, just watching him. He went to go swing again, but a hand grabbed his wrist. Zombie finding himself pinned to the bed on his stomach.
Saitama had grabbed the paddle as he pinned Zombie down, the S class hero feeling a sharp sting against his bare ass, and than a hand rubbing along the area.
Zombie didn't know how many times this has happened, where Saitama gets bored and decides to switch places. Zombie never really minded. And Saitama always made sure he remembered their safe word in case he didn't like it.
Zombie yelled at a harsher sting against his thigh, feeling Saitama's free hand pin his hands above his head. Saitama pulled his pants off the rest of the way, using the paddle to run along the inside of Zombie's thighs, causing him to shiver at the feeling. He felt Saitama's hand move his cheeks, exposing his hole.
"Ngh," Zombie bit off, feeling the sting of the paddle there.
He heard something drop on the floor, quickly feeling the heard of Saitama's dick slowly enter him, a hand on his ass and his hip.
It wasn't long before Saitama moved when he was fully inside, starting slow, knowing it'd drive Zombie up the wall, who was trying to urge him to move faster by kicking him.
Zombie gasped at the sting, feeling Saitama rub at the spot as he moved, slowly picking up the pace.
After a few more slaps on Zombies behind he finally gained what he wanted when Saitama slammed right into his prostate, making him yell out. And after that they're moans, groans, and grunts where probably heard by the unlucky folks next door.
Saitama pulled out flipped him over and slammed back in, Zombie trying to his his face, and gaining a slap on his wrist, which was soon pinned above him.
He never got used to this position, but Saitama seemed to enjoy watching him, who was currently slamming into him over and over again, drinking up the moans he pulled from Zombie.
"Close," Saitama grunted. After a few more thrust he pulled out and spurted onto Zombie's stomach, soon grabbing Zombies erection and pumping him until he came with a moan.
Zombie stayed on the bed how Saitama left him, who had entered the bathroom like usual. The S class hero had closed his eyes, trying to catch his breath instead of thinking about the feelings bubbling up. He snapped them open when he felt cloth touch him.
"Relax," Saitama told. "Just cleaning you up," Zombie tried to sit up, instead being pushed back down, and held there, Saitama finishing cleaning up the last of it. He left briefly and came back, crawling into the bed, patting the side beside him.
Zombie was too tired to argue so he joined the bald man, soon being pulled close with arms wrapped around him, a quick peck on his forehead.

Because I like shipping and statistics, I guess.
(Sort of prompted by this post. ...Or maybe it was this post.) So, here's me, looking at all my ships and deciding if they (and their canon relationship) count as the “emotional heart of the story”, OR if I were to reach in and rip them (primarily their relationship) out, would the story be torn apart? YES = they are necessary to the story! NO = the story would get on fine without their relationship UNCLEAR = their relationship has an uncertain importance to the plot Before you read the whole long list (and keep in mind, these are just my ships, and not even all of them, and just my opinions), have some statistics. TOTAL SHIPS = about 87 YES ships = 56 (m/m = 28, f/m = 28) NO ships = 15 (m/m = 9, f/m = 6) UNCLEAR ships = 16 (m/m = 8, f/m = 7, f/f = 1) and because the original intent of this post (as mentioned here) was to see if m/m ships tend to be the “emotional heart of the story” (aka do I mostly ship m/m and is that why?) : M/M ships = 45 (YES = 28, NO = 9, UNCLEAR = 8) F/M ships = 41 (YES = 28, NO = 6, UNCLEAR = 7) F/F ships = 1 ^^; (UNCLEAR = 1) And have one more set of stats, dealing with if these ships are canon or not. (“Mostly Canon” are ships whose canon status is debatable, like it was never explicitly stated, or it's an option, like in some games.) CANON = 27 (m/m = 5, f/m = 21, f/f = 1) Mostly CANON = 12 (m/m = 2, f/m = 10) Not Canon = 48 (m/m = 38, f/m = 10) So, I could probably stand to analyze these stats a little more, but the overall takeaways I'm getting are these: – My ships are fairly evenly SPLIT between m/m and f/m. – MOST of my ships are relevant to the overarching story of the series. --Most of my ships are NOT CANON, but not by a huge margin. --The “heart of the story” is SPLIT between m/m and f/m ships in my favorite series. Feel free to scroll through my 87 ships, if you want to see how I labeled them (“heart of the story”, versus not). Includes some reasoning, in most cases. Ships (or their series, in a few cases) listed