Birthday: a secret. I do not like being the center of attention.

Time: it’s like 3:40am. I will experience deep regret tomorrow, and I will learn nothing from this.

Favorite bands: queen feels like a cop out but like I’m never really not in the mood to listen to queen. linkin park, unironically. and all the different permutations of the crosby/stills/nash/young/simon/garfunkle cloud.

Last thing googled: celtic invasion of portugal. I got slightly sidetracked from something else I was doing.

Other blogs: I’ve got art over at @tearlessrainart, horny art over at @a-world-of-osha-violations, and a little pile of extremely specific sideblogs I rarely use.

Why I chose my url: I originally used it as a deviantart handle (still there) because it wasn’t taken and I liked the overall way it sounded, and kept it because it’s rarely taken anywhere. and now it’s been ten years so like it’s stuck at this point.

Average hours of sleep: 7-8 hours usually but my actual sleep schedule skews late. I’ve never been one of those people who can skate by on 5 hours and be functional, if I get less than 6 hours I am absolutely useless and was that way even in high school/college when everyone else was pulling all nighters and shit.

Lucky number: I honestly have never understood lucky numbers, and how much I like any given number is solely dependent on how appealing its colors are according to my synesthesia. if anyone’s wondering, 420 is a hideously tacky blue/orange clusterfuck, but 69 is pleasantly greyscale.

Instruments: I play the flute, in that I own a flute that I was pretty good at playing in high school and can, if I choose, still play notes on it. I also own a melodica but I cannot play it, which to be clear does not stop me from playing it.

What am I wearing: pajama pants and a sith cloak. which sounds like a joke but I do actually own a set of sith robes and the cloak happens to be warm and very comfortable so I just kinda. wear it around the house sometimes in the winter.

Dream job: ornamental lighthouse hermit who may or may not be a wizard.

more realistically though I’m hoping to go into sfx makeup and cosmetology (I was like a week away from getting my license when the apocalypse hit)

Dream trip: I’d love to visit australia and new zealand, would also very much like to go back to scotland and possibly just not leave scotland.

Favorite food: sushi, specifically good salmon nigiri. god it’s so good. smeagol was right.

Last book read: rereading The Robots of Dawn by Isaac Asimov, which is a terrible book that I nonetheless subject myself to periodically because I like all the books around it a lot. I need to start on Robots and Empire but shit’s been going down recently so I haven’t been reading much.

Top three fictional universes I’d like to live in:  

okay LIVE IN is a very different question from “universes I think are neat” because like. I love the whole thing firefly has going on but I wouldn’t survive it for more than five minutes. so with that in mind:

1. middle earth but like, the shire during the third age specifically.

2. I think I would enjoy being a legend of zelda npc. I could just be a weird little potion seller who lives in a tree or something. or maybe an inexplicably sexy fish man. or better yet, the inexplicably sexy fish man’s husband, who sells potions. yeah I’ve got my fictional life here completely figured out now, this is good. I would also own an extremely chonky horse.

3. one of the ones I made up, specifically the one that involves a lot of gryphons and interdimensional bullshit. more specifically the origin universe of said gryphons, which exists at the heart of an extremely complicated multiverse that includes both earth and at least one fantasy world but is part of neither. anyway it’s a nice place.

Who Am I?

My Name is Richard Michael Kalvaitis. I was born in Boston, Massachusetts, and I have lived there, New Hampshire, Michigan, and very briefly in California during an age that I don’t remember (or so I’m told). I’m a middle-class straight white male from the suburbs of the midwest, and I identify as a middlle-class straight white male from the suburbs of the midwest. I have made art, I have made programs, I have made games, and I have made music. I wouldn’t necessarily call myself an artist or a programmer or a game designer or a musician. You can’t just be all of those things at the same time. Don’t be silly.

I work as a research assistant at Eastern Michigan University. We are developing a framework for detecting false injection attacks on Smart Meters. I am also working on a video game with a friend of mine about magic spellcasters where players can build their own spells by mixing mechanics together on the fly. The story needs fleshing out, but we settled on a world where magic is mundane, so a magician goes searching for “real magic.” I’m also working on a functioning quadcopter made out of cardboard and cheap electronics from the internet. I have no artistic or musical side projects at the moment, though I would like to learn how to improvise ambient music for use in Dungeons and Dragons (hey, it’s fun - judge me for something else.)

I have problems with self-confidence and seek validation from others. I laugh and joke all the time but secretly I hate myself. I waste a lot of my time playing video games. My favorites are Minecraft, Spec Ops: The Line, The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask, and Undertale deserves to be on this list too, even though I hate associating myself with the community of people who tell everyone they love Undertale. I have to admit, it is a very good game. I play League of Legends even though I don’t really like it anymore. It’s something to do with my friends. I also play Oldschool Runescape. I got level 99 magic just the other day. I’m both proud and ashamed.

I’m 23 years old, and I live with my parents. I worked at a restaurant for four and a half years before I had enough money to pay for college and leave the foodservice industry - hopefully forever. I graduate this semester, but that’s on the assumption that I can get everything done on time. There’s a scar on my right foot from a trash bag that had an open can of pizza sauce in it. It was really gross.

My greatest accomplishment is my (almost complete) degree in Computer Science. I struggled for what seemed like much longer than everyone else learning the basics. I worked as a tutor for low-level classes in the Computer Science department, and as a lab assistant in COSC 211 here at EMU. I was mentioned positively several times in the course evaluations. I used to play in a Greek band. I pretended to be Greek and played the drums for money.

My favorite color is #0000FF. My favorite food is heavily Americanized sushi. I’m a virgo, and I think astrology is bullshit. I’m pretty OK at a few things. I’ve made several attempts at being an artist.

@catch-a-star-wish-from-afar Well, I'm so glad you asked, let me tell you. So Tenya's birthday is canonically August 22nd, making him right on the cusp of Virgo and Leo, so he's going to show traits of both in his sun sign, but here's my argument why h's more of a Leo than a Virgo and it's hidden in plain sight because of how loud his Virgo qualities are.

So it's obvious how he's a Virgo in most aspects, but the boy just radiates big Leo energy, and here are some examples of why.

The first thing he said to Midoriya was basically to shut up.

Not only that, but he felt the need to grab the attention of the entire testing crowd, and have a literal spotlight shining down upon him before he did it. Leos live in the spotlight to some degree, and clearly he's no exception. Big Leo energy.

Even before he was elected class rep, he felt the need to take charge of everything and lead everyone. Big Leo energy.

Always always always looking out for and complimenting his friends. Big Leo energy.

Diving in.headfirst without hesitation to fight a man literally known as the Hero Killer. And doing it all to avenge someone he loves. The biggest Leo energy of all.