under the cut: Killugon, Leopika, Oumugi, Cobymeppo, UsoNa, ZoLu, Hanna/Zombie, McHanzo, Reaper76, Roadrat, Promptis, Gladnis, DekuMight, Mammet, Genosai, Victuri, Destiel, Shakarian, Jaal/Ryder, Newmann, R/Julie, Kataang, Zukaang, Korrasami, Wuko, Gigolas, ZADR, Wolfstar, Fawkes/LW, Gob/LW, Nick/SS, Trying Human, Otasune, Bosselot, Torikoma, Noragami, Oremo, Gamako, JeanMarco, CLAMP, Taibani, Tiger/Bunny, Okabe/Kurisu, 93, 58, Otani/Koizumi, Doctor/Rose, Johnlock, Sterek, Hannigram, Rumbelle, Hopurai, Sorriku, Akuroku, Leo/Ezio, Haytham/Ziio, JakDax, Nate/Elena, Lutecest, GoldenHeart, Mitjo, Blackice, Felix/Calhoun, Om/Shanti, Grocket, Max/Furiosa, Capable/Nux, Seregil/Alec, Thom/Goran, Diana Wynne Jones, Robin McKinley, Jesse/Suze, Mabelmando, Muck, Vito/Wilhelm, Lewis/Vivi, Fry/Leela, Goliath/Elisa. Good lord I can't believe I typed those all out. Well, anyway. Now you don't have to bother clicking through just to satisfy your curiosity, if none of those piques your interest.
Hunter x Hunter: --Gon/ Killua : YES, Gon and Killua's relationship IS the heart of the story. Without their intense friendship, many of the plot points in the story would never have happened. While Gon may still have found his father, the whole story would be extremely different, perhaps to the point of unrecognizability. –Leorio/Kurapika : NO. Unfortunately, as much as I love them, their relationship is not strictly integral to the story. --Meruem/Komugi : (mostly canon) YES. While it's not the entire story, their relationship IS vital to the fate of both characters and that particular arc. One Piece: --Coby/Helmeppo : UNCLEAR. While Coby and Helmeppo are not main characters, Coby was a catalyst in the early part of the series, and will probably be important again towards the end. Also, while Coby could have gotten where he is without Helmeppo, Helmeppo would likely not be who he is now without Coby, making Coby integral to Helmeppo's story. --Usopp/Nami : NO. I love them a lot, and they're both important to the story in different ways, but their relationship is not strictly necessary. --Zoro/Luffy : UNCLEAR. Obviously, Luffy is the main character, and Zoro is also super important. The story probably could have gotten where it was going without Zoro's involvement, but there have definitely been several key points which would have been different without him. (Early one, especially, and the end of Thriller Bark.) This one might require more thought. Hanna Is Not A Boy's Name: Hanna/{Zombie} : YES. While the story may still have happened without {…} (Conrad still showing up that night), the entire story would have had a different tone, as {…} is the narrator, and certain key events would have played out differently. Overwatch: McCree/Hanzo : NO. Admittedly, they don't have a lot to do with each other in canon, no matter how much I like them. Soldier 76/Reaper : YES. Their story was vital to the formation of Overwatch as we know it. Roadhot/Junkrat : NO. Not exactly vital to the overall story, although they do seem fairly important to each other. Final Fantasy XV:   Noctis/Prompto and Gladio/Ignis : NO. I mean, I love the ships, but technically neither of these ships are really super important to the overall story. I would be willing to listen to arguments for this one though, since obviously the relationship between the four of them actually is super important. Boku no Hero Academia: Izuku/All Might : YES. Nothing would have happened in this series if it weren't for the relationship between these two. Not only would Izuku be lacking the power to succeed, he'd have been lacking the training and also possibly the inspiration. Likewise, All Might would likely have stagnated, instead of grown as a character. Back to the Future: Marty/Doc : YES. There would be literally no point to the entire series without either character or their relationship exactly as it is. One Punch Man: Saitama/Genos : YES. Although it may be debatable, I believe that Genos' involvement with Saitama is critical to the story. Is it, at very least, critical to Genos' growth. Yuri on Ice!!: Viktor/Yuuri : (canon) YES. Canon-gay main characters; kind of the point of the story. Supernatural: Dean/Castiel : YES. Though Dean and Sam's relationship is probably still more important, I would definitely argue that most of the plot from season 4 on could not have happened without Castiel's involvement with Dean. Mass Effect: Shepard/Garrus : (mostly canon) UNCLEAR. Garrus was fairly important to the story, especially early on, but even if he had never come around at all, the story would have been about the same. However, since you get to determine the story to some degree, you could say their relationship is about as important as you make it. Ryder/Jaal : (mostly canon) UNCLEAR. About the same as above. Their relationship was important, but not significantly moreso than other characters'. Pacific Rim: Newton/Hermann : YES. Without them working together, the plot would not have been resolved. (One could even argue their arguing was critical to the story.) Warm Bodies: R/Julie : (canon) YES. Like most of my other book ships, these two were written with each other in mind. Avatar/Legend of Korra: Katara/Aang : (canon) YES. Though the story could have got along without their romantic involvement, their general relationship was absolutely vital to the plot. Zuko/Aang : YES. Their relationship provided most of the conflict from the early half, and much of the character development from the later half. Korra/Asami : (canon) UNCLEAR. If they had been only acquaintances, the plot would likely have carried on mostly the same, however the ending would have been different, of course. Mako/ Wu : NO. Their relationship made a couple of plot points in the last season, but the story would have got by okay without it. The Lord of the Rings: Gimli/Legolas : NO, although I'd be willing to hear arguments to this one. I don't recall that their relationship was particularly necessary to the plot's resolution. Invader Zim: Zim/Dib : YES. Literally the entirety of the story would be pointless without their relationship. Harry Potter: Sirius/Remus : YES. Primarily in the 3rd book/movie, but the story would have gone drastically differently if not for their past friendship. It would likely have had a huge butterfly effect. Fallout 3: Fawkes/Lone Wanderer : YES. Fawkes was key in helping get the GECK, and also having LW, y'know, not die in the DLC. If Fawkes didn't massively respect the LW, the LW would just be shit out of luck. And also dead. Gob/Lone Wanderer : NO. Poor Gob's just stuck slaving away as a bartender. Hell I don't think you even have to talk to him once to advance the story. =[ Fallout 4: Nick Valentine/Sole Survivor : YES. Nick is instrumental in helping SS find their son, and if it weren't for his respect for them, SS would have a very difficult time with several legs of the journey. And don't get me started on how their backstories are a mirror of each other! Trying Human: Rose/Hue, Longus/Don, Philena/EBE1, Quazky/Gracelis, FJ12/Pigment : (canon) YES. The charm of a good webcomic, eh? =D Metal Gear Solid: Snake/Otacon : YES. Moderately important in MGS1, Otacon and Snake's relationship becomes crucial in 2 and 4. Also, “Can love bloom on the battlefield?” Yes, Otacon. Yes it can. (I'd write a manifesto about these two if I had the energy.) Big Boss/Ocelot : YES. Quite a lot of the entire series would never have happened if it weren't for Ocelot's hero-worship crush on Big Boss. It's pretty important. Toriko: Toriko/Komatsu : YES. To be fair, I haven't read/watch this series in years, but the earlier parts of the series put a lot of focus on the budding partnership between these two characters. Ugh, talk to me about the part where they climb a giant beanstalk in order to eat a heart-shaped vegetable in tandem to commemorate their partnership. Geez. It's a little hard to say if their relationship was vital to the actual plot, because I'm still not sure what the plot was, but it was definitely vital to the story. Noragami: Yato/Hiyori : (mostly canon) YES. As the main characters, the story revolves mostly around them, and if they didn't care for each other, there would be no reason for half of the events to happen. Kazuma/Bishamon : (mostly canon) UNCLEAR. At least one key backstory event only occurred because of their relationship, but the story might have happened similarly without it. Kofuku/Daikoku : (mostly canon) NO. I love them, but the story could probably exist okay without them. Ore Monogatari: Takeo/Yamato : (canon) YES, but obviously, as it's a romantic comedy. The story is literally all about them. Kill la Kill: Gamagoori/Mako : NO. Although they featured together in a few important scenes, the story could have progressed without them ever being in the same frame. Attack on Titan: Jean/Marco : NO. The entire story would have probably been just fine without them, although Jean might be a different person without Marco's influence. CLAMP: (mostly canon) YES. I'm just gonna go ahead and say that all of my ships from CLAMP series are vital to both the story and the characters' growth. This might be an exaggeration, but only slightly. Tiger&Bunny: Kotetsu/Barnaby: YES. Because, obviously, what's Tiger&Bunny without Tiger and Bunny? The story would have gone nowhere without either of them, and the focus on their growing relationship was super important. Steins;Gate: Okabe/Kurisu : (mostly canon) YES. The plot forces the relationship between Okabe and Kurisu in an interesting way, so it is sort of super relevant. Saiyuki: Sanzo/Goku : YES. Gojyo/Hakkai : UNCLEAR. To be honest, I just haven't watched the series in a while, so I'm a little cloudy on the finer points of this ship. I'd say they're important, and from what I remember they are important to each other's story, but I don't recall how vital their relationship is to the overall plot. Lovely Complex: Otani/Koizumi : (canon) YES, because it's a romantic comedy and these are the two main characters. Doctor Who: Doctor/Rose : (canon) YES. In love with two different Doctors, and (as far as I know) the only one to end up with one permanently! Their relationship was so damn important that it came back even after Rose retired as a companion! Sherlock: Sherlock/John : YES. The series wouldn't even remotely exist without their relationship. Teen Wolf: Stiles/Derek : NO. The necessity of either character to the overall plot is debatable; they certainly didn't have to interact in order for the series to continue, even if those were some of the best scenes. Hannibal: Hannibal/Will : YES. Though I never caught up with the series, it was clear even from the very start of season 1 that the relationship between these two was the drive of the whole story. Once Upon a Time: Rumpelstiltskin/Belle : (canon) UNCLEAR. Though they're both important to each other and other characters at multiple points in the story, their relationship is probably not all that important to the other characters. (To be fair, this is based mostly off of seasons 1 and 2.) Final Fantasy XIII: Hope/Lightning : NO? It's been a while since I played the game, and while I love Hope, I seem to recall that he wasn't terribly important? (Was anybody important in that game? What even was the plot??) Kingdom Hearts: Sora/Riku : YES. I mean, Sora did spend pretty much forever searching for Riku, and Riku did spend basically the whole time being a pain. Axel/Roxas : UNCLEAR. Roxas' existence and story probably could have happened without Axel. But to be honest, it's Kingdom Hearts; I could never remember all the fine details. Assassin's Creed: Leonardo/Ezio : UNCLEAR. I mean, Ezio would have died or failed several times without Leo's inventions, but Leo himself wasn't strictly necessary. Haytham/Ziio : (canon) YES. Well, Conner wouldn't exists without them, so. Jak and Daxter: Jak/Daxter: YES. There would have been literally no point to the series if it weren't for their relationship. Uncharted: Nate/Elena : (canon) UNCLEAR. A rare female love interest, Elena was there from the very beginning and throughout the whole series, kicking ass and helping the plot along. Could the series have gone on without her and Nate's intricate relationship? Probably. But who would have wanted that? Bioshock Infinite: Robert/Rosalind : (mostly canon) YES. Only because of their fantastic weird obsession with science and themselves was the cross-dimensional travel that made the plot happen even possible. Nimona: Blackheart/Goldenloin : (mostly canon) YES. Their relationship is central to the backstory, and the later parts of the story. Long Exposure: Mitchel/Jonas : (canon) YES. Again, because it is a webcomic, and they're specifically written with each other in mind. Rise of the Guardians: Jack/Pitch : UNCLEAR. While both are critical to the story, it probably could have gone on fine without their interactions. However, Jack's personal arc wouldn't have had the same emotion without Pitch's involvement. Wreck-it Ralph: Felix/Calhoun : (canon) UNCLEAR. Their relationship was a key point in the story, but the overall plot could have probably happened without it. Om Shanti Om: Om/Shanti // Om/Sandy : (mostly canon) YES. Without Om's love for Shanti, the entire second half of the plot wouldn't have worked out. Sandy's love for Om was also critical. Guardians of the Galaxy: Rocket/Groot : YES. I think it's safe to say that the whole crew would have died if it weren't for Groot, and it's unlikely that he would have been there in such a capacity without his partnership with Rocket. Mad Max: Fury Road: Max/Furiosa : (canon) YES. Story couldn't go anywhere without them, and their relationship was important at certain points. Capable/Nux : (canon) YES. Though their relationship was not vital to the overall story, it played a huge part in the resolution. Nightrunner: Seregil/Alec : (canon) YES. Canon-gay main characters, obviously the story goes nowhere without them. HERO: Thom/Goran : (canon) UNCLEAR. Though the relationship between the characters is a key element in the story, it probably could have happened pretty similarly even if the two did not develop a romantic involvement. (Would've been a different story; still, Thom's other relationships are roughly as important.) Diana Wynne Jones' books: Howl/Sophie, Vierran/Mordian, Tom/Penny, etc : (canon) YES. All main characters, written with the intention of being involved with each other, they are vital to their stories. Robin McKinley's books: Narl/Rosie, Cecily/Little John, Beauty/Beast, etc : (canon) YES (mostly). Main characters written to revolve around each other, with the exception of Cecily and Little John, whose relationship was probably not strictly necessary for the overall story. The Mediator: Jesse/Suze: (canon) YES. Same deal with my other canon book ships: they were literally made for each other. Gravity Falls: Mabel/Mermando : (mostly canon) NO. Their relationship was only relevant for an episode, and had it not existed, most of the story would have been the same. Motorcity: Mike/Chuck : UNCLEAR. It probably ought to be a “no”, but the series didn't get that far, so I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt. XD; The Reward: Vito/Wilhelm: (??? canon?) YES. I mean, the story was 100% about their bromance. Mystery Skulls Animated: Lewis/Vivi : (canon) YES. Poor ghost man just misses his nerdy girlfriend. Futurama: Fry/Leela : (canon) UNCLEAR, since Futurama didn't really have an overarching plot for their relationship to be relevant to. But GOD did you see the last episode? I mean, they were definitely a central plot point of the story, even if they weren't strictly 'necessary' to it. Gargoyles: Goliath/Elisa : (canon) YES, hella yes. Their relationship (both platonic and romantic) was greatly important to the overall story, many times. Though the gargoyle characters could have existed without Elisa, the story would have lacked most of its emotional component. (And that’s just about that! I left off a bunch of old ships, because there’s just no way I have the time and energy to list stuff I haven’t been into in years. Also I probably forgot some, but oops?)

EVENT REPORT: Heating up with Anime Figures at Wonder Festival Summer 2019
Wonder Festival, WonFes for short, is the biggest figure convention in the world. Held twice a year (once in summer and once in winter), the festival is held for only one day at Makuhari Messe, just a short train ride out of Tokyo into the neighbouring Chiba prefecture. We sent our Japan Correspondent, Daryl Harding, to check out all the newest figures on show on the hot and humid summer day.
Out of the big anime conventions to go to in Japan – the others being Comiket and AnimeJapan – Wonder Festival was the only one I hadn’t gotten a chance to go to yet. Ultimately, I only really expected a bunch of figures in a room, but what I found when I walked through the door was a love letter to figures and the entire industry, with some of the usual anime fun as well.
    GARAGE KIT HALL
Walking in, I was greeted by one of Makuhari Messe’s halls, filled to the brim with tables and stalls set up with everything from Gunpla to figure painting, model creation, and so much more. While I would have loved to spend more time in the Garage Kit area, I quickly got distracted by the Wonder Showcase.
The Wonder Showcase had a huge booth of figures shown off in past festivals. Celebrating its 20th year, the booth had an array of figures that were both original and based off established series on display. Some personal favorites shown off here were Kitsunetsuki, Wakker, Fuhehe, and Land of the Lustrous character Cinnabar (picture below). That red hair is beautiful.
    COSPLAY AREA
Outside in the heat was the cosplay area. I was surprised by the lack of variety of cosplays and cosplayers at Wonder Festival; maybe it was due to a typhoon that was supposed to hit? Or maybe it was from the heat being unbearable. Whatever the reasons, due to the lack of cosplayers, the lines of the cosplayers that were there were too long, so I only got a few shots.
  Cosplayer @HCLI_JPN
Like the spectacular looking Sanji cosplayer above, who was inspired by the Indeed x One Piece crossover promotions, and looking very suave!
  Cosplayer @denden007
And this Yoko Littner from Gurren Lagann. While I thought her costume and gun were impressive, what was even more impressive was the full-size Lagann behind her. Sadly, I was not allowed to ride it.
Finally, it wouldn’t be a figure convention without some “dollers”, also known as kigurumi (roughly translates to costume) or animegao (anime face). I was able to snap this very photogenic Yugiri from ZOMBIE LAND SAGA. While I wasn’t able to get a name – I got a strong dame (no) when I asked – they were very sweet and even held my hands in thanks. A true Legendary Courtesan.
  INDUSTRY HALL
The main area of Wonder Festival is in Hall 2, where all the industry booths are. This is the area where you can see all the new figures being released soon, art installations, and even some, quite tasteless, World War II uniforms. All in all, though, this was the hal in whichl I spent the majority of my time.
There was no shortage of Evangelion love this year, with the franchise having its own booth and taking over others with figures on display and art installations. The Evangelion booth itself was blaring previews for the upcoming Evangelion 3.0+1.0 film, which included the 10-minute preview shown at special locations around Japan and Japan Expo in France.
The best figure on display here was the imposing Unit 01 running through the city (pictured above). Outside of the booth, there were intense displays set up recreating key moments from the original Neon Genesis Evangelion series, including when Unit 02 was being devoured by the Mass Production Evangelions (pictured below).
Figurama was showcasing the most spectacular of figures. The sheer scale and detail on the figures – well, they were more like dioramas, recreating pivotal scenes from the series Figurama had licensed – was out of this world. The Hellsing Ultimate diorama (pictured above), with Alucard shooting a Nazi from The Millennium Organization, was 67cm tall and just blew me away.
Around the corner from that was the Tokyo Ghoul diorama (pictured above), recreating the fight between Kaneki and Yamori from the series. At a whopping 63cm in height, it felt like the figure was taken straight out of the manga pages and brought perfectly to life. The craftsmanship of all the figures on show at this booth were just exceptional.
Ichiban Kuji, from Banpresto, brought an impressive array of figures to Wonder Festival this year. In Japan, usually the first-run of the figures are lottery only, and you can only see pictures of them when trying your luck, so being able to see the figures in the flesh was really cool, especially the upcoming Tanjiro and Nezuko figures from Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba (pictured above). Luckily for international audiences, you can buy them outright! Sometimes it pays to live outside Japan...
The vast amount of figures from That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime made me so happy, including this adorable Milim and angry Rimuru figure (pictured above). It’s truly a series I’ve enjoyed, so seeing it well represented at Wonder Festival with so many different figures was great.
Bruno Bucciarati, from part five of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind, has an upcoming fabulous figure being released, but shown off was a variant version that gives his Stand, Sticky Fingers, a beautiful blue sheen.
Dynamic poses from the Ichiban Kuji series are just one of the reasons they’re so popular, and the above figure of Luffy from One Piece showcases his free-spirited nature so well.
KDColle, KADOKAWA’s new line of premium figures that tell “A new story that you can take in your hand”, was also on display at Wonder Festival. KDColle were showing off some production figures that have yet to be fully realized, including the above figure of Subaru and Rem from a scene in Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- in this gorgeous and detailed figure that I need when it's properly released.
All of the figures shown off in the new line were incredibly detailed with rich expressions, like the above figure of Mamako from Do You Love Your Mom and Her Two-Hit Multi-Target Attacks? I may not like her two-hit attack, but I love the work done on this figure.
The KDColle series also announced KONOSUBA -God's blessing on this wonderful world- figures featuring the trio of Darkness, Aqua, and Megumin in yukata. They match their respective colors in the traditional dress, and look absolutely adorable doing so.
Over at the Good Smile Company booth, they announced a whole range of dazzling Pop-Up Parade figures based off the characters from PERSONA5 the Animation, including Ren, Futaba, Makoto, and Akechi.
Continuing with the Pop-Up Parade series, the newly announced Garou figure from One-Punch Man was shown off alongside another Saitama figure (pictured above) in his casual hoodie. All the Pop-Up Parade figures I saw being shown off were really well designed, with the eyes on Saitama above showcasing the level of detail that went into his design superbly.
The Good Smile Company booth was also attached to a stage area that I was not allowed to get images of. They had some stage events during the day of upcoming anime, with some voice actors coming out and discussing why they’re excited for their upcoming series. One of the events I was able to catch was for the upcoming CHOYOYU!: High School Prodigies Have It Easy Even in Another World! TV anime series, airing in October. They brought out the group DIALOGUE+ to perform the opening song live on stage. The energy the girls had on stage was infectious and the song was enjoyable too!
I could go on and on about the amount of figures I saw during Wonder Festival, but then I’d be here all day. I was surprised by the amount of fun I had just looking at figures and being able to take photos of them. If you’re into figures (and you have A LOT of money to spend), then Wonder Festival is for you. It’s held twice a year in the summer and winter, so be sure to check the website for more details.
